Hey, I got to continue to drool over the 2007 Hyosung GV250 in Silver and Black that I don't even know how to ride but would love to take home. I'm surprised Slam still has it. Y'think maybe it's just waiting for me to stop hesitating and snap it up?

I was lucky enough to be the bass player for the band, Memphis Smith, which also includes my hubby, Rick, on lead guitar and our buddy, Charlie, who really knows how to get some cool sound of of his 1937 National res-o-phonic (I think I spelled that right). If you don't know what a res-o-phonic is, Charlie'd be happy to tell you all about it. Thanks again, Skip, for providing me a lamp on Friday night so I could see where my fingers were going. Unlike my sweetie and Charles, I've only been playing bass for a short time and haven't developed the "feel" of those notes yet. I still have to look at the fretboard to make sure I'm making the right note!

Friday night found our band of motorcycle enthusiasts gathered under and around the awning that housed the beer kegs. Imagine that....! Needless to say, they were an appreciative audience and we all had a blast. We got there after the burgers and hot dogs had already been devoured and had to stop at McDonald's on the way home. Slam made some crack about "the contract" when we came straggling up in the dark to set up our stuff but I'm pretty confident that we fulfilled our musical obligations before the weekend was over.

We did make it in time Saturday evening to watch Greg Land, El Presidente, hand out some hard earned "trophies" to various attendees. My hat's definitely off to the young feller of 85 who came out for the festivities. Once a motorcycle enthusiast, always a motorcycle enthusiast!

The fireworks show on Saturday night was AWESOME! Rick and I agreed that what we saw was probably the best fireworks display we'd ever seen before. I got some pretty cool photos, too, and I'll be posting them on the website soon (and sending some to you, too, Skip!)

Enough from me. Let's hear from the REAL motorcycles riders, guys AND gals, who made it out for the Rally this past weekend. Personally, I can't wait for next year!

Motorcycle Web Chikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04695811113454025314noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18279059.post-1158081040510050142006-09-12T10:08:00.000-07:002006-10-03T13:00:53.350-07:00Sturgeon: Is it a FISH...or is it a MOTORCYCLE RALLY?Do you think he really means STURGIS?????? Last weekend, July 13-16, Slam was in Elkader, Iowa for the 35th Annual MotoGuzzi National Owner's Club Rally. He had plenty of stories to share, so check out the podcast. Remember, Slam can be heard every Friday morning LIVE on KKID 92.9FM from 7:30-8am CST. Prices around here (mid-Missouri) average about $2.75/gallon for regular unleaded. Fortunately, it's getting warm because I can abandon my pickup truck for my convertible. Unfortunately, I can't put the top down....but that's another story. My husband, Rick, bought a motorcycle from Slam last winter to tool around on the farm but he's thinking of licensing it now so he can drive it to and from work!
Val, being the on-the-spot chick that she is, found a gas hotline that continually updates the gas prices and was kind enough to call it during Jammin' with Slam this week. Slam doesn't think so. He's voiced his opinion in this blog before and feels it's time to reiterate his stance. Bill HB994, which is sposored by Rep. Gary Dusenerg, assumes that riders over 21 who choose not to wear a helmet are aware of the risks they are taking and would give those riders the right to decide for themselves whether or not they want to take those risks. It's passed the House with a voice vote and is headed to the Senate. I'm talking about first experiences on a motorized 2-wheel vehicle....!!!!

Paige Eissingernoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18279059.post-1139507820051567992006-02-09T09:20:00.000-08:002006-03-15T13:50:46.420-08:00Yes, Val, I did ride your scooter...OK, I can't be a motorcycle web chik if I never rode a motorcycle, right? Well, I wasn't quite ready to ride an actual motorcycle but thought I'd be OK on a scooter. As you can see in the picture, Slam has a cool orange scooter that I just fell in love with and decided I just had to have for my birthday (sorry, Val...). The problem was, I've never even ridden on a mini-bike. I just started driving the riding lawnmower at my house 2 years ago because my husband, Rick, went to China and I had to mow the grass! I got hooked on that, especially when I discovered that it was really fun...not a lot of work like Rick always told me it was. I always wondered why he'd rather mow the lawn than do the laundry...
Lucky for me, Slam agreed to give me a riding lesson. He demonstrated the "peppy" performance of the scooter before I straddled it myself. Now when Slam tells you it's peppy...he means it's peppy! To make a long story short, I found out it's not quite like riding a bike...or a riding lawnmower. Having never even touched a throttle before, I got a rude awakening when I touched it a little too much. I ended up on the parking lot without being on the scooter and Slam looked like Fred Sanford getting ready to "join Elizabeth"...I got off with a bruised and scraped knee and Slam discovered his heart was stronger than he thought. No, Val, I didn't screw up your scooter (well, I put a few scratches on it). Undaunted, I sent Rick a picture of the scooter and told him I wanted it for my birthday. After all, I already wiped out in Slam's parking lot so I got that part behind me, right? His response...
"I'm not spending $800 for you to kill yourself....stick to 4 wheels!"
Well, that was MY first experience with a motorized 2-wheel vehicle. What was yours?

Paige Eissingernoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18279059.post-1139015613004403962006-02-03T17:08:00.000-08:002006-03-15T13:51:28.133-08:00Jammin' with Slam 02-03-06: Happy Belated Birthday, Val!Slam may have missed Val's birthday, but he made up for it with a very special (and very aromatic) surprise!

Paige Eissingernoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18279059.post-1138565610795037422006-01-29T12:10:00.000-08:002006-02-03T05:40:40.386-08:00Jammin' with Slam 01-27-06: I Love You More Than Beer
Even a biker can be romantic...

Val's introduced Slam to some new reading material....

Paige Eissingernoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18279059.post-1138136096933524332006-01-24T12:53:00.000-08:002006-01-27T05:54:02.736-08:00Jammin' with Slam 01-20-06: He's Baaaaa-aaaacckkk!
Welcome back to Missouri, Slam!
We missed ya...and we're ready to hear about the trip AND the great Hyosung bikes you have at Interstate Motorcycles!

Paige Eissingernoreply@blogger.com0
