Dutch website Gay.nl pronounced Lady Gaga as gay-icon of the year 2009. Although I voted for Mika (who became number two, which is good enough as it is), I also strongly agree with this choice. Not only does Lady Gaga make killer music, she has also spoke out for gay rights multiple times, among others at an official White House banquet.

Morris is back

News for my Dutch readers who also happen to watch daily soap opera Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden. After a two year absence, actor Joris Putman will come back on the show as his character Morris Fischer, it was announced today by TV station RTL4.

After Patrick Martens and Geert Hoes, Joris Putman is the third actor to be playing the role of Morris. He left the show two years ago in a storyline that involved an attempted murder on the character of Ludo Sanders.

Blue Peter has given out fewer than 1,000 of the badges in its 51-year history, and The Queen is among the recipients!

State of the day: Kentucky

On the 29th day of our virutal tour through the United States, we're visiting Kentucky, nicknamed the Bluegrass State. Here are my three favourte things (and mind you, obviously Kentucky Fried Chicken is definitely NOT one of them!):

1) Mammoth Cave National Park is a U.S. National Park in central Kentucky, encompassing portions of Mammoth Cave, the longest cave system known in the world. The official name of the system is the Mammoth-Flint Ridge Cave System for the ridge under which the cave has formed. The park was established as a national park on July 1, 1941. It became a World Heritage Site on October 27, 1981, and an international Biosphere Reserve on September 26, 1990.

2) Kentucky contains the largest elk herd east of Kentucky. In the deer family, only the moose is larger than the elk, so seeing a herd of elk in the wild must be pretty impressive!

3) Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky, although it's not the capital (Frankfort is). Louisville is situated on the Ohio River in north-central Kentucky at the Falls of the Ohio. Because it includes counties in Southern Indiana, the Louisville metropolitan area is often referred to as Kentuckiana. The river forms the border between Kentucky and Indiana. A resident of Louisville is referred to as a Louisvillian. Although situated in a Southern state, Louisville is influenced by both Southern and Midwestern culture. It is sometimes referred to as either the northernmost Southern city or the southernmost Northern city in the United States.

Too many tattoo's

Former Spice Girl Mel C has told the Daily Telegraph she sometimes regrets having 11 tatoo's all over her body. According to Sporty Spice it means she can't be incognito anywhere, since people recognize her from her famous tattoo's.

Furthermore, she's starring in West End production Blood Brothers currently, for which she has to cover her tattoo's night after night, because they don't fit her character in the production.

As I've always said: one tatoo is cool (I've got one), but you should never get too many!

Role model?

This has 'very bad idea' written all over it: Lily Allen, who is known more for her drinking and partying behaviour than her singing (although I do think she's a great singer), wants to have a baby, with her boyfriend Sam Cooper. Lily has been saying she wants to leave showbizz for a while now, but taken a kid as well? Could she really change so much in such a short time?

I saw her perform at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam just a couple of months ago, and she wasn't exactly behaving like a role model back then...

No Friends movie yet

Although rumours have been flying around on the internet for a while now, according to Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay, fans cannot expect a Friends movie just yet. According to Lisa there hasn't been any contact with the creators of the show, David Crane and Marta Kauffman yet.

She compared a possible Friends movie with the Sex And The City movie, which was very succesful and will be followed by a sequel this year. According to the actress, Sex And The City, as a TV show, was already sort of a movie, although cut in to pieces of a half hour each. With Friends, the storylines were more apart, which would make it more difficult to create a movie. Besides, as Lisa says, she would miss the live audience when making a film.

I hope at one point there will be a Friends movie. I've always loved the sitcom, it would be great to have a movie version!

Dutch eurodance duo 2 Unlimited is officially back, now that they've released their new single In Da Name Of Love today. Unfortunately, because they don't own the right to the name 2 Unlimited, Ray Slijngaard and Anita Doth won't be able to call themselves by the bandname we all know them for. I'm curious as to what the new name will become.

Regardless, it's cool they're back!

Two time's a strike

They must really like this movie... Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were spotted going to the cinema to see James Cameron's movie Avatar for the second time in just a little over a week.

After leaving the cinema, Zac was nice enough to autograph some pictures for waiting fans. Something Vanessa would probably never do...

Perhaps this wasn't the smartest thing to do: after being exposed as an adulterer, creating one of the biggest celebrity scandals of 2009, Tiger Woods appears shirtless on the cover of the new issue of Vanity Fair. Granted, the pictures were taken before the scandal came out, but perhaps 'sexy' isn't the image he should be looking for at a time like this, especially since his sponsors are dropping him one after another...

Life 4 you

Mika was at Dutch TV show Life 4 You this weekend. Life 4 You is a talkshow with a chef in the studio, ending each episode with dinner for hosts Carlo Boszhard and Irene Moors, along with their famous guests.

Anyway, Mika got presented with a coconut, filled with food, and proclaimed it looked horrible. After taking a bite, he still wasn't convinced, causing host Irene Moors to wonder if he had been smoking weed in Amsterdam before visiting the show.
