So if you have a Very Polite Important Person of 40 or higher then you are very polite to all other poker players at your table. Losing $4,000 or more at .25/.50 puts you just at the cutoff for being very polite, the 40 is multiplied by double the buy in for your current stake (so 100 for .25/.50) and if you lose 40 x 100 you've lost 4,000 making your vpip 40. If you lose 4,000 at .50/1.00 for instance, you're vpip would only be 20, and less people would consider you to be polite.
