I personally read the news because I want to know what is happening in the world; I want the information my brain needs to formulate an educated and informed opinion about the state of the world. Newspapers and websites really do fall short -- today's news (CNN, 20 December 2007) has, on the front page, in order of "importance":
Latest News

Poll: 3 Democrats tied in Iowa

Ticker: Giuliani spends night in hospital

7-foot-tall 12-year-old mystifies docs

Torture chamber, mass graves found in Iraq

Teens charged in 'Mortal Kombat' killing

Evidence in Holloway case to be revealed

Cynthia McKinney to run for president

What will you tell kids about Britney's sister?

Wife set ablaze holds tight to EMT's hand

French prez, hot model raise eyebrows

Are you a 'cyberchondriac'? 26 min

KMGH: Tiger cub discovered in basement

CNNMoney: Dumbest moments in business

Man with blue skin just wants acceptance

Star Trek fans make own 'Webisodes'

CNN Wire: Latest updates on top stories

The fact is, I am not really getting the information I need when I read the papers and websites like CNN - unless I really filter through the website to the very smallest section. Instead, I am getting human-interest crap, with blown up photos, and little itty bitty sections of reporting about things that are truly important. And there is ZERO coverage of the things that matter most -- people's state of awareness and action about the world around them. I personally cannot make informed decisions about the world I live in without such information. I hate having to live in such a fact-free environment and with such a skewed picture of the world. It's just too much work to filter through it.

If you feel the way I do, go ahead and sign up with TxtVox for 'Breaking News' alerts.
