Baylor offered accepted freshman a few hundred dollars in bookstore credit to retake the SAT, and a thousand if their scores went up fifty points. Baylor claimed it was a way to distribute leftover scholarship money; critics said it was a way to raise the average SAT score of accepted students, thus potentially plumping Baylor's rating in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.
