Sing, play music, read a book, dance, or draw with your child at home.

2 - Encourage your child to participate in the arts and celebrate their participation in or out of school.

3- Explore your community’s library and read “the classics” together—from Mother Goose to Walt Whitman.

4 - Read your local newspaper to find out about attending local arts events like museum exhibits, local plays, festivals, or outdoor concerts.

5 - Tell your child’s teacher, principal, and school leadership that the arts are vital to your child’s success and an important part of a quality education. Find out if your school has sufficient resources for arts education, including qualified teachers and materials. If not, offer to help.

6 - Contact your local arts organizations to inquire about the arts education programs they offer either during school hours or after school. Volunteer to donate time, supplies, or help with their advocacy efforts and connect these services to your child’s school.

7 - Attend a school board or PTA meeting and voice your support for the arts to show them you care and make sure the arts are adequately funded as part of the core curriculum in the school budget.

8 - Explore your child’s dream to sing, to dance, to draw, to act—and encourage them to become the best they can be through the arts.

9 - Be an arts supporter! Contact your elected officials—lawmakers and school board members—to ask them for more arts education funding from the local, state, and federal levels. Visit our Online Resource Center.

10 - Sign up to become an activist on the Americans for the Arts website, just a click away! The 'Art Vault' is a fund raiser for Circle 10 Art Gallery in Oriental, and also a chance for you to be part of a hunt for treasures and to make some money to support your art habit. The date is Saturday, October 4, 2008. Circle !0 Artists and volunteers will ensure that this is an entertaining event in every respect.

As an artist, I have collected art and fine craft over the years and while I still love the pieces, many of them are tucked away because I do no't have room or they just do not fit in with my décor any longer. I do not want to give them away, cannot see their fate consigned to a mere yard sale where no one will honor their value. I am always looking for new art and fine craft and as long as I have things in closets, I talk myself out of buying new things so I am excited to have the chance to have someone else enjoy my old favorites.

The Art Vault will let us clean out our closets, pare down some clutter and empty the attic of the treasures we want to pass on. You price the work (we are suggesting, "gasp!, wholesale") and we will provide a hall and the staff to sell the work. You get other advantages; first crack at seeing some exciting work, the chance to sell your collected treasures and buy some more, after all,who else has better art, than artists?

The event will take place at St. Peter the Fisherman's Catholic Church Hall in Oriental. We are having a pig pickin' from 11-2, a Treasure Chest Raffle with some donated art inside, a "less than perfect" area where we will put work that we're just not completely satisfied with, and other areas of interest.

We will set up sections and price them as follows:
$400
$300
$200
$150
$100
$75
$50
$25
$10

There is no fee to participate but there will be a 20% commission on your sales to offset the cost of the hall and the pig. You will get one free admission ticket, and can hang one of your own pieces of art.

I have already heard from some artists and art collectors who want to donate some pieces too. It is your choice.

For more information and an application, call Candace Young at 745-4749, and leave your name, email or number, or call the gallery at 249=0298. Wed.-Sat 10 –- 5pm and Sunday 1-4 pm.

All art must be original

Catagories:

All two-dimensional painting, drawing etc.
Sculpture, hard and soft
Pottery
Glass; fused, hot and stained
Jewelry
Textiles
Metal
Fine woodwork
Photography
Nothing from kits

This event is to kick off Circle 10 Art Gallery's 25 year and will establish The Janet Adkins Art Scholarship. Janet, while not a founding member of Circle 10, has been an active member for 25 years and has set a very high standard of challenging herself to progress each of those 25 years. I hope you will be part of this event.

Candace Young
brp@embarqmail.com
bayriverpottery.com
252-745-4749The Council for the Artshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14823598361392305696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522142644338901768.post-77890691851168740932008-08-19T20:28:00.001-04:002008-08-19T20:31:45.215-04:00The WiFi "First Ten" Screenplay CompetitionThe WiFi "First Ten" Screenplay Competition!
