Here is a new technology that will refresh all pixels in a passive EL display at the same time (increasing refresh rate many times faster than normal):

There is a built in modulator and filter at each pixel of a passive EL display (new discovery). For high-definition EL displays (1920 x 1080 for instance) all pixels can be updated at 2 KHz frame rate and 4 MHz maximum sinewave frequency. With this approach, many orthogonal frequencies can be sent down each row and column simultaneously, allowing simultaneous refresh. The advantage is increased contrast ratio and slower drive speeds for the same frame rate.
