Inspiration & details of Battle Collection 2005

The mood of the these magazine tears and pictures inspired me for the Battle collection. They have a feeling of being mellow, bold, colourful and washed out. These images and words gave me inspiration for the Battle collection.

The story behind the Battle collection was that of going out to markets, post office,supermarkets and local villages. That why I chose picture of stamps, fresh food, women with untmaed hair and the coutryside. Going to the shops is a necessity and the idea of battling the weather came about and that's how the collection was started. I had a feeling that no matter what the weather forecast was the garments you wear have to show your a happy and colourful person. This feeling is reflected in my designs and the thought of going to battle and having to deal with the weather by dressing in a lady like way.

The first image that inspired me was one that I took in Norfolk of a normal country road with a red telephone box on the grassy side.
I loved the natural green colours of the surrounding shrubs and grass that contrasted with the red phone box and this initially inspired me. I used the other colours from the stone wall, the bin, wooden bench and the telephone pole and went with that palaette of colours.

Grey: cotton stretch: long bell sleeve top with netting on neck, ribbon trimmings and silver sequin detail on sleeve hem

Green/Gold iridescent: cotton: full puffball skirt: aqua lace waist band: white netting: blue and green plastic flower buttons fasten at the side

Exclusively designed, adorned, machine and hand sewn
by Michelle Manus
