Wonderful day of Kite Flying at Storm King Sculpture Museum

My husband, son and I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Storm King Sculpture Museum in Mountainville, NY yesterday. There was a kite launch that anyone could join in one of the fields. The weather was fantastic. Enough wind for the kites and that kind of sky that the Hudson River school of painters loved. the shot of the hosta is from my front garden before we left for the day.

Storm King is a huge property with giant metal sculptures and wonderful site specific pieces, as well as small outdoor work and a little museum building. The most recent addition to the grounds is a piece call the Wave Field by Maya Lin. These mounds of earth and vegetation are 12 feet tall in places. You can see them from a height or wander among and over them. Within the museum they had a small exhibition of her work as well.

The wall you can see in the picture is Storm King Wall by Andy Goldsworthy. it serpentines and meanders up through the woods quite a ways. The museum is about 1 hour North of NYCity and well worth the trip from anywhere. The property is huge and one entry fee allows you to do whatever you wish. You can picnic and wander the fields and woods for hours and never feel crowded.

Here are some images fresh from the Darkroom. These were taken last summer at the racetrack in Saratoga, New York. They will be on exhibit during race season this year at Terry Lindsay's Equidae Gallery at the Holiday Inn, Saratoga, New York. the gallery is open from the last weekend in July through Labor Day.

Hello to all my Fans, Friends and Family,

Spring is finally feeling like it is here! I thought it might be time to spread some news.

Beginning April 15th you will find my work hanging on the walls of the FlatIron Steakhouse in Red Hook, NY. Along with some beautiful shots by the owner, Jessica Stingo, will be 6 of my pieces. So stop by for a fantastic meal...and take a look. I can honestly tell you that when we eat there, we eat everything on our plates. It is all delicious. There are vegetarian dishes and I can easily make a meal of their appetizers, salads and sides. Not to mention the desserts! www.flatironsteakhouse.com

After that....opening on May 2nd will be the Over Hill and Dale art show of equine and landscape work at the Maplebrook School in Amenia, NY. This show has work of the highest quality and partial proceeds from sales will go to support the therapeutic riding program sponsored by the school for it's students. I will have 3 pieces hung in the show and 6 more matted available. So come on over on Derby Day and enjoy the camaraderie and artwork. More details on the reception time to come.

I have been invited, along with 5 other photographers, to participate in an exhibit of Fine Art Photography dedicated to the Equine at the newly opened Carrie Haddad Photographs gallery in Hudson. New York. Long known for her support of photographers, Carrie Haddad, owner of the Carrie Haddad Gallery has opened a space specifically for Fine Art Photography at 318 Warren Street in Hudson, New York. Opening January 22nd, the gallery will be host to equine work from local and international photographers; Tim Flach, David Seiler, Ida Weygandt, Christopher Makos, Paul Solberg and myself. Join me if you can, for the Reception on January 24th from 6 to 8pm. I hope to see some of you there, so I can show you some of my newest work.

Ex Arte Equinus II - Equine Art at it's best

I think that I have mentioned before my involvement with the Ex Arte Equinus II fine equine art competition that is sponsored by Art Horse Magazine. I had the distinct honor of being the Show Director this year. The competition has 4 categories; painting, photography, sculpture and drawing. I was incredibly impressed by the quality and scope of the work entered this year. Artists from around the world sent work for judging. Cowboys and Indians Magazine Photography Award

I just found out that my image "Rhapsody in White" has won the Best Equine Photograph award in the Cowboys and Indians magazine's annual photography competition. It will be published in the March issue and is due on Newsstands early Feb.

Wondering what I have been up to?

Most of my time lately has been spent organizing the Ex Arte Equinus II equine fine art competition. Art Horse Magazine is sponsoring this show for the second year and I was honored to be asked to be the show director. Fine Art using the equine as subject has been entered from all over the world. Entries were accepted in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Photography. All the images are now off to the judges for them to make their decisions. The show is published in Art Horse Magazine as well as in a book. You can see last years show by going to http://www.arthorsemagazine.com/art_competition_2008.html

In addition to all that administrative work, I have been holed up in the basement printing for my show next year at the Silo Gallery in New Milford, CT. Keep coming back for more updates on that show as they develop. I can tell you that the theme of my work for the show is White Horses and I am contemplating putting together a book to accompany the show and that will be available for sale.

And here is a peek at some proofs from the recent NYState Sheep and Wool Festival that was at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds a few weeks ago. These may come out in boxed sets of cards. Or at least that is what I am thinking right now.
