This website changed from 6/10 on the home page to 2/10 across the entire site. In the past few days it has reverted to 6/10 for the home page. The cached snapshot of the page is from a different domain.

There is obviously a fault in the Google indexing system or it is being hijacked? I cannot understand how this has happened and I believe there should be better controls in place. There is no reason or excuse for a pgae from a different domain to appear in a cached result.

It raises many questions and to make matters worse the domain that hosted the page that has been cached is dead. If you have any clues please fill me in, I am confused.
Coweb.biz Solutions, products and services businesses can rely on.
adminmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16964457.post-1140579412996405482006-02-22T14:32:00.000+11:002006-02-22T14:36:53.053+11:00Google UpdateGoogle is going through another update cycle at the moment that changes existing approaches to SEO and reciprocal linking. It is very hard to know what Google is doing and the SEO forums are crammed with information that is compiled from analysis and personal observations not facts. As an industry professional I read a lot of this information daily only to shudder at what is claimed by some authors, but there is a core of common SEO practices that everyone unanimously agree do work. As discussed previously having good content on validated web pages that comply to relevant standards is the key to a high ranking. Don't forget to validate the CSS styles used with your pages as well.

A major part of web page validation is to ensure that your encoding is correct (important for browser compatibility) and all of the meta tags to define the page are correct. Many authorities say the "Title" is the most important part of the header and should always include the targeted keywords. The meta tags are important so ensure they have the correct information. Beyond the header and the content links are the next component to complete the SEO of a web site. Links are a highly debated topic with web masters and misused by the majority that could be considered link farms by search engines. There is a very fine line between good link management and a lot of wasted time.

Reciprocal links do not benefit Googles page rank like they used to. This is evident in reports for my websites that show many more links in from other search engines than from Google. The back links displayed by Google for my websites are typically 1 way, from directories, other search engines etc. One way links from pages with relevant topics are the ones that boost page rank and these are much harder to find. The first step is to locate a large number of directories and submit your website. This is better than reciprocal links because there is no ongoing maintenance checking links and adding/editing entries at the expense of content.

"Google seems to have expanded their differentiation between bogus links and links which are earned," said Search Engine Journal's Loren Baker in a recent mail out from http://www.webproworld.com/.

Delivering content to visitors is the main objective of a website not servicing the needs of search engines. A set of related links adds good content to a website that can service customers and increase search engine performance. The links manager on this website proves the theory with over 1200 entries with very few backlinks for a page rank of 6/10. Unfortunately Google only ranks the home page on new websites, this site was published in Sept 2005 and falls in this category so you will only see the page rank on the home page.

Google is sending a clear indication that a links page/s must benefit visitors to a site and not just exist (in an attempt) to increase sites page rank. In essence the cards have been turned where web masters must now work for their links to benefit them and better web design can also help. Directories present an opportunity to maximise the benefits of linking to other websites but the emphasis in reciprocating links must be forgotten or used wisely.

To get the most from reciprocating links you need 3 sites to participate, each links to the site that doesn't link to them. So site 1 links to site 2 who links to site 3 linked back to site 1. A classic triangle that produces a one way link for each website. This becomes very complicated to monitor, reach agreement and control so don't expect the existing reciprocal linking services to accommodate the concept.

Our links management software provides the ability to service multiple sites with unique content from a single database. A central data source minimises maintenance, saves multiple entries for each site and integrates with other site facilities to compliment existing content with relevant links. Next week I will provide more information about the Coweb.biz links management package and how links used as content benefit a site in many ways.
Coweb.biz Solutions, products and services businesses can rely on.
adminmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16964457.post-1140317010696902532006-02-19T13:30:00.000+11:002006-02-19T13:43:30.710+11:00Travel & AccommodationCoweb.biz links manager has a large assortment of links to locate travel resources in South West Victoria, Australia. The concept of "1 web" is to provide a unified service that caters to the needs of users by developing mobile friendly content. It is possible to create web sites that look good when viewed in a browser or with a mobile device. At present viewing a typical Web site on a mobile device does little to enhance or add value to the users experience.

Three component used for mobile connectivity are the web site, a moble device and a web browser working together but the focus of this document is site usability, the deliverables. It is easy to ignore change until it becomes essential and many sites will miss the boat by leaving changes until later. People are using mobile devices today so you are missing out on a growing market if your site is not compliant.

What is needed to be considered?

Usable Screen Width: - 120 Pixels.
Mark Up Language Support: - XHTML - Basic Profile.
Character Encoding: - UTF-8.
Image Format Support: - JPEG, GIF 89a (non-interlaced, non-transparent, non-animated).
Maximum Total Page Weight: - 20k Bytes.
Colors: - Web safe.
Style Sheet Support: - External CSS Level 1, with internal definition of style and font properties.

XHTML is the best standard to work with for all new web projects that conform to the requierements with consideration for the limitations of mobile Iternet connectivity. Presentation of a web site on a small screen and navigating with small buttons that replace the mouse and keyboard are limiting factors. Mobile devices have low connection speeds, the cost to download is higher and payable even if the content cannot be rendered by a device.

The shortfalls require mobile users to have a different set of objectives than desktop web surfers. Filling in forms to become a member and other tasks that desktop systems complete easily become difficult if not impossible to perform with mobile devices. Users of mobile devices want information at their fingertips, thats the purpose of having connectivity in your pocket so new web site should be designed to comply with the best practises.

If you are building a web site be sure that the end result can be delivered to the entire spectrum of connectable devices by insisting on validation to XHTL 1.0 Strict or Transitional, it will pay dividends in the long term.

Coweb.biz solutions are validated to the highest standard possible. We can redevelop existing web sites to the same high standards and improve the search engine performance. Unless a web site builders guarantees compliance to a standard suitable for mobile devices you are only buying a web site that can only deliver to a portion of the target audience. Don't spend good money on a half measure only to pay again to fix it later, start with a professional Coweb.biz solution from the start. Visitors to your site will be pleased you did.
Coweb.biz Solutions, products and services businesses can rely on.
adminmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16964457.post-1136524982252689812006-01-06T15:52:00.000+11:002006-01-06T16:23:02.293+11:00Complying to StandardsI just followed a link to view some template offered by another web design company and all I can say is buyer beware. After changing the browser window the page failed to hold its layout and the flash animation appears in the middle of the page when the screen is panned accross. A bit more investigation revealed that there was 32 errors on the web page offering to sell a set of 8 web page templates for $175.00 US. That is clearly a rip off price let alone the faults in the product. Coweb.biz products are validated to the standards set by the web consortium to ensure it conforms.

Web pages that meet appropriate standards can guarantee they will display content correctly with any browser or Internet device that also complies with the standards. A validated web page that does not render correctly indicates a fault with the browser, they all have some. Tables have display errors in Windows Explorer and Opera has difficulty with many Windows components like online WYSIWYG editors.

Coweb.biz dynamic Internet solutions are not a set of templates that we send you and leave you to sort out. We work with you to add content to the main web pages, customise the look and test to the W3C standard for XHTML 1.0 - Strict. This ensures your information can be accessed from any Internet enabled device - computers, moble phones, PDA's and digital assistants. You have no limit on the number of web pages you create or how many articles you add with blogger.

Don't get ripped off, when you deduct the cost of the blue pin we include with every solution sold to Australian customers our product costs less than $50- US more. Fifty bucks isn't much to pay for the ability to add content conveniently and quickly when you need to. We put you in total control with full support to ensure your web site performs.
Coweb.biz Solutions, products and services businesses can rely on.
adminmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16964457.post-1135158879303356372005-12-21T20:43:00.000+11:002005-12-21T20:54:39.346+11:00Coweb Page RankWe have eagerly waited for this web site to be ranked by Google and it has happened. All the examples on this site have been reduced to only their essential code, and you will find the source displayed on each page to hopefully make it quick and easy to understand the inner workings of the CSS. Unfortunately the availability and uptake of the Internet in the bush has been very slow. Until the community is educated in the use of technology the benefits cannot be harnessed.

The problem is two-fold, the lack of rural users and slow uptake of technology has slowed the development of skills. Without techno wizards based in the outback it is impossible to develop better online systems. Software is an evolutionary process of trial and error until a reliable efficient solution is created to stop erosion of local business to online suppliers traders use the latest technologies and fight back.

Coweb.biz has developed an ecommerce solution tailored to the requirements of Internet users in the bush. Blogs started out as ways for Internet users to share their lives with other people on the web. The task is simplified by intuitive online tools that remove the need to use complicated web design applications like Dreamweaver and Microsoft Front Page to publish content.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are a natural extension of blogging that distribute the content when it is created/updated/edited. RSS syndicate blog postings and news headlines to web sites all over the Internet and a good blog will drive traffïc to your website. Google has a dedicated search engine that lists feeds syndicated by the major high traffïc websites, RSS directories and blog providers.

Google consumes everything from the feeds it monitors providing another avenue to direct traffïc to your website. Coweb.biz solutions provide a simple publishing solution and the content is distributed by Rss.

Google and other websites that use the feed will promote your website for free and all you need to do is publish the right content. Few things in life are guaranteed particually if they are free but immediate search engine inclusion, broad distribution of your information and attracting the right market segment can be with the correct use of a BLOG.
Coweb.biz Solutions, products and services businesses can rely on.
Coweb.bizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16053997738932654326noreply@blogger.com
