I made this mix as a part of the Mixin It Up series on Discobelle back in 2007. When I first looked at the list of DJs they had before me I thought to myself, how the hell am I going to stand out from these guys? The DJs they have on there are incredibly dope. An inspiration to the mix was the song "Second Time Around." So here's the mix again, a second time around. I polished it up a little bit.

I read an interview with Dez Einswell a few years ago and he said something about how people collaborate with one another to build great things. The phenomenon of it is puzzling and amazing (i wish i could find the story now).

I was raised to think that I have to be completely independent and be able to do things on my own because one day all the people around me could be gone. Thinking back on it now, the extremity of that situation sounds silly (even moreso for someone on the outside looking in), but it was a fact of life at the time.

I realize the turn of 2009 was three months ago, but I've been thinking a lot about the things I've learned recently. It's ok to ask for help sometimes. I grew bitter for a while because I felt like the efforts I were making were not being reciprocated or appreciated. I know it sounds selfish to say, "Why give, if I'm not getting?" But turning out bitter isn't good either. I learned that that's the line where I should stop and find a balance. I'm still learning.

In any case, despite my current circumstances, I feel good that I can look back and learn from my mistakes. There are a lot of people I need to thank for that. I'll be seeing them soon. I've got quite a road ahead.
