Genetically-engineered corn, soybeans, and cotton now account for the majority of acres planted to these three crops. A model was developed that utilizes official, U.S. Department of Agriculture pesticide use data to estimate the differences in the average pounds of pesticides applied on GE crop acres, compared to acres planted to conventional, non-GE varieties.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The basic finding is that compared to pesticide use in the absence of GE crops, farmers applied 318 million more pounds of pesticides over the last 13 years as a result of planting GE seeds. This difference represents an average increase of about 0.25 pound for each acre planted to a GE trait.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;GE crops are pushing pesticide use upward at a rapidly accelerating pace. In 2008, GE crop acres required over 26% more pounds of pesticides per acre than acres planted to conventional varieties. The report projects that this trend will continue as a result of the rapid spread of glyphosate-resistant weeds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The full report is 69 pages, and is accessible below. The Executive Summary is posted separately (15 pages). The Supplemental Tables listed in the report's Table of Contents are also posted below. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.organic-center.org/reportfiles/13Years20091126_ExSumFrontMatter.pdf"&gt;Front Matter and "Executive Summary" (840 kbs, 14 pages)&lt;/a&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.organic-center.org/reportfiles/13Years20091126_FullReport.pdf"&gt;"Impacts of Genetically Engineered Crops on Pesticide Use: The First Thirteen Years" (2.9 MBs, 69 pages)&lt;/a&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.organic-center.org/reportfiles/SupplementalTablesv2.pdf"&gt;Supplemental Tables&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1690861532861249603-4769573822657917089?l=alohaanalytics.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/feeds/4769573822657917089/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=1690861532861249603&amp;postID=4769573822657917089' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/4769573822657917089'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/4769573822657917089'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/12/impacts-of-genetically-engineered-crops.html' title='Impacts of Genetically Engineered Crops on Pesticide Use'/><author><name>Brad Parsons</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/16759237357642699345</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='06603796649238442446'/></author><thr:total xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0'>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1690861532861249603.post-4991191509326037009</id><published>2009-12-04T08:16:00.000-08:00</published><updated>2009-12-04T08:22:48.348-08:00</updated><title type='text'>Meet Obama's climate 'experts'</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;From: &lt;a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;amp;pageId=117804"&gt;http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;amp;pageId=117804&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;Meet Obama's climate 'experts' &lt;!-- end head --&gt; &lt;!-- deck --&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;Socialists, conspiracy theorists, supporters of spreading wealth&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Palatino, Times New Roman, Georgia, Times, serif;"&gt;By Aaron Klein&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:-1;"&gt; December 02, 2009&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;p&gt;Amid an international climate-change scandal involving hacked e-mails just days before a major U.N. climate summit of world leaders, it is instructive to profile top White &lt;a id="KonaLink0" target="undefined" class="kLink" style="text-decoration: underline ! important; position: static;" href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;amp;pageId=117804#"&gt;&lt;span style="color: blue ! important; font-family: &amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,Georgia,Serif; font-weight: 400; font-size: 17px; position: static;color:blue;" &gt;&lt;span class="kLink" style="color: blue ! important; font-family: &amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,Georgia,Serif; font-weight: 400; font-size: 17px; position: static;"&gt;House&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; officials who are drafting President Obama's climate policy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some of the officials include known supporters of socialism who have advocated using environmental activism to spread America's wealth. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;'Climate czar' Carol Browner&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Carol Browner's official title is assistant to the president for energy and climate change. It was the birthplace of royal ali`i, as well as the political and spiritual center for Kaua`i Island. From the ahupua`a’s pinnacle at the summit of Wai`ale`ale moving makai toward the shore, a series of major heiau are integrated into the landscape of the “Great Sacred Wailua.” &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Oral histories and traditions detailed in our chants, ceremonies, religious and burial practices further confirm and maintain that the entire coastal ecosystem of sand dunes and beaches of the Wailua ahupua`a are known and documented burial grounds. Iwi küpuna, the bones of our ancestors were interned in these sands many, many generations before us. Known as, Mahunapu`uone, this place name clearly indicates its role in the life and death cycle of our küpuna as, “the sand dunes that conceal the bones.”&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;The Mayor has decided to forge ahead to construct the pedestrian/bike path on the sands of Mahunapu`uone at Wailua Beach – a decision that we strongly feel was uninformed and misguided. We need your support in establishing an ALTERNATE ROUTE by steering the pathway OFF OF THE BEACH and toward the mauka alignment BEHIND of Coco Palms.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Contrary to Path advocates’ claims that potential environmental, cultural and spiritual impacts have been addressed, THEY HAVE NOT. The path is only one of several development projects that are simultaneously occurring in Wailua. County, State and Federal authorities HAVE NOT COMPLIED with required laws and regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Environmental Assessment is flawed and inadequate for a region as culturally and historically significant as Wailuanuiaho`äno. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span&gt;Please join us in a unified appeal asking for an EIS (Environmental Impact Study). Computer hackers broke into the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England and downloaded thousands of e-mails and other documents. The CRU is one of the world's leading global warming data hubs, providing much of the number crunching to global policymakers on climate change. And, boy, can they crunch numbers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In a long string of embarrassing e-mail exchanges, CRU scientists discuss with friendly outside colleagues, including Penn State University's Michael Mann, how to manipulate the data they want to show the world, and how to hide the often flawed data they don't. In one exchange, they discuss the "trick" of how to "hide the decline" in global temperatures since the 1960s. Again and again, the researchers don't object to just inconvenient truths but also inconvenient truth-tellers. They contemplate and orchestrate efforts to purge scientists and journals who won't sing the same global warming hymnal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In one instance, Phil Jones, the CRU director, says a scientific journal must "rid (itself) of this troublesome editor," who happened to publish a problematic paper. In another, Jones says we "will keep them out somehow -- even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Muffling dissent&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These documents reveal the trick behind how they hide the dissent. Climate change activists often dismiss critics by noting that the skeptics haven't offered their arguments in peer-reviewed literature. Hence why they work so hard to keep dissenters out of the literature! Indeed, whatever the final verdict on the CRU's shenanigans, two things are already firmly established by even a sympathetic reading of these documents.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;First, the climate change industry is shot through with groupthink (or what climate scientist Judith Curry calls "climate tribalism"). Activists would have us believe that the overwhelming majority of "real" scientists agree with them while the few dissenters are all either crazed or greedy "deniers" akin to flat-earthers and creationists. These e-mails show that what's really at work is a very large clique of scientists is attempting to excommunicate perceived heretics for reasons that have more to do with psychology and sociology than physics or climatology.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Second, the climate industry really is an industry. Climate scientists make their money and careers from government, academia, the United Nations and foundations. The grantors want the grantees to confirm the global warming "consensus." The tenure and peer-review processes likewise hinge on conformity. That doesn't necessarily mean climate change is untrue, but it does mean sloppiness and bias are unavoidable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How big a scandal this is for the scientific community is being hotly debated on the Internet. But in big newspapers and TV news, the story has gotten less attention. And that's a scandal, too. The New York Times' leading climate reporter, Andrew Revkin (whose name appears in some of the e-mails), won't publish the contents of the e-mail on the grounds it would violate the scientists' privacy. Can anyone imagine the Times being so prissy if such damning e-mails were from ExxonMobil, never mind Dick Cheney?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Journalistic tribalism&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Indeed, the closer you look at the scandal the more you realize it's all one big outrage. The same journalistic tribalism that allowed Dan Rather to destroy his career over "Memogate" keeps reinforcing itself. Rather picked sources who said what he wanted to hear, then he reported what they said as if it were indisputable. The same thing is happening on climate change. Ideological bias is a major factor in the news media's work as a transmission belt for the climate industry. But part of the problem is also that the journalists do a bad job when the majority of "respected" experts agree on anything complicated. For instance, it was pretty impossible for reporters to independently investigate whether Saddam Hussein had WMDs, and since the most established authorities agreed he had to have them, the news media reported the consensus, which turned out to be wrong.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Likewise, most journalists aren't qualified or capable of working through the climate data. So they opt for the consensus. But there are important differences, too. While there's often reason for governments to hide classified intelligence, there's no reason for climate data to be classified. If the science is a slam dunk, why are CRU researchers keen on hiding their research? After the WMD fiasco, journalists agonized over their mistakes. Why no soul-searching over the CRU fiasco? Climate change hasn't been "debunked" by these documents. But the integrity of the "consensus" has been.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, keep in mind that the stakes are higher. In Copenhagen this month, the U.S. government will try to join the global bandwagon to spend trillions in fighting climate change. That money will not only enrich corporations, weaken U.S. sovereignty and hinder global growth, it will come out of funds that could be spent on fighting disease and poverty. Surely that's worth some journalistic skepticism?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jonah Goldberg, a member of &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;USA TODAY&lt;/span&gt;'s board of contributors, is editor at large of &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;National Review&lt;/span&gt; Online.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1690861532861249603-1826353975369482912?l=alohaanalytics.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/feeds/1826353975369482912/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=1690861532861249603&amp;postID=1826353975369482912' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/1826353975369482912'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/1826353975369482912'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/12/global-warming-groupthink.html' title='&quot;Global Warming&quot; Groupthink'/><author><name>Brad Parsons</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/16759237357642699345</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='06603796649238442446'/></author><thr:total xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0'>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1690861532861249603.post-6611797986190622625</id><published>2009-12-03T06:26:00.000-08:00</published><updated>2009-12-03T06:35:48.149-08:00</updated><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='intellectual dishonesty'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='bad science'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Big Pharma'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Climategate'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='same as drug research'/><title type='text'>The Significance of Climategate</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;From: &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/027620_ClimateGate_global_warming.html"&gt;http://www.naturalnews.com/027620_ClimateGate_global_warming.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h1 class="ecxHeadline"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;ClimateGate scandal demonstrates intellectual protectionism of modern scientists&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h1&gt; &lt;table width="100%"&gt;&lt;tbody&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td width="50%"&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.naturalnews.com/images/authors/MikeAdams.jpg" width="50" align="left" height="51" hspace="6" /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Monday, November 30, 2009&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;by Mike Adams, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Editor of NaturalNews.com&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;&lt;/tbody&gt;&lt;/table&gt;(NaturalNews) The inconvenient release of private email conversations among climate change scientists has been a boon for climate change skeptics. What emerges from the leaked emails is a depiction of a group of scientists who practice "intellectual protectionism" -- meaning &lt;i&gt;they know they're right&lt;/i&gt; and they'll do anything to protect their beliefs, even if it means hiding or manipulating data.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sound familiar? Scientists in the pharmaceutical industry have been practicing this for decades. If you think the ClimateGate emails are revealing, just imagine what kind of similar emails are flying around between Big Pharma scientists who routinely manipulate study data and commit &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/scientific_fraud.html" target="_blank"&gt;scientific fraud&lt;/a&gt; in the name of medicine. Time and time again, we see revelations of manipulated clinical trials where data was intentionally distorted in order to make a dangerous, useless drug appear to be safe and effective.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What ClimateGate scientists and Big Pharma scientists have in common is that &lt;b&gt;they have both abandoned the core principles of good science&lt;/b&gt; in their quest to be right. Rather than asking questions of &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/nature.html" target="_blank"&gt;nature&lt;/a&gt; and humbly listening to the answers provided by the data, these scientists have staked out a position and decided to defend that position at all costs -- even if it requires hiding or distorting data!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That approach is entirely unscientific, of course. In my mind, it now puts much of the recent &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/global_warming.html" target="_blank"&gt;global warming&lt;/a&gt; science in the same category as Big Pharma's research: Pure &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/quackery.html" target="_blank"&gt;quackery&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As Christopher Booker explains in &lt;i&gt;The Telegraph&lt;/i&gt;, "The reason why even the Guardian's George Monbiot has expressed total shock and dismay at the picture revealed by the documents is that their authors are not just any old bunch of academics. Their importance cannot be overestimated. What we are looking at here is the small group of scientists who have for years been more influential in driving the worldwide alarm over global warming than any others, not least through the role they play at the heart of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)." (&lt;a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/6679082/Climate-change-this-is-the-worst-scientific-scandal-of-our-generation.html" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/...&lt;/a&gt;)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;h1&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;Claiming to save the planet is no excuse for scientific fraud&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;Global warming may, indeed, be a real phenomenon. But trying to "prove" it by conspiring to manipulate the data in order to be right is absolutely the wrong way to go about studying the issue. In fact, these ClimateGate revelations have soundly discredited much of the global warming &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/scientific_community.html" target="_blank"&gt;scientific community&lt;/a&gt; to the point where whatever these people say from now on simply cannot be trusted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And that's a shame because the question remains: What if the global warming scientists are really right? What if they're right for all the wrong reasons, and they let their egos and their professional pride get in the way of conducting real science, thereby discrediting the very notion they were attempting to prove? That's a possibility we would still do well to consider.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yet, from their released emails, it's quite clear these scientists were manipulating data to make the "science" fit their &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/beliefs.html" target="_blank"&gt;beliefs&lt;/a&gt;. They weren't focused solely on the real facts; they were interested in forwarding their &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/climate_change.html" target="_blank"&gt;climate change&lt;/a&gt; theories using any means necessary -- including scientific trickery.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What's truly sad about all this -- both in the climate change &lt;a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/community.html" target="_blank"&gt;community&lt;/a&gt; and the pharmaceutical community -- is that &lt;b&gt;real science has seemingly been replaced by pseudoscientific quackery&lt;/b&gt;. I've known for a long time that you can't trust scientists who work for pharmaceutical companies because they tend to distort their findings to support their employer. Now learning that a similar approach to junk science was apparently pursued by climate change scientists is more than a little disconcerting. It makes me wonder: Are there any honest scientists left anywhere?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h1&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;The structure of scientific revolutions&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;It seems that &lt;b&gt;in all realms of science, egos are more important than observational data&lt;/b&gt;. Whether you're dealing with astronomy, oceanography, anthropology or biology, &lt;i&gt;every scientist wants to be right&lt;/i&gt;, and most will do whatever it takes to defend their proclaimed theories and beliefs. This is why it remains so ridiculously difficult to penetrate the minds of modern doctors with facts about vitamin D and cancer, for example: These "scientific thinkers" have already decided what to believe, and they'll defend those beliefs at all costs, even in the face of strong evidence that contradicts their beliefs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I've come to realize in all this is that &lt;b&gt;many of today's scientists aren't scientific thinkers&lt;/b&gt;. They're really just followers of their own private cult. Some "scientists" belong to the Cult of Pharmacology, and they believe pharmaceuticals are the answer to everything. Others belong to the Cult of Climatology, where scientific evidence is replaced with "faith" beliefs that are not allowed to be questioned. These micro-cults of scientific "truth" explain why science usually doesn't advance until a whole generation of scientists either retires or expires.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It all brings us back to the amazing book, &lt;i&gt;The Structure of Scientific Revolutions&lt;/i&gt;. As this book explains, science almost never advances based entirely on new research, new ideas and new data. Instead, these new understandings collide with &lt;i&gt;a wall of ego-driven resistance&lt;/i&gt; from the established scientific community. At times, such new ideas may linger for decades or even centuries before finally being seriously considered by the scientific community and then adopted as "truth." The classic example of this is the "Earth is the center of the universe" belief that was eventually replaced with the current sun-centric solar system model -- but not before many scientific thinkers were condemned (and even put to death) for their "preposterous" belief that the Earth was not the center of the universe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In reality, modern science advances much like vomit -- in sudden wretched heaves that are both painful and revealing. The modern scientist is far more interested in being right than in being humbly informed about the mysteries of nature, and this makes much of so-called science more of a laughing matter than anything to be taken seriously. There are, no doubt, many very good scientists operating today who truly take to heart the Scientific Method and who avoid entangling their egos in their work, but I'm coming to discover that the number of such scientists may be far smaller than I had hoped.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In my mind, all of this further discredits the very idea that science is a reliable pathway to knowledge. There are many ways to glean knowledge about the world around us, and science is only one of them. Other methods included meditation, "communing" with nature, spiritual study or even embarking on spirit journeys with the help of plant medicines. Western science has given us much in terms of practical discoveries in fields like electricity, chemistry and physics, but it has utterly failed to provide us with answers on the things that really count: What is the meaning of life? What is the nature of human consciousness? What is the human soul?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;None of these questions, it seems, will ever be answered by an ego-driven, profit-focused scientific community that would rather be right than enlightened.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h1&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;Three questions we need to be asking&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;In order to know what's truly happening with human-caused climate change, we need to get accurate answers to the following three questions:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Question #1)&lt;/b&gt; Are CO2 emissions on the rise? And by how much? (The answer to this is clearly yes. This part isn't being debated.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Question #2)&lt;/b&gt; Will high CO2 levels in the atmosphere cause global warming? If so, what will be the climate effects at different CO2 levels? (This is the part being debated.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Question #3)&lt;/b&gt; What can we do to prevent devastating climate change from occurring? (This is also being heavily debated.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In my mind, there's no question that &lt;i&gt;what we dump into the air affects the climate in some way&lt;/i&gt;, but as I'm not a climate scientist, I must rely on others to determine what levels of carbon dioxide are correlated with observable climate effects (such as a change in atmospheric temperature or lack thereof). What I've learned from the ClimateGate scandal is that &lt;b&gt;I really can't trust these scientists to tell the truth&lt;/b&gt; about their findings, and that leaves me in a position of having more questions than ever before.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It won't change my behavior, though. I'll still engage in recycling. I'll continue with my plans to install solar panels to power my house. I'll keep planting trees and growing most of my own food locally. Regardless of who's right about ClimateGate, &lt;i&gt;we all have a responsibility to reduce our footprint on this planet&lt;/i&gt;, or we may someday discover some other environmental tsunami rising up to haunt us in ways we may have never imagined.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The ClimateGate scientists may have made complete fools of themselves, but I believe we must still practice ecologically-sound "green living" in our own way, each and every day, to the best of our abilities. In other words, don't let the egos of a small group of scientists distract you from the very real need to protect the future of life on our planet. Reduce your own environmental footprint in ways that you can. Conserve and protect what we have on this planet, and we may yet have a planet left for our children a few generations down the line.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Remember: Just because these scientists manipulated the data doesn't mean we all have free license to endlessly pollute the planet. If these scientists really were hiding data indicating global warming isn't as bad as we thought, that would only be a blessing because it would mean we have more time than we thought to reduce the eco-footprint of human life on Earth (hopefully without invoking nefarious Big Brother population control measures...)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It will be fascinating to see how this story develops. We'll continue to cover it here on NaturalNews.com.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Sources for this story include&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.smh.com.au/world/university-does-uturn-on-scientists-disputed-statistics-20091129-jyw2.html" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.smh.com.au/world/univers...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/11/28/as-copenhagen-summit-nears-climategate-dogs-global-warming-debate/" target="_blank"&gt;http://features.csmonitor.com/polit...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.greenleft.org.au/2009/820/42157" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.greenleft.org.au/2009/82...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.prisonplanet.com/climategate-the-silence-is-deafening-from-the-corporate-media.html" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.prisonplanet.com/climate...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/24/taking_liberties/entry5761180.shtml" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/1...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/6679082/Climate-change-this-is-the-worst-scientific-scandal-of-our-generation.html" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/...&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1690861532861249603-6611797986190622625?l=alohaanalytics.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/feeds/6611797986190622625/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=1690861532861249603&amp;postID=6611797986190622625' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/6611797986190622625'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/6611797986190622625'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/12/significance-of-climategate.html' title='The Significance of Climategate'/><author><name>Brad Parsons</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/16759237357642699345</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='06603796649238442446'/></author><thr:total xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0'>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1690861532861249603.post-6274523743331567767</id><published>2009-11-29T01:25:00.000-08:00</published><updated>2009-11-29T01:43:27.207-08:00</updated><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='&quot;Tara&quot;'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='$28 million'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Barbara Sloan'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Lolouila'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Kaua&apos;i'/><title type='text'>Nicely done webpages...</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="UIMediaItem"&gt;&lt;div class="share_media"&gt;&lt;div class="swfvideo"&gt;&lt;div class="extra"&gt;&lt;div id="so_206548059318_4b123989706153dc8ced0_holder" class="video_extra"&gt;&lt;a onclick="so_206548059318_4b123989706153dc8ced0.write('so_206548059318_4b123989706153dc8ced0_holder');share_play_video('206548059318', 'so_206548059318_4b123989706153dc8ced0');CSS.addClass($(&amp;quot;div_story_1705946124_206548059318&amp;quot;), &amp;quot;UIStory_Open&amp;quot;);;return false;" class="video_extra_anchor" title="Click to play video"&gt;&lt;div class="video_thumb"&gt;&lt;span class="thumb"&gt;&lt;img src="http://external.ak.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=e1d7897dbf8067fff777e3a375d5a4ed&amp;amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FoYiOpyEQ4WU%2F2.jpg&amp;amp;w=90&amp;amp;h=90" alt="" width="90" /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="UIStoryAttachment" ft="{&amp;quot;type&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;attach&amp;quot;}"&gt;&lt;div class="UIStoryAttachment_Info"&gt;&lt;div class="UIStoryAttachment_Title"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.youtube.com%252Fwatch%253Fv%253DoYiOpyEQ4WU&amp;amp;h=08473248b7f539930313b59de550ac63&amp;amp;ref=mf" target="_blank" onclick="'ft("&gt;Papa'a Bay Luxury Estate Presented by Unique Kauai Estates&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="UIStoryAttachment_Caption"&gt;www.youtube.com&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="UIImageBlock clearfix"&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Barbara Sloan and Unique Global Estates presents this incredible Kauai home located on Papa'a Bay.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold; The only post I had was from August 12, 2009, with a link to here: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://waterdata.usgs.gov/hi/nwis/uv?dd_cd=02&amp;amp;format=gif&amp;amp;period=7&amp;amp;site_no=16103000"&gt;http://waterdata.usgs.gov/hi/nwis/uv?dd_cd=02&amp;amp;format=gif&amp;amp;period=7&amp;amp;site_no=16103000&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;The bridge is closed and has not been opened yet, as of 11 pm 11/14/09 and it won't be any time soon. The whole valley up to the edge of town is flooded including the road. I'll be surprised if it opens tomorrow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now normally that gage would be helpful, except that after the river rose 8 feet from 4 feet to 12 feet today, the gage went kaput. Here is a picture of that:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Xba64hD3sfg/Sv_DDc6ZipI/AAAAAAAAAtg/FySO-MoGPd0/s1600-h/Hanaleiriver11-14-09.gif"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 297px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Xba64hD3sfg/Sv_DDc6ZipI/AAAAAAAAAtg/FySO-MoGPd0/s400/Hanaleiriver11-14-09.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404252541936044690" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So here is another good link to go to for news updates when the bridge will be opened and for closures in the future: &lt;a href="http://www.kauai.gov/"&gt;http://www.kauai.gov/&lt;/a&gt; On the right side of that webpage are "Headlines." Scroll down that and there will be the updates for Hanalei Bridge Closures and Openings. Here is the most recent update:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong style="font-style: italic; font-weight: normal;"&gt;11/14/2009 9:45:09 AM - &lt;a href="http://www.kauai.gov/Kamaaina/PressReleases/tabid/346/Default.aspx"&gt;Hanalei Bridge Closed 14 November 2009&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; - &lt;/span&gt;&lt;i style="font-style: italic;"&gt;News Release&lt;br /&gt;For Immediate Release: November 14, 2009&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hanalei Bridge closed - 9:05 am&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;HANALEI – Kauai police have closed the Hanalei Bridge this morning, and will reopen it when the bridge is deemed safe for passage.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Updated information regarding the bridge closure will be sent to the media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;####&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Or just listen to KONG radio. As soon as the police open it, KONG will broadcast it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It has not been opened yet, as of 11 pm 11/14/09 and it won't be any time soon. The whole valley up to the edge of town is flooded including the road. I'll be surprised if it opens tomorrow. Here are a couple videos of what it looks like: &lt;a href="http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/11/video-hanalei-valley-flooded-111409.html"&gt;http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/11/video-hanalei-valley-flooded-111409.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1690861532861249603-6560160209046726719?l=alohaanalytics.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/feeds/6560160209046726719/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=1690861532861249603&amp;postID=6560160209046726719' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/6560160209046726719'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/1690861532861249603/posts/default/6560160209046726719'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://alohaanalytics.blogspot.com/2009/11/hanalei-bridge-closure300-hits-today.html' title='Hanalei Bridge Closure...300+ hits today'/><author><name>Brad Parsons</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/16759237357642699345</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='06603796649238442446'/></author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media='http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/' url='http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Xba64hD3sfg/Sv_DDc6ZipI/AAAAAAAAAtg/FySO-MoGPd0/s72-c/Hanaleiriver11-14-09.gif' height='72' width='72'/><thr:total xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0'>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1690861532861249603.post-1939838251851374406</id><published>2009-11-14T22:50:00.000-08:00</published><updated>2009-11-14T23:11:36.240-08:00</updated><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Wailua'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='weather'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Hawaiian Gods weigh in'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='The Path on Wailua Beach'/><category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Hanalei'/><title type='text'>The Weather, Wailua, and the Gods</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;From a taro (kalo) farmer&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt; in Hanalei today:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:monospace;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;My garden is in ankle deep water, the raised beds are flat.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-family:monospace;" &gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;The taro is surviving. I may have to resort to eating from trees or move to&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-family:monospace;" &gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;higher grounds. Of course, for now, this is the thinking. When all dries up, we may &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-family:monospace;" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Georgia,serif;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;continue as before. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;But as climate change is inevitable and mother earth&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-family:monospace;" &gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Georgia,serif;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;will do her cleansing, we must make peace and figure out what we will do.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-family:monospace;" &gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Stay warm and dry. The kapuna seem to be making a statement to all those who are trashing Kauai in response to Kehau's momentous all night vigil last night to sanctify Wailua and its sacred he'eau. Might be a good idea for those developers to either reconsider their thoughts and actions or hide somewhere safe.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Went back at 11 AM to the all night vigil at Wailua for the closing ceremonies (see above paragraph) and found that &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;in that little spot where they had been chanting and praying for 24 hours, it had been deadly still, with no rain, while everywhere else on the Island it had been pouring. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;At 12 Noon for the closing ceremony which lasted about an hour, the sky opened up; streaks of lightning into the ocean and the mountains all around , deafening thunder&lt;/span&gt; and a billion teacups of rain from the heavens signaling the end of the vigil. Everyone stood through it, dripping and welcoming the blessing. Hanalei Town got 12 inches of rain in 24 hours and it is still raining there.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;DD&lt;/span&gt;&lt;div
