So that's how Ivory-Billeds became endangered (or extinct if you are a pessimist)...they fed their young dentures.
Most people who are over-critical about things like that have extreme jealousy issues. Good criticism should always be encouraged because who doesn't want to make their work better and better? As for people that rhyme with slush flimbaugh or millary blinton (and countless others on all political sides) I think they have become so delusional that they forget what their even talking about the moment they say it. (Occasionally bloggers might have this problem).

As somebody who confessed - in public, before 800 people - to an adolescent infatuation with Barry Manilow, I am happy to see the evolution of this discussion end in a manner that at least throws a bone to all of us who create art and put it out there for people to notice. IMHO there are exceptions - those poor souls who are at the mercy of marketing departments, labeled 'singers' or 'musicians' by somebody who just wants to make a buck off their flesh and limited ability to carry a tune (Brittany? Jessica?) However, the Barry Manilows and Billy Joels of the world just do their thing and it gets woven into the cultural memory books. Not their fault; just their artistic expression at the time.

Everything has its place, if offered with some integrity. Even birds with dentures. Even weekends in New England. Even scenes from an italian restaurant.

And, yes, even uptown girls.

Satelite radio sounds great. I've been pretty much out of touch with music for decades because commercial radio has gotten so bad. In the log cabin days, there were real human beings called DJ's. They would choose music themselves, tell us what they were playing and why. Now, it's all done by computers and formulas, and there are 10 ads for every song. Who can possibly be listening to that??

If it wasn't for the monthly phone bill, cell phone bill, cable bill, TV bill, ISP bill, etc., I would be tempted to subscribe to yet another service.

Maybe you can do a weekly post on your favorite music so we know what to buy!

Why is it so easy to hang on and chew and chew and chew on the lone negative comment and forget about the multitudes of compliments? Do we foolishly worry that someone has found out our secret that we are not as hot as we hope we are? Or is that their weapon: to take happy, successful people down a peg or two-- they feel bad and want someone happy to feel as bad as they do?

And don't fret too much at the person who thumbed through the book and couldn't purchase. Maybe they just don't have the money at the moment--they loved the book, the art, everything but they were on a tight budget and would have to wait (goodness knows I have been that person many times). Perhaps the thumb through is a signal to a spouse that someone wants the book and if the spouse is smart they will notice (because spouses are so good at that) . Maybe the thumb through people were taking down mental details to describe the book later and hope to unwrap it as a holiday or birthday gift?

Or, maybe they were just mental?

Personally, if I don’t like something or someone I ignore them and hope they will go away soon.
I refuse to waste limited time and energy on idiots, fools and incompetents.
I don’t mind someone disagreeing with me, no matter how wrong headed and flat out stupid their opinion is.
