It is freezing!

We had the strangest weather yesterday. It was raining when we woke up, now, in Jhb, it doesn't rain in winter! So, it was raining, and it rained most of the day. There were the odd lightning strikes in between too, but not a proper thunder storm, no... just a thunder clap every hour or two. BUT, the lightning was close enough to strike Angotull's office complex, and to make me turn off all the PCs in the house. Throw into the mix three bouts of hail, and the odd sunny moment, and you have an idea of the weather yesterday. And all through the day, you could feel it getting colder and colder! It was pretty freaky in a "Day After Tomorrow" kind of way.

Last night we decided to bring Wiggles to bed with us, for fear that he'd just get too cold on his own in bed. At least we all slept warm and snug together in our family bed. This morning we are bundled up in layers of clothes and jerseys!

I hate winter!!!!

We're back, holiday over.

We had a fantastic holiday! I think we are all feeling well rested and happy. (Except for the fact that Angotull has already had to go back to work).

We left the morning of the 21st, Monday. The trip down was alright (from the passenger point of view). Wiggles slept some, watched the scenery some, and watched a movie.

We spent the first 5 days of our holiday at the Breakers Hotel. It was not bad, but not quite the standard of Cabana Beach, and the room was a lot smaller. We were glad it was only for the shorter portion of our holiday.

At Breakers, there is no swimming beach. The closest is about 1km away, so we didn't do any swimming in the time that we were there, but Angotull and Wiggles did spend some time in the shallow waves.

The first full day we were there, Tuesday, it was extremely windy, so we didn't attempt going to the beach at all. We went to Ushaka instead. Although their aquarium was stunning, it was very crowded, and a bit too busy for us. When we wanted to see the dolphin show, we realised that we could not take a pram into the 'amphitheater'. We refused to let Wiggles out of it, we keep him in there for his safety, now we have to put him at risk, why? Not to mention the fact that we now have to leave our pram in an unsecured 'parking' area where anyone could walk off with it, I think not! We turned and left.

The next day the weather was a lot better, so we took a walk to the lagoon further down the beach. It was about 1,2km from our hotel, and little Wiggles walked the whole way there, and the whole way back, never asking to be picked up even once. At the lagoon he and I played in the sand while Angotull had a go at flying his new kite. Once he was done, he and Wiggles played in the water of the lagoon.

The rest of our time at Breakers we just spent having daily visits to the beach and the pool deck. It was still a little cold in the water, so none of us swam in the pool. We would just sit and soak up the sun, and order our lunch from the pool restaurant.

The Saturday we moved from Breakers to Cabana Beach Hotel. It was awesome to finally be at Cabanas, we'd been looking forward to it all week. We did the daily beach visits, Angotull swam a few times too. The weather was also a little warmer, so Wiggles and I took a few swims in the pool too. He loved it! The water was still pretty freezing, and he'd shiver like crazy, but he'd cry if we took him out.

At both hotels we attended their "Bring and Braai". They organise the fires etc, you just bring your food and plates etc. They also organise entertainment, in the form of Fred, a singer/musician. I really enjoyed his shows, he sings older music (60s), and I think he has a beautiful singing voice.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather. Aside from the windy first day, it was perfect! On our last Friday (Our last full day) it got overcast and windy, and it rained on the day we left. How lucky we were to have mostly fantastic weather to enjoy the sea and sand in.

Because the weather was a little iffy on our last afternoon, we decided to take a walk along the promenade to the lighthouse. Lovely. Anyway, there was no pain, so I figured it could just stay that way. It was broken at the back, so you wouldn't see it when I smiled or such. I thought I could live with it.

But then, Friday afternoon, it began paining. It was pretty painful, so much so that I took pain medication. It just got worse! Yesterday morning, when I woke up, I couldn't even close my mouth properly, the pain of anything touching the offending tooth was just too much. I needed a dentist!

So, of course, it's weekend, easiest time to get service! I managed to find an emergency dentist not too far from our home, so off I went to see him. I figured it would just be simplest for him to pull the offensive tooth and get over with it, but it seems it was not that simple. After inspecting my mouth, he declared that I have a huge abscess under the tooth, and that I was in need of a root canal! Yay! So, there I was, totally unprepared for this major procedure, and totally in the dark about what they do. (I've only ever needed one filling, nothing more).

Let me just say... by the time I got home, and the Novocaine started wearing off, I thought I might as well not have gone to the dentist... I am in more pain now than I was before the visit! Good grief! It is super sore! I keep thinking it is suppose to be pain free now, since he 'fixed' it, but nope, not so. I figure this is normal, since he did prescribe pain medication along with anitbiotics. He wouldn't have given the pain meds if it wasn't meant to be sore, right? At least the medication helps :-)

Needless to say, I have to return to him again in a few weeks to finish the job... I am NOT looking forward to it one bit. This morning, my eyes had barely opened when I was greeted with a gift and a card. The gift, a big bottle of one of my favourite perfumes. The card, home made, and decorated by Wiggles and Angotull, definitely a keeper for my memory box.

We spent most of the day busy with chores around the house, but together. Spending time with my boys is always awesome. This afternoon, Angotull took me out to lunch, and then we had a stroll around the mall. Very much appreciated, as he sacrificed watching the Formula One GP for the ability to have a late lunch. I really do appreciate it!

Once we got back, we just spent even more time just being with each other, bliss. Now, Wiggles has gone to bed, and Angotull has just made me bacon and egg sandwiches for supper. They were just what the doctor ordered!

To Angotull: Thank you so much for giving me a perfect mother's day! I really do appreciate all the effort you went to, and the sacrifice of your GP ;-)

A fun post

Well, since I was "tagged" by Just Brian, here goes...

Go to Wikipedia, and type in the month and day of your birth (no year). I really don't like winter. You have to pile on layers of thick, uncomfortable clothes. You can't just venture outside without adding even more layers. For anyone who doesn't know me... I don't like clothes, and try to avoid wearing any whenever possible :-)

Of course, we are planning on going on Holiday next month, and I am hoping that the cold snap will have eased up by then. I'd like it if we could swim a few times this year. I am so looking forward to our holiday, our second family holiday. We will be going for a longer time this year, which is fantastic, because we really had a hard time coming home last year. Also, we are going to two different resorts, which is kind of exciting for me.

Long Weekend

So, it's Tuesday, It could just as easily have been a Monday. We have just had a magnificent long weekend, Easter weekend, a four day weekend!

Wiggles and I absolutely loved spending so much time with Angotull. It is good to have him home, instead of at work. This morning it was really hard to get out of bed, I didn't want the weekend to end. One thing to keep us going though, is that we will be going on holiday soon. Two weeks of work free Angotull time :)

We had such a lovely weekend...
We didn't actually do much of anything, we just spent all the time relaxing as a family. There were afternoon naps, and games in the garden. There were braais and sweet treats. There was relaxing, and there was bonding. It was nice.

Of Wiggles and fun...

Today, our little Wiggles is officially heading for THREE. :)

Yesterday was our little baby's second birthday! I still can't believe he is that grown up already. The baby has almost disappeared completely, and has been replaced by a boisterous little boy. Love it!

Yesterday we didn't do too much. He had a visit from his granny and in the evening we had some cake once Angotull got home. This coming weekend we are having a small get together with some friends to celebrate too.

The weekend was awesome! Saturday we did shopping and such. Bought all the new linen for Wiggles to go into his own bedroom and his 'big boy' bed. Sunday was awesome. Angotull had planned it as a surprise for us, which made it even more exciting... We went out to Haartebeespoort dam for the day. Our first stop was Tan' Maalie se winkel for breakfast. What a wonderful, relaxed setting! It was lovely. From there, it was a short drive over the damwall and through the tunnel to the Snake Park. There we walked around all the cages looking at the various animals they have. The monkeys were too adorable. We also took a barge ride over the dam... so relaxing and fun. We all loved it!.

Once we were done there, we went to the nearby aquarium. There we looked at all the fish in the tanks, and then wandered around the property. The have various animals on 'display' too. The seals were a big hit with Wiggles, and he kept running back to their enclosure. We were there just in time to watch the "show". The seal did a few tricks. Wiggles loved it. He particularly enjoyed it when the seals played with a ball... he giggled so much.

By then it was after 2pm, so we started looking for a place to have lunch. After driving around for some time, and not finding what we felt like, we decided to head home. We stopped off at a local restaurant for a relaxing lunch. After that we came home, and just relaxed for the rest of the evening.

We had such a lovely day.

Quiet Weekend.

We had a quiet weekend at home this week. We spent most of it watching DVDs and eating "soul food", apple crumble, chocolate mousse cake, choccies, ships etc :) It was great.

I decided this weekend that it is high time I contact my 'cousin'. We haven't spoken in years, but I am sure we will get along great now that we are all grown up :) At the moment it seems I have misplaced her phone number though, so I will need to find it. I promised myself I won't just leave it again this time. I am hoping that she will join us for dinner or such one evening. I feel bad for being so lax with it... when I started this blog I promised myself it wouldn't become on of the multitude of abandoned blogs out there... and now I seem to be letting it go that way. Time to give myself a harsh talking to, and start back at it.

So, a general update is in order I think.
We are doing well. It is VERY hot in JHB at the moment! Heat is really getting to me.

Wiggles is growing... cuter, and more mischievious by the day. At the moment he isn't sleeping all that well. Teething. Thankfully, the end is in sight. He only has 1 (and a half) teeth to go before he has a full compliment. I can't believe it is almost time for his birthday again... it seems like just yesterday that he turned one. We had the family over for lunch to celebrate the occasion. Wiggles was spoiled rotten once again, he really is a lucky boy.

On Sunday morning, as we were getting ready for everyone to arrive, Angotull went out to get the last few things we needed. When he arrived home he called me to come and look at the little dog that had arrived on our property. She wouldn't leave, so we took her to the back where she could be with our other dog. We had been considering getting Wiggles a puppy for his birthday, but thought it might be best to wait until he is older. It seemed fate had decided for us, and we agreed that if her owner didn't claim her we would keep her.

The family all arrived on time, thankfully, as I had some very important things I needed to do before they arrived. Angotull's parents were amazed at how much Wiggles had grown since the last time they saw him. The rest of the day was just spent visiting with the family. After lunch we sang "Happy Birthday" to Wiggles, and he had a piece of his cake. Shortly after that it was time for everyone to start heading home.

In the week after his birthday all hell broke loose for us.

On the Tuesday he developed a runny tummy, and started throwing up. We treated him with lots of tea and kept him comfortable. He had a slight fever too, which we dosed wit paracetemol. By 10pm that night his fever was unacceptably high, so we rushed him to the hospital Emergency Room. They issues us with a script for meds and told us that all will be fine. We had to travel to Kempton to collect the meds at the only 24 hour pharmacy in the area.

Wednesday he looked OK, not great, but not too bad. He still had a very runny tummy though. Thrursday morning he wasn't looking too good, so we took him to our usual doctor. He prescribed new meds and said he disagreed witht he original diagnosis. So off we went to dose our baby with even more medications.

Friday morning Wiggles couldn't even really wake up properly. He'd open his eyes, and just drop right off back to sleep again. When we tried to give him his medication, he threw it all up. At this point he couldn't even keep liquid down. Highly concerned we took him back to our regular doctor (he was away, but had a stand in), only to hea that the stand in doctor would only be in at 10am. We felt we couldn't wait that long. We took Wiggles to the hospital ER (different hospital), and they admitted him with severe dehydration.

The whole of Friday Wiggles just slept. He was on a drip, so slowly his fluids were being replaced while he rested. By Friday night he was a little more alert, and by Saturday he was wide awake again. He remained on the drip until Sunday afternoon, when he basically removed it himself. The doctor decided that it wasn't neccesary to put him back on the drip after that. On Sunday we got the Lab results, saying that he'd contracted E coli, most likely from the stray puppy. Sunday afternoon the puppy ran away, making me believe she is a serial escape artist, and a nomad.

Wiggles remained in hospital until Tuesday afternoon, when he was finally released. The hospital stay really put strain on all of us. I stayed at the hospital day and night, and Angotull was there every minute he could find. I was very glad to sleep in my own bed on Tuesday night.

I am glad to say tha it seems Wiggles is on his way to a full recovery. Since being discharged he eats anything in site, I suppose he has a week of not eating to catch up on.

Sniff Sniff, Shuffle Shuffle

We seem to be having a sickly week this week. Wiggles and I appear to have gotten ourselves a cold. Who knows from where? I tried blaming my mother, but highly doubt it could have happened over the phone as we were only graced with her weekly pressence today. I think I will still blame her though :-) I know she will tell me it's because we don't eat enough vegetables... What is it with mothers always thinking we are incapable of looking after ourselves, even when we are rapidly approaching 30?

On top of having the sniffs, poor Wiggles is cutting his very first molar. The poor baby is in so much pain that he won't even let me rub Teejel on the affected area. I can only imagine how painful it must be for him... I remember cutting my wisdom teeth, and that hurt lik hell! And I have a high pain threshold! Imagine how it must feel to have all this pain, and not be able to say anything about it, AND not to understand why it is happening.

Angotull seems to have aggrevated his gout in a big way. It has been troubling him for close on 3 weeks now, reaching breaking point at 2 this morning when the pain woke him up. He took a little trip to the doctor this morning, and was given an injection and some meds. He says it has improved vastly already, so I hope that by tomorrow he is feeling alot better too.

In other news... I sent out the invitations for Wiggles' birthday this morning. The reality of my little monster growing up is really starting to hit home! I am going to have to learn to let go and start treating him like a little boy! This morning he mastered his own "technique" for climbing down steps. It basically just involves flinging his body over the edge and hoping for the best... my heart just about stops every time he does it. This evening he proudly sports a scratch down the side of his face as a mark of his achievements. Promise I will post pictures soon :-)

An artsy HNT!

I normally try and keep my pics very real, but this week I have decided to be a little different. The reality that Wiggles will be one in a few weeks has really hit home to me. We are attending our very first kiddies birthday party tomorrow, a little boy born just weeks before Wiggles. Our babies are growing up! Before we know it, they will be in school, how is that possible?

I look at Wiggles, and am in awe of all the growing up he has done in the last 11 months. From being this tiny, helpless bundle and going to this independant little boy exploring his world. Last night, as I lay him in his cot, I remembered how tiny he looked in it those first few weeks. Now he almost fills it! He has grown so very much in just 11 months.

It's been too long

Well, it has been ages since I last updated. I have been a very bad girl, so bad in fact, that the only excuse I have is just plain laziness! Time seems to rush past me these days.

Anyway, I guess an update would be a good place to start...

Wiggles was exactly 11 months old yesterday!! In just one month my tiny baby is going to be a year old!! I have no idea how a year could go by so very quickly. Needless to say, we are starting to think about a party etc for him. I am glad to say we have chosen a theme already, so at least I have a target area to work in, in terms of ideas. Now the real planning begins. We have also been throwing around ideas for a gift for him. We were thinking of a puppy, as he is crazy about animals, but have decided to wait, possibly, until next birthday. He is still just a little too young to fully appreciate it right now.

I have decided to take on an order for bridesmaids dresses, for a friend of a friend. I have not been at my machine since Wiggles was born, and even then it was nothing as "fancy" as this. But, I feel like making something nice for a change, so here goes. While I have my machines all set up I have heaps of other work I plan to do too... nothing huge, but I have a few things I want to make for Wiggles and possibly for Angotull too. I also plan to make the curtains for Wiggles' bedroom.

On Saturday Angotull took us to Gold Reef City for the day. It was stunning. We hadn't been there in such a long time, so we were pleasantly surprised to see what it looks like these days. Even though none of us went on any of the rides, we all had a great time. Wiggles loved watching all the people. We paid their little zoo/farm a visit, and he loved the animals. He was particularly taken with a Macaw who said "hello" a lot. Wiggles kept reaching for the bird, and motioning it to come to him. In the stables he was a little weary of the horses, and when one made a motion to nibble my arm (I was holding Wiggles in the other arm), he got quite a fright. He let out a little scream and buried his face in my neck. I think it is safe to say that horses are not at the top of the list of his favourite "eh!"s. (any animal is refered to as "Eh!")

Angotull spent the day out in the garden yesterday, and it is looking really nice now. He made some great headway into getting it like we want it. I have never been the gardening kind, but I do like looking at ours, especially when all the work is done. :D

Christmas...

Well, Christmas arrived sooner than I expected even though I was counting down the days, does that make sense? All in all I think we had a very good xmas weekend.

Angotull came home early on Friday afternoon, and we went shopping for the food we needed for Christmas eve. On Christmas eve I spent the day preparing, while Angotull watched Wriggles. He decided to cook supper for us, and let me just say, it was wonderful. We decided to do the whole turkey thing, and Angotull cooked the most devine turkey for us. My mom arrived just after 6pm. We had supper a while after that. Then Wiggles had his bath, and then got to open his gifts. He was a very spoilt little boy!

Wiggles got some really cool gifts. The toys that make a noise have been the one that are the biggest hit so far. His granny bought him a ride on "bulldozer", but he doesn't seem too keen on that just yet. Although I suspect within a few weeks he will be loving it.
By the time he had unwrapped (torn open) all his gifts, and taken the time to play with each one of them, he was exhausted. He was so very tired from a long day of playing and presents and such. We put his mattress in the lounge with us, and he passed out surrounded by all his gifts and toys.

We waited up til midnight, and had a toast for Christmas with my mom. After that we had some coffee, and then she decided it was time to head home. We went to bed soon after, probably around 1 -ish. We had to be up early on Christmas morning to make the hour long trip to Angotull's parents in time for breakfast. And we had to pick up my mom on the way.

We had a lovely day at the in-laws. The day started out coolish but turned into a very nice warm day. We spent the most of the day sitting on the patio. We also had lunch out there. After lunch we took a walk to go and show Wiggles the ducks at a little pond in the area... he wasn't very interested.

We left there when we saw heavy weather coming over. We ended up driving through a terrible storm. I felt so sorry for Angotull having to navigate in what seemed to be a cloud burst. I suspect his nerves were shot by the time we dropped my mom off. We had a fantastic day, but we were very glad to be home again.

Today is a public holiday. We have done absolutely nothing today other than watch TV and surf the net. After the busy xmas weekend we need a little time to just chill out and relax.

Lip Smacking HNT

Well, it's HNT again, and here is the pic for the week. Our Christmas tree is up! We eventually got our lazy selves into gear and did it last night. Now we can really let the Xmas spirit run riot in our house. I can not believe it is Xmas time already, this year has just rushed by. So another festive season has arrived, and we are all feeling the spirit of it so much more this year.
