It is a nonprofit organization registered as a 501 (c) 3 organization with both the IRS and the New York Attorney General's Bureau of Charities. Donations and gifts are tax deductible up to the extent of the law.

The mission of Just Poets is to celebrate both poets and poetry. We do this through workshops, publications, readings, and networking within the literary community. Furthermore, Just Poets works to increase the public's awareness and appreciation of poetry through readings, a speakers bureau, written articles, and sponsored talks, readings and workshops by well-known poets.

Meetings: Just Poets usually meets the first Saturday of every month, except for July (no meeting) and where the first Saturday falls on a holiday (e.g. Labor Day, New Years, etc.) In these cases the group meets on the second Saturday. Our regular meeting place is Campus Center COP Conference Room and Conference Room 3 (both on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center) on the campus of St. John Fisher. For some special events and when there is a conflict with Lavery's availability, we meet at other locations such as the Fairport or Penfield Public Libraries.

Our meeting times are from 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. The first part of the meeting is generally a brief business/announcements session followed by a guest speaker who either gives a presentation about some aspect of poetry or leads the group in a writing exercise or prompt.

Following the speaker, we break into smaller workshop groups. In these smaller workshops, we provide positive feedback and critiques of each others' work, with the intention of assisting each poet find or strengthen his or her individual poetic voice. Our groups are never larger than 15 poets. Often they are smaller.

Publications: Just Poets publishes a monthly newsletter Poet Talk, which features a book review by a member, a website of the month, proposed changes in policies or procedures, upcoming events, and more. Members may also list readings or workshops they are teaching, recent awards they have received, or announcements of new publications.

Annually, Just Poets publishes an anthology of members' poetry in Le Mot Juste (or Lemon Juice as it has affectionately been nick-named) Only Just Poets in "good standing" may submit poems for consideration and possible publication in this anthology.

Readings and Open Mics: Every month on the second Thursday, from 7-9 P.M. , Just Poets meets in the Community Room of Barnes & Noble in Pittsford (3349 Monroe Avenue) to read their poetry to other members and the public. Each session begins with a 15-20 minute reading by a featured Just Poet member. Following his or her reading the microphone is opened up to other Just Poets and the public.

RochesterInk, a sponsored program of Just Poets, is an annual poetry festival held each year during the month of October. For more information check out RochesterInk's website at www.rochesterink.org.

Just Poetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00040432113790178058noreply@blogger.com
