Beach Days

The beach is by far one of our favorite places to go. We were supposed to go today but alas, things didn't go as planned. Here are some pictures from our last trip on Monday. All three boys do really great there now. They are afraid of the water just enough to not go too far. Judah loves to sit and dig in the sand and his brother join him in between trips to the water's edge.

Judah's Birthday

School's Out!

Jason and Silas are now both out of school for the summer. I don't think I've looked forward to summer time since I was in school. It's going to be nice to not have to be at so many places at specific times and for the kids to have a little freedom in their schedules. Jason had a great year in Kindgergarten at Taper and Silas couldn't get enough of preschool. We are really thankful that our kids go to great schools. We've started swim lessons and look forward to beach days with the George's. What's on your agenda this summer?

Camp Pendleton Mud Run 2007

Last weekend, some of us from our Life group particpated in the world famous Camp Pendleton Mud Run. I of course did not run, but Steve ran and did awesome. He completed the 10K (6.2 miles) in 1 hour 17 minutes and 1 second. The boys and I had fun playing in the sand and cheering them on as they crossed the finish line.

Jason Turns 6

Jason turned the big 6 last week. We went to A Pirate's Dinner Adventure in Buena Park to celebrate along with Ava, Papa and Gigi and JJ's buddies, Ethan and Elijah. We had a blast, even Judah was clapping and cheering for the scallywags! At the end of the show, the kids dressed up like Red Coats and battled the Pirates to save the princess.

Happy Easter

We had a great Easter this year. It was super busy as always, packed with two Easter egg hunts, an egg decorating party, a Tim Matson concert at Awakenings Coffee House, Easter Sunrise Service, Steve taught Sunday School and a gathering with friends at our house. Needless to say, it was full but very fun. Here are some pictures of our boys and from our Easter dinner.

Silas Turns 3!

Siley Bear turned the big 3 yesterday. Last night, we had our small group over for our monthly dinner but we turned it into a celebration, complete with a Batman jumpy house. Silas has been asking for a football helmet for quite some time. Here he is, all decked out in the new football gear. A great photo, capturing the essence of a successful 3 year birthday party.

Silas Starts Preschool

As if it weren't hard enough dropping Jason off for his first day of Kindergarten, we got hit with the double whammy this year and took Silas to his first day of preschool. He is more than ready for his own gig and loves it so far. His teachers are great as he follows his brother's footsteps into RHCC Preschool. Silas is also playing soccer with Coach Clive at Soccer for Tots where he proudly wears his "green goblin" shin guards (shin guards that happen to be green).

Jason Starts Kindergarten

Jason started his elementary school career on September 5th. I cried so much leading up to this day that I was relieved to make it through the first day without shedding a tear. However, today is the 16th and I think I've cried almost every day since then. What's up with that? I'm sure I'll get over it as do most people. It's just hard to fathom that this little guy is already spending his days off at school. I kind of miss him during the day.

Summer - A Day at Del Mar

We went to San Diego for the weekend at the end of August. We stayed with Tim & Greta and spent the day at the Del Mar Race Track where Jimmy Eat World played a show that night. Holly and Ava were here with Zach, so it was a fun family day.

Summer - Beach Days

One of the best things about living in the South Bay is the beach, of course. We enjoyed a few days in Redondo Beach this summer along with our friends. This particular day was Chad's birthday so there were a lot of us there. During summer time, it's so great to be able to be there until the sun goes down. The weather gets slightly cooler as the day comes to a close and the tide starts coming in. The kids go home all tired and sandy and you just feel refreshed having been by the ocean all day. There's nothing like it.

Summer - Super Heroes

This summer, LA experienced some of its hottest days in history. Like most people who live in the South Bay, we don't have air conditioning because we supposedly get enough of an ocean breeze. To escape the heat one day, we went to the beautifully air conditioned California Science Center to see the super heroes exhibit. We got to experience science at its best through the facinating lives of Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Octupus and their super friends.

Summer Vacation

This summer, Steve and I took a long over due vacation alone. We had not done this since our honeymoon and really had not left the kids but for a couple of over nighters since Jason was born. We went up to Santa Barbara for 5 days and left the boys in the very capable hands of our friend Rena, with the help of dear friends who took the boys on some fun excursions while we were away. We stayed at the El Capitan Canyon for a night where we enjoyed "camping" in a private cedar cabin and then followed it with three nights at the Oceana Hotel in Santa Barbara. We had a great time full of uninterrupted conversation, a couple of movies and really goo

d meals out. We visited a couple of wineries in Santa Ynez, went for a couple of bike rides and strolls along State Street. For any one who has kids, this is something so important to do. The best part was simply just having fun together and realizing what great friends we are.

Here are some photos from Heather's birthday party. No, Heather is not the cute little blond in the pictures. She's cute and blond, but she turned 25 or something like that. I can't really keep track of how old she is because she's younger than me but acts way more mature than me. Have any friends like that? The cute little blond in the picture is Peyton D. She's slightly younger than Silas and her parents are in our small group.

Probably one of the best things we've done as a married couple is join a small group. This particular group consists of the people we mainly "do life with." They all have kids around the same age as ours. We meet together on Wednesday nights and talk about married life, parenting, family, God, and trying to live like one who follows Jesus. We consider it a gift to have friends that spur us on to live in a better way and hold us accountable to how we want to be. Not to mention, they are super fun to be around.

Summer - Judah

Judah is now 14 months and still scooting. This past week, he's gained some strength in his legs and appears to be on the highway to walking. We'd better dust off the video camera to capture his world famous boot scoot before it becomes a distant memory. His vocabulary is expanding more and more every day too. He now says "mama, dada, yeah, no, mmmmmi (for milk)" and a slew of other baby noises. Sometimes he talks and talks and talks as though he is telling a very important story.

It's hard to imagine not having a baby in the house anymore. In a few weeks, I'm sure he'll be toddling around and turning our world upside down!

Summer was awesome. Here are some photos from 4th of July. We participated in the Nugent family's annual bash in El Segundo. Fireworks were amazing and right in front of our eyes at the baseball field directly accross from their house. The coolest part was my cousin Laya (from Iran) joined us. She had never seen fireworks live in all her life. It was another reminder of the things we take for granted in our lives in the U.S. Not only freedom, but the little things in life that bring us joy.
