My brother and his wife had real tuberoses dipped in wax on their wedding cake. They were married 45 Augusts ago.
Also....loved seeing the vase. On a more positive note, there is also an active "Project Gutpile" going on which encourages outdoorsmen NOT to use lead ammo or other lead items because of the ill effects on the environment and wildlife.
Who knew....?cyberthrushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01883119145892591610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19608656.post-31009153943320835102007-09-04T12:51:00.000-05:002007-09-04T12:51:00.000-05:00Littleorangeguy, I'm with you. My whole family is that way, so it must be genetic? Those tuberoses would send me round the bend, but I am very happy to admire them from afar. The overhead shot is especially nice.littleorangeguyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12654738679277701610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19608656.post-28381357235783155732007-09-04T09:34:00.000-05:002007-09-04T09:34:00.000-05:00Wow. I get it from my mother; she plants gardenias, jasmine, tuberoses, and other fragrant blooms. That's interesting how the tuberose only puts out its scent at night; how in the world does it control it?dguzmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01811101661607351661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19608656.post-21215982871263350602007-09-04T08:54:00.000-05:002007-09-04T08:54:00.000-05:00Dorothy,Any tuberoses you order now you'll just ha...Dorothy,

Any tuberoses you order now you'll just have to save to plant until next spring, after danger of frost. I'd imagine a bulb company would ship in October or November, since they're still in leaf now. They'll wait until the leaves die back, dig them up, and send them.
You plant tuberoses in the spring, and you must dig them in the autumn after the leaves die back. I store mine in the basement where it's cool and dark, in brown paper bags or joint compound buckets, with the gladiolus bulbs.
Tuberoses are a long-season plant. They need a long growing season, and don't start blooming until August in southern Ohio. Which is why Trixie is swooning up there in Alaska, poor dear. I'm delighted to hear from those who remember tuberoses. Nostalgia is rooted in the olfactory bulbs, after all.Julie Zickefoosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06654698829603424649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19608656.post-61740006275251717102007-09-04T08:04:00.000-05:002007-09-04T08:04:00.000-05:00I am definitely going to order some tuberoses toda...I am definitely going to order some tuberoses today.
