This Just In! New Blog for McDermott Library's Leisure Reading Collection

We are happy to announce the launching of a new blog, Leisure Reading: New Items and Coming Soon. In it, you will find a list of the top 15 books from New York Time's bestselling fiction, accompanied by call numbers for your convenience, a list of books soon to be released on the shelves, and, in the near future, a list of new non-bestseller titles just released to the shelves, also accompanied by call numbers. We thank our hardworking staff member, Chad Pearson, for the creation and maintenance of this weekly list. You can also find the link over in the right hand column of this blog under the "Links" heading.

Returning Fall Student Library Access RESTORED

The library has been working diligently with IR to restore access to our electronic resources (databases, e-journals and e-books), including the ability to place Interlibrary Loan requests, hold checked-out books via the catalog, and renew books online. We are happy to report that access to these resources has been RESTORED for returning students who are registered for fall classes but not currently taking summer school classes. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience this disruption has caused, and we encourage you to contact us if you encounter problems.

SCOPUS, ScienceDirect Downtime This Saturday, June 20th

Wiley Interscience Journals - Access to Newer Issues Restored

SciFinder - Off-Campus Access Unavailable

Off-Campus access to SciFinder has been made temporarily unavailable due to technical problems. We are working with CAS representatives to correct the problem as soon as possible, and we will post when off-campus access has been reinstated.

RIA Checkpoint (Tax Database) Up for On-Campus Access, Down for Off-Campus Access

The RIA Checkpoint tax database is now operating for on-campus use only. We are working with RIA's representatives to restore off-campus access as soon as possible.

Access to Springer Ebook Collections Restored

The library is happy to report that access to the ebook collections in Springer (see Friday, May 22nd posting) has been restored.

Access Problem with Springer Ebook Collections

We have recently discovered that when Springer turned off the library's access to a trial ebook collection, portions of ebook collections to which we are paid subscribers were turned off by mistake.

The affected collections are

Springer Computer Science Collection ebooks, 2005-2009 (including Lecture Notes in Computer Science)
Springer Behavioral Science Collection ebooks, 2005-2009
Springer Business & Economics Collection ebooks, 2005-2009

We have reported the problem to Springer and intend to have those collections restored as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience imposed on our patrons.

Planned Outage for Electronic Resources and the Catalog

UPDATE: The upgrade has been successful and the library catalog and electronic resources have been returned to normal function.

Wiley Interscience Journals

The library would like to inform our patrons of two known issues - one that has occurred, and another planning to occur - with Wiley Interscience online journals.

May 2009 and newer issues are temporarily unavailable. A problem has arisen with the renewal of our institutional subscription. Until it is resolved, Wiley has temporarily blocked access to any issues to which we are subscribed starting with May 2009 forward. Patrons may request articles they need but cannot access by going to the Interlibrary Loan page (http://www.utdallas.edu/library/services/ill.htm).
Wiley Interscience will be temporarily down for maintenance on Monday (5.18) 3:00am - 4:00am.

SCOPUS Downtime on Saturday, May 16th

McDermott Library has a lineupof activities to celebrate National Library Week
The festivities will include:

An Exhibit. The most checked out items in the history of the Library will be showcased in the second floor lobby exhibit case.• A Contest. Students and Faculty members should check out a book to enter the "National Library Week" contest.
A PRIZE. . . . possibly an iPod Nano or a gift certificate at Barnes & Noble. The first 50 entries win an earth-friendly bag.

New Wiley Journal Content Temporarily On Hold

The library has recently received news from online journal publisher Wiley that content slated for publication on or after May 1st, 2009 will not be available until UT System renewals are processed. Some titles are published online in advance of print (e.g., Geophysical Journal International), so we ask our users for patience while we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to establish access to these dates by the end of the month and will post an update as soon as it happens.
