Unfortunately, I blew it, because I should
have gotten this out sooner, so we could have elections at the normal meeting
time. However, it's unfair to everyone involved to only give one day's notice.
As a result, I'm scheduling elections for this Thursday at 7:30PM. If that does
not work for you, just let me know, and you can still run; you won't be able to
present, but just let me know what you want me to say, and you can still be a
candidate.

If you haven't been an officer before, we ask that you please fill out the
officer application on our website (gtacm.org -> documents section).

If you're a returning officer, you don't need to do this. However, please update
me on:
-Whether you will be re applying for next year or not (please let me know either
way).
-If you're staying, which position(s) you're applying for, just for my
information.

Tentatively, we'll schedule this in the student org room. I will confirm this as
soon as I know for sure.

Thanks everyone! Let me know if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to
another great year!

-Chris Sladky
GTACM President

FYI:
I will be running for President.
Elections are determined by a majority of ACM members present.

The following is a list of our positions:
-President
-Vice-President Internal
-Vice-President External
-Treasurer
-Secretary
-Publicity Chair (filled for next year unless current officer decides to run
for a different position)
-Social Chair
-Technology Chair (website)
-SIG Chair (filled for next year unless current officer decides to run for a
different position)
-Membership Chair

We are also looking for leaders for the signews Special Interest Group (all
positions are open-President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary) or anyone wanting to
start a new Special Interest Group.

Chris Sladkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10092013186533136616noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15560507.post-87640606711621288742008-03-07T14:01:00.000-08:002008-03-07T14:23:35.322-08:00Presentation order:

Roger Pincombe-One Big Canvas
Roger Pincombe-DialPrice
Hementh Pai-Accessibility Toolkit for Webpages
Christopher Sladky-TripHack
Jeff Starker - See Them Live
Depack - YKids
Alex Guan-BusTracker
Rohit Sinha-Absolute Everything
William Harris-Magic Player
Enrique Santos-Brainiac
Travis Gockel-Mobile Quiz
Jeffrey Bernard-Flixr
Trevor Stone-HandyMap
Stan Komsky-AutoPicSaver
Nick Padgett-Skedu
Praful Rana-Buzzwords
Mike Pulaski-Syncr
David Foster-NetDraw
Jeff Wei-ChatBlock
Michael Tanner - Ajax JSON Edit
Andrew Guyton-GT Campus Information Mashup

Chris Sladkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10092013186533136616noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15560507.post-69940417507897819932008-03-05T17:50:00.000-08:002008-03-05T18:06:36.263-08:00Yahoo! Here's some basic info and bullets of interesting information:

IBM is aligned around a single, focused business model: innovation. IBM takes its breadth and depth of insight on issues, processes and operations across a variety of industries, and invents and applies technology to help solve its clients' most intractable business and competitive problems. Although it remain committed, as ever, to lead the development of state-of-the-art technologies, and the products and service offerings built around them, it measures itself today by how well it helps clients solve their biggest and most pressing problems.

• In 2007, for the 15th consecutive year, IBM was issued more U.S. patents (3125) than any other company. This is just one example of the company's technology leadership that continues to be reflected in its products and services. Some other quick facts:
• Revenue: $91.4 billion, Net Income: $9.4 billion(2006 year-end).

• IBM has 355,766 employees worldwide, and serves customers in 170 countries. (2006)

• In 2006 IBM invested $6.1 billion in Research and Development.

• IBM's net 2006 cash investment of $3.8 billion for 13 acquisitions — nine of them in key strategic areas of software — was up $2.3 billion year to year.

• In January 2006, the United States Patent and Trademark Office reported that IBM earned more patents than any other company for the thirteenth consecutive year. In 2005, IBM earned 2,941 patents -- 1,100 more patents than any other company.

• IBM is the world leader in middleware and the second-largest software company overall. IBM is the market leader in information management software, all application integration and middleware categories; instant messaging software for corporations; portal software; and systems management and systems operations software.

• IBM is the world leader in IT services and consulting. With approximately 200,000 services professionals globally, the company's offerings include data center outsourcing, business transformation services, consulting, systems integration, application management services, infrastructure and system maintenance and Web hosting. (3/2007)

• The world leader in server sales, IBM has improved its server market position by about 10 points since 2000. IBM leads in supercomputers, with 237 of the top 500 systems including number one, BlueGene/L, and four of the world's top five systems. (11/06)

• Power Architecture microprocessors, custom designed and manufactured by IBM, run both the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 game consoles. Sony PLAYSTATION 3 is powered by the Cell Broadband Engine, a nine-core Power Architecture chip manufactured by IBM and designed jointly by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba.

• IBM procured $36 billion in goods and services globally in 2006. In October, 2006, IBM announced the relocation of its global procurement headquarters to Shenzhen, China as the company continues its strategy to draw more efficiently on its global capabilities and capitalize on emerging market opportunities.

• In June 2006 IBM announced "The Forbidden City: Beyond Space and Time,"a new cultural heritage initiative that will present the history and splendor of China's Forbidden City to a global audience. The project, undertaken in partnership with The Palace Museum, will bring Chinese culture to the world by creating a virtual online 3D recreation of the Forbidden City and associated sites in Beijing.

Chris Sladkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10092013186533136616noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15560507.post-3452924070215775582008-01-28T10:47:00.000-08:002008-02-11T11:42:46.243-08:00Want to be an officer?Hey everyone! ACM is back in action and ready for another great semester.
We kicked off this semester's series of Tech Talks last week with Amazon.com, and it was great to see many of you there. It was a really great experience to hear from such an influential company in e-commerce. Coming up in the next few weeks, we have even more exciting speakers and events for you!

First, next Tuesday, we will host a man who needs almost no introduction-Christopher Klaus, who's name the Klaus Advanced Computing Building Proudly displays. The event will start at 6:30PM, and will be held in Klaus 1447. Pizza will be provided following the event.

The following Tech Talk will be on February 12th, and we will be hosting someone else who needs no intro, IBM. Currently, it is up-and-running with the following features: standard functionality (that is, standard software that already comes with new computer), and Microsoft Office (2003, which I installed today [02/22/07]). Other features that will be implemented in the near future are the following: Internet Access (which will require a wireless adapter that needs to be purchased), USB cable for printer (which we also need to purchase), and perhaps Dual Boot (with Ubuntu).

Thank you for your time,

Jimmy M.
