Rushberry Coming to Town

A new trendy yogurt shop "Rushberry" is opening at The Reserve Plaza across from The Oaks according to this article.

This month, both West Palm Beach and suburban Boca Raton will get their own taste. This summer Fusiyo opened with a walk-up counter at the food court at the Mall at Wellington Green, a test store for the Los Angeles-based firm.

IceBerry is set to open a shop in CityPlace late this month, said IceBerry U.S. vice president and co-owner Bruce Chong.

Also this month, Rushberry is scheduled to open at The Reserve, a shopping center at U.S. 441 and Clint Moore Road, said owner Aime Paronyan, 26, who founded the company in May.

The Regent Bal Harbour's posh 1 Bleu restaurant invited guests to fall down the rabbit's hole for a good cause at the Mad Hatters Tea Party Friday afternoon. Miami socialites donned their most elaborate and striking headgear and gathered at the glossy new hotel for a benefit to raise money for Dress for Success, an organization that promotes economic independence for disadvantaged men and women.

Event goers decked out in Alice in Wonderland chic were seated in the restaurant's waterfront dining room featuring floor-to-ceiling ocean views. A delectable menu of tea time delicacies pleased both savory and sweet palates. Each table was adorned with three-tiered trays of tea sandwiches including classic egg salad; cucumber with chive scented cream cheese, black current tea smoked chicken salad and the creative goat cheese and mascarpone fig and honey. Freshly baked scones were abundant with fixings like lemon curd and jam for a Buckingham-influenced experience. Four different types of tea were available including an organic chamomile, floral jasmine and imperial earl gray. A coloful dessert table tempted event goers with chcocolate-covered strawberries, French macaroons, coconut cupcakes and fruit tarts.

Raffle prizes included gift certificates to the Regent's Guerlain Spa, the Doral Golf Resort spa and dinner at 1 Bleu. As the be-hatted women filed out of the sun-filled dining room they received gift bags with make-up samples from Bobbi Brown cosmetics.

Food enthusiasts, wine lovers and epicureans flocked to Palm Beach for the StarChefs.com Rising Stars gala honoring fifteen culinary celebrities from acclaimed restaurants in Florida. The "rising stars" included chefs but also beverage specialists like top sommeliers and mixologists working in the food industry. Honorees included Michael Bloise of Wish, Azul's Clay Conley, Johnny V's pastry goddess Malka Espinel, sommelier Roberto Colombi of Cielo (in Boca Raton), and Cafe Boulud mixologist Ame Brewster. Each chef and sommelier was given a station where they cooked and served eclectic dishes that highlighted their culinary prowess. From foie gras to coconut tapioca, it was quite a tasting odyssey.

The opulent Trump International Club House in West Palm Beach was the setting for this gastronomic soirree with a spacious ballroom and tent serving as event space on a cool breezy evening. The main event included all fifteen chef stations in additon to a grand cocktail where cocktails using ingredients like St. Germaine elderflower liquor and artisinal waters were served. Dishes included chef Alberto Cabrera's pan seared flounder with cured beef cannelloni and Angle restaurant's David Mullen's hamachi with apple gelee. Below is Mar-A-Lago's Jeff O'Neil's magnificent banana brulee and next to it a slice of frozen black plum tomato with yuzu emulsion, micro coriander and chili oil powder. In general there were lots of foams, gelees, emulsions and powders employed by most of the chefs. Despite the back-to-the-basics trend we've been seeing in locavore dining circles, there's still a desire to go molecular. Or at least, those who go molecular seem to get recognition for doing so.

Jeffrey Brana was serving up cheesy goodness in the form of a Wisconsin Pleasant Ridge reserve cheese with pear, arugula and truffle.

Malka Espinel presented a three berry pot pie and a Spanish parfait with layers of cinnamon cake, rhubarb compote and flan mousse topped with churro.

Kurtis Jantz from Neomi at Trump Sonesta presented a salmon with seared onigiri, fermented soy, enoki mushrooms, and pea tendrils. Japanese Dashi broth was then poured on each plate cooking the salmon, dissolving the soy powder and creating something delicate and delicious.

With the recent opening of Kobe Club Miami (adding to Tuscan Steak, Social and Blue Door), the restaurant guru is on a mission to feed the hip and hungry in the sunshine state. Everything is sized for sharing, and no one goes hungry though chopstick fights have been known to break out over the spicy beef and scallion dumplings and the crackling calamari salad with lime miso dressing. Fusion classics like the sake marinated “drunken” chicken in ponzu sauce, lobster pancakes and tempura sashimi keep the menu firmly grounded in upscale Asian territory.
The interior mirrors glorious Florida sunsets with reds, oranges and yellow tones while a central expo kitchen and illuminated resin tables and bars give the space a futuristic Jetsons-esque vibe. A waterfront terrace keeps takes advantage of the salty city's fab boat watching. If the Ft. Lauderdale eatery proves to be anything like the China Grills in NYC and Miami, expect to jockey for tables with Armani-clad expense accounters, celebs and the occasional hotel heiress.

Fashion designer Elie Tahari celebrated the opening of his new Boca Raton boutique with an in-store cocktail party for more than 300.
Fashion enthusiasts, Boca Raton Museum of Art members, and other guests from the community flocked to the Boca Raton Town Center for the opening of the newest Elie Tahari boutique. Cohosted by the museum and the designer himself, the event celebrated the first boutique to use the dramatic design elements originally conceived for the East Hampton store, including a floating shelf system.

Wycliffe Getting Face Lift for Younger Crowd Appeal
If you saw the destruction that took place recently at theWycliffe Golf and Country Club's clubhouse, you might have thought Hurricane Dean made a detour north.

But the club members are gleeful about the demolition that marks the beginning of renovation at their 25,000-square-foot clubhouse area.The project's two biggies are the spa and the addition of a second dining area. And both mark a trend in the gated community off LakeWorth Road - residents are getting younger, said Michael Fish, president of Wycliffe Golf and Country Club.

"There are more and more young people moving into the club. They don't particularly like to get dressed up like most of the older people do," he said.

The clubhouse renovations follows a total renovation of the club's west golf course and the replanting of tees and greens on the east course. Members are spending a total of $22 million on their community. The renovation comes just two years after the developer turned over Wycliffe's 1,045-home community to resident control.

The developer actually allowed members to create a board before turnover, Fish said. "We were able to create a long-range plan," he said.

To accommodate the new, more casual dining space they're calling the Grill Room, they tore down a cabana that held about 75 people. The Grill Room will seat nearly 300 inside and out. It will be a place where members can go for a casual bite, and it will be open long enough for golfers with later tee times to get food afterward, Fish said.

The new fitness center with be four times as large as the old one, he said. The card rooms and conference spaces also will be expanded.

The Association of Israel's Decorative Arts (AIDA), and the Armory Art Center are partnering to bring South Florida a month of Israeli art through artist workshops and exhibitions.
March 14-16 Nirit Dekel - Glass Beadmaking using Lampworking Techniques. Cost $600
During this three-day workshop students will learn the basics of lampworking with a focus on technique, form and color. Nirit will teach various techniques, including: forming round, bicon and tubular shapes, applying metal foils and frit, creating multicolored cane twist, and surface treatments such as raking and dot overlays.
