Hi guys--still having lots of fun in North Dakota. The deer story was shot in Wisconsin--it's one of the last of my WI posts, and I saved it to fill a dead spot while we're working in North Dakota. The weather is (finally) fabulous and we're seeing lots of great prairie birds. We've got only intermittent phone service and occasional Internet interludes, but can't send any mail for some reason--we're getting those emails but not able to respond. Glad you all liked the pretty doe. I got another nice series today, of a full red-summer girl. Kids are having a great time, too. After my keynote tonight and another field trip Sunday morning we're off the hook. Back soon! Does this sound like a postcard? Miss you, wish you were here!

Also am glad you are feeling better! I do love deer. When I was in grade school, during summer vacations I would go to the library and bring back books like "the Life of the Deer". My mom would shake her head "why don't you get books like Little House on the Prairie?"

I noticed that the doe didn't feel the need to raise her tail until the other folks came by. See, word is out that you can be trusted!

Thanks Julie, for the pictures of that pretty doe. Did you notice she's just starting to lose her winter coat behind her front legs where the fur looks reddish? I could sit for hours and watch them.

kgmom reminds me of a trip I took across Canada once, when my partner and I drove across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, we swore that we could see the curve of the earth. Truly magnificent.

The deer story is lovely and sweet. I am struck by the line about the people of North Dakota staying through the winters and hanging in for the short ravishing summers. It reminded me of life. That short, ravishing summer.

Lovely story of the encounter with the doe.
And North Dakota--we visited several years ago, then drove north to Manitoba to visit my brother. That wide wide sky--like an inverted bowl. You could see the weather coming moving from the west, across to the east. Marvelous!

Great story Julie..love the doe.
We get loads of deer coming through our woods each morning and evening and I still get a big thrill every time I see them.
Tonight on my way home, there was a little spotted fawn in the road and I stopped until it was safely across. Didn't see the mama though.
I'm so glad you're feeling better!
