We had a great crowd and some amazing food. Each show gave a short preview. A good time was had by all.

:)

GO BPF!Jacob Hellmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08997511019148718113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1587244366129347801.post-62085895087194064622007-06-13T19:07:00.000-04:002007-06-13T20:43:12.125-04:00B.P.F. and A.D.D.As I sit down to write this blog, I feel I should be doing something else. That I have some impending deadline... But what is it? Rewriting a scene? Crafting a new bio? Drafting a new news release? Alas, it escapes my ever-racing mind.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of months of rehearsals, meetings, phone calls, collaborations and networking as I work with Theatrical Mining Company to launch my play through Baltimore Playwrights Festival. And for a mind like mine, the insane list of responsibilities has been a good match.

You see, I have an unproven theory that anyone who voluntarily agrees to be involved in any aspect of the theatrical world has, on some level, a form of A.D.D. For those of you who haven’t seen those commercials of a young professional unable to concentrate during a boring conference meeting (or those of you who simply don’t have children), A.D.D. stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. It’s the inability to focus on one thing for a long time. It’s a condition that can be controlled with mind-altering, psychotropic drugs (However, you run the risk of Tom Cruise calling and chastising you… who can forget his anti-A.D.D. medicine tirade). But I think A.D.D. can be a blessing for those involved in all aspects of theatre -- because theatre folk must focus on MANY duties at once to mount a show. Writers have a handful of characters to juggle in their minds. Directors have to herd actors and crew during rehearsals. Producers have to find money, find money and find more money. And sometimes they have to find money. So everyone has many tasks to occupy his or her theatre-related A.D.D. mind.

Since getting word that my play would be produced through the B.P.F. this summer, there has been a great deal to occupy my mind. However, in the midst of the deadlines, the commutes to rehearsal and the late-night iced coffees, I’ve already started to thinking of things to occupy my mind once the season closes (such as planning my play’s life post-B.P.F. and collaborating on a new work with a fellow B.P.F. playwright). It’s plenty to occupy my A.D.D. mind for now and the months to come. Who needs those mind-altering, psychotropic drugs? I thank you B.P.F. And Tom Cruise thanks you.

Now… what am I suppose to be doing?WriterTyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17074618091188392756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1587244366129347801.post-30162533934312494392007-06-11T01:28:00.000-04:002007-06-11T01:30:18.088-04:00Welcome!Welcome to the official Baltimore Playwrights Festival blog!
