hahahahahahaha Yeah, Erica I wasn't suggesting that Gay people had a choice. Only Bi people have a choice. :P But even then they can't choose which one they like more. I'd say I'm about 80/20 percentage wise. I'm always going to prefer a guy, but it's not like I haven't had my girl crushes.

Yup, Biden squirmed when asked point blank if he was for/against gay marriage. For me I don't see the difference in saying a gay couple can't marry because they are gay vs. an interracial couple can't get married because they are from two different races. But America's memory is so fleeting...

Not a single one of my gay friends had any choice in being gay. I have very specific theories about why people are homophobic, most of it revolving around an "ick" factor. Most men I know would gladly watch lesbian porn with two gorgeous females but the "ick" thought of what gay men actually do drives them over the edge. It's pathetically childish.

As for the spectrum . . . I think I probably float along it . . .my favorite lesbian crush is Tina Fey. Smart, funny. If I digged chicks in that way--she'd be my choice. But for now, I am content to go see Sedaris and dream of my gay husband. ;-)

Ugh! I am so jealous! I am a major Sedaris fan! A friend and I once signed up for a bus trip to a reading of his in Philly, but it was canceled for some reason. We were devastated. It took a lot of Sake to make us feel better. I mean, a lot!

I agree. I don't understand this bizarre obsession with other people's relationships. BUT I will say...I think a part of it is a genuine fear of "turning gay" and the social ostracizing that often comes with being gay.

I think this is true because sexual orientation isn't A or B, or perfect C (like 50/50 bi) People get even more upset about bisexuality because it admits there aren't just two options here.

I think most human beings have SOME even if just a teeny tiny bit of a bisexual leaning, and those that do tend to think being gay is a "choice" (because it's a theoretical choice FOR THEM)

And yeah, I know I probably either freaked out or pissed off about 90% of the people who just read my comment, lol.

Sexuality is a little more flexible than some wish it was, but by the same token it's inflexible. As in, if someone is gay, they can't 'shut it off' or choose not to be, anymore than a straight person can. But those straight people with a mild sexual attraction to the same sex often live in abject terror they're going to "catch" being Gay. And so they want to hide it away from the public.

When I was a teenager I was incredibly homophobic and pretty much "loved the sinner but hated the sin" etc. And I find women sexually hot too haha! So, for me, that was where that came from. And the more I studied sexuality and sexual orientation the more I came to understand these lines we have between straight and gay are not quite so sturdy as we sometimes like to believe, and that's okay.

I think the focus is all wrong. If we could truly make people understand that their sexual identity really can't be ripped away from them, they might be more accepting of others.

I don't understand the gay marriage thing. It was my biggest disappointment in Biden. Why in the world do people even care? Why are they so threatened by it?
