Two stores opening in Northeast Heights

During these current economic times, it's good to hear that Albuquerque Metro is opening two new stores in the Northeast Heights. Wal-Mart superstores had a ribbon cutting ceremony at its newest store on Menaul and Wyoming on the 15th and Sunflower Market near San Mateo and Wyoming plans to open in a couple of weeks. This is a win win situation for all consumers as well as bringing new employment opportunities to Albuquerque.

No Scorpion Hockey Next Season

Santa Ana Arena and loyal fans will miss not having the Scorpions hockey team around next season. Unfortunately for Rio Rancho and Albuquerque Metro the Scorpions announced they will not be playing this upcoming season due to financial setbacks. The new management company, Global Spectrum is now looking into filling those slots normally used by the Scorpions with other entertainment possiblilities.

Students Go To New Classrooms

Say goodbye to overcrowding at Ventana Ranch elementary. Two new and identical elementary schools are celebrating their grand openings. Sunset View elementary and Tierra Antigua elementary welcomed their students this week transferring from the long overcrowded Ventana Ranch elementary. Ventana Ranch elementary was housing well over 1500 students with many of them in portables. With these new schools, children will be able to experience what elementary school is supposed to be like. They’ll be able to play on the playground at leisure, go to music classes, go to the library, have lunch in the cafeteria and go to PE and share in many other fun adventures that comes along with learning in a quality environment.

Albuquerque Police Response Time Drops

According to the Albuquerque Journal and the Albuquerque Police Department, response times by APD have dropped anywhere from three to seven minutes depending on the location. This is due to additional officers along with new resources such as the Northwest Area Command Center near Cibola High. New Mexico School Standards Some of the Toughest in our Country

New Mexico has very tough standards when it comes to educational assessments. Unfortunately these high standards are unfairly measured against other states which may have easier standards and assessments. The Albuquerque Public Schools superintendent Winston Brooks is suggesting that the measurement for passing or failing is not the same from state to state and that the National standard need to be revisited.

Albuquerque Home Prices dip 2.4%

I was little sad see this story, but then I saw that Orlando had dropped 24%, so all in all Albuquerque is holding up pretty well in this crazy real estate market. This is also one more indication that home affordability is at a level that many more people will be able to get into a home. I saw some statistics last week that show that home affordability is at a level that the United States is not see in 30 years. This may be the best time in our lifetime to buy a home, especially if you are a first time buyer because there is the $8,000 tax credit. Of course the bad news is that you are one people that bought the home at the peak of the market in 2006 and have to sell right now, it really difficult (to say the least).

My personal opinion is that the Albuquerque real estate market is going through a bottoming-out phase and I think prices will start to stabilize.

NM Governor Signs Housing Authority Bill

The New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority has had great programs for 1st time buyers for years, but the Gov is really trying to get buyers into these programs. "I urge every New Mexican who's looking to buy a home to look and see if they can benefit from these unique programs," said Governor Bill Richardson.
