Its been rather too long since I posted any news but there has been such a lot going on that I don't seem to have had the time - I seem to have spent half my life on the M1 and M25 ! The Shiatsu scene is steady - I have met some nice people and horses near Nottingham recently and am off to Lancashire next weekend. I have also done some more local ones and helped out on the equine shiatsu association' s stand at Hickstead in July - nice to see Jill Blake my tutor again and meet some new people. In answer to a couple of general enquiries - I will travel about 50 miles to give equine shiatsu but obviously prefer to have more than once horse to do if I've got that much travelling. However there doesn't seem to be any practitioners between here and Scotland and present so I'm happy to try to do anyone that asks.
There was an excellent article in Equi - ads recently about equine shiatsu and the association has a new look web site - have a look!
My husband seems to have caught the self employment bug - he has decided to use his 1957 thistle grey Sunbeam 90 saloon as a wedding car around the Buxton, Derbys and High Peak area. It isn't a huge car but he can take the front passenger seat out to make more room for wedding dresses etc and its very distinctive. If you want to know more contact me for photos etc.

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-34848504746908687562007-01-31T15:47:00.000Z2007-01-31T15:53:59.845Zequine shiatsu and RAO or COPD in horsesHello everybody

I am trying to write an article exploring the treatment of RAO (restricted airways disease)in horses with shiatsu. I always tell owners that I cannot work miracles! Sometimes good results are seen just after one treatment but many horses find their first treatment a little strange and benefit more from following ones. Some horses find it really hard to relax - you can see their eyes closing and feel everything softening and they they suddenly catch themselves and are tense again, These horses often benefit more from further treatments as they have becomes used to what may be strange sensations to them and also to me working on them. I would not generally do more than one treatment in about 10 days but Pamela Hannay in her book mentions weekly or even daily sessions in some cases. I have found that often the horse needs time to process the treatment and results may be seen quite a while later. As I feel that more than one session is generally beneficial I always offer a discount for follow ups. Sometimes deeper issues emerge as you work and these may take some time to help. usually a few sessions can really help a problem if shiatsu is the answer with possibly top ups at intervals.

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1158230477390339102006-09-14T11:34:00.000+01:002006-09-14T11:41:17.403+01:00hi everyone
Had a marvellous weekend in Scotland in August at the Equine Shiatsu Association's annual conference. We had a great exchange of ideas and it was lovely to put faces to people who have previously only been names. I caught up with my tutor Jill Blake of the Susex School of Equine Shiatsu and took advantage of the offer of a Ride with your Mind lesson from Viv Issacs - thanks to Liz for the loan of a horse. I hope to be able to go to all these conferences as they are very valuable and they are also fun! Unfortunately I have been "off the road" as far as Shiatsu has been concerned as I had to unexpectedly have some surgery. However I hope to be out and about again in a couple of weeks so thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me and been patient about me getting to their horse!

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1153588907999389542006-07-22T18:16:00.000+01:002006-07-22T18:21:48.010+01:00flair saddle fittingHi everyone I've recently had the Flair system fitted to my saddle. I used to have it on a previous saddle and I do think it is kinder to a horse's back and helps to even out pressure. My horse definitely feels more free in his shoulders. If anyone else wants this done or to chat about it I can reccomend Lorna Hamilton who is based in Derbyshire. Lorna fits the Wow saddles made by Flair or can arrange a conversion of your existing saddle. She events so she is sympathetic to a riders needs and knows how it should feel. Lorna can be contacted on 01335 324003.

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1151911831944142412006-07-03T08:26:00.000+01:002006-07-03T08:30:31.956+01:00Hello everyone . I've now completed my reflexology course and have passed all my assessments and tests so am a qualified reflexologist as well now. I've treated a lot of riders as part of my studies and done case histories on them and have found that they've benefited from the treatment - most riders seem a bit stressed , often due to horse problems! and they often have aches and pains which the reflexology really seems to help. Hopefull it means I can offer a more complete service.

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1143299541577273452006-03-25T15:05:00.000Z2006-03-25T15:12:21.596ZI've started to get more enquiries about equine shiatsu now as Spring may be finally arriving, mostly for muscular skeletal problems and /or anxiety and tension - I'm hoping I can help!. People often ask me if I can help their horses backs. Shiatsu is often foung to be very helpful for back problems but Shiatsu therapists don't manipulate and they look at the back problem as part of the whole picture not just as something on its own. I always ask if the saddle has been checked as there is no point in me working away on the horse if its saddle is totally wrong.
I'm currently doing a years course in reflexology so I hope to be able to offer a more all round holistic therapy service to horse and rider. I'm finding that there are a lot of links between shiatsu and reflexology

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1139257297910459572006-02-06T20:18:00.000Z2006-02-06T20:21:37.936ZThings have been a bit quiet on the shiatsu front recently as due to family illness I was away from home 9 out of 13 weekends before Xmas! I don't know about you but the word "exam" fills me with horror. A good friend who is a keen British Riding Club examiner is always on at me to do some Riding Club exams. I passed Level 2 in Horse Welfare about 10 years ago and did do Pony Club B centuries ago! I finally agreed to be assessed as a Horse Welfare adviser as this was just to give people advice about caring for their horses. When I got to the assessment which was at Hyde Park barracks (where the current TV series is being filmed about the House hold Cavalry) she promptly volunteered me to be assessed as an examiner! I will let you know how I got on.

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18354717.post-1130421972053385612005-10-27T15:05:00.001+01:002005-10-27T15:52:11.986+01:00Welcome to "In touch with horses"Well Sue finally has a website and it's nearly finished, just a couple of last little things to finalise.
Lets hope it goes down well!

Sue Eatonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08122818475409764403noreply@blogger.com
