A VJ is responsible for the whole creative process starting from research and shooting as well as covering the whole process of editing and sometimes even the publication of the film.
A small camcorder and a laptop are the tools of the VJ, which is comparable to the pen and paper a newspaper journalist uses.

The final deadline for entering films for the 4th International Video Journalism Awards is the 15th of October 2008. The awards are produced by vjawards.com , the host is ZDF German Television in Mainz.

The internet is converging all kinds of media, which is reflected by this year's theme "unlimited access". The awards try to cover all known fields of video journalism: films from TV-stations and
publishing companies and productions from an independent background are awarded with a total of 12.000 € of prize money going to the seperated categories "independent and online" and "TV production".
Recent developements that influence the VJ-scene and future perspectives are discussed in the supporting programme of the 4th International Video Journalism Awards.

Further information is provided on our website:
http://www.vjawards .comweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-19869736143723298862008-07-17T19:10:00.000-04:002008-07-17T19:11:13.036-04:00GAZING INTO THE 21st CENTURYGAZING INTO THE 21st CENTURY

Second international conference on Image Science in Goettweig
October 16th -18th 2008
www.donau-uni.ac.at/dis

Never before has the world of images changed so fast and the way images are produced transformed so drastically as in recent times. Second Life, Micromovies, Flickr, Virtual Reality, YouTube, Visual Music, Scientific Visualisation, Google Earth etc. are keywords standing for a multitude of new possibilities for individual producing, projecting and distributing of visual material.

The images’ historical development between innovation, reflection and iconoclasm reaches a new level of global complexity in the 21st century. These transformations have hit society to a large extent unprepared. Nevertheless we have to recognize that we will not be able to handle the knowledge burst of our time without further development of new forms of visualization and “orders of visibility”.

What inspiration do these new worlds of images gain from art? What influence does the medium have on the iconic character of the image? What chances and challenges do image dealers and museums face with the “liquidity” of the image?

Together with international colleagues from science and art and keynotes by Felice FRANKEL (Harvard University, MIT), Barbara STAFFORD (Chicago) and Peter WEIBEL (ZKM) the conference will discuss the inventory, classification and historiography of the recent worlds of images concerning the worlds of art, popular culture and science.

The lectures and discussions will cover the following topics:

* NEW IMAGE FORMS AND TECHNIQUES

* NEW STRATEGIES IN VISUAL ARGUMENTATION

* NEW PRACTICES OF IMAGE TRANSFER

Lectures among others by: Prof. Dr. Marie-Luise ANGERER, KHM; Dr. Elize BISANZ, University Lueneburg; Prof. Dr. Oliver GRAU, Danube University; Dr. Stefan HEIDENREICH, Humboldt-University Berlin; Mag. Amsterdam's STEIM has been at the forefront of designing tools for composers and visual artists for decades, like LiSa, BigEye and ImagIne. STEIM's sensorlab was one of the first commercially available sensor interfaces.

Takuro will present and discuss the history and current work at STEIM, and can answer questions in case you would be interested in spending time at STEIM to work on your own project. He will also present his own custom-made DJ setup.

http://www.harvestworks.org

PRESENTATION
Takuro will introduce the general history of STEIM, from its start in the late 60s as a collective of composers, improvisors and musicians to a research lab, artist in residence and venue for adventurous live electronic arts. Later he will demo his own performance set up consisting of a turntable, dj mixer, self-built USB controller and Max/MSP. Crossfader-triggered sampler "cut n play" and right-hand usb interface "audile" are some of the unique modules that he has designed to seamlessly integrate live sampling into the flow of turntable performance.

BIO
dj sniff (Takuro Mizuta Lippit) believes in the instrumental autonomy of the turntable and the musicianship of the DJ. He is a turntable musician working in the field of improvised and experimental music. His music focuses on the live reconstruction and narratization of the phonographically amplified - the music, the sound, the technology and the past. To achieve this, he uses a unique setup consisting of hand-made hardware interfaces and a custom Max/MSP software along with one turntable and DJ mixer. He is also a concert/event curator for electronic music and a researcher of music technology.

While studying Art History and Philosophy in Tokyo, he was active as a DJ in the underground electronic music scene and formed a collective called smashTV productions which organized genre-mixing events such as anti-Gravity and bistro-Smash!. In 2002, he moved to New York to pursue graduate studies in computer music and physical computing at NYU's ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program).

Since 2005 he has been involved with STEIM's (Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music, Amsterdam) R&D lab and is currently its Artistic Director.
dj sniff regularly performs with computer musician Yutaka Makino as Audile and with saxophonist Keir Neuringer.weblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-71034113445650521572008-07-16T17:33:00.000-04:002008-07-16T17:33:52.668-04:00SCOPE HamptonsSCOPE is proud to present the first Collector Mentorship Auction during SCOPE Hamptons 08. It seems that its etymologic origin,
dated from the '700, meant "to blow a gust of smoke at someone's face in order to disorientate him."
In England, it was Daily News that first used the term camouflage, on the 25th of May of 1917, to indicate
the action of hiding something from the enemy. The word was immediately transferred from the military uses
into daily life through the expression "eggs camouflaged in a scramble", or often to ironically denounce a
bluff: "he is nothing but camouflage."

In the artistic context, the wish or the need to become 'smoky' or invisible has a quite curious but at the same
time significant origin, in an expression used by Franz Marc in a letter he wrote from the battlefront to his
wife (quoted in "Transformations: Camouflage and Land Art" from Helmut Friedel). In this letter, the artist
expressed the need to build some "Kandinskys" in order to make invisible the trenches in which he and his
soldiers were hidden.

Exactly 70 years later, before starting his series of "Camouflages", Andy Warhol asked the following to one
of his assistants: "What can I do that is abstract, but not really abstract?" In other words, it seems that
mimicry, in its most appropriate and fiercely assumption of camouflage, can offer a different point of view
from that of the artistic abstract models of the '900 (and obviously contemporary), including those radical
experiences such as monochrome, located between a farewell and a suspension in the inner definition of
painting.

Camouflage is the title of a show that will be developed in two stages at the Gentili Gallery in Prato. Curated
by Helmut Friedel and Giovanni Iovane, the first exhibition will exhibit works by Enrico Castellani, Isa
Genzken and Imi Knoebel.

Enrico Castellani's works have been rigorously expressing over decades (and without mimicry) this
suspended condition of painting as a "promise" of an autonomous and authentic space (further beyond the
minimalist tautologies).

On the other hand, Isa Genzken did a series of monochrome paintings (untitled "Basic Research") and of
concrete sculptures that strongly represented an efficient answer to Minimalist and to its phenomenological
neutrality.

The works and installations of Imi Knoebel "destructure" decompose the idea of monochrome as a
presentation of "primary structures.

Galleria Gentiliweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-4152220852381229232008-07-15T03:32:00.000-04:002008-07-15T03:32:48.260-04:00RA DIOHEA_D / HOU SE OF_C ARDS - Google CodeRA DIOHEA_D / HOU SE OF_C ARDS - Google Code:

"Radiohead just released a new video for its song 'House of Cards' from the album 'In Rainbows'.

No cameras or lights were used. Only through dealing creatively with research itself can we achieve results that could otherwise not be envisioned, and can science remain groundbreaking. Just as in the Dutch concept of autonomous artists, there should be free-thinking and creative scientists - autonomous scientists.

This idea is central in the Media Technology MSc programme of Leiden University. In the masterclass this creative research concept is presented - with many examples - and is much room for discussion. Admission to the masterclass and exhibition is free and open to anyone.

mediatechnology.leiden.edu/weblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-31030988978164521622008-07-14T03:48:00.003-04:002008-07-14T03:52:46.555-04:00Second Life pictures - Bubbles machineSecond Life pictures - Bubbles machine

Bubbles Machine - Albertini & Moioli in Second Life

SLurl: LifeLog Studio Headquarters, Lifelog island (124, 143, 28)

view also RL exhibition in via Solferino in Milan:
http://weblogart.blogspot.com/2008/04/albertini-e-moioli.htmlweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-53299919823940367322008-07-14T03:34:00.001-04:002008-07-14T03:44:24.328-04:00Brooklyn is Watching

"At Jack the Pelican Presents ( 487 Driggs Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211, USA ) where gallery visitors will be able to see and interact with anything that happens at the above SLURL on the 52 inch monitor."

http://brooklyniswatching.com/weblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-37763578539268942682008-07-14T03:05:00.003-04:002008-07-14T03:13:27.241-04:00" Working in Virtual Worlds"

Meeting with the students and visiting the projects from the course " Working in Virtual Worlds" - Texas University and other students

sleducators-coop

some partecipants links

http://adventuresofyoshikawa.blogspot.com/

http://machinimalibrarians.blogspot.com/

http://samanthajean.net/

http://www.thinkerer.org/Background/BakSiteMap.htm

http://www.slprofiles.com/minime/Jayne%20Urqhartweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-6372599088787594672008-07-14T02:51:00.000-04:002008-07-14T02:51:04.744-04:00art.xxXtenxion 2008"Breathtaking developments in new media offer new gateways to the work of artists. But the politics of this nothing seems drastically different from its earlier existentialist and postmodern nihilistic incarnations. This symposium seeks to explore the problem of nothing in contemporary thought, asking precisely how the postulation of an inherent negativity as a productive realm of philosophical discourse has come to characterise our intellectual landscape, and how the contemporary void relates to those of Ancient and Modern philosophical traditions.

Speakers (TBC) to include:

Justin Clemens (University of Melbourne); Author of 'The Mundiad', 'Avoiding the Subject' [with Dom Pettman], and coeditor/translator of Alain Badiou's 'Infinite Thought'
Ray Brassier (Middlesex University); Author of 'Nihil Unbound', Translator of Alain Badiou's 'Saint Paul'
John Sellars (University of the West of England); Author of 'The Stoics' and 'The Art of Living'
Robin Mackay (Middlesex University); Editor of 'Collapse', Translator of Alain Badiou's 'Number and Numbers'
Iain Hamilton Grant (University of the West of England); Author of 'Philosophies of Nature After Schelling'
Alex Murray (University of Exeter); Co-editor of parrhesia: a journal of critical philosophy, co-editor of 'The Work of Giorgio Agamben

iRes - Research in Interactive Art & Designweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710178.post-68013974450227250042008-07-13T09:54:00.001-04:002008-07-13T09:56:28.975-04:00BOLD TENDENCIES IIBOLD TENDENCIES II MONUMENTAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE

14 - 20 JULY, open daily 12noon - 6pm
Level 10 , Peckham Rye Multistorey Car Park, 95A Rye Lane SE15 4ST

Michael Allen, James Balmforth, Tom Barnett, Thomas Brock, James Capper, Nathan Cash, Bobby Dowler, Christopher Green, Oliver Griffin and Henry Stringer, Nicholas Jeffrey, Shaun McDowell, Robin Shepherd, Matthew Stone, Edward Wallace

HANNAH BARRY GALLERYweblogarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11770019671323978539noreply@blogger.com
