It seemed kind of flippant. Although I know what he meant about dogs not necessarily being "wise" in a human sense of the word, I still think they can remind us of the simpler pleasures in life. At least for me, dogs add a sense of balance and enjoyment to life. I'm not sure I agree with the comment about dogs/religion, however. I have both in my life and quite honestly, I think pets provide a genuine glimpse into the spiritual world.
