Are the every day demands of life threatening to overwhelm you? It is so easy to feel like we are one against the world. When jobs are being lost, kids are sick with the flu, the bills are mounting up, the car needs new tires and the teacher calls and says Johnny is failing math ... what else is there to do but feel alone and beaten up!

God has made a promise to us that He would never leave us nor forsake us. It is during these times of distress that we must not rely upon our own resources, but we must depend upon the promises of God to be true. God is a never-ending source of support and courage for those who will call upon Him.

When we are weary ... He is our strength!
When we are hopeless ... He renews our hope!
When we are sorrowful ... He wipes each tear!

God will hold our hand during such trying times ... all we need to do is reach out and touch Him!

ISAIAH 41:13 "For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand and say to you: Do not fear, I will help you."

PRAYING POINTS...praying for others

Praying with someone that you love has such an immediate, strong emotional effect on us. However, prayer is so much more than just an emotional experience. As we begin to pray for our loved ones, what we are doing is inviting God to act in their lives and to move in their circumstances. Praying on their behalf is unleashing the power of God to protect and provide for them, and to nurture, guide and bless them.

I cannot think of a more meaningful thing that I could do for the people that I cherish.

Proverbs 15:8 says "The Lord delights in the prayers of the upright." Now that is a powerful scripture that will propel us towards godliness. When we realize that our conduct affects the way God hears our prayers for not only ourselves, but for our spouse and for our children, we will begin to realize that our sinful nature and unbelief can very well affect others.

I am thankful that Jesus offers His righteousness in exchange for my imperfection. And when we accept him, our prayers become music to His ears!

PRAYER POINTS ... like a pack of animals

Earlier this week I found my family to be in danger. Something tragic happened and I couldn't help but feel like a momma in a pack of animals. As I got thinking about a pack of animals I realized that they do everything together.

They hunt together.
They run together.

They survive together.

and most importantly they stick together!

Think about this...when just one in the pack feels endangered or threatened, the rest of the pack gathers around that one and protects it. I haven't really ever thought about my own family like a "pack of animals" before, but I certainly think that when one of us is in danger or hurting, we need to surround them and protect them, just like a pack of animals does. We must pick up the slack when just one of the "pack" is down.

This week, in my ~~family~~ pack, we had two of our own get wounded. They were wounded deeply. It is up to the rest of us to come alongside them and encourage them and bring comfort to them. We cannot leave one of our own to be left outside of the "pack" to defend for themselves while they are injured and wounded.

The Psalmist said, "Even though I go through the darkest valley. I fear no danger, for You are with me."

May we continue to remember the ones that are hurting that are in our "pack". Whether in our immediate family or our church family, we all hurt when just one hurts. Let's keep the "pack" strong and stick together!

Today there are so many ways for us to communicate with one another. We have cell phones, texting on our phones, email, facebook, myspace, and we even have the old fashion way .... snail mail!

It is pretty easy to get in touch with someone these days. I wonder though, how easy is it for God to reach us? Does He have an easy or a hard time getting our attention?

Are you listening for His call?
~When you are reading His Word....are you listening?
~When you are driving in the car with the radio off, in silence...are you listening?
~When you are sitting in your weekly Bible Study...are you listening?
~While you are spending time in prayer...are you listening or just talking?

Noah was a man who had good listening skills. He listened closely to God when he was instructed how to prepare for a flood. I wonder how attentive we are listening to hear God's voice.

When we slow down, be still and listen .... we are able to hear His incoming call much more clearer!

PRAYING POINTS...God comes down

When my husband and I went to London a few years ago, we visited the Royal Palace. It was quite interesting to stand in front of the place that many times we have seen on television...the balcony where the Queen has stood and waved to the people.

Members of a royal family rarely mingle with the common folk. Usually they wave from a balcony from a palace, rarely would you find them on stage in the middle of the mall or stopping in to have a cup of coffee to chit chat.

If royalty is guarded in that way, then how can we ask the King of our world, to come down from heaven and work in us? Funny thing about that... that is exactly what the King of Kings desires, for us to ask Him to come. What happens when God comes down?

minds are changed
attitudes become passionate
His Word is held like a treasure

PSALM 113:5,6 "Who can be compared with the Lord our God, Who is enthroned on high? He stoops to look down on heaven and on earth."

God responds to heartfelt, passionate prayers that seek Him to make His presence known in new ways in our lives. He is waiting for us to ask Him to come and fill us with His power in a fresh way.

He is waiting to walk among us ... won't you ask Him today?

PRAYING POINTS ...sleepless nights

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. I just hate it when I toss and turn at night. Instead of going to sleep, I lay in the bed thinking I need to get up and then in the morning when it is time to get up, I just want to lay there awhile longer.

It is just miserable when you have a night or two like this. Many times when I have sleepless nights, it is because I am heavy laden with something. My heart is full. My joy has been shaken. My worry tank is full.

When the Bible speaks about "joy unspeakable" - how much joy is that? 1 PETER 1:8 says: "joy unspeakable and full of glory." or in other words, so much joy that we don't even know how to talk about it.

Being in God's presence is definitely the way to receive His joy ... now wouldn't it be better to be sleepless at night because we are so full of His joy?

Next time you find yourself restless at night, begin to worship Him and see if your spirit will not become full and your mind at peace.

PRAYING POINTS ... cracked pots!

If you like gardening, perhaps, you have had a clay pot that has become cracked. When you pour water into your pot, all of it just seeps out of the cracks. A cracked pot seems to become useless to your gardening skills.

Each of us, is much like this cracked pot! Yes, I said it ... You and I are nothing but CRACKED POTS! We each have our own unique flaws, and if we would allow it ... God will use even our flaws (our cracks!) for His glory. There is nothing we can put in His hands that will go to waste!

As you seek ways that you can minister to someone this week ... don't be afraid of your flaws. Those flaws (or cracks) are just a way that God can pour His Spirit upon you and when you open yourself up to Him ... it is His Spirit that will pour out of those cracks not your flaws.

Do you easily give up?

Are you quick to bail out when the going gets tough?

All of us face tough situations from time to time, and being a "quitter" is not what God had planned for you or me. A well-lived life is much like a marathon, not a sprint - it calls for preparation, determination and lots (LOTS!) of perseverance.

If you need an example of perfect perseverance to follow ... you need not look any further than Jesus Christ! Jesus finished what He began. Despite His suffering and despite the shame of the cross, Jesus was steadfast in His faithfulness to God.

Going thru difficulties is NOT the time to give up! We, as Christians, need to remain faithful and steadfast in all that we encounter, especially when times are tough!

How many of you remember the story of Alice in Wonderland?

The main character finds herself at a fork in the road with no clear idea of which way to go. Suddenly, she notices a large Cheshire cat in a nearby tree, she turns and asks him if he knows which way she should go from that point.

The cat replies.."That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."

Some of us are like Alice, we have so many possibilities for places to go that it seems too difficult to narrow down just one path. The fact is we are people who change our minds alot! The truth of this can be found in the astounding percentage of college students who change their major up to 3 different times. (50% fall into this category!)

Not knowing which way to turn, or what road to travel down can be very frustrating. The problem is many of us have made the mistake like Alice and have sought help in finding our way from the wrong resources!

God always has a plan and it is His desire that only the best things happen to us and for us! If you are at a crossroads in your life and need direction ... seek Him first and wait upon a clear path!

PRAYING POINTS ...failure

FAILURE... nobody likes to fail.

Failed test

Failed business deal

Failed relationship

Whenever we fail, sometimes we just want to hide. We would rather not face the truth or feel the burn of our disappointment when we experience failure.

Look at Peter.

LUKE 22:61, 62 "Suddenly, the Lord's words flashed through Peter's mind: 'Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even knew Me.' And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.

He failed Jesus, and failed again. First he failed Jesus by denying that he knew Him (even when Jesus was being beaten.) Then once again, after Jesus rose from the dead and the disciples were instructed to wait in Galilee ... Peter failed again. He and the disciples went to Galilee, but after a short while got tired of waiting and went back to fishing.

When Jesus called Peter from the shore, we might expect to hear that Peter ran and hid from Jesus because of his past failures. But instead, Peter dove into the water to get near Jesus. Peter's shame and disappointment did not hold him back.

Jesus welcomed Peter, just as He welcomes us, even in our moments of failure. God is not looking for people who never have failed, instead He is looking for people who won't let anything get in the way of having their relationship with Christ restored.

GOT FAILURES?

God can use you.

PRAYING POINTS...sending gratitude

There is nothing more exciting to me as a Mom than when one of my kids sends me a note or even better a text message that simply says "I love you" or "Thank you". To have my child show such love and gratitude really blesses me.

When my children display such grateful attitudes, it only makes me want to do one thing ... you guessed it .... doing something right back to them to bless them! Just today, my 13 year old daughter said to me, "Mom you are the best mommy!"

WOW. Be still my little pounding heart.

If such gratitude blesses us as parents, how much more would a simple "I love You" or "Thank You Lord" mean to our Heavenly Father? God enjoys blessing us and giving us the desires of our hearts.

LUKE 11:13 "If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts that are to their advantage to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!"

PRAYING POINTS ... angry with God ... who me?

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MAD AT GOD? Maybe you were disappointed that He did not answer your prayer the way that you had hoped, or possibly you were angry that He did not stop something bad happening to you or your loved one.

I have heard people say that it is OK express your anger towards God because He understands and He will accept our honest emotions. Many times when anger rises up in us, God just seems to be the easiest target to trigger our anger towards.

But is it really alright for us to be angry at God the Almighty?

Does God owe us an explanation for what He does or doesn't do?

Being angry with God can be a natural emotion expressed during times of sadness or disappointment, it is not wrong to express those feelings, after all doesn't God already know how we feel ... so why be fake about it? In these times of feeling angry with God, it is important that you work thru your feelings and recognize that God is a good God and He would never do anything that would bring you harm.

Instead of pointing your finger in God's face and saying, "You are not good!", turn those feelings around by expressing your anger feelings to God instead of about God, ask Him to give you grace and peace in your current situation.

ISAIAH 45:24 "The people will declare, 'The Lord is the source of all my righteousness and strength'. And all who were angry with Him will come to Him and be ashamed."

Go ahead, tell Him all your troubles (and disappointments) but do not accuse God of doing wrong. He is in complete control of all situations and He cares about you like no other.

Boy, is it easy to get over committed, burned out, bummed out, worn out and stressed out when trying to keep up with all of the commitments that we have going on in our lives. If you are trying to do everything ... something is probably out of balance.

If you are happy doing what you are doing ... then keep on doing it. However, if it is wearing you out and robbing you of joy and peace ...don't do it.

Sounds pretty plain and simply huh?
What sense does it make to commit to something and then just murmur and complain about that thing you committed to the entire time you are doing it? Makes no sense at all!

Being over committed will just frustrate you. To avoid frustration in your life ... we must keep balance.

PRAYING POINTS ... going beyond fear

Every where we turn... fear

Every where we look ... fear

Every city, every state, every country ... fear

We are living in a time in our country where fear surrounds us.

We fear losing our jobs because of the economy.

We fear an epidemic because of the breakout of swine flu.

We fear our future as a country because of our elected President.

REVELATION 21:4 "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will exist no longer; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away."

There is no reason for us to live in fear. God is willing to protect us. But, we must first open ourselves up to His protection and His love. We are not the only ones that have wrestled with fear... look at the disciples. A terrible storm brewed quickly on the Sea of Galilee, and the disciples were afraid. They had witnessed many miracles, but yet, they feared for their lives here on the waters. The disciples turned to Jesus, and it was Him who calmed the sea and the winds.

Many times, we feel like the disciples, like we are threatened by storms of life. It seems like the waves are crashing in on us. During the times such as this that we are gripped with fear, we can also turn to Christ for comfort and for courage. The One who calmed the wind and the waves is the very One who is your Protector and Provider.

Next time you are gripped with fear and in the middle of a storm...ask yourself this question:

PRAYING POINTS ... a kept promise

There are many times that I have made a commitment to do something and then later on I really regretted it. Maybe it was committing to help someone out with something, or to teach a Sunday school class or a commitment to contribute financially to a specific project. It always sounds good at the time when I am making the commitment ~ but whenever I commit to something without praying about it first ~ I find myself trying to figure out a way to get out of whatever I just got myself into.

"God...surely You do NOT want me to do this thing

and miss out on other great opportunities!"

Does that sound familiar to you? I find myself asking God this very thing as I am digging desperately to get out of the promise I have made!

Gently, the Lord always reminds me that my word is my very integrity. "Be a woman of integrity Laurie, and I will bless you."

One of the greatest promises I ever heard is "I will never leave you nor forsake you" and God has kept that promise. God will give you the desire, the love, and the integrity to fulfill the promises that you make.

PRAYING POINTS... timing is everything

Have you ever heard the saying ...

"Timing is everything"?

This is not only true when trying to decide when to get married, have a baby or change careers - it is also extremely important in spiritual things as well.

Do you have difficulty resting in the fact that God is in control and He knows the times and the seasons in your life? Next time you are tempted to worry or force a life decision ... think twice. Don't move forward unless it is in God's timing!

When we grasp the truth that when God moves, it will be done according to His plan! What a huge difference this makes. We no longer have to worry about the following questions...

*When is Mr right coming along?
*What will happen if my biological clock runs out before I get pregnant?
*When am I going to get that deserved promotion at work?

God is the God of all times and when we know Him and put our trust in Him - the timing will come for each of these things we ponder about. God already knows the plans that He has for us, there is no need to be anxious about when God is going to answer our prayers.

PSALM 31:14,15 "As for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say 'You are my God'. My times are in Your hand."

Isn't it awesome that we can now relax because God's ways and timing are perfect!

I have heard it said that 65,000 thoughts run through our minds each day. Every one of those thoughts have a seed of possibility to it.

That's right...65,000 possibilities!

We each choose with our will what we will do with each thought. Will we stay stuck in "If only" or "Why me?". Or will we open our minds to "What if?" and "Why not?".

As I continue on this spiritual journey that I am currently on, I want to be able to look back and assess where I've come from and where I am going. I want to be able to reflect on how God has brought me through so many things that I can see the trail of His hand behind me.

MATTHEW 17:20 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain. 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

What possibilities has God laid before you today? The possibilities are endless as Christ leads and directs us and as we allow His spirit to propel us. There is no adventurous voyage better than the one we take with God.

PRAYING POINT...seeking the daily opportunities

Each day we have the ability to improve the quality of our life by simply determining what kind of attitude we will have towards our day. So many of us are going thru life, keeping so busy that we almost miss the very opportunity that life is offering.

When you run your errands around town, do you see the opportunities that exist?

Do you pray for the businesses that you pass by as you drive down the road?

Have you shared Christ with the checkout girl at the supermarket?

Beginning our day by acknowledging that we are on God's agenda may just cause us to look for more "God" opportunities. Instead of grabbing a quick bite to eat thru the drive thru, why not pack a sandwich and sit outdoors and savor the taste. Not just the taste of the sandwich but breathe in the beauty of God's creation all around you. Enjoy the moment. Look for the extraordinary in the ordinary.

As you go about your day, don't just pass by, but rather notice the things that surround you.

Someone crying in the car next to you,
the sunrise,
the crops in the field that someone has labored earnestly over to provide us with food,
the hearse passing by with cars following it,
a firetruck speedily racing by with its sirens on,
your neighbors "for sale" sign in their front yard,
the clothing store that has a big sign 'CLOSING SOON'.

All of these things are opportunities.

Opportunities to pray.

Opportunities to minister to someone.

Opportunities to give God thanks for all He has provided.

PRAYING POINTS ... the tool with power

Recently, my husband took me to a "man store". You know what I mean, one of those places that sells screws, nails, ladders, and power tools! He ended up walking out with a "new" power tool. It was such a badly needed tool for him...he needed it so badly, that it still sits in the trunk of our car! (oh yeah ... someone knows what I am talking about here!)

"Power tools" in our walk with Christ is much like this.

They sit untouched.

They are forgotten about.

Prayer is the "power tool" that each of us possess. If we would only pick it up and operate it.

Prayer is a powerful tool for communicating with our Creator; it is an opportunity to commune with the Giver of all things good. Prayer helps us to find strength for today and hope for the future. Prayer is a tool we can use to help others. Prayer is not something to be taken lightly or to be used infrequently.

Is prayer an important part of your life? or is a hit-or-miss habit?

Do you "pray without ceasing"? or is your prayer life an after-thought?

PRAYING POINTS...do you feel the burn?

If you have ever worked out with a physical trainer or joined an intense aerobic class, you know exactly what I mean when I say "did you feel the burn?"

Our muscles have alot to do with the condition of our physical shape. If we want to build up our physical muscles, we have to repeatedly lift more weight than what is comfortable for us to lift. Not only do we have to lift more weight than what we feel comfortable with but we also have to keep doing it until we feel our muscles beginning to burn a little.

This burning sensation is a sign that our muscle is breaking down and will come back bigger and stronger. It is this burning sensation that is uncomfortable for us.

The same is true when it comes to exercising our spirit and soul. If the truth was told, each of us would like to become stronger (both physically and spiritually) without struggling or suffering with pain. We want to develop not only physical muscles but also our spiritual muscles without the burn. But it does not work that way.

1 TIMOTHY 4:7,8 "Train yourself to be godly. 'Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come."

Do you desire to grow more in your faith?

Do you want to know and love God more than ever?

If so, then start building those spiritual muscles by trusting in Him in new and bigger ways - even when it burns!

WHAT DO YOU DREAD?

~do you dread Monday mornings?

~do you dread visiting the dentist?

~do you dread the in-laws visiting?

From time to time we all dread something.

One of the best ways to start out your day is to NOT dread things. Don't lie in bed dreading the entire day even before you get up.

When I think of dread, I think of fear. Whenever dread enters our mind, joy leaves our spirit. Dreading things will set you up for misery.

Choosing to dread things in your day will keep you from enjoying all that God has planned for you. Why not accept the tests, embrace the difficulties and enjoy the challenges that have been set before you?

PSALM 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put trust in the Lord God and made Him my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works."

Instead of facing things with dread, accept and know that God is with you and He will make your path straight.

Sometimes I set aside an entire day to spend with one of my kids or with my husband. It is always great to push aside all of the problems and busyness of our day to just spend time together. It is like making an appointment to just spend time together! Perhaps we will sleep in or go to lunch or find ourselves checking out the movie theatre. Whatever we end up doing, the best part of the day is that we spent the entire day together. With no interruptions.

Have you ever set aside an entire day to just spend with God?

Having no interruptions would allow us to not only seek Him but hear from Him. Just as important as it is to spend time with our loved ones, it is even more important that we save some "time" for our Heavenly Father.

You may think that you don't have time, but face it...

If someone famous was coming to town - you would find time.

If someone was giving out a thousand dollars at the mall - you would find time.

If this was your last day to see someone - you would find time.

Find time for God today and be still in His presence and savor each moment.

PRAYING POINTS...celebrate!

This past week in our family devotion, I asked my kids what they were rejoicing about on that particular day. It is interesting to hear the different comments and to see what each of us consider a celebration.

It is easy to celebrate when things are going good and you feel on top of the mountain, but what about when things are going wrong and everywhere you turn you see nothing but heartache, and dismay? Is this worthy of a celebration?

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice in it".

So what IS the best day to celebrate?
the day that things are going great? or the day things are all messed up?

The best day to celebrate is TODAY.

No matter what your circumstances may be, today is a day of celebration as we consider the Good News of Christ. God has given each of us the gift of life (here on earth) and also the promise of eternal life (in heaven).

ISN'T THAT WORTHY OF CELEBRATING TODAY?
Go ahead, and let the celebration begin!
