It was Eustace Mullins, in an interview on TFC, who stated that there wasn't "a dime's worth of difference" between Fascism, Communism, Socialism, Marxism and Zionism. The vilified "Red-baiting" Joseph McCarthy was an unsung hero. Bolshevism, like Nazism, was financed by a group of Wall Streeters, including Jacob Schiff. Marxism was founded by Moses Mordechai Levy (aka Marx). Communism, like the rest of the ideologies it resembles, has its roots in Talmudism.

So why is it that so many in the Anti-Zionist movement take on the mantle, and often the images, of "The People's Struggle", raised clenched fists, images of Che (who was probably, like Castro, a crypto-Jew), and the usual mess of tired, worn-out Socalist-Communist rhetoric? For an example of an honest-to-goodness leader who was neither racist, sexist, nor classist, and who stood firmly for all oppressed and suffering, do we need look any further than Jesus, the original Anti-Zionist?

FreeGaza has a wishlist of books for their book drive for Gazan universites. The first four pages contain about a dozen or more Marxist or Marxist-themed tomes. What is it with academia and Communism? What has Karl Marx got to do with freeing Gaza anyway?

Huwaida Araf, the Board Chair of Free Gaza, is also the founder (with husband Aaron Shapiro) of the International Solidarity Movement. I don't have a problem with that outside of the fact that "international" and "solidarity" are often used together in the same sentence by the Marxists. It just bugs me.

Artist Benjamin Heine, I assume is Jewish. He is also from the looks of it, critical of Israel's warmongering. However, Marxist ideology comes side by side with pro-Palestine sentiments:

Don't get on my case about this, but I started to get tired of the news coming from Free Gaza when they started to get just a tad tiny bit maudlin and began slipping ever so subtly into the "struggle" rap.

One article on the most recent voyage of the Hope Fleet talks about "conditions resembling a horror movie" regarding the crew having to stay under guard by Israeli soldiers while sleeping on cockroach infested floors for one night. Hell, they should have seen my room in Tokyo. The critters tap danced across my back every night and all I could do was hide under the futon (and get roach traps at the store eventually).

I've been to 50 countries. I've survived all kinds of third-world living conditions, stinky, dirty toilets, sex harassment, jerky drunk tourists, creepy sex tourists, two-faced co-workers, bad water, getting gypped, ineffective prescription drugs, bugs in food, dirty mattresses and pillows, stifling heat, freezing cold, pouring monsoon rains, rats, roaches, mosquitoes, Japanese mafia, earthquakes, hurricanes, wild thunderstorms, severe airplane turbulence, dangerous wiring, leaky boats, food poisoning, dysentery, poison jellyfish, barracudas, vicious stray dogs, assaults, maniac drivers, xenophobic locals, accidents, third world hospitals, menacing looking soldiers and security guards with rifles, a few attempted muggings (one by drugging) and witnessed police beating suspects. I didn't travel like that because I wanted to. I just couldn't afford the package tour. One night with cockroaches and menacing guards in a hot room probably isn't going to kill you. It's nothing worse than what soldiers have to deal with in Iraq.

Don't get me wrong. I am NOT condoning the actions of the Israeli government in handling the Hope Fleet. However, their behavior should be expected, not met with naive surprise. If I was on this mission and the Israelis put up the crew in the King David wing at the Dan Tel Aviv with mints on the pillows and the sheets turned down, now THAT would be a surprise!

I thought the Mossad agent who made me stand for three hours at Ben Gurion airport while going through every inch of my luggage and grilling me about my visits to Arab countries stamped in my passport was pretty tiresome to the point of being brutal. She, in her indoctrinated mind, was just "doing her job". A good Israeli protecting Israel from the likes of Arab loving nuts like myself. The soldiers and bureaucrats trying to run the Hope mission out of Gaza are just seeing it their way. Don't expect to cure their brainwash anytime soon.

Obama, who once stated that the embargo on Gaza should be lifted, who is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to alleviate an illegal seizure of a peace mission, is the one who should be feeling the heat right now. Obama, the State Department, and the American Embassy in Israel. Where are they when we need them?

Getting back to Marxism, I may be getting aggravated because I went to a very PC college (same one as Rachel Corrie, who IMO, is a wonderful example of an activist) where whining about "social causes" is common. Most are students and faculty who are white, and middle or upper class. Their major struggle in life amounts to getting along with their drunken dorm mate while living eyeball to eyeball with them in a 10' X 15' room. These are exactly the kinds of loony but well-meaning people you can sell BS like Marxism to, because they are LONGING for an EXPERIENCE. And all their experiences so far have been packaged: Chuck E. Cheese, Disneyland, Club Med, MTV. Marxism looks sexy and adventurous by comparison.

I admire Cynthia and the crew of the Hope Fleet for their efforts at trying to get supplies through a brutal and inhumane blockade of Gaza. Marxist sentiment only undermines their efforts and gives ammo to anyone trying to paint them as "loony leftists".

Someone somewhere said that the Palestinians do not want to be seen as poor, trampled upon, disenfranchised waifs. They have been victimized by Zionism longer than most of us have been alive. They are a particularly resilient group, given all they have been through, and their sheer determination should be applauded. They are victims that don't wish to be viewed as victims.

And that alone is cause enough for our admiration. They need our assistance, money, and goodwill, not a load of Marxist drivel.

Saudis give nod to israeli raid on Iran

The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.

The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.

“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.

Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis.

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations who recently visited the Gulf, said it was “entirely logical” for the Israelis to use Saudi airspace.

Bolton, who has talked to several Arab leaders, added: “None of them would say anything about it publicly but they would certainly acquiesce in an overflight if the Israelis didn’t trumpet it as a big success.”

Arab states would condemn a raid when they spoke at the UN but would be privately relieved to see the threat of an Iranian bomb removed, he said.

Referring to the Israeli attack on an alleged Syrian nuclear facility in 2007, Bolton added: “To this day, the Israelis haven’t admitted the specifics but there’s one less nuclear facility in Syria . . .”

Recent developments have underscored concerns among moderate Sunni Arab states about the stability of the repressive Shi’ite regime in Tehran and have increased fears that it may emerge as a belligerent nuclear power.

“The Saudis are very concerned about an Iranian nuclear bomb, even more than the Israelis,” said a former head of research in Israeli intelligence.

The Israeli air force has been training for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear site at Natanz in the centre of the country and other locations for four years.

What drives US foreign policy? Is it primarily the domestic economy, as it logically should be, or, as many argue, the powerful Israel lobby, or as other argue, the need to secure energy sources? Of course, the answer is all three, in varying degrees depending on the geopoltical importance of the country in question. And woe to any country that threatens any of the above.

Russia is perhaps a special case, as US politics was dependent for so long on the anti-communist Cold War that ideologues found it impossible to dispense with this useful bugaboo even after the collapse of Communism. But it was not only Sovietologists like Condoleezza Rice that perversely prospered from this obsession, but the US domestic economy itself, which was transformed into what is best described as the military-industrial complex (MIC). It would take very little to placate today’s Russia -- pull in NATO’s horns and stop pandering to the Russophobes in Eastern Europe -- but that would hurt the MIC and would hamper the US plans for empire and oil. So it remains an enemy of choice, though not part of the Axis of Evil.

Twitter users can 'buy' followers through a new scheme run by uSocial.

uSocial, a social media marketing company based in Australia, has launched a paid service to track down followers for Twitter users. Followers can be bought in blocks of 1,000 for about £50.

The company finds potential followers by searching through Twitter to discover areas of common interest to match people more closely. uSocial then send these potential followers a message, alerting them that there is someone on Twitter they might want to follow. The potential follower then decides whether or not to follow that person.

A Marie Claire article on Yulia Varra (real name Yulia V. Averyanova, a "psychoanalyst and sexologist" according to her website) says Miss Yulia (thrice divorced) is running a Geisha school for hopeful future brides. A sort of whore-school-for-desperate-Russian women-who-want-to-snag-a-rich-man.

Her rather graphic website advertises classes in "Group Sex" and "Tantric Clubs" in three major Russian cities. Trainee employees for the clubs (women between 25-35) are paid a "grant"- no indication on how long one must remain a "trainee".

According to the article, "The economy has boomed, creating a superrich ruling oligarchy and a huge class of cash-loaded entrepreneurs...outside the new rich elite, decent prospects remain sparse. Russian women outnumber men by more than 10 million, and many men suffer from joblessness, chronic alcoholism, and early death (male life expectancy here is 59).

Holding on to a good man long-term is an equally high-stakes matter. Divorce in Russia is easy; a powerful man can divorce his wife "in an hour," according to one local insider. Under the country's anachronistic divorce laws, husbands are generally not obliged to give their wives a penny, and they are often awarded custody of the children. "Relationships are like roulette for modern Russian women," says the insider. "They have a lot to win and everything to lose, so they can never afford to get complacent."

At her LiveJournal personal site, Miss Yulia has a gold menorah in the right hand corner of every page. Hmmm....

And considering the state of affairs that the US is falling into, with our very own (!) SUPER RICH RULING OLIGARCHY, and all the poor Joe Sixpacks who won't be able to BUY a job, it's only a matter of time until Miss Yulia branches out to the West.

Netanyahu Reaffirms Commitment To Racism And Expansionism – Thanks To US Tax Dollars

To judge by the next day’s headlines, Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy speech last month was a great success. “Israeli premier backs state for Palestinians,” declared the New York Times. “Israel endorses two-state goal,” said the Washington Post. “Netanyahu backs Palestinian state,” announced the Guardian.

He did no such thing, of course, unless by “state” one understands an amorphous entity lacking a definite territory, not allowed to control its own borders or airspace, shorn of any vestige of sovereignty (other than a flag and perhaps a national anthem), not allowed to enter into treaties with other states – and permanently disarmed and hence at the mercy of Israel. It would make about as much sense to call an apple an orange or a piano a speedboat as to call such a construct a state, and yet those are the conditions that Netanyahu imposed on the creation of such an entity for the Palestinians (if they get that far in the first place).

The strange thing is that Netanyahu’s speech marked both the definitive end and a symbolic return to the beginning of the two-state solution as that hapless notion has been peddled since the Oslo Accords of 1993-95. For what he said the Palestinians might – perhaps – be entitled to is pretty much what Oslo had said they might be entitled to 15 years ago: a “self-government authority” not allowed to control its own borders or airspace, shorn of any vestige of sovereignty, etc. And on top of that they can also forget about Jerusalem – that is and will forever remain the eternal and undivided capital of the Jewish people.

If it sounds so drearily familiar, that’s because it is: we have come full circle. First time as tragedy, second time as farce.

Oslo actually never mentioned the apparently magic words “Palestinian state”, so Netanyahu actually outdid Rabin and Peres in terms of rhetorical magnanimity. But, rhetoric aside, by bringing the situation full circle back to what they “offered” Yasser Arafat back in the mid-1990s, Netanyahu also revealed to those last few Palestinians who might have believed otherwise that the only kind of Palestinian “state” any Israeli government has ever countenanced (or will ever countenance) will look like what was on offer at Oslo. Netanyahu is offering the same thing all over again because that’s the only Palestinian “state” that Israel will accept. Take it or leave it.

The Palestinians who still cling to the idea of a Palestinian state to be achieved through negotiations (from a position of weakness) with Israel had better absorb this once and for all and move on to other objectives – and other strategies to succeed.

That’s why the return to the beginning also signals the coming of the end. For after all the agony of the past 15 years no Palestinians in their right mind would want to go back to Oslo all over again. Those agreements led to three things: the permanent institutionalization of the Israeli occupation of Palestine; the permanent separation of the occupied territories into shards of land cut off from one another and the outside world (and hence what Sara Roy calls – and the World Bank implicitly acknowledges as – the de-development of the Palestinian economy); and the doubling of the population of Jewish settlers illegally colonizing the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem.

There were just over 100,000 Jewish colonists in the West Bank in 1993; there are around 500,000 there today, including 200,000 or so in occupied East Jerusalem. According to the UN, their population is increasing at a rate three times greater than that of Israel itself, and will double again to about a million within a decade.

This phenomenal expansion is what is referred to as the “natural growth” of the colonies, which in his speech Netanyahu – brazenly defying President Barack Obama – said he would protect. A few more years of this kind of growth and the territory that might once (maybe, long ago) have been considered as the basis for a Palestinian state will be all but eaten up by the sprawling colonies.

There’s hardly anything left of that territory anyway. The UN said two years ago that some 40 per cent of the West Bank is already taken up by Israeli infrastructure off limits to Palestinians; the 60 per cent that remains is broken up into an archipelago of islands so cut off and isolated from each other that a brilliant satirical map has been circulating on the internet representing the West Bank as a kind of Pacific island paradise, with dotted lines showing imaginary ferry routes from Ramallah to Nablus and Bethlehem to Hebron. It would be funny if it were not so sad. And even in most of that 60 per cent, Israel retains security control (that’s according to Oslo; today its army conducts raids wherever it likes – and it does so virtually every day).

What Netanyahu was saying to any Palestinians foolish enough to accept his terms is that if they want to stick a flag in their archipelago of little impoverished islands of territory and call it a state, they can go right ahead.

But for them to get even that far, they must first, he now says, recognize Israel as a Jewish state. This is a new Israeli demand (it first came up during the buildup to the doomed Annapolis summit in November 2007), the latest in a sequence of such demands going back to the 1970s. First, the Palestinians had to renounce terrorism; then they had to recognize Israel; then they had to rewrite their national charter; then they had to tear the charter up; then they had to say – again, louder – that they recognize Israel’s right to exist; then they had to end all resistance to four decades of brutal military occupation. Tzipi Livni, Israel’s previous foreign minister, even said that the Palestinians had to learn to purge the word nakba (referring to the catastrophe of 1948) from their vocabulary if they wanted to have a state. The one thing that Palestinians have not formally been asked to do is to say that they are terribly sorry for having dared to resist the occupation in the first place – and no doubt that demand is on the way as well.

In return, Israel has had to commit to nothing other than a few vague and craftily-worded – and endlessly deferrable – promises. And it has carried out (at its own pace and according to its own terms) a few tactical redeployments of troops and colonists (from a grand total of 18 per cent of the West Bank, at the very peak of Oslo). Some of those redeployments have actually, as in Gaza, made the process of dominating and controlling the Palestinians that much easier (Israel could never have subjected the people of Gaza to the indiscriminate violence it rained on them day and night in late 2008 and early 2009 had the Jewish colonists there remained in place).

The Israelis have always been able to find some Palestinian leader or other to go along with their endless demands, to jump ignominiously through one hoop after another, more like a third-rate court jester than the leader of an unvanquished and defiant people. When one leader finally said enough was enough (as Arafat did at Camp David), he was dismissed and another more pliant one (the hopelessly compromised and unimaginative Mahmoud Abbas) was found to take his place, from among the dwindling ranks of those candidates the Israelis deemed not worth assassinating or imprisoning in a campaign of violence going back to the 1970s. (Indeed, it bears repeating that Abbas and his hangers-on survived to this day only as the result of Israel’s anti-Darwinian process of unnatural selection of potential Palestinian leaders, in which the fittest were eliminated and the most inept were allowed to reproduce).

But this latest demand is too much for any Palestinian leader – even one as endlessly obsequious as Abbas – to accept.

For to recognize Israel as a Jewish state would be not only to renounce (which no leader and indeed no individual Palestinian has the authority to do) the right of return of those Palestinians ethnically cleansed from their homes during the creation of Israel in 1948. It would also be to abandon to their fate the remaining million or so Palestinians (including their descendants) who survived the nakba and have been living as second class citizens of Israel, and perhaps even to give Israel license to expel them all and complete the “job” (as Benny Morris puts it) of 1948.

Israel today is no more Jewish than America is white or Christian. The big difference, though, is that, whereas America (for the most part) embraces its own multiculturalism, Israel still desperately wants to be Jewish. Its absurd demand to be recognized as such (no other state goes around impetuously demanding that others accept its own sense of its national character) is an expression of its own profound insecurity: not its military insecurity – the only serious military threat Israel faces on its own territory is imaginary – but rather its anxious awareness of its status as a botched, and hence forever incomplete, settler-colonial enterprise. Unlike Australia, there were too many aboriginals left standing when the smoke cleared over the ruins of Palestine in 1948. And to this day the Palestinians have refused to simply give up, go away or somehow annul themselves.

That fact – and its attendant anxiety among Zionists – poses a real problem for the million Palestinians inside Israel, whose fate is far from settled.

Western liberals consider Avigdor Lieberman to be right wing because he says openly that he wants the indigenous Palestinians removed from what he considers to be the Jewish land of Israel (to which he came as a Russian-speaking Moldovan immigrant). What they fail to acknowledge is that Tzipi Livni, who ran in the recent Israeli elections as the voice of peace and moderation – the darling of Western liberals – hinted at exactly the same dark fate (“Once a Palestinian state is established, I can come to the Palestinian citizens, whom we call Israeli Arabs, and say to them ‘you are citizens with equal rights, but the national solution for you is elsewhere,’” she said during the electoral campaign – i.e. you are equal, but not really, and ultimately you must look elsewhere for a sense of home). And Netanyahu has long espoused a similar position.

How could he not? This is not rocket science or linear algebra: it is what it means for a state to insist on having a single cultural identity irrespective of who happens to actually be living on the territory it considers its own. It is all too rarely thought of in the same terms, but the violent insistence on monoculture is just as ugly in Israel as it is in Iran, Saudi Arabia, among the cadres of the British National Party, the followers of Jean-Marie le Pen, the hoodlums of Aryan Nation or the hooded posses of the KKK. The drive to obliterate or expunge cultural difference from a homeland conceived of as an exclusive space will always be inherently ugly.

And the fact of the matter is that the expulsion or “transfer” of Palestinians has been a core feature of Zionism as it has been practised since 1948. It is inherent in Zionism as a political program – from right to left – because, if the idea behind Zionism is to establish an exclusively Jewish state (which it is), the only way for a would-be Jewish state to have been established on land that began the 20th century with a population that was overwhelmingly (93 per cent) non-Jewish was through the removal of the land’s non-Jewish population. The sense that there is an inherently Jewish land inconveniently cluttered up with a non-Jewish population that needs to be dealt with somehow or other drove Zionist planning all through the 1930s (the “transfer” of the Palestinians was planned more than a decade before the 1948 war). And, as grotesque as ever, it was on full view in Netanyahu’s speech.

The key moment in the speech came when he said that “the truth is that in the area of our homeland, in the heart of our Jewish homeland, now lives a large population of Palestinians”. This attitude comes straight out of the primitive racialism and imaginary civilizational hierarchies of the 19th century. The Jews are a people with a homeland and hence they have a right to a state; the Palestinians are not a people at all, or certainly not one of the same order. They are merely a collection of vagabonds and trespassers intruding on the Jewish homeland. They have no rights, let alone a centuries-old competing narrative of home attached to the same land, a narrative worthy of recognition by Israel.

On the contrary: the Palestinians must accept that Israel is the state of the Jewish people, and they must do so on the understanding that they are not entitled to the same rights. “We” are a people, Netanyahu was saying; “they” are merely a “population”. “We” have a right to a state – a real state. “They” do not. “They” have to recognize “our” rights; “we” owe “them” nothing in return, except, possibly, a curt nod of dismissal from “our” view into the walled-off ghettoes and cantons which we might (perhaps, if “they” behave well) be persuaded to build for “them” on “our” land – and “they” had better be grateful even for that.

This racialized sense of inherent entitlement and unique superiority – fuelled (in just the way that a child is spoiled by over-indulgent parents) by over 100 billion of our tax dollars, the endless deference of our elected representatives, the open-ended diplomatic cover provided on demand by all our presidents after Eisenhower – is what allows Israelis like Netanyahu (and Lieberman, and Livni, and Olmert, and Sharon, and Rabin, etc.) to threaten, bellow at and admonish the Palestinians. It is also what allows Israel to occupy Palestinian land, demolish Palestinian homes, starve Palestinian children, imprison and shoot Palestinian youths, tear up Palestinian olive trees, crush Palestinian aspirations, while believing – really sincerely believing – that Israel is the real victim of everything that has happened. And, unbelievable as it is, that idea too (that Israel is the real victim of Palestinian aggression) was repeatedly expressed in Netanyahu’s speech. Make no mistake that he really believes it; it’s astonishing to anyone with even a passing knowledge of the history, but most Israelis, and most of their supporters in this country, really do believe in this totally inverted – and perverted – view of history.

Such attitudes, such views, are the inevitable products of endless indulgence.

No matter what the best way forward is – two states or one – it is absolutely vital for the American people to call their leaders to account and to demand that this indulgence must end, for the sake of everyone involved. And until our politicians learn (or are persuaded) to do the right thing, it falls on each of us to do what we can to end the indulgence and to bring pressure to bear on Israel. Heeding the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions is the obvious place to begin.

A U.N. human rights investigator on Thursday called Israel's seizure of a ship carrying relief aid for the Gaza Strip "unlawful" and said its blockade of the territory constituted a "continuing crime against humanity". Israeli authorities on Tuesday intercepted the vessel, which was also carrying 21 pro-Palestinian activists, and said it would not be permitted to enter Gaza coastal waters because of security risks in the area and its existing naval blockade.

Richard Falk, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the move was part of Israel's "cruel blockade of the entire Palestinian population of Gaza" in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibiting any form of collective punishment against "an occupied people". Falk, an American expert on international law, said Israel's two-year blockade of Hamas-ruled Gaza restricted vital supplies such as food, medicine and fuel to "bare subsistence levels".

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said in a report this week that Israel was also halting entry to Gaza of building materials and spare parts needed to repair damage from its 22-day invasion late last December. "Such a pattern of continuing blockade under these conditions amounts to such a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions as to constitute a continuing crime against humanity," Falk said in a statement released in Geneva.

Prior to leaving Cyprus, the ship was inspected by Cypriot authorities in response to Israeli demands to determine whether it carried any weapons, according to the U.N. investigator. "None were found and Israeli authorities were so informed." "Nonetheless, the 21 peace activists on the boat were arrested, held in captivity and have been charged with 'illegal entry' to Israel even though they had no intention of going to Israel," Falk added.

ISRAEL ENVOY SAYS FALK "BIASED"

Israel's ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, Aharon Leshno-Yaar, rejected the remarks by Falk whom he said was "known for his bias against Israel and anti-Israel statements". Israel is allowing relief aid to reach Gaza in coordination with Egypt and the Palestinian Authority, Leshno-Yaar said. "Clearly the purpose of that ship was to create a buzz and serve as a propaganda vehicle against Israel," he told Reuters.

Activists from the U.S.-based Free Gaza movement said that Irish Nobel peace prize laureate Mairead Maguire and former U.S. congresswoman Cynthia McKinney were among those aboard.

Falk, who is Jewish, has had his own difficulties with Israeli authorities in trying to fulfil his independent mandate for the U.N. Human Rights Council. Last December, he was detained and turned back from Israel, forcing him to abort a planned mission to Gaza -- a deportation denounced by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

In a report last March, Falk said Israel's year-end military assault on the densely population coastal strip of 1.5 million appeared to constitute a grave war crime. Amnesty International said in a report on Thursday that Israel inflicted "wanton destruction" in the Gaza Strip in attacks that often targeted Palestinian civilians [IDnL2307109].

He is due to be sentenced Wednesday for assaulting an Israeli policeman two years ago during a confrontation over an attempt to demolish Palestinians’ shacks on disputed land on the West Bank. The policeman said Mr. Nawi struck him during that encounter. Mr. Nawi denied it, but in March a judge convicted him.

“I’m here to change reality,” he said. “The only Israelis these people know are settlers and soldiers. Through me they know a different Israeli. And I’ll keep coming until I know that the farmers here can work their fields.”

TORONTO — Last week’s three-day York University-sponsored conference on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was met with three days of protests from concerned members of the Jewish community who feared the event would promote an anti-Israel agenda.

According to UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA), when the latter organization assigned three people to attend Israel-Palestine: Mapping Models of Statehood and paths to Peace, their fears were confirmed.

“The conference devoted virtually no time to suggestions about an invigorated peace process and concentrated instead on Israel as a military machine determined to dominate the Palestinians,” the organizations said in a joint statement.

“There was no discussion of terrorism or Israel’s security needs and there were no speakers who presented an Israeli centre-left or centre-right perspective. The assumption that Zionism and Israeli society are based on violence and racism predominated.

“At one panel discussion, ‘Zionists’ were blamed as the cause of domestic violence perpetrated by Palestinian men against Palestinian women. At another, some participants questioned the sanity and integrity of an Israeli presenter. Speakers who defended Zionism were often jeered and heckled and virtually all of the publicly available material was anti-Israel.”

Rev. Wright: I Meant "Zionists," Not Jews

On Wednesday, we reported on remarks made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, President Obama's former pastor, where he complained that "them Jews aren't going to let [Obama] talk to me."

Now Wright has addressed those remarks, as ABC News reports. Speaking on satellite radio, Wright said he "misspoke" when he complained that "Jews" were keeping him away from the president. The word he really meant to use, Wright said, is "Zionists."

"I’m not talking about all Jews, all people of the Jewish faith, I’m talking about Zionists," Wright told Mark Thompson, according to ABC. You can listen to portions of the interview here.

Though Zionism originated over a hundred years ago as a movement to establish an independent Jewish state, the term "Zionist" is sometimes now used in a derogatory way in reference to those who strongly support Israel.

Wright criticized Israel in the interview and referenced the book "Judaism Does Not Equal Israel: The Rebirth of the Jewish Prophetic."

"They can jump on that one phrase if they want to, but they can’t, they can’t undo history," Wright said, according to the ABC transcription. "They can’t undo the facts of Jewish historians and Jewish theologians who write about what’s going on, who write about the enormous influence that AIPAC has on our government and on United States policy and the United Nations.”

He added that the "Jewish vote, the AIPAC vote" is controlling the president and "would not let him send representation to the Darfur Review Conference."

"…'cause they’re Zionists, they would not let him talk to someone who calls a spade what it is," Wright said.

Mr. Obama cut off contact with Wright during his presidential campaign in the wake of revelations of several controversial comments by the pastor, among them "God Damn America." Wright said in the interview that he had mistakenly used the word "Jews" instead of "Zionists" because he was "trying to talk rapidly" and get an interviewer to focus on something other than the president.

Wright said in the interview that he decried the Holocaust museum shooting that took place earlier this week. He also called the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller "insane."

"It's a very short ride between fundamentalism and fanaticism," Wright said.

My First Christians United for Israel Event

I attended my first Christians United for Israel event last night.

For those of you who don't know, Christians United for Israel was launched by well-known evangelist John Hagee in 2006 and has quickly become the face of Christian Zionism in the United States.

The organization recently sponsored its 100th Night to Honor Israel event. These affairs are high-spirited, pro-Israel rallies that draw mostly evangelical Christians.

I attended a more sober happening, a kind of informational session called a Stand for Israel Event at the historic First Baptist Church in Hightstown, N.J. Andrew Summey, the organization's regional coordinator, addressed a crowd of about 30 for a little more than an hour. My back-of-envelope observations:

There was a fair amount of guilt expressed over the Christian response to the Holocaust. "Where was the Christian movement during the Holocaust?" Summey asked his audience. "Can we really speak of one here in America? We have a lot to learn, and we have to learn quickly."
About a third of the audience was Jewish. One spectator was a rabbi from a local Reform synagogue who brought his father, a Holocaust survivor. Another was a member of a nearby Conservative Jewish congregation. "Sometimes we feel outnumbered—we're a very small people," he told the crowd when the floor was opened up for questions. "Having friends like you really makes a huge difference."
Some of the case for Christians supporting Israel is one of self-interest. "World War II started as a hatred of Jews but ended in the total destruction of Europe," Summey said in his presentation. "That's a warning to all of us: What makes us think we will escape? The Jews are the canaries in the coal mine."
From an informal survey, the crowd appeared to be highly educated and professionally successful. The church deacon who arranged the event is an attorney recruiter in New York. Another person I spoke with is an engineer at nearby Princeton University.
Though Summey decried the current electoral crisis in Iran, he refrained from criticizing President Obama's response—and only once knocked the president's Israel policy, in response to question from the audience.
Summey told me that Christians United for Israel is about to send a group of 35 American college students on a trip to Poland and Israel to learn about the Holocaust and the Jewish state. The plan is to make this an annual fellowship. This is an organization with a growth plan.

[23 miles off the coast of Gaza, 15:30pm] - Today Israeli Occupation Forces attacked and boarded the Free Gaza Movement boat, the SPIRIT OF HUMANITY, abducting 21 human rights workers from 11 countries, including Noble laureate Mairead Maguire and former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (see below for a complete list of passengers). The passengers and crew are being forcibly dragged toward Israel.

"This is an outrageous violation of international law against us. Our boat was not in israeli waters, and we were on a human rights mission to the Gaza Strip," said Cynthia McKinney, a former U.S. Congresswoman and presidential candidate. "President Obama just told Israel to let in humanitarian and reconstruction supplies, and that's exactly what we tried to do. We're asking the international community to demand our release so we can resume our journey."

According to an International Committee of the Red Cross report released yesterday, the Palestinians living in Gaza are "trapped in despair." Thousands of Gazans whose homes were destroyed earlier during Israel's December/January massacre are still without shelter despite pledges of almost $4.5 billion in aid, because Israel refuses to allow cement and other building material into the Gaza Strip. The report also notes that hospitals are struggling to meet the needs of their patients due to Israel's disruption of medical supplies.

"The aid we were carrying is a symbol of hope for the people of Gaza, hope that the sea route would open for them, and they would be able to transport their own materials to begin to reconstruct the schools, hospitals and thousands of homes destroyed during the onslaught of "Cast Lead". Our mission is a gesture to the people of Gaza that we stand by them and that they are not alone" said fellow passenger Mairead Maguire, winner of a Noble Peace Prize for her work in Northern Ireland.

Just before being kidnapped by Israel, Huwaida Arraf, Free Gaza Movement chairperson and delegation co-coordinator on this voyage, stated that: "No one could possibly believe that our small boat constitutes any sort of threat to Israel. We carry medical and reconstruction supplies, and children's toys. Our passengers include a Nobel peace prize laureate and a former U.S. congressperson. Our boat was searched and received a security clearance by Cypriot Port Authorities before we departed, and at no time did we ever approach Israeli waters."

Arraf continued, "Israel's deliberate and premeditated attack on our unarmed boat is a clear violation of international law and we demand our immediate and unconditional release."

Demonizing Iranian Democracy

For the last three weeks the Western media had bombarded us with what they called the Iranian stolen election. They allege that the election was fraudulent and that the masses went into the streets of Tehran protesting the results and demanding new election. The Iranian government is described as fascist and oppressive and is responsible for the chaos in the streets. The opposition is described as reformists and democratic, who are peacefully demonstrating in the streets demanding justice and freedom.

This brings memories of similar previous Western media campaigns about elections in different countries around the world such as 2004 Georgia’s election, 2002 Venezuela’s election, 1992 Mongolias’s election, 1991 Albania’s election, and 1990 Bulgarian election just to name a few, where elections were described as stolen and the winning parties as oppressive of the, usually pro-American, alleged peaceful demonstrators in the streets demanding freedom and justice.

What is worth noting is the fact that none of the entire Western so-called Iran experts, who had strongly claimed that there was an obvious wide scale electoral fraud, had never provided any shred of evidence of such fraud. The lack of any evidence leads one to believe that such fraud accusations are only unsubstantiated accusations based on wishful thinking. They based their evaluation on what they claim the highly unlikely statistical probability that Ahmadinejad would have surpassed his opponents with almost 11 million votes (32%) margin. They denied the possibility of Ahmadinejad’s wide popularity and successful campaigning.

Many had ignored the fact that democratic election is not new in Iran. Iran has a history of three decades of continuous unimpeded elections despite its war with Iraq, the imposed economic embargo, and the attacks of Western-supported terror organizations, such as Mujahideen el-Khalq, Jundullah, and Party for Free Life in Kurdistan, who carried a campaign of assassination of dozens of Iranian lawmakers among many other terror attacks. Iran has established a tradition of peaceful electoral orderliness, where elections are organized, monitored and counted by professionals including university professors, civil servants, and retirees.

None of the last thirty Iranian nationwide elections has been criticized by the West until today for obvious reason. Iran, under Ahmadinejad’s leadership, has developed nuclear industry, strengthened its military forces, and confronted the American forces, who encircled Iran on all four directions as part of the American expansionist ambitions in the Middle East and South East Asia.

Ahmadinejad’s victory came as a surprise to the West especially to the American administration, who expected his defeat. This expectation was based on American covert interventions in the Iranian affairs. It is an undeniable fact that the US has a long history of interference in the Iranian affairs. President Obama admitted to such interference in his Cairo speech in June 4th. Such intervention came in different forms. One mechanism came through what is called National Endowment for Democracy. This is a quasi-governmental agency funded by both the Congress and private organizations, whose main purpose is purportedly spreading freedom and democracy (causing regime change) in other countries by financially supporting foreign organizations sympathetic to the American foreign policy goals. This financial support, in the form of millions of Dollars and equipment, was given to oppositional groups in order to cause chaos and confrontation, especially in election time, to topple down the victorious, usually nationalist, parties, and to erect in their places pro-American governments. Such support was evident in Bulgaria, Albania, Mongolia, Haiti, Venezuela, and in Iran itself.

The National Endowment for Democracy has been active in Iran giving millions of American tax money to anti-governmental Iranian groups such as the Abdorrahman Boroumand Foundation, who supports the National Movement of the Iranian Resistance, and hundreds of thousands of Dollars to the National Iranian American Council. Other money is used to cover the expenses of forming what is called scientific seminars, where Iranian figures are invited to attend, with all expenses paid. Mohammad-Javad Zarif, the Iranian ambassador to the UN, had accused the US of using these scientific seminars as a front cover for political meetings, whose goal was to execute a “velvet revolution” in Iran. Last November Zarif explained that “when the Iranians attend these sessions, they realize they have gathered to discuss measures to topple the Iranian government”.

In 2006 Condoleezza Rice, then the Secretary of State, requested $75 million fund to be spent on mounting the biggest ever propaganda campaign against the Iranian government. The fund was used to pay for radio and television programs broadcasted into Iran, and to provide scholarships

to Iranian students to study in the US. The State Department had also created the Office of Iranian Affairs, with a branch in Dubai, to reach out to Iranian dissidents in their diaspora and to recruit them against the Iranian government. The implicit goal here is to indoctrinate Iranians to effect regime change from within.

With their decision to support terrorist Israel as the dominant nuclear (WMD) country in the Middle East the Western countries concentrated on depriving Iran from any nuclear technologies even a peaceful one. They directed all kinds of pressure, including political, economical and the threat of nuclear bombardment, on the Iranian government to shut down its nuclear facilities. The Iranian government, instead, hastened its nuclear program, bolstered its military, and improved its relationships with many other countries including the Gulf States.

Finally the American administration decided to follow Kermit Roosevelt, Jr.’s Operation Ajax example to effect regime change in Iran. Kermit Roosevelt, Jr. had financed, in 1953, two Iranian thug groups to create chaos in the streets of Tehran and fight each other in order to destabilize Mosaddeq’s government.

ABC News reporters Brian Ross and Richard Esposito reported on May 23rd, 2007 that “The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert black operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell ABC News”.

The London Telegraph, also, had reported on May 27th, 2007 that “Mr. Bush has signed an official document endorsing CIA plans for propaganda and disinformation campaign intended to destabilize, and eventually topple the theocratic rule of the mullah”.

In the New Yorker, June 29th, 2008, Symour Hersh reported that “Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million Dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership”.

President Obama had denied, though, any American interference into the Iranian election. Yet, without any harsh criticism to the Iranian government, he expressed his admiration of the courage of Iranian people, who took to the streets demanding freedom and justice. Obama’s administration knows very well that it will, eventually, have to deal with Ahmadinejad’s government.

Zionist Republican Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John McCain of Arizona criticized Obama’s soft approach and demanded tougher actions. Following Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise, in his foreign policy speech June 4th, to form an international front against Iran, they called for tougher UN sanctions or other measures to put an “end to this tyrannical regime”.

Israel, European countries (specifically British, French, and German), and the US do not really care about those courageous Iranian demonstrators, who have legitimate grievances against their government and aspire for more civil rights yet misguided about how to achieve them. In the eyes of the Western leaders these Iranian demonstrators are “useful idiots”, who need to be sacrificed in order to achieve political gains.

All the Western politicians know very well that the Iranian government, similar to what all the Western countries had done throughout their history, will put an end to the chaos in the streets and maintain order. They also know very well that Iranian policies will not change, at least for now, whether Ahmadinejad, Moussavi, or any other leader forms the government. Similar to all the so-called democratic presidents of the world the Iranian President is a mere executer, rather than a drafter, of these policies.

The real goal of all this propaganda and disinformation war against Iran is to portray Ahmadinejad’s government as an “election stealing illegitimate” government that the free world should not deal or negotiate with as Obama has intended to do.

Holocaust Survivors Still Owed Up to $175 Billion

The study, prepared by international economist Sidney Zabludoff for the Jerusalem-based Jewish Political Studies Review and made available to Reuters Thursday, reveals that hundreds of billions of dollars have still not been paid out.

Restitution efforts have intensified in the years since the end of the Cold War, said Zabludoff, a former White House, Treasury Department and CIA official.

Any fool can see once this lawsuit is won against the Germans, it won't be long before hand picked psychiatric institutes start issuing papers bemoaning the amount of pain and suffering the 2nd generation is experiencing and that there is a real need for some type of compensation.

Once that racket succeeds, that will open the door to claims for "psychiatric" help for the 3rd generation survivors from the bank vaults of Germany, Poland, Russia and any other nation they can scam, who are already undergoing "psychiatric" studies to determine how much pain and suffering they have endured as 3rd generation Holocaust™ survivors.

This week marks the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency. It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political decline in the United States. And it signals the last gasp of the American imperium. That’s over. It is not coming back. And what is to come will be very, very painful.

Barack Obama, and the criminal class on Wall Street, aided by a corporate media that continues to peddle fatuous gossip and trash talk as news while we endure the greatest economic crisis in our history, may have fooled us, but the rest of the world knows we are bankrupt. And these nations are damned if they are going to continue to prop up an inflated dollar and sustain the massive federal budget deficits, swollen to over $2 trillion, which fund America’s imperial expansion in Eurasia and our system of casino capitalism. They have us by the throat. They are about to squeeze.

There are meetings being held Monday and Tuesday in Yekaterinburg, Russia, (formerly Sverdlovsk) among Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and other top officials of the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The United States, which asked to attend, was denied admittance. Watch what happens there carefully. The gathering is, in the words of economist Michael Hudson, “the most important meeting of the 21st century so far.”

It is the first formal step by our major trading partners to replace the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. If they succeed, the dollar will dramatically plummet in value, the cost of imports, including oil, will skyrocket, interest rates will climb and jobs will hemorrhage at a rate that will make the last few months look like boom times. State and federal services will be reduced or shut down for lack of funds. The United States will begin to resemble the Weimar Republic or Zimbabwe. Obama, endowed by many with the qualities of a savior, will suddenly look pitiful, inept and weak. And the rage that has kindled a handful of shootings and hate crimes in the past few weeks will engulf vast segments of a disenfranchised and bewildered working and middle class. The people of this class will demand vengeance, radical change, order and moral renewal, which an array of proto-fascists, from the Christian right to the goons who disseminate hate talk on Fox News, will assure the country they will impose. A-G Holder: No Hate Crime Protection for White Christians or Servicemen

While Google Alert produces scores of items on yesterday’s Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on the S.909, the Hate Crime Bill, only a few go beyond summarizing Attorney General Eric Holder’s submission to give even a cursory account of what was said in opposition.

Under questioning, Attorney Gen. Holder was surprisingly forthright in admitting that the hate bill is not intended to protect everyone, or even the majority. He said only historically oppressed minorities were to benefit. This means Jews, blacks, homosexuals, women, etc. Holder made it clear that if a white Christian male, including a serviceman or police officer, was the victim of a violent hate crime by any minority he would have to find redress from traditional law. He could not avail himself of the triple penalties and rapid government/justice system response given a protected minority.
