Still hanging in there

I've finally gotten some work done on my Boot Bag; I am finished with the main part of the bag and am now deciding how I want to do the straps. The pattern calls for a metal chain to be attached to knitted tabs, but I want to do a totally knitted strap. I'm considering doing a braided i-cord, but haven't gotten the courage to tackle knitting that many inches of i-cord. Makes me wish I had one of those hand-cranked spool knitter things!

I check back periodically to see what is going on. I have been doing a lot of knitting felted bags lately. Working on creating, designing and knitting my own felted bags. I have made a few, in the process of designing my own site to offer the patterns. So, what is everyone else working on? Also, I have knitted 3 pairs of socks and a few bags. I bet we lost a bunch of members when the spamming was going on, but its too bad. I personally plan to knit most of the bags in the book, but must admit that other things (like charity knitting) have been taking most of my knitting time. I also have done some test knitting for a yarn company but have begged off of that to devote more time to my own, and charity, knitting. So I hope to get started soon. I have lots of yarn so don't even have the old shopping excuse. Hope to see others here too.

There is a video on this page showing how to knit this stitch. Apparently it is also called the bramble, blackberry and trinity stitch pattern.

This is an easy, fun stitch pattern and I wish I had known about that video above before starting mine...LOL. This is also the first time using my new Knit Picks Harmony needles, which so far I absolutely love!

I have used this yarn in other projects and I love the color's of the Shetland Chunky Tweeds and the ease at which it knits up. The color shows more red on my pc monitor and it really is a deeper red color.

I decided to use seed stitch instead of garter for the handles. I also purchased cute knitting needles with sheep on the ends with stitch markers to match from an Etsy shop called Designs by Tami. Plus I added my handles a little different than the pattern stated. I spread the stitches out about 10 loops in from the edges and then wrapped the end of the handles around the knitting needle and stitched by hand to attach.

Fair Isle Book Bag Finished

Finally got this sucker lined. I really like it. Found out that when I do the Fair Isle thing that I knit tighter, so lesson learned. I will be making this again! And I took it to school last week (of course I have one week left and my goal was to finish it before school started, but at least I got it before school ended!)

Next up (after the Christmas rush) is the Triangle bag... it will be my first felting experience. Any tips?

Raffia Ribbbon

Hi ,

I finished the front of the bag and after my holiday party is over and my Christmas gifts are in the mail, I will move on to the lining.

This pattern does not call for reinforcing the handle but I am thinking about how I could. Are people finding that a simple crochet or knit handle is strong enough to support the weight of a full bag? I tend to fill my purse to the max.

linen tube clutch update

Here is an update on the linen clutch. I am 3 inches from finishing the front. I switched back to the old bernat aluminum straight needles and finally seem to have found some kind of rhythm . It is still not speedy knitting . The tip of my left finger is kind of sore from struggling with this double strand ,knit two together in back of stitch pattern, but I soon will be done with the herringbone stitch and on with good old stockinette stitch. The herringbone pattern that this stitch forms is nice so it is probably worth the trouble.
Usually when I complain about a project this much in the end I want to make another one.

I forgot to post a picture of my finished Triangle Bag

I'd forgotten that I haven't posted a photo of the finished Triangle Bag and it is on its way to a new home already. Here it is finished. I added a snap to the inside so there would be a solid closure and sewed this big wooden fish button on the outside to spark it up a bit. I hope the person I've sent it to will like it as much as I do and that she will enjoy using it.

I didn't line the bag because it is a double layer of fabric in most of the bag already where the two pieces are joined and crossed over. This is the first bag I've ever given to someone that I didn't put a lining in and I feel a bit quilty about it but the lining for this bag would strictly be for show (which I enjoy doing), LOL.

linen tube clutch

I have started the linen tube clutch. I purchased the yarn used in the book, Louet Euroflax, in french blue. The yarn does make the bag look grass like but working in the double strand herringbone pattern stitch with this yarn is not easy. The flax does not have the give of most yarns and it also splits easily. I cast on and found after a few rows that I made an error and unraveled to start again, this yarn did not like that either. You can see from my photo that I am not very far on the second try but I thought I would like to post and see if anyone else was knitting this bag. If so, how are they progressing and what yarn are they using ?

I really like this bag and am determined to finish it but this project is slowgoing. I have tried 3 different types of needles, the bamboo needles seem to work best . If Ms. Nussbaum reads this knitalong maybe she can give us some tips on working her herringbone stitch in the Euroflax.

Looking forward to hearing from other Linen clutch knitters.

Not a Bag but a good cause - and quick knit

Good morning everyone!

If you are looking for an easy way to use up sock yarn, check this site out. It is at Mason Dixon Knitting. Just pay attention to the 4" square. Being that I have no sense of what 4" is (my first square ended up 6"), I hacked off the end off a 6"x4" index card and stuck it in my bag. Your gauge can be whatever in order to get a 4" square and then send them off . . . spread the word!

Formal Boot Bag Completed

I'm not sure why I waited so long to finish the handwork on this bag, but it is now finally complete. I think I'll be happy not to have made the entire handle out of chain as the 2 rings connecting bag to handle are quite heavy on their own. Whew! Finally I can claim an FO! :)

Triangle Bag Ready To Be Fullerd

I have the Two Colored Triangle Bag ready for fulling.

The two pieces are knitted and pinned together here. I can already see that I'm going to like this purse.

And here it is after being sewn together, and ready to go into a pillowslip and into wash. I like it as is; would just need a lining.

I'll post the completed project after it is fulled, shaped, and dried. I used Paton's wool for this project.

Completed Knitting Needle Knitting Bag

This was an easy knit if you are paying attention to what row you are on. I had to frog 2 or 3 times because I kept knitting the wrong row. Duh on my behalf!! I used 3 skieins of Cadena Yarn from knitpicks.com; the colors is Mist. I really like the feel of this yarn. I will surely use it again on another bag. The knitting needles in the bag are 12", which are not long enough, the stitches are a tad bunched up. I advise you to get 14" if you are going to knit this bag. I used a bright pink brocade fabric to line the bag. I must say it looks gorgeous. I will let you all be the judge of that. :-) That's my son doing the honors of holding the bag.

Ordering Problems

I just wanted to post to the Canadian's and whoever seems to be having problems getting the Bag Style book. I just replied to Janie's post on Nov. 7. I've had major waiting problems with Amazon.ca with ordering this book. When I saw that Tiffany got her book, and she is in Japan right now, I thought that's enough waiting. So I cancelled my order with Amazon.ca, and thought if I maybe reorder it with them it might re-set to a better delivery date....nope...Jan.2/08 was the new date....So I cancelled, and ordered it from the Amazon.com website on Nov. 4, and it shipped the next day with a eta of Nov.28. It seems like that's still a long wait, but I'm assuming that's due to Canada Post having to deal with an onslaught of online cross-border shopping. Hope this helps! I look forward to eventually posting with a project, and I'm loving all the picture's of everyone's posted projects.

p.s.: It turned out it was even less to order through Amazon.com with our Canadian dollar.

p.s.s.: Update: Just received 'Bag Style' today Nov.13...I ordered it on Nov.3.

Felt Laptop Case

Is anyone else knitting the laptop case? I bought the Cascade 220. I am using Sz 11s to get gauge, but the "fabric" is pretty loosely woven and I am worried that it's not going to be sturdy enough after felting to hold something as heavy as a laptop. Whatcha think? I am going to try to felt my swatch to see what happens.

My Book Won't Arrive from Amazon.ca Until JANUARY

I've cancelled my Amazon order. I'd hoped to have the book in early November to complete some projects as Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, I've received word this morning from Amazon.ca that my book won't ship now until January 9th or 10th. The book is over 30% cheaper online vs. in store - that's why I prefer to shop Amazon. Despite the high Canadian dollar (we're around $1.10 this morning compared to the US dollar), book prices have not been dropping in stores here to reflect this. Call me cheap, but I'm a single parent here. Still, I'm happy to learn that the Scarf Style book and Crochet Jewelry title I'd ordered just after I'd ordered Bag Style should arrive here no later than Friday. :)

Swatching for Formal Boot Bag

Just got my Bag Style book Saturday at Borders (with 30% off coupon, thank you very much!), and have decided to make the Formal Boot Bag. It was really difficult to choose, since I want to make at least nine of the bags in the book. But the cover bag is the one that's calling my name the loudest. I'm planning on using some Patons Classic Wool in red that I already have in the stash. Well, I'm off to swatch...

FO - Two-tone tote

Finished the two-tone tote a few weeks ago, but have only just taken a photo. It's not as deep as I expected, so I might add a couple of snap closures at the top (to stop things falling out!), but otherwise I love it. Easy to knit, and the felting was so much fun!

Density of Triangle Bag

Heavens, my wonderful SP-11 partner sent me the Bag Styles book, two days late I received a copy from Amazon. That's okay, it just means that some lucky person down the road, will receive my copy as a treat.

I love most of the bags in the book but the Triangle Bag really caught my eye. I do have some concerns that the fabric won't have the thickness that I like with it being knit with only one strand of yarn. I know the size 6 needles makes up some of it. I'm tempted to knit it using a larger needle and two strands. Has anyone tried that ? I will take Charlene's advice and double the yarn for the I-cord handles.

I plan to cast-on tonight while I'm at a breathing point in my knitting.
