IT IS A PESTICIDE!! I am a childcare provider in Oklahoma who dealt with lice when a child brought them in. Our pediatrician said to leave Nix in for 2 hours. Since I am a provider I always call the county health department so I can be prepared to discuss illness with parents. I was informed that since it was a pesticide and the directions said to leave on for no more than 10 minutes, that to leave on for 2 hours is grounds for having your child removed into state care. It's not safe, physically or legally, so don't do it. It won't get rid of lice permanently either. Take it from me. Use something slick and natural and nit comb daily. It's the only sure-fire thing! Happy nit-picking!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19038911.post-12285095863545332562009-05-21T22:26:21.210-04:002009-05-21T22:26:21.210-04:00I have tried the Nuevo/Cetaphil thing but it takes...I have tried the Nuevo/Cetaphil thing but it takes forever to dry your hair. This like olive oil and mayo suffacate for AT LEAST 8 HOURS. They can hold there breath for a few. YOu have to do these about every 5 days to really get everything and break the cycle. Do once and get the live, then again in 5 days to get those that have hatched then about 5 more days to get the next batch. Maybe 0nce more. Also i can not do the comb and get them all so I nit pick or pull the individual hair out. we did this 4 years ago and I almost lost my mine. It has happened again and I am much better. HEAT KILLS TOO! Flat Iron, Hair Dryer. the over the counter does not work. Also I just cover my couch each day with a clean sheet and thats where she sits. Also heard putting orig Listernine for 2 hrs, wrapping with saran wrap, then wash with 3% Salyic (spelling) Acid Dandruff Shampoo (Denorax, T-Gel, etc). Plus use coconut shampoo and conditioner. Add some Tea Tree oil to shampoo 5-6 drops. Smells some but also helps keep them away or catching again. Just take a deep breath. Suffocate, comb, wash, DRY completely. Repeat in a few days.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19038911.post-90179362242249379652009-02-26T00:56:00.000-05:002009-02-26T00:56:00.000-05:00My daughter had a problem with lice when she was 3...My daughter had a problem with lice when she was 3, thanks to her half-sister. The problem lasted off and on for 3 years until I finally made sure that she was not going back around her. Anyway, she has been lice free for 2 years until about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have treated her, retreated her, treated the entire house and even had to treat my 19month old as well. I have been using RID and also a daily spray for her hair called LiceGuard. I am at my wits end and dont know what to do. This really stresses me out cause, I dont want to go through it for another 3 years and I surely dont want to have to start treating my todler regularly. Does anyone have any suggestions?? The Nix people told me that it is not unusual to see live lice after treatment. The key seems to be combing, combing combing. I followed the directions for Nix to a T, and every day I am noticing less lice, and less adult size lice. I suspect that the eggs Nix didn't kill off the first time hatched because the ones I get now are tiny. So every morning and every evening I am combing our hair. I plan on doing the follow up treatment on the 7th day.

I also got a lice spray for the items I can't wash or pack up in a big plastic bag, and I did pick up Listerine and white vinegar in case after 2 weeks I still find lice. I have read where lots of people have soaked their heads in regular Listerine, put a cap on, and waited two hours. Rinsed (some used mild shampoo as well), then soaked their hair in white vinegar, capped, for another 2 hours, then shampooed again.

That's my plan of attack if this doesn't work but hopefully this does it. I get the impression that people may not be waiting long enough for the medicine to work, or use a product that un-does the work of the medicine. I was told NOT to use any hair products except a mild shampoo (including hair dye - I am so sad, I need it done so badly right now).

Good luck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19038911.post-74661608476983460222009-01-05T11:42:00.000-05:002009-01-05T11:42:00.000-05:00I used the cetafil treatment and it still feels li...I used the cetafil treatment and it still feels like something is crawling on my face, but I don't see anything. Get Nix (kills eggs AND live lice) and follow instructions except sleep with it in your hair all night. When you get up, rinse it out and change your bed linens (washing in hot water drying in hot dryer). You buy Rid furniture/fabric spray and spray area that can't be washed. Vacuum. Quarantine stuffed animals for 10 days (hot attic in plastic bags is good.) Repeat the treatment in five days, same with lines, and then repeat the treatment in five days again. You can buy a good metal comb too, but Nix is supposed to kill live lice and their eggs. He said this has always worked for his patients. I soaked my head in olive oil too, and combed and combed and combed two days after the first treatment. Just for peace of mind. Good luck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19038911.post-3981277112458742872008-07-24T12:45:00.000-04:002008-07-24T12:45:00.000-04:00The reason some of you are getting recurring lice ...The reason some of you are getting recurring lice is that you can't possibly comb out all the eggs, nor can you detach or kill them with ANY product, oil, etc. What you have to do, after you've dealt with the first wave of lice (the first couple of days) is keep combing out the hatched lice before they are able to lay more eggs. This can take three weeks. Again, do not think you will be able to successfully nitpick all the unhatched eggs: you're probably just finding hatched egg casings. Here's a helpful article on the life cycle of the louse and a combing schedule to really eradicate the critters: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/theliceprogram/

Good luck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19038911.post-70781727660076900062008-06-30T12:07:00.000-04:002008-06-30T12:07:00.000-04:00My step daughter has been sent to us with head lic...My step daughter has been sent to us with head lice several times in the past month or two.
