Real Estate recently got the “best new music” designation from Pitchfork. They’re from New Jersey and have a little bit of Yo La Tengo influence.
[Recommended] Bobb Bruno @ Echo Curio – He always entertains me with his samples and his bunny suit.
[Recommended] Fanfarlo / Freelance Whales @ The Echo ($12) – Fanfarlo’s are a band of Londoners who sound quite a bit like a more listenable version of Beirut (maybe 65% Beirut, 25% Arcade Fire and 10% Neutral Milk Hotel).

Real Estate got best new music from Pitchfork for their album. Best Coast is a local band (also featuring Bobb Bruno) that has caught the attention of a lot of the country’s tastemakers. Pearl Harbour were recent featured on the cover of LA Record.

Ray Davies put on a fantastic show on Saturday night at the Orpheum. If you get a chance to see him on this tour do not hesitate. More on that later.

Another great week this week. If you're into buzz bands you might want to check out Drums tonight, The Big Pink on Wednesday, Tape Deck Mountain on Thursday, Neon Indian on Friday and The XX on Saturday. Some of those will be good, but I'm recommending a variety of things...

Ray Davies Appears at the Orpheum on Saturday Night

I didn't get up to as much as I'd hoped last week, but did catch Julian Casablancas and the Happy Hollows at Spaceland. Casablancas didn't do anything to win me back, but most of the crowd seemed really into it.

I'll definitely be at Ray Davies this Saturday and I'll most likely check out more of the Happy Hollows tonight.

Blk Jks Play Spaceland On Thursday

Nights like Thursday are just a cruel joke to live music fans. It's another insane week of shows - old legends, new legends, 90's heroes and current Pitchfork darlings.

I caught Polvo last Saturday. The problems I had with their set list a few months back at the Echoplex were corrected. Great set. They played everything I wanted to hear.

It’s more along the lines of a psychedelic TV on the Radio. One of my favorite new groups this year. I caught their show a few months back at the Echo. Great stuff.

Amusement Parks on Fire are celebrating the end of their tour opening for Psychedelic Furs and Happy Mondays with a free show tonight at Spaceland. They'll also be shooting a video. Opening the show will be Nighmare Air which features Dave Dupuis and James Smith of Film School.

Finally some official news to report. Yorke will be playing two shows shows at the Orpheum Theatre. His band will feature Nigel Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco. Expect new material and stuff from Eraser. Lucky Dragons open the shows.

Their song “Bruises” (thanks to the iPod Nano commercial) has over 7.7 million plays on Myspace. If they could just get a penny per stream they’d probably make more money off that than they’ll ever make off of touring.
