My New Favourite Souvenir

Every year, our marketing team will produce some souvenirs which always catch my attention. In 2008, my favourite is this recycle bag co-developed with Alien Technology, which could be zipped in a small packaging, and expand to a full size durable bag for hand carry. Bluetooth RFID Pen Reader

Just try a RFID Pen Reader which could be connected via Bluetooth. It's a High Frequency (HF) based reader and the read range is around 2cm, but it could an nice alternative of barocde for mobile field workers. Our engineer has taken a video and photo to share with you.

Reva Training for Adtio

We're glad to announce that Adtio has been appointed as Reva certificated partner for Hong Kong and China Market. Last week, a Reva technical training was conducted in our Guangzhou office for its flag ship RFID product TAP (Tag Acquisition Processor), a powerful RFID Network Infrastructure appliances.

Just find a video clip on YouTube to explain the basic of RFID and its applications in supply chain. Acutally, it's a promotion video produced by Metro Group 2 years ago, but it gives you a high level overview of the technology and its use in supply chain. It will be a good introduction if you're new to RFID.

RFID Tag Certification

Some customers have concerns of the ratio of readable tags when they're ordering inlay. Acutally, most of the manufacturers will issue a Certifcate of Compliance for the products, which indicate the total number of tag passed the quality check. Here I captured some photos for latest Alien inlay (ALN-9540) with the certification.

RFID in Open Day

This Saturday, we were invited to attend the Open Day of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. Actually, they are one of our customers of Adtio Smart-i RFID System, and I learnt that they were building RFID-based Visitor Tracking System and Lucky Draw System on top of the software. It sounds interesting and we have taken some photos during the visit.

Tea Gathering with Frederick Ma

Last Friday, I were invited by Dr. Winnie Tang, Chairman of Cyberport Tenants Club, to join the Tea Gathering with Mr. Frederick Ma Si Hang, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. During the gathering, we did discuss some potential applications of RFID in Hong Kong. Which aspect is Government interested in? The answer is Food Safty.

RFID in McDonald's

Just read the blog posted by Bjarke Svendsen about the project of using RFID in Korea McDonald's. Here is the abstract of the post:

"Working with SK Telecom, McDonald's in Korea is testing food ordering by RFID (radio-frequency identification). A pilot program in Seoul's Shinchon neighbourhood lets customers place an order by pointing their cell phone at the items they want. Actually, it's not quite that simple—they first need to download software to their phone and then, seated at their McDonald's table, plug an RFID reader into the phone and aim their handset at a menu with built-in RFID chips. Items are automatically charged to their cell phone bill. As soon an order is ready, a message is sent to the customer's cell phone, letting them know that they can pick up their tray at the counter. Visitors Tracking with RFID

Today, we're invited to attend the seminar of "RFID in SMEs of Hong Kong" organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, ISE). It's actually a showcase of the research projects conducted by ISE, which include Phyical Asset Management, Logistics, Counterterfiet Prevention & Healthcare Management, and more. In the event, the RFID embedded badge was used for visitors tracking.

Seminar of RFID for Product Track and Trace

This beautiful Saturday, we have co-organized a RFID seminar called "Appliation of RFID and EPCIS in Production and Product Track and Trace" with City University of Hong Kong (CityU). Typically, most of the RFID application focus on Wal-Mart mandate and inventory management, but RFID is also a good AutoID technology to improve the efficiency of manufacturing processes.

On behalf of Internet Professional Association (iProA), we went to Foshan of China to attend a RFID Business Forum to learn the government 5-Year planning of developing Foshan as a national RFID industrial base. Having more understanding of the policy, we appreciate the commitment of Foshan government on the technology.

Japan Pilot Project Meeting in Shanghai

Last week, our team went to Shanghai to attend Alien RFID Academy, which is hosted in China for first time. Apart from RFID technical updates, we learned many of the real-world RFID deployment experiences, which is definitely benefit for our coming projects. Japan Pilot Project in Shanghai - Execution!

After planning for more than 6 months, Adtio team went to Shanghai to join the Japan Pilot Project Execution last week. Apart from standard RFID label, the project involve different metal tags for tracking the cargo movement with EPCIS standard. Some pictures and video were captured during the project execution to share with you.

Trishaw Tracking with RFID

One of our customers is exploring the feasibility to track the movement of Trishaw in Beijing. With the team of Alien, we have conducted a 3-Day site survey and tested several metal tags to compare the performance on matel-made trishaw.

Fun of RFID with Secondary Students

Can RFID be fun? Last week, we joined the Siemens MEEM Technology Workshop 2006 organized by City University of Hong Kong (Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Managment). This great event aimed to nurture Hong Kong secondary students about RFID technology through a series of funny training and competition.
