You've Got your degree, and probably managed to land some real work, and the money to go with it. It won't be too long before you'll be out from under the crushing load of Student Loans, and ready to start paying off a real Mortgage. But technology marches on, and those hot skills you have now are soon going to be stale. Are there ways to build on the investment you make in school rather than watching it go stale? IEEE GOLD has assembled a panel of Experts, including Career Coaches, Authors and working Professionals to address issues commonly
experienced in the early stages of your Career, from Working with PEOPLE to dealing with your first layoff, from Negotiating the Salary, to the Resignation Letter, and Networking to Building your reputation. The Panelists will address common issues, and take questions from the Audience.
Our Career Experts include Cynthia Shapiro (author of "What Does Somebody Have To Do To Get A Job Around Here?" ) Irene Koehler - HR consultant ("First Thing Tomorrow") , Also Represented will be the Startup community and a recruiter. IEEE representation includes Jonathan David (IEEE Region 6 Professional Activities Coordinator), & Stephen McInerney (IEEE GOLD volunteer)

Cost $0 The event is being planned without fee/ (food, beverages and books will be available for purchase)
Buffet dinner $17 (includes non-alcoholic beverage, tax and tip) cash at the door.

Steve Hawkins has been in the Staffing industry for nearly 10 years. He has been a Staffing Specialist with QUALCOMM since 2007. Steve started his career as professional recruiter with AEROTEK Engineering where he was a Technical Recruiter and Account Manager for the Telecom/Semiconductor industry for over eight years. Before becoming a recruiter, Steve worked in the Digital Mapping industry as a Developer and Quality Engineer. Steve has a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara.

Jonathan David is a Sr. Staff Engineer in Mixed Signal Design Verification at Qualcomm. He started researching Career Planning in Jr. High School when he picked up his Dad's copy of "What Color is Your Parachute?", a book that factored heavily in a decision to stay in engineering and move to Silicon Valley in 1996. As the Dot Com bust played out, Jonathan encouraged efforts of the local IEEE section to serve members affected by that down turn, served as the section PACE chair in 2007, and is currently serving as the IEEE Region 6 Professional Activities coordinator.

March 21st PACE meeting cancelled

Hello all,
Well, as the world turns, I find myself no longer at Ecrio. So, I will be canceling the PACE planning meeting there. As I begin my quest for another opportunity, I will draw upon all of my great networking contacts in the IEEE to help transition into the next great position. I heard from the group, that we might be able to hold the next PACE meeting at Intel, I will let you all know if we can formalize that.

We have a created a group for IEEE members on Linked in,
and UPDATED the database as of Today, March 1.
If you are a member (not affiliate) in the Santa Clara Valley Section and the IEEE membership database matches your first and last name and one of the email addresses associated with your profile, you should be pre-approved.
the New IEEE membership system still has a few issues, so if that does not work, please let me know. For those waiting on approval, I'll be reviewing the remaining cases in the coming week.
