The Valentins Charity Fundraiser Concert and Dance is held at the Maritime Labour Centre, 1880 Triumph Street in Vancouver on February 9. A silent auction, door prizes and a 50/50 draw with net proceeds (ticket sales included) also goes to “Tradeworks,” a registered non-profit society since 1994 that is dedicated to providing unemployed downtown east side residents (youth at risk, women, men) with job and life stkills training and to assist them in finding and keeping employment. Collectively the respective divisions raised $57,551.48 in donations in 2007, and provided over 500 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless in Vancouver, as well as calculators to every 4th Grade student at Admiral Seymour Elementary in Vancouver East. “Our divisions are absolutely passionate about the charities they support. These overall figures serve to demonstrate the commitment Realtors have to improviing the quality of life in their own neighbourhoods,” says REBGV president Brian Naphtali. The funds from realtors in Vancouver includes: Burnaby/New Westminster/Tri Cities: raised over $3000, which was matched by TD Canada Trust. An additional $8,000 was raised for Childrens’ Wish Foundation Burnaby at the summer golf tournament. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Realtors Division: This real estate division raised over $2,900 at their Christmas party, in addition to the $3,850 brought in at their annual golf tournament, the proceeds went to the Meadows Youth & Justice Advocacy Association. The Vista Hospice Society was also provided with a cheque for $300. They also provided all supplies and manpower to make 500 turkey dinners with all the trimmings at the 12th annual Thanksgiving dinner for homeless and homebound. Richmond/South Delta/Gulf Islands: Richmond Realtors and real estate agents raised $8,490 at their Christmas party for the Richmond Carefree Society. They also raised $,2900 at their golf tournament for the Richmond Cafefree Society and Delta Assist. South Delta real estate agents raised $7,966 for the Gateway Autism Foundation and the Delta Boys and Girls Club. The Westside Division of Realtors raised $6,863.02 through a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and generous realtor donations at their Christmas party to support BC Children’s Hopsital Realtors Care Endowment Fund for Genetics and Oncology. The North Shore/Sunshine Coast/Sea-to-Sky Realtor Division raised $2,557.46 which went to support the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation. Vancouver East Division of realtors in Vancouver raised $525 through an auction at the Admiral Seymour Elementary School in Strathcona for student contest winners at the annual school Christmas party hosted by the Vancouver East Division. This realtor division also provided $1,200 for the Admiral Seymour Elementary School essay-writing contest.
