Very interesting post, particularly about the saffron. The pictures look so much like similar markets in Athens, where I've spent a lot of time. I've always wanted to go to Istanbul, and your pictures have only sharpened my resolve to take the trip. Thanks for your efforts.

Hi Carolyn! It's lovely, isn't it. Oddly, the easiest place to find it in the UK seems to be in gift shops, particularly those attached to stately homes etc. - it's one of those things you're very likely to find in National Trust shops. Some good delis carry it too - I've seen it at Burwash Manor Barns near Cambridge.
