GRANITE QUARRY STATUE

I saw this statue when we visited the Granite Quarry Museum last weekend. There is such an antique feel to the art piece that I thought I would add some film grain texture to the picture. I believe the statue is over one hundred years old. Work in the Quarry began in about 1870.

DRIED BUCKEYE LEAVES

I don't want to belabor the dryness but apparently the buckeye trees are the ones showing the most brown, dried leaves.
I'm not sure why they are failing . Does anyone know?

REASON FOR THE WILDFIRES

Here is one reason for our terrible wildfires in California.
Its as dry as can be.
Hubby and I hiked at the Griffith Quarry in the little town of Penryn, CA. this weekend.
So many of the trees looked like it was a Fall day instead of Summer. It is a tinder-box there.
It was a great little hike inspite of the heat and smokey conditions coming from the mountains.

NEIGHBORHOOD BALLOON WARS

As part of the neighborhood Fourth of July block Party - Water Balloon Wars was played.
Its hard to see, but the two dads are holding a rubber sling-shot device and the boy in blue has just pulled the sling-shot back (filled with a water balloon) and let go. The balloon was propelled down the street to another group of kids and their parents. Each tried to catch the water filled balloon but I'm sure you know what happened......splat......!!
Don't you love the anticipation as the kids watch their friends get wet?
You can also see that most of the kids are holding their ammunition, ready for their next turn.

HAPPY 4 TH OF JULY

Today we celebrate Independence Day in the United States. I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and a wonderful weekend.
We are spending the day with our son and family. They are having a neighborhood party with food, fun, and fireworks. The kids are going to have a bicycle parade and there are rumors of a water balloon war in the works.
I hope I can take a few interesting photos to share with all of you.

OLD BOAT HOUSE

Hi, and thanks for all the comments while hubby and I were gone.
We were at one of our favorite places, Lake Tahoe.
We loved seeing some new places and took a tour of an old resort area, called Valhalla, which is now part of the U.S. Forest Service. It is run by the Tahoe Tallac Association and they help keep everything authentic and beautiful.
I really like the textured siding on this old boat house and thought the intense sunlight and shadows made an interesting picture.

Hubby and I are taking off for a little rest and relaxation. We won't be home until Thursday and I didn't want to miss ABC Wednesday.

A few of my fellow bloggers wanted to see the car "attached" to the steering Wheel I posted for ABC Wednesday. So here it is. I think its a pretty snazzy touring car. I love the crank in the front to get the 1925 Ford going.

SMOKE

I went outside today at 11 AM. This picture doesn't show too well how much smoke is in the air from many major wildfires burning. Most of the wildfires were triggered from the weekends lightning swarm. There are now 22 major wildfires burning from the Oregon border down through the Central Valley. The area is considered Northern California. Fortunately for us there aren't any fires in our immediate area. Most are in rugged, difficult access areas.
The sky pictured isn't overcast, that's smoke ... I could taste it and my eyes started watering so I took a shot and hurried back inside.
Yesterday we could hardly see across the street.
If you look at the trees in the far background you can see the smoke just hanging in the air. Its so murky and everything is a strange yellow grey.

SLIPPERY AND SOAPY

One year ago this weekend my husband and I moved to Rocklin, California. After the initial move in our son and family and hubby and I went to the Placer County Fair and to the Soap Track 200 lap car race, and we did it again tonight. It was a great way to unwind. The entire track has been flooded with soap suds and then they turn the sprinklers on . The added obstacles were huge truck tires placed around the track. You can see one in the picture. Notice that the track is white..that's the suds dripping down the raceway. The tires, soap and water made plenty of excitment. All the cars get pretty banged up but no injuries, just good clean (pardon the pun) fun.

WHERE WE WERE THIS LAST WEEK

This last week Hubby and I worked at Breakaway to the Royal Kingdom. This is the annual Day Camp our church creates for 1st through 6th graders. There were over 2000 super charged youngsters attending and over 1000 volunteers helping make this one fabulous camp for everyone. There was even a separate on-campus daycamp for infants through kindergarten. This was for the volunteers' children. Everything was themed around castles and knights.
The picture shows the castle front erected at the entrance to our Celebration Center. Nothing is ever done just halfway here! It was an amazing week and we were thrilled to be a small part of such a big adventure. Hubby worked on security and I helped with snacks for the little guys. We are exhausted but you know, its a good exhaustion. The week was well worth every effort.
