He emphasized 3 things in scripture that point to an enemy that we need to dissolve:

1. Idols-Ezekiel 14

We feel a desire for something that turns into a demand. The demand eventually turns into a right. This destroys our passion for God. We must allow God to take control of our heart.

2. Pride-James 4:1-7

Pride is our enemy and humility is our best friend. Hardness of the heart- Romans 1:18-24

God is kind and has mercy, but there comes a point when he will lift his hand from you.

What is in our hearts that we are holding before God?

Is what I am doing going to get me more of God?

Modern Parables video series

Thursday nights @ 7PM we have been enjoying the Modern Parable video bible study series. He delivered a great message about the resurrection. He brought out 3 main points to consider:

1. God desires to be in a relationship with us. Trent lives in Throckmorton and recently started a “Church at the Bar” ministry.

Trent gave us food for thought as he discussed his ministry and the perspective gained from it. Trent challenged us to think about how we minister to others and spread the gospel. He challenged us to serve and teach others in the way that Jesus did rather than in our own comfort zone.

Trent left us with a very important question to ask ourselves, “What am I doing to seek and save what is lost?”

Thanks to Brother Wright

Much thanks to Paul Wright for ministering this past Sunday.
We enjoyed him and his beautiful family. Many folks were out of town but still it was a good crowd. We all love seeing the new faces each week. It doesn't take very many "visits" to feel totally at home around here because there is such a sweet friendly Spirit in the room.

Shannon Waters helped Kelly with Children's church by sharing about his first crusade with the Power Team. He read a testimony from a young single mom who was moved by his testimony in La Grange, TX. He also showed footage of himself breaking a bat and then he ripped a huge phone book in half for the kids... It was awesome.

Dusty Garrison from Abilene shared about the "Highway to Holiness" based on the scripture in Isaiah 35. He did an amazing job of covering a lot of wisdom and truth and yet it was very easy to follow and take to heart because he is such an excellent speaker. His words were powerful and I know everyone was touched... We had a new addition to the worship team in drummer Coby Decker. We may have to have a building program just to accomodate the worship team. I pray God is blessed by our worship. Psalms says God inhabits the praises of His people. The presence of the Lord was surly in our service on Sunday.

Wes Latham brought the message and he really gave us a lot of food for thought ie a bit of conviction. If you weren't convicted by this sermon you were either asleep or you need to check your heart.

Wes message was based on James 4:13-17
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Wes talked about dealing with surface issues when we need to deal with the root issues.
We have the delusion of Self Sovergnity:
1. First danger is putting ME in the center of my universe. Sin is more than outward. It is not Your Party. The Party that is coming is the Wedding Feast.
2. My goal in life is "making a profit, being successful instead of Christ. Matt.6:19
Prov. 6:6-7 "6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.Godliness with contentment is great gain."
3.I cannot accept the "mystery" of life. I want more control. We must embrace His Soverignty even when we don't understand. Deu.29:29 "The secret things belong to the Lord." If I win I praise Him, If I lose I praise Him.
4. I forget eternity and live for today. Ps. 90:12 "So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom." Life is a vapor
5. I fail to live submissively and reject authority. It is an attitude of the heart.
Matt. 6:10 "your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
6. I desire praise of men, therefore I boast not in Christ but in me. Root is boasting in Me. Yea Me. John15:5 5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. We can do nothing apart from Christ the vine.

There is no difference in our arrogance or our self pit.
Arrogance is believing in my own strength which equals pride.
Self Pity is believing in my weakness which equals pride.

We had a good time of prayer and ministry after the service.

NOT BELIEVERS CHAPEL

I am sooo glad we don't have these kind of services:

Did you hear about the church service where the minister had a long dry sermon. At the end of the service he announced he wished to meet with the church board following the close of the service. However, the first man to arrive was a total stranger. "You must have misunderstood my announcement. "This is a meeting of the board", said the minister. We sang a few new songs and then some favorites like Shout to the Lord and We Bow Down... Good stuff...

Kelly gave the lesson for children's church and the Shannon Waters preached.

Shannon took the scripture from Revelations concerning luke warm Christians and "knocked it out of the park". He spoke with passion and personal conviction and challenged us to live passionately for God. He reminded us to pray, interceed, read our bibles and seek God first. Wow. There is not one person in the church, I believe, who did not need to hear this gentle rebuke and gracious reminder. Brothers and sisters, we are not to be riding the fence!

We pray for the Grace of God to renew us all with the Fire of the Holy Spirit...
Not to us, but for Your name Oh GOD...

This Sunday was another day that we were happy to be together in the presence of God.

We had a lot of folks gone to this weekend due to the Chrysalis and other events. We still had a large crowd and were happy to have lots of visitors.

Dusty Garrison preached this Sunday a message titled 'The Name of God'.

95% of Americans say that they believe in God. But what God are they believing in? What God are they looking for? What is His Name? Does He have a name?

Dusty Garrison opening text came from Exodus 3:13,14. He then began to expound on The Lord Is My Banner. We can look to Him as our victory and banner and find encouragement.

August is here!

Barnabas was here this Sunday again. many of us who were not here the first time were so blessed by his sermon on the story of Joseph. The point of the sermon was that God often takes us on paths that make no sense. His ways are higher than our ways. The story of Joseph and many others in the bible illustrate God's unconventional ways to do things. The ultimate truth is that God is sovereign and He will have his way.
This sermon was a blessing to everyone and I can't imagine anyone not needing to hear it. We were so glad to have Barnabas, Justin (his wife), and baby Henry.

Worship was great. Leann Tidwell taught children's church. She talked about how chores are what God wants us to do. There are times when parents delegate chores to kids and that God delegates "chores" to parents. We all need to joyfully take on the tasks that God, parents, teachers or others give us.

We had a wonderful meal after. Lots of folks stayed around.

Later that evening, the deacons had a meeting and I hear we are getting our skylights tinted and new ceiling fans!! Yee Ha!

Also, a few folks showed up for our prayer walk. We met at the City Hall and prayed there for our town and it's leaders. We then traveled to the Munday Elementary school, football field, and High School to pray for the kids, staff, and the upcoming year.

We are planning on making these prayer walks regular events in Munday... The next one is planned for early October. All churches and individuals are welcome to please join us!

This Sunday was another wonderful day to be together at the chapel. We had lots of new faces and lots of visitors who came to hear Bill Myers give his testimony. Bill is a long-time Munday resident who had his life radically changed after alcoholism and tragedy cost him almost everything he had including his marriage. He talked very candidly about his struggles and his mistakes and how different his life is since his life was changed by God. If you missed it and you know Bill Myers, strike up a conversation with him and ask him about it. He is a walking and breathing miracle.

What can I say? Worship, children's church, and everything was great this past Sunday...

Life Group was at Doug and Leann Tidwells this Sunday. We enjoyed fried fish, okra and the works. We also enjoyed a great discussion time. These meetings are knitting us together as a close family of brothers and sisters in Christ.

This coming Sunday there is a deacons meeting at 6 and a special event for all at 7pm... Stay tuned!

Watch this...

Could not pass this one by....

Darrell wuz here!

This past Sunday was a great day to be at church. In fact, if everyone had shown up, some of us might have had to sit on the floor! We had lots and lots of new faces and gillions of kiddos! Wow! Worship was great. We did the "turn around song" for Shannon who managed to do the motions while playing bass-- pretty nifty, huh.? If only Mike Hoard would have been there for me to harass. (Mike's not much of a "church dancer".)

Kevin Smith joined Rubin in the "Hard Rock corner" for the third Sunday in a row... It was awesome with everyone singing so loud. It is fun to sing to God with complete joy. I know that He is pleased when His "kids" enjoy Him.

Shannon lead the children's message. He demonstrated how we can trust God by using a large rat trap. It was really impressive. If you see Shannon, just ask for a recap. I am sure he keeps that thing in his pocket, next to his bendy frying pans, and cinder blocks.

Darrel and Kathy came over from Throckmorton and Darrel did his thing! I can not remember everything he said because (1) it was really good and he covered so much ground in just a few words (2) because Darrell didn't put on the mike thing so that I could hear him in the back while I rocked my 3 month old. So I could only try to guess how it ended. Yet, I know it was awesome because there was tears in the eyes of many of the members as they broke out of the giant prayer huddle at the end.

BTW:I am inviting anyone with a more detailed description to please let me post it!

Sunday night we had "Life Group" or "Home Cell" or "House Church" (which ever name suits ya)
at Trey and Ronda's house. Again, both my kids were asleep and I missed the first hour and a half, but when I got there everyone looked really full and relaxed so I guess the food was really good. Also the discussion that I did get to participate in was really good. This is the first time this group has met since the wreck in May... Ronda took pics and I hope to post them soon!

Sunday Sermon

Barnabus Chapman from Graham was our guest preacher this past Sunday. He gave a very insighful message on Romans 8:1-11. This is a familiar scripture for Christians and as he said we are guilty of just quoting parts of the verse...the part we like.

Romans 8:1-11

Free from Indwelling Sin
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

vs. 1 There is no condemnation if you walk in the Spirit. Condemnation is for those who are walking in the flesh. They are under condemnation. This is to make you realize your need for Christ.
vs. 2 We have a new law the law of The Spirit.
vs. 3 The old law (10 commandments) causes us to know we need a Savior but it was inadequate of save us.
vs.4 We cannot walk in the Spirit unlesss the Spirit abides in us.
vs.5 If your mind is focused on the flesh you will pursue the things of the flesh. You can know where your walking if you think about what your mind is focused on? Is it focused on money, finances, homes or are you focused on God. What is in your mind?
vs. 6 To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
vs 8 Those walking in the flesh cannot please God.
vs. 10 If Christ lives in you ..you are dead to sin. Christ came to replace the old life of the flesh. It is a daily choice. We die daily.
vs.11 He gives life to our mortal bodies...or He gives the ability to walk in the Spirit.
Good News is Jesus came to give us life...to live in communion with God to live in the presence of God. We choose life or we choose death...(vs. 6 to be carnally minded is death)
Are you burdened by the cares of this world. God promised to always be with us. We can choose to walk with God in His Presence or walk in the Spirit. We should remind ourselves daily, The Spirit of God dwells in me. Are you going to set your mind on the things of this world or the things of God?

We had a wonderful time of ministry as many brought their needs to the alter to leave with God.
GOD IS GOOD!
