This historic bed and breakfast made its way from a dairy farm in the 1860's, to a horse farm in the 1970's, to a charming B&B in the 1990's, now delighting overnight guests and dining patrons as well as creating memories for the bride and grooms celebrating their marriages here.Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.comBlogger13125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-5519486377253984772009-07-07T11:08:00.004-05:002009-07-07T11:44:28.909-05:00July at InntiquityWe had a hot July in Indiana, requiring many waterings of our gardens. George had me put mulch on my vegetable gardens. Not successful. No weeds, but the pepper plants died. I have removed the mulch from 1 bed and am replanting with Miracle Grow. Hope there is enough time for them to grow. We use many peppers in our cooking even though we do not call them mangos as did our ancestors.
Several of our holiday guests were old friends returning to assist relatives and share the holiday. Others were interesting and shared stories of their families and experiences . One delightful couple were newlyweds. Others shared anniversaries. Our Celtic musicians entertained during the dinner hours. Good food, interesting guests and music!
Our partners in hosting were the Crooked Creek stables with good old Indiana horsemen to address any riding issues, France Park, with its waterfall, swimmuig area and great sites to take our famous picnic. There are also walking and biking trails along 2 banks of the rivers. One trail has a labyrinth. So far we have not had anyone reported lost.
Indiana Beach is just 22 miles away. May exciting things to do there. Rides, interesting foods, music and carnival atmosphere. Also swimming and boating is available. I spent many a summer evenings , in my younger days and some older days dancing to the famous bands playing there.

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-6424887493382031572009-05-05T06:14:00.004-05:002009-05-05T06:53:18.338-05:00May Goals and ExperiencesHow beatuiful Indiana is in the spring! I've lived here all my life and still am excited and amazed each spring. We are hoping our photographer is still coming. Her pictures are so wonderful on another inn's website. We are planning to use the new pictures to help to update our wedsite. Her coming has inspired George to new heights for our outside landscaping.
Leslie has planted her leeks and I my lettuce. I am holding off on the herbs. Indiana's spring weather is not to be trusted. Leslie and I are joining forces to have a totally organic local menu. Her Mother's Day menu is a blend of old family recipes, old local recipes from churches, local feed and implement companies and her Charleston chef school. Hopefully there is something for all our guests.
April was so enjoyable. We had a wonderful repeating trio from Florida who are like old friends, another couple that always spends their anninersary with us, and 4 other couples that were delightful just to talk to. We feel privleged to share a small part of their lives. Several couples are trying to experience each different suite. We have acquired several anniversary cards to show our appreciation.
Logansport is having a jazz festival featuring our local artist, Med Flory,An Indian powpow, an arts festival and several base ball tournaments. Many enjoy our beautiful diverse parks and trails plus the activities along our 2 rivers. If peace and quiet along with small town activites does't frighten you Logansport countryside is for you. Leslie searches out family favorites such as Carrot Cake, Wild Berry cobblers, Spinach soufle, Baked ham with orange sauce, Leg of lamb with basil and lemon juice basting, 3 kinds of deviled eggs, Sausage Sun Dried Tomato Egg Bake, 3 kinds of salads, Salmon poached in white wine, Vegetarian lasagna, Fresh asparagus in lemon butter, Wild Rice Pilaf, Mashed potatoes with chives and sour cream, Fresh baked Rolls and Ice tea , Lemonade and coffee. I was drafted to make the Cole slaw, but we used an old cobbler ctust that relieved me of pie crust duty.
We enjoy seeing members of our community that normally we don't encounter. The weather is promising to be lovely. We want to show off our daffodils that line the drive so beautifully. Some of our tulips are showing off as well. George is replacing one of our magnolias and some of our spring blooming trees that did not survive our heavy frosts.
Wonderful odors are floating in from the kitchen. I must check to see if the cats have been fed as it is still pretty cold outside. I may have to help set up tomorrow's buffet. Happy Easter for all of you.

The Staff at Inntiquity Inn and Restaurant

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-77166520523305576482009-03-26T08:03:00.000-05:002009-03-26T08:03:55.756-05:00CELTIC MUSIC & BIRDWATCHINGWhat a wonderful weekend! Our musicians filled the inn with music. Innovations and old favorites. The restaurant was busy with both, musician's meals and a funeral dinner. Many of the musicians were creative in other ways. One had written a travel book, others shared their beautiful quilts. All were very complimentary about our food.
The bird watchers had extensive information about the bird's that pass through Indiana on their return to the north after their wintering in Indiana. They have envited George and I to join them on a Bird watching trip to West Virginia. It sounds exciting. Our business obligations will have to decide for us.
Leslie is preparing another mystery weekend. Several people are interested in these fun experiences. The hold up seems to be that most of the mysteries require at least 10 people. We need to put together all the different mystery lovers so they can come together.
I have finally found the creamed coconut that her faboulous pie requires. The chocolate crust really is the final resistance breaker!

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-5543996277249378082009-03-05T06:54:00.003-06:002009-03-05T07:20:55.369-06:00Valentine SurvivalThe lovers were out in force this Valentine's Day. Hail romance! Our record of accepted proposals is still intact. As of today our record is safe. We know that one day someone will refuse. The lovely young lady said" yes." Our dining rooms were completely full, with all the champagne buckets ,flowers, candlelabras, place plates, silver and stemware. Leslie had a new prep cook, so wasn't as fast as usual. I did not think to check if all our extra servers had a liscense to carry alcohol. As they were not pouring, I did not realize they still needed a liscence. We were upset that people did not receive very prompt service. Most were understanding as Leslie's food helped makeup for it.. We had a very detailed review to make sure we do not repeat our mistakes.
All our suites were full on Saturday , and most on Friday and Sunday. As usual our guests were wonderful at breakfast. We never tire of hearing about there lives and wonderful stories. Some are repeat guests and some are new to bed and breakfast inns. We try very hard to make their experience memorable to ensure they will keep giving B & Bs their choice for romance and comfort. We have had football guests, wedding guests, get-away guests and business travelers, even trick or treaters. All were generous with their praise for our food beds and hospitality. What a great Group. Leslie is all excited about our mystery week end coming up on the 23rd. We are going to be in the Roaring Twenties!
We just posted our Thanksgiving Special on our website. We have fun using Indiana' s great traditional foods. We have inherited family recipes from both George's and my Families. Our brunch uses most of them paired with our most popular brunch special favorites. George is always drafted to slice both the hugh hams and turkeys.. I always make my families pies and noodles ( the only ones Leslie can't top me on) ha! Oyster dressing is one I help with as it is one of my favorites.
Every year we get to see many local families. The children are so cute, minding their manners and reassuring me that parents are still passing on our traditions and values. We just need to get all our dining rooms and food ready. Let the wonderful Thanksgiving praise and odors free.
Lee, Innkeeper, Inntiquity

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-76180467520775911012008-09-14T14:34:00.002-05:002008-09-14T15:12:47.988-05:00Lucky LoversInntiquity has had many lovers in the 20 plus years we have been an inn. Some are returning for anniversaries, some bring their children, many have our romantic candlelight champagne dinner. Our most outstanding statistic is the success rate of the marriage proposals. So far 23 prosposals , that we know of , have been accepted here. Most by men, but we know of 2 by women. Of course our record will eventually be broken or else we have not found out about any refusals. Be that as it may, we are honored to have our efforts toward providing a romantic atmosphere rewarded. Innkeeping is hard work, but the wonderful guests make up for it by allowing us to have a small part in so many lives.

From the beautiful brides climbing up the stairs in their wedding gowns, to the ones getting married in our gazebo, we have yet to see one that is not especially beauriful on their day. Our restaurant has hosted groups of retiring nuns, rehersal dinners, receptions of many kinds, showers, teas, funeral dinners and seminars. All of these events gives George the opportunity to utilize the many silver serving pieces's from his family and our antique collections. Many weddings have been held here. Our gardens have been especially lovely after a cold start.

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-33079244462008983422008-07-23T09:05:00.004-05:002008-07-23T09:19:33.334-05:00Experiences at Inntiquity, A Country InnGeorge has finally completed the bridge over one of our ponds. The problem was finding a bridge design that would hold large groups. He finally bought a steel semi bed. It looks great now that he has added a floor and a white railing. The other project was to replace the dining room floor at the house(not the inn). We lost several rooms due to a roofing fiasco.

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-19661563506921962602008-04-15T08:59:00.002-05:002008-04-15T09:30:14.417-05:00Spring in IndianaSPRING IN INDIANA

What a crowd at the greenhouse! There was hardly a space to park when the plant sale began.
George bought purple delphinium, blue larkspur, pink lupines, red dianthus, silver salvia, pink hollyhock, and yellow, pink, red and orange gerber daiseys. Now all we need are frost free nights to make our garden full of color. I need to plant my lettuce since it is cold resistant as I am not.
I keep trying to get George to plant our walled gaarden , as if he doesn't have enough gardens to maintain. I am fortunate to have my own personal gardener even though we enjoy sharing with Inntiquiy's interested guests. Lee Innkeeper

" We have thoroughly enjoyed the Yellow rose room. Our kitchen uses recipes from old implement magazines, church publications, old family recipes - Auntie's Sugar cookies, Poor House Cookies ,Grandma's Cream Pie, German Potato Salad Lucille's homemade Ice Cream- and too many others to mention. Some Leslie profits from as in her Guiness Cake. We have thought of offering a cooking school weekend.
Our Easter Buffet gave us a chance to share our food with with 87 guests. We loved having them. They are always so complimentary.
Since April is almost here in Indiana we are all excited about getting our new plants and putting them in our beds. George has 23 acres minus my 10 eight by four herb and vegetable plots. Amazing how many people have never experienced an unrefridgerated tomato! Wow!
George has to plant as many unusual plants as he can find. Unfortunately most will remain unlabeled. He really has the place looking beautiful though. We all have planting fever! Come check us out. If there is ice they sit on it as though to make it melt. We are not sure if these are the same ones returning every year. Last year they swam with five goslings between them until they grew enough to learn to fly. Deer, birds, and even a mink have been seen on our ever more frequent days.
Our celtic musicians kept us smiling as we enjoyed their gathering and enteracting. The inn wore a happy face. Honeymooners and anniversary couples filled the inn to keep making special breakfasts and welcoming interesting new people.
We were excited to host a work shop conference for the Soybean growers. Big group, big men and big vehicles. A very dynamic group!
March has us making use of our dining areas because of our early Easter. Each year we celebrate by by using our family recipes for a big Easter Buffet. I'ts great to welcome local families and neighbors with our overnight guests.
Lrr, Innkeeper

Innkeeper @ Inntiquityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11795354577017837419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1641281396420859536.post-1979426416356123172008-02-05T18:06:00.000-06:002008-02-05T18:23:30.918-06:00Romantic Indiana Bed and BreakfastHere at Inntiquity Inn, Chef Leslie, George and I have been busy gathering candelabras, (one of George's favorite antique items to collect), red rose petals, red linens, and stemware to accompany Chef Leslie's famous four course candlelight champagne dinners.
