The Kindle DX release date has not been set by Amazon yet, but orders are first come first serve, so reserve your place in line now to get it first! Also, even if you pre-order now, you can always cancel later. So do it now, rather than later, to get first dibs on the Kindle DX! I know I want one!!!!

The Kindle DX has an extra large 9.7 inch screen and includes text to speech. The price is $489. I don't know of any coupon codes yet, but if I learn of any coupons or coupons codes, I will post them in my blog!

I'm excited because this larger screen is really going to make a big difference for users, and just like the new generation Kindle, it has text to speech! Plus, it has over twice as much storage as the new generation Kindle!

If you haven't seen the Kindle DX 9.7 inch large screen yet, check it out here (if you can't see the picture, click the text link below):

Kindle DX

Talking Books Librarianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06810739361671934850noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1954518837515204267.post-15913196515985944112009-05-05T14:34:00.006-05:002009-05-05T14:42:22.126-05:00Liquid level indicator / liquid stop indicator - How to safely pour liquids when you are blind or visually impairedLiquid level indicator / liquid stop indicator - How to safely pour liquids when you are blind or visually impaired

AFB's Senior Site has a great video explaining how to safely pour liquids when you are blind or visually impaired, using a liquid level indicator / liquid stop indicator. Are there any discounts for Kindle? Is there a coupon for Kindle 2?

Quite a few people have been visiting my blog, wondering if Amazon is going to release a coupon code for the Amazon Kindle 2 / coupon for the Kindle, or offer any discounts for the Kindle. Well, it does not look like a coupon code for Kindle is going to be released any time soon and no Kindle discounts are currently available. The Kindle price without a coupon is only $359, which is less than what the original Kindle started at! So if you want a Kindle, just buy a Kindle already! :)

It could be months (or even longer) before a coupon code for Kindle 2 or any further discounts appear for the Kindle. But you can bet that if any Kindle coupon codes or Kindle discounts do appear, I will post about it here on Talking Books Librarian blog.

To stay up to date on any Kindle coupon codes, please sign up for regular updates to the Talking Books Librarian blog. Click here to sign up for updates!

See the Amazon Kindle 2 here

Talking Books Librarianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06810739361671934850noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1954518837515204267.post-65454691012458607092009-03-31T14:50:00.004-05:002009-03-31T14:53:05.179-05:00April newsletter of American Printing House for the BlindThe April issue of the American Printing House for the Blind is now available online. But low vision users (or people with dyslexia and language challenges who need enhanced visual display support) have not been able to benefit from this technology. Now they can with Say-MAGic. Linking Dragon NaturallySpeaking from Nuance and MAGic from Freedom Scientific together, Say-MAGic provides a fantastic range of facilities for users of display management technology who wish to control the computer with the voice. A total of 16 Kansas libraries
were rated, allowing Kansas to claim the third highest spot in the
country. Only New York (1), and Ohio (2) had more libraries receiving
stars, and Kansas tied with the state of California.

The libraries were ranked using 2006* survey data collected by
the State Library of Kansas for the National Center for Education
Statistics, and processed through a new assessment tool for public
libraries called the “LJ Index.” The four categories used in the
analysis included:
● the number of times an average individual visited the library
● the average number of items checked out by an individual
● the program attendance per person, and
● the number of times an average individual used a library
computer terminal.

“It’s not surprising that this announcement parallels the
big picture that we’re already seeing in Kansas,” explained Peter
Haxton, State Data Center Coordinator. “Kansas has quality libraries,
and because of that, Kansans use their libraries significantly.”
Kansas has 327 public libraries, approximately one library for every
8,500 people. A library which excels in the LJ Index ratings is very
likely to be headed in the direction of high service quality and overall
exceptional library performance.

Five star ratings went to: Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library,
St. John; Elkhart/Morton County Library, Elkhart; Hays Public Library,
Hays; and Meade Public Library, Meade.

Four star ratings went to: Cimarron City Library, Cimarron;
Neodesha/W.A. Rankin Memorial Library, Neodesha; Seneca Free Library,
Seneca; Fredonia Public Library, Fredonia; Coffey County Library,
Burlington; and Johnson County Library, Overland Park.

Three star ratings went to: Belleville Public Library,
Belleville; Plains Community Library, Plains; Ellinwood School Community
Library, Ellinwood; Buhler Public Library, Buhler; Mound City/Linn
County Dist. #4 Library, Mound City; and Marion City Library, Marion.

*2006 is the most current annual compilation of library data.

The State Library of Kansas is located in the State
Capitol building in Topeka. The library’s primary mission is to serve
the residents of Kansas through direct service and through support of
local libraries. Even before statehood, the State Library served as a
depository of legal and historical documents and as a ready resource to
the executive and legislative branches of Kansas government. Today,
through the latest technology and access to on-line informational
databases, the State Library of Kansas offers more information than ever
to the residents of Kansas. Well, I am pleased to say that only a few days after my blog post, the price has now dropped to $42. Do you think my little blog post made a difference? Ha ha. I pity anyone who actually purchased this book at $40,000+, considering you can now buy the book for a mere $42. Don't believe me? I want to thank everyone who provided feedback on the advantages and disadvantages of the netbooks I was looking at. I like the fact that it has a 10 inch screen, plus it has the new N280 processor (making it faster than other netbooks) and bluetooth! They have also improved the keyboard over previous models. Any reviews available?

A few days ago I posted my dilemma about which netbook to buy. And I'm STILL asking myself, which netbook should I buy? LOL. Thank you to those who provided feedback! At the time of my last blog post, the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook was not yet released. (It was available through pre-order only.) Well, I just discovered today that the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 are now being sent out from Amazon! This certainly puts an interesting twist on my dilemma, now that this one is officially available and released. It was probably my top choice, followed by the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook which has still not been released yet by Amazon. I am wondering if anyone is aware of any reviews on these particular models? Since they are so new, I haven't had much luck finding reviews of either. The one thing I like about the Asus is the newer N280 processor.

I also had some interesting feedback about the Dell Mini's. It seems almost everyone that has these, loves them. But the price seems significantly higher... unless anyone knows of any special deals going on? (hint, hint???) LOL.

So, my dilemma lives on.... and I suppose if I wait long enough, even better ones will come out! Thanks again to everyone for their feedback. Please keep it coming! I'll let you know when I finally decide!

Talking Books Librarianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06810739361671934850noreply@blogger.com0
