The day of the party started with manic cleaning of the flat and decorating it suitably. Then I turned my attention to carving pumpkins.

Oh, scarry!

After the carving I started on making pumpkin punch which consisted of 1 boiled and pulped pumpkin, ginger beer, cider, rum and some water after much experimentation I settled on 2 parts ginger beer, 1 part cider, a half part rum, a part and a half of water and six spoon fulls of pumpkin, I then mixed this together in the blender and put the mix in a bowl carved from a very large pumpkin. It was then time to get ready. Jaava decided to get dressed up as a ned

Jaavaaned

I (Unsurprisingly) decided to come as the "Big Bad Wolf" The outfit consisted of black clothes with lots of make up, a pair of pointy wolf ears and a long (Home made!) tail. AY helped my out to put my make up on and it turned out great and very celtish :)

Big bad iwolf64 and carbon dog!

Just before finishing my make up Jaavaa and his brother John arrived back after going to get food earlier (Not in the ned out fit!) John was the first of all the guests not to make any effort to turn up to a fancy dress party in fancy dress so he had the chance to dip into the blue bag of mystery I had prepared earlier to pull out a random piece of fancy dress.

John with catty ears!

As mentioned previously no one decided to wear fancy dress and the blue bag of mystery was soon depleted after Tam took the cat tail and Ctaan took the collar and immediately placed on Bagpuss_thecat.

Collared!

After the bag was empty I had to resort to using left over decorations, of which the fake spider web was the most popular.

Sarah and Arron

And also...

Sarah and Arron, again

Well, that was the 'Fancy dress' Samhuinn party, it didn't go quite the way I expected but it was still a good night.

Big bad iwolf64 and Carbon dog again :)

Sunday

Sunday was spent drinking beer and watching the Marx Brothers film Duck Soup! :)

Afterwards it was off to the goat with Tam, Jaavaaguru, Share_bear and Carbon the dog :) where I had a drink. Afterwards it was off to Bon Accord where I first of all had a pint of Orkney Dark ale which was lovely :) After spending a brief (Yet incredibly frustrating) ten minutes trying to get Ubuntu to recognize my Buffalo g54 wireless card using ndiswrapper (Again!), _gneil arrived followed about fifteen minutes later by Jaavaaguru. After a pint of Topsey Turvey and Lai Fail (Both of which are highly recommended ales!) we moved on, briefly checking out the likes of Driftwood and Nicos, neither of which had much happening, so we didn't stay for a drink, we eventually ended up at Rufus T's Where we had a drink before moving on to Walkabout to meet up with Cat and Kat before going on to the UGC to watch the film 'Serenity'.

Serenity

Serenity is the film version of the very short lived Sci-Fi flop Firefly that showed briefly (About 13 episodes) in 2002 on the sci-Fi channel. It is written, directed and produced by Joss Whedon (Buffy the vampire creator). Don't misunderstand everything I'm about to write here, the film was very watchable, it had a good script, was well directed and the acting (All be it a touch shaky at parts) was solid, unfortunatly the film fell flat on it's face, it seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. It seems to be trying to mix elements of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and several other top Sci Fi shows and movies and towards the end turns into a sci-fi version of buffy the vampire slayer. This unfortunately left the film feeling a little flat, uninspiring and un-original which is a shame. Fans of buffy will love this film no matter what however if you're looking for top of the line original sci-fi avoid this film, if you're after a bit of a laugh and are looking to sit back and not have to think about what you're watching too much then this is for you.

After The cinema _gneil, Jaavaa and I went to Frankenstein where I had a beer called Desperado (Which has Tequila in it!!! :) ) After that it was off to Bloc for one more beer before heading home. On the way we all felt the need for a Subway, so after stopping at the subway on Sauchiehall Street, where the staff were very friendly but there Manager looked like a total twat!

After that it was off home for a well deserved kip :)

A Solid Bloc of Monkey Accord affair!

After I completed my SQL project yesterday (See previous post re: SQL and random words) the days drinking was able to start when I was kindly handed a beer (Hair of the dog!) at 12:30ish

Later in the day promised a visit by Michelle and ScotMac at which point a brief panic in regards to the state of the flat occurred (It didn't really!).After the second beer however this panic disappeared :)

Dirty Flat :(

Shortly before Michelle and ScotMac arrived I had a wander out with the great Carbon the dog. We walked over to AY's who kindly agreed to watch him so Icould go out and get plastered.

ScotMac

I got home shortly after Michelle and ScotMac had turned up. Unfortunately ScotMac had a copy of the first two episodes of the new series of the OC on his mac so at Michelle's polite demands we watched them. To describe the OC as pointless would be a complement to it, the one bright spot was the always sexy Jerry Ryan :) Unfortunately there was a lack of lycra in this show! I am considering a letter of complaint to fox (Or who ever produces the OC) to demand that she is either fully naked or at worst wears some tight lycra.........er...... Anyway, what was I saying..... mmmmm Lycra :)
So after the OC (And watching ScotMac randomly tidy our flat) hunger had set in and it was time for the pub. It was decided that the best bet for a decent pint would be Bon Accord at Charring X

Two pints of Old Peculiar

After arriving at Bon accord the barman presented us with the awful news that they were no longer serving food, drinking on an empty stomach, all be it being a cheep night, is not fun, he did say that if we wanted we could go and get a takeaway from one of the indian restaurants round the corner and bring it in, at which point they would give us plates, knifes and forks etc. which was very decent of them.

So after a few sips of our old peculiar Jaavaaguru and I went for some food (Leaving ScotMac and Michelle in the pub not drinking!) After discovering that Cafe India are horribly over priced we found Panjea who were far more reasonably priced (And I'm willing to bet just as good) The restaurant was very well presented and the staffwere very friendly.

Michelle in Bon Accord

It did take a while for the food to be prepared, but quality does take time, so we were happy to wait, I had the YamYam with a cheese nan while Jaavaaguruhad the panjea platter for two and a plain nan all of which looked good.

We arrived back at the pub to find Michelle on her own, ScotMac had gone home for dinner (We knew he was going!). We then sat down and enjoyed the food and our now slightly warm ale, but it was still good!

Jaavaguru in Bon Accord

After moving to different seats we then acquired more ale, the next ale I got Deuchars while Jaavaa got Durham Magus we then spent some time taking silly photos of each other and beer before the band started. It wasn't strictly a band on, it was advertised as Helen Reeves, who is an australian blues singer song writer (Who doesn't appear to have her own web site) Although after briefly speaking to her I thought she was English.

We stayed in the pub with the intention of listening to some music, but after we'd finished our ales we'd only heard one song before she decided to take a break. The next ale on the agenda was Godiva which both myself and Jaavaa had.

iwolf64 and Michelle in Bon Accord

It wasn't long after getting more beer that Michelle decided to call it a night :( so before she left there was time for some more photos, at which point the band were playing again. Helen Reeves does have a good voice and the music she was playing was good, however some of the band were lacking something to make the performance really good (Talent!).

After Michelle went home Jaavaa and I decided to move on after our drinks, next stop... Solid Rock :)

Jaavaaguru and Michelle in Bon Accord

Solid Rock was jumping! Filled to the rafters with rockers and hot goth chicks :) After battling our way to the bar we got bottles of Stella, which tasted really weird compared to the real ale that was consumed earlier in the crawl. This was then followed by a journey to the underworld of Solid, the downstairs area, which still smells like dope! Upon ariving downstairs we were accosted by two very hot girls selling a bizarre cinnamon tasting shot called Jägermeister upon purchasing two we were presented with two flashy (As in they were flashing a red light!) badges which we wore with pride. We then stayed in Solid for a few beers more while enjoying the hot goth girls before moving on... Next stop Drum and Monkey.

Solid Rock

The Drum and Monkey is always a solid pub, good music, a laid back attitude and reasonable beer prices for the city center, I decided to be boring and have Deuchars again and Jaavaa had Batemans XB which was bland and tasteless. Other than that not much else happened in the Drum and Monkey.

By the time we'd finished our pints the bar staff had called last orders, so after learing at the hot barmaid with the big boobs, we decided to move on, initially with the intention of heading home, but on the was we wandered past Bloc...

The Drum and Monkey

I must admit this was my first trip to Bloc (Or at least the first I can remember at the time of writing this Blog!). We grabbed a couple of beers and managed to get a couple of seats in a great

area just over from the bar so we could see all the was around us :p A little time passed before anything really interesting happened, we got chatting to a French girl (Who Jaavaa successfully chatted up!) and another weird French guy (Is there any other kind?) who had some pretty funky dance moves... Well, okay, I'm being kind there... It was more of a cross between Michael Jackson and some one being electrocuted! So after some Asai it was time for home...

The Inside of Bloc

Well, that was my Saturday night thus concluding a three day bender that took in the Hilton (A blog that will be posted verysoon!) the west end and the city center Thank you for taking the time to read this and I'll see you in the pub real soon.

iwolf64 :)

SQL and random words!

Spent the morning writing a code to randomly select a word and definition from an SQL db for my home page.

Finally succeeded (see my home page for the result) :)

The night of 'Champions'

Last nights night of champions went off without a hitch. The festivities started off at 7 where we were lavished with champaigne and mango juice, which was nice, but got much better when the wonderful staff at the Hilton started to wander around with bottles of champaigne :) At 8 we were shepherded into the main dining area at which point the point of the night began properly. Unfortunately the team were split between two tables, despite initial suggestions we would all be together. I was also left with no one sitting beside me (I knew I should have worn deodorant!!).

Eva, Donna, Stacey, Claire M and Clare F

Before the main course we had a speech from Glenn King (aka Dr Evil according to Lynn Peacock!) this was followed by a promotional video on NAG followed by a speech from Lynn Peacock, after the speeches, there was a mad rush to the toilets! After every one arrived back the starter was served, an nice quiche (All be it too small!). After the starter we had the first round of awards. Most of the awards were given out for sales and customer excellence one of which was given to Carol Wilson who won an award for IB. Although I feel our team was robbed by not even getting nominated for team of the year!

Lisa, Clare D and Val

After the first round of awards had been and gone (And another exodus to the toilet had occurred) the main course was served. The Hilton offered two options a veggie option (Which I went for) and a non veggie option. The non-veggie option was a slab of Aberdeen Angus. Opinions on this varied some people found it a little tough but most of the opinion was good. The veggie option was a very nice pasta dish served with potato and veggies. Following the main course we had the second round of awards followed by the smokers running for the foyer for a fly smoke before pudding.

Stacey and Donna

Pudding was a very tasty cheese cake served with a raspberry sauce (Of which I managed to get two helpings!!!). This was followed by the final awards and a short closing speech before the bar was opened and the band came on. At this point I left!

Claire M and Eva

The band was a tribute band playing ABBA and other cheesy pop.
