Sherk's Attorney Formally Protests Hearing Date

Howard Jacobs, the attorney representing UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk in his appeal of a California State Athletic Commission suspension for suspected steroid use, has formally protested the latest scheduled hearing date of Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Los Angeles. Sherk's case has already been postponed twice.

Jacobs said all parties involved, including commissioners and the state's legal counsel – Deputy Attorney General Karen Chappelle – had agreed to reconvene for a Nov. 13 hearing, provided they could secure a room in which to conduct it.

"I seemingly can't force them to give me an explanation as to why the deputy attorney general suddenly became unavailable [for Nov. 13] when she said she was available," Jacobs said. "I can't get them to explain to me why there's no one in the entire State Attorney General's office who can handle the case or why – if there was another matter that came up for Karen Chappelle – she can't postpone that matter, because she already agreed to this one. I've asked for answers to all those questions, and I haven't been told anything."

Hi everyone. This week I'm going to focus this whole thing on talking to Rashad directly, after his hilarious and slightly puzzling blog on UFC.com two days ago. Enjoy!

Rashad, I'm glad you've got an English guy in camp so he can tell you what I mean when I say your last blog was complete bollocks.

At the risk of taking it to the "He said, she said" level - you threw the first rotten egg, mate. You did the video on UFC.com blasting me as a fighter and insinuating you shouldn't even have to fight me. Then your blog on Wednesday went completely over the top, making this fight a little personal when it is really about two undefeated fighters trying to move up the division.

I extended you nothing but respect, all I did was predict a win for myself and did a few one-liners about a knockout (it is called selling a fight, Rashad) which I even added the smiley face ;-) to make sure everyone knew it was just "fighting hype talk" and not to be taken seriously.

But thanks for giving me a look inside your head with your little rant. It was very interesting indeed, not to mention laugh out loud funny in places. I don't know if Joe Rogan is looking for an opening act for his comedy gigs, but your blog is a hell of an audition piece if he is.

You kept on about all these disrespectful things I'd said, but he never once gave an example. And such big fighting words from such a short man, Rashad! Very funny.

Showtime Announcers Discuss EliteXC's Coming BIG Event

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 8, 2007) – EliteXC, the world's fastest-growing mixed martial arts (MMA) promotional company, will conclude its inaugural year with an explosive five-fight telecast THIS SATURDAY, Nov. 10, live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from The American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Kimbo Slice (a.k.a. Kevin Ferguson)--an Internet-spawned street fighting legend--will make his highly anticipated professional debut against veteran Bo Cantrell. The featured fight of the night will be an EliteXC Lightweight Championship scrap between Nick Diaz of Stockton, Calif., and K.J. Noons of San Francisco, for the vacant title.

Renowned play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo will call the action from ringside with "The Fight Professor" Stephen Quadros and world wresting superstar Bill Goldberg serving as color analysts. The executive producer of the telecast is David Dinkins, Jr., with Bob Dunphy directing.

Ranallo, Quadros and Goldberg weighed in with their take on this Saturday's event.

Nick Diaz: MMA's Pro Weed Warrior

It was a brilliant performance by Stockton, California's Nick Diaz (15-6) as he routed the highly regarded Japanese MMA star Takanori Gomi at Pride 33 in February. The huge upset would send notice to the Mixed Martial Arts community that Diaz was back in a big way.

Unfortunately for the (Cesar Gracie) Jiu-Jitsu black belt and professional boxer, the win would later be declared a no-contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after their tests revealed a high level of marijuana in his system.

"I feel it was done out of ignorance. The win was taken away from me because I smoke weed and that's stupid," said the 24-year old Diaz. "I'm a fighter and a martial artist. I feel martial artists and all artists in general could benefit from smoking weed and we should be able to smoke it all we want."

Diaz has proven himself in the past by impressively knocking out Robbie Lawler and most recently besting Josh Neer, Mike Aina and the aforementioned Gomi.

"I already know that I'm the best fighter in the world on a technical level. It's fine that they took the Gomi win away from me. *^*^ them!" Diaz said. "I know that I won. It's only going to make me strive harder to be the best."
