Use this link to push politics: Sen. John McCain eats the birth control question like waffles, slow and deliberate. Does he want strawberry sauce or maple syrup? He's not sure.

my comment:
It is time to face the facts and curb this ongoing outpour of male spermatozoa. The penis is dead. Long live the ROAR of liberation. Give American women FREE birth control. List it under the criteria of the next universal healthcare proposal. The continued discrimination against women by holding them back from their potentials due to fear of pregnancy put upon them by some senseless sperm-shooting male will not stand.

When you do fill this immediate need on behalf of all American women, the nagging will not cease because wage discrimination and social conventions still compromise and undermine women but at least women will not be nagging about the birth control issue.

It may read extreme but if women are not allowed free (or at least affordable -- per my definition this should read as "free") birth control then all boys at puberty must undergo vasectomy.

Not a vacation

My sweetest aunt had double foot surgery last week and is now home, both feet encased in 20 pound plastic frankenboots. Thus, I got a theater shift covered and am at her house in Seattle fixing food, fluffing pillows, loading movies in the DVD tray. It is nice to be useful.

A possibly well-intentioned man commented on the 7/12 post. He posted link to an exclusionary group: Pretty Girls Save the World.

Who determines what pretty is?
What does beauty have to do with anything?
Can we just get over our shells and be frickin human?

Is there an age limit? Or Height/Weight proportions these "girls" have to meet? I wonder how the two dudes (President and Vice President, no less) feel about the fact that their balls are aging, sagging, stinking. Too personal? Guess what, women get that kinda crap all day long every day.

"Pretty girl"? You'd better be kidding. Of all the things to title, no, label an outraged woman sick of being oppressed by patriarchal society.

Why should a "pretty girl" in our contemporary commercial-driven society expose herself to the media harassment attached to any public action(s)?

Fine and dandy for someone named Adam to point this site out but, Adam, who are you helping? After uncountable generations of women born from all genetic variations have been manipulated by, demeaned or taken advantage of in the name of all kinds of cockamamie horse shit agendas, do you really think marketing "pretty girls" is the way to start a true and much needed revolution?

Puh leese.

What's clear to me is that the PGStW pogrom is not meant to change anything for the better. It's a cute, antiquated, misguided attempt to get some media attention.

Stop the False Race/Gender Divide: A Call to Action

We are calling on white progressive women activists and feminists to
join us in challenging the onslaught of reactionary and racist
arguments being put forward in the name of feminism and in defense of
Hillary Clinton. We are saddened and frustrated by the abandonment of
feminist commitments to the freedom and liberation of all women from
all forms of oppression. We stand with all the women who have stepped
up in the past several months to say no to this kind of feminism â€“
including Barbara Ransby, Melissa Harris-Lacewell, KimberlÃ© Crenshaw
and Eve Ensler, Zillah Eisenstein, Suzanne Pharr, among others. We are
adding our voices to this dialogue as white women grounded in the
feminist movement and actively engaged in issues impacting women and
girls.

We strongly disagree with this reactive critique of sexism that has
been grounded in a denial of the ongoing legacies of racism and white
supremacy. The misogyny and sexism directed against Hillary Clinton
are real and must be called out and challenged. However, a critique of
sexism must not be at the expense of addressing racism and other forms
of oppression. The misogyny is deplorable to say the least, and yet it
must not be used as a reason to deny racism, to distance ourselves from
struggles against racism, and/or to perpetrate racism in defense of
"women."

We need to resist and refuse this exclusive, defensive, and racist
politics if we are serious about coalitional, broad-based,
interconnected women's solidarity movements. For white women, an
exclusive and defensive focus on sexism denies accountability for our
racial privilege. It erases our own complicity in the multiple systems
of oppression that shape our lives, perspectives, and allegiances. We
believe these politics significantly undermine the efforts of many
women â€“ especially women of color â€“ to create feminisms that are
grounded in multiple identities and in struggles against multiple
oppressions. They destroy the possibilities for coalition, alliance,
and solidarity across our differences and inequalities of race,
sexuality, immigration status, gender identity, age, and more.

Here in Chicago, we have dialogued with white women and women of color
as a way of challenging the racial divides being promoted by some white
feminists and the mainstream media. We feel that as white feminists it
is imperative that we speak out publicly against the racism and
divisiveness that we are seeing. We therefore offer the following
statement of our refusals and commitments.

We invite you to join us in our efforts. We are calling on white
progressive women to take a stand by signing onto this letter and
distributing it far and wide. We welcome all progressive activists,
including women of color and allies, to sign the letter as well. Add

I'm revolted by this lack of revolution. The continued fixation on the exteriors of all human-type mammals in this post-modern, post-ironic, post-optimistic America is shit.

We have a duty for all humanity. That duty is equality. Exteriors, be they melanin based or gender/chromosomal based, are not what comprises the mental capacity or voracity of a human.

I think we have tits enough to fight this bigotry. (I guess men might have balls enough to help out. But I'm not counting on it.)

PDX Wrestling has everything, including a terrible sound system.

The setting: an auto body shop swept clean, a boxing ring rolled to one side, an assortment of folding chairs. Front row was ten bucks though no one was in the second row. One lamp lit the stage.

The crowd: rowdy. Children shouted, granddad shook his fist, and grandma nearly chucked a chair at a "bad guy".

The players: a mix of hot and muscular young thangs to old potato-legs with droopy pants. Candlesticks were flashed. Moons were given.

The show: flashy young guys scrapped around broad chested dudes twice their weight. Dramas were enacted. One old guy bribed a big guy to fight some other guy. A title was almost stolen from the current PDX champ but all the good guys ran out to stop the heist - one good guy waved his metal folding chair.

PDX Wrestling is every Friday. Plot lines are cultivated. It's clear that repeated attendance should be encouraged. And it doesn't hurt that the young guys are kinda hot looking.

Overall, I give this show two fists in the air and a roar for more.

Some of you know how much I hate my birthday being celebrated. Other people can party, shout, rent flashing LED signs to announce their "special" day over the I-5 corridor during rush hour. That's fine. Just let me be quiet and modest, will ya? Less remains more.

Ignoring the approach of this ignoble, obnoxious day, I cooked up a website, found some code, used my .info address, and slapped it all on a free host server. That free host is proving to not work. At this time, I can't afford more than a couple bucks a month for hosting. The other option, previously mentioned, is scrapping my old ibook into a server. I have it formatted but need to re-case it. Facing a time crunch that can not be denied, I choose to purchase web hosting.

Any reliable, inexpensive hosts out there?

I have been cutting up many of my less successful drawings, of which there are thousands. I have a template which enables me to rapidly crop out 2 or 6 or whatever interesting parts of any one drawing. So in May I had 200 plus 'drawings' which I gave away with much fanfare - "each bit of art caressed by the hand of the master" and some other palaver emulating WCFields. And it was fun, and oddly, some people, many, seemed touched by the gift. Sincere thank you and careful handling of what for the most part are just scribbles in my view. Here and there a face or major part of a face.

So this July show I do much the same thing again, and hand out another 200+. "Don't want to leave a widow with a warehouse", "got to move the merchandise" etc etc. Amazingly several patrons are looking for my free art, and they have to tell me what they did with the last piece and how much they enjoy it etc. Put it up in the cubicle, have it in the office, in the bedroom, on the refrigerator, found an old frame and its on the wall in the living room, etc etc.

At first it is amusing and a bit flattering, but as it goes on it becomes a bit poignant, sad in a way. Here are all these people on an Artwalk, and my constant chanting of "Its an Artwalk, don't leave without some Art!" and their gracious humble acceptance of free art, and then to find that they are treasuring these trinkets. The brighter colored drawings are the most popular. And it seems these are simple savages. The "Tall Boats" are in Tacoma and I get to thinking about when the tall boats came into contact with the natives that were amazed at glass beads,woven blankets, iron pans etc.

And why are these people on an Artwalk? They never buy anything, they have money for drinks, but no money for art. Most of the artists rarely sell anything. Aside from entertainment, of which I am the major provider, why is this silent herd of humanoids wasting the evening?

In olden times, I used to attend readings - poetry readings etc were a small scale cool scene, and I would try to scrounge up the $3 or whatever to buy the booklet etc, that was sort of my obligation. Back when attending bands, I would buy the record or tape or more recently cd, but recently noticed that the bands no longer hawk their cd, they mention it, but you have to go buttonhole someone in the band to get one and they don't have change etc etc. Not long ago there would be a card table and a hot chick to peddle the merchandise.

What has happened here, is it all supposed to be free? Just lay it out there and stand by as they assess the entertainment potential? Amused or not amused, we still aren't going to spend any money? We still have no opinion or comment, no matter how amusing or provocative?

I will be giving another 200+ away next month and then move on to who knows what other caper. But I am bemused. Maybe I should raffle something off?

And so another semester begins. This time I won't be reading half so many books as last semester. No essay = no sweat.

I'm alternating between:
The James Tiptree Award Anthology #3

Penguin Classics' Russian Short Stories from Pushkin to Buida, given to me by Mo.

I am grateful to Prof Rember for pushing me to write new material during the residency. I have three unreasonable and highly probable ideas to work with.

Had my last Dr appointment for the ribs. I am considered healed though I can't run, bike, climb ladders, lift anything of much weight, or fall again because I "could puncture a lung." Oh those silly doctors and their admonishments. Two months must pass before I can manipulate my body willy nilly and carefree. Still, I can't sneeze for the pain.

Independence Day
On July 4th we celebrate our Independence, and exercise a few of the freedoms our beneficent government has left to us. The Arts have become one of the last areas in the ‘Land of the Free’ in which a citizen can do whatever they damn well please. In the arts you can do whatever you want as long as it comes out of your own wallet. You can be just as creative as you can afford to be.

As artists we are free to repeat the same stylistic tropes over and over. Magic tricks of deception and illusion are practiced, honed, and presented to a bewilderingly silent and passive audience. That is true freedom - to be free of constraints and have no one give a damn. Silence is applause; indifference is encouragement. An artist becomes a living example of self-destruction as a method of gaining control over ones own destiny. As artists we aren’t here to satisfy your desires, we are here to create new desires.
