I guess there's no persuading a cat! <div><br /></div><div>It's been a stressful day here. I won't go into specifics, but Daughter and I are clashing and it's been a rough day. Can't we just skip these years? No? *sigh* There are a few other stresses as well, ones I've been worrying over for a couple of weeks. Needless to say all this combined has not made for a good day. </div><div>Um, it's been a slow day here. Nothing major to report. I did finish the Linda Howard book <b>Cover of Night. </b>I'm not sure which book I'll pick up next and I just checked the library website and I have two more holds in to pick up tomorrow. I feel blessed about how quickly the library has been getting in books I'm excited to read. Especially since there will be no book purchases for me for a while. (Unless it's the UBS.)</div><div>I don't want to bore y'all with all the household things I've done today. I will say that last night I buzzed Son's hair and it was a sad Mommy moment when I swept it up and in the dustpan was a mound of red hair. Because it made me think that my little boy is growing up. He likes his hair cut like his Dad and there's no going back, he's just getting bigger and bigger. Oh, and Son has finally added a new "food" to his small group of foods he likes. He now likes sunflower seeds. Roasted sunflower seeds. And, um, you know how most people crack the shell? Yeah, he eats the WHOLE thing. </div><div>I meant to tell y'all that Sunday was the last day of Pepper's antibiotics. She was fine yesterday and this also means her forced incarceration at night is now over and she has the run of the house while we're asleep and not just during the day. So far so good, but being the worries I am, could y'all please cross your fingers she stay's healthy? She spent last night trading off sleeping on our bed and Daughter's. </div><div>Anyway, Chris DID finish mowing the yard this evening after the kids and I arrived home from the Y. Then we made dinner together and watched <i>The Closer</i>. Another good episode tonight. </div><div>That's about it from here. I still have some things to take care of, so I'm headed off. I hope y'all had a productive and happy day. I wish a sunny and pleasant Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 57, 1 Hour Yoga. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-676318147233168074?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-77171952267572357482009-07-12T22:35:00.003-05:002009-07-12T22:57:55.426-05:00Butterscotch trades up!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlqszROsWZI/AAAAAAAACuc/hi0bSwtWk4Q/s1600-h/DSC00628.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlqszROsWZI/AAAAAAAACuc/hi0bSwtWk4Q/s320/DSC00628.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357784703508961682" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlqsCwgBqwI/AAAAAAAACuU/XYmmiEXoQ1Q/s1600-h/DSC00627.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlqsCwgBqwI/AAAAAAAACuU/XYmmiEXoQ1Q/s320/DSC00627.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357783870089571074" /></a>This is Butterscotch's old collar. (Um, the red one.) Notice that it is fuzzy and resembles a clown ruff. Then there's the new collar (that we picked up when we went grocery shopping Friday). Butterscotch seems to like it. It has sparkly paw prints on the top. Somehow they seem to fit his personality. *G* See, he's showing it off! <div><br /></div><div>Today has been a pretty quiet day. Chris had to go into work for a few hours and while he was gone the kids were pretty quiet. It helped that they were in their rooms thanks to the heat outside today. I spent a good portion of the time he was gone taking care of some laundry and ironing. Then? I spent time doing whatever I wanted. I read some, the Linda Howard book I'm rereading. I also wrote a new <a href="http://www.bookmom.wordpress.com">book review</a> (for the Linda Castillo book <b>Sworn to Silence</b>. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!), and fixed dinner ahead of time. When Chris arrived home he started to upload some more of the kids schoolwork to the website of the Curriculum we use. They grade and keep records of everything for us. (For the major tests. The weekly tests-I grade.) Don't ask me why it's taking him so long to do it, if I start I'll never stop focusing on the many things I've asked him to do that don't get done. *sigh* This evening when it cooled down enough, he did start to mow the lawn. He managed to mow about half the yard when he ran out of gas. He said he'd buy some more gas for it and finish tomorrow. We'll see. </div><div>While he was mowing I worked out on the treadmill and when I was done there I finished making dinner. (I made chicken pot pie, with the filling ahead of time and placed everything in the oven when done.) Since then we've watched the new <i>Lifetime </i>series <i>Drop Dead Diva.</i> It's cute and Daughter and I really like it. I hope it does well. </div><div>Anyway, that's it from here. It's been a low-key day and one that has allowed me to recharge a bit. I DO have other household things to take care of, so this is it for me. I hope that y'all had a relaxing and peaceful day. I wish a stress-free and happy Monday.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 56, 2 Power Burns on the treadmill and I stepped up the speed on the jogging a bit. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-7717195226757235748?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-37086558669290157732009-07-11T23:12:00.003-05:002009-07-11T23:35:13.858-05:00Overflowing with boxes!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlljSANFecI/AAAAAAAACuM/ycT7ziVJt_s/s1600-h/DSC00623.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlljSANFecI/AAAAAAAACuM/ycT7ziVJt_s/s320/DSC00623.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357422392677595586" /></a>I can't seem to get rid of a box these days. Each cat wants one of their own! Here is Athena napping in the kitchen in one of the numerous boxes we have. And it wasn't even daylight! Do boxes smell like catnip or something? *G*<div>It's been a another long day here. I couldn't sleep for a long time last night, though I was physically exhausted. I ended up being up 19 hours straight before I could sleep. And then I didn't want to get up this morning. *sigh* For the first time in years my Son woke up before I did! He woke me up and told me "You need to wake up, you're sleeping late.". *G* This from the child that takes forever to not only wake up, but get up and dressed. Chris had to go into work today for a couple of hours. We don't mind, thanks to the Vet bills from the week before last we had to put off purchasing the kids sparring gear until next month. (Ooh, haven't told the teacher that yet. Wish me luck.) The overtime will go towards their gear. And you do NOT want to know my power bill due to the AC and Summer heat. Ugh. After Chris arrived home we headed to Mass, we had a visiting Priest who changed up the usual and threw every one off today. Is it bad that I didn't like him? I think that makes me a bad person. *sigh* After Mass we headed to Marshalls. Chris left his headphones on the dresser the other night over night and one of the cats decided they tasted yummy and broke them. (No they didn't eat them, just left teeth marks and uncovered wire.) Marshalls didn't have any that weren't pink. *g* So we headed to Ross. They didn't have any that we trusted. (We were looking for the same brand and for the same price I had purchased the other pair, $10.). The we looked at Best Buy (all these stores were in the same shopping complex), they had the brand, but they were double what I paid, so they were a no go. Then we tried TJ Maxx. They had the brand, but again they were pink. So, he bought another brand but the same style. Then we headed to another grocery store for some produce (we stopped buying that at WW a long time ago, everything went bad quickly). Then, blessed be, we headed home. I don't know what's going on with pollen or whatever it is that's bugging me, but my sinuses are driving me crazy. </div><div>We made dinner, meaning Chris chopped and I cooked. Chris had his Blackberry (loaded with music he stole from me) on the counter and we were dancing around the kitchen while cooking. Well, okay, Son and I were dancing. Chris was smiling at me and Daughter I am sure wanted new parents. *G* And am now relaxing for a few minutes before I have to dig into the dryer and fold things. *G* </div><div>Oh, I finally finished the 5th Stephanie Plum book. Which is funny because I read number seven before I read this one! I've now started the Linda Castillo book, <b>Sworn to Silence.</b> This is a new-to-me author and I have heard very good things about the book. I am a bit intrigued as it is set in Amish country with a former-Amish woman as the lead Cop in the mystery. The prologue was heart-breaking, I hope I can stick with the book. </div><div>To be honest, that's about it from me today. It's been a rather so-so day. I hope y'all had a relaxing and fun Friday. I wish a restful and peaceful Sunday for y'all. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 55, walking-lots of walking through the stores and through the shopping complex. Please tell me that counts? And *sigh* I'm going to miss Zumba again this weekend (it's only every other weekend). Chris has to go into work for a few more hours tomorrow and there's no Childwatch on Sunday. Oh, well, maybe the treadmill. </div><div><br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-3708655866929015773?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-91810951884503984672009-07-10T21:19:00.003-05:002009-07-10T21:48:45.937-05:00Layla pleads with Chris!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Slf3OMoOoKI/AAAAAAAACuE/8FdsmOzgz6M/s1600-h/DSC00625.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Slf3OMoOoKI/AAAAAAAACuE/8FdsmOzgz6M/s320/DSC00625.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357022105060679842" /></a>This is Layla looking pleadingly on at Chris last night as we had an informal dinner. Notice how she's not only on my chair, but halfway on the table as well! She managed to change the channel before I was able to grab the remote out from under her. *G* <div>Whew! It has been a long, long day. The kids and I were up and ready early for Daughter's Doctor's appointment. Before we left I had to run around starting laundry, putting ice in the coolers for grocery shopping later and vacuumed the house. I grabbed the Janet Evanovich book I'm reading right now (I know, I know, it's taking me forever to get through this one! So much stuff to do, not enough time. Or help.) and we headed out the door. It makes absolute sense then that we actually arrived early for Daughter's appointment, right? And I, had my book, thought I'd have time to read. NO. When is the last time you were early for an appointment and they saw you early? That's right, they called us in early. No problem, I thought. I'll just read while we wait to see the Doctor. (After they placed us in a room after Daughter had her temperature taken and been weighed.) Um, no. The Doctor arrived early. *sigh* But, it turns out she's an Evanovich fan as well. *G* Poor book. It spent the rest of the morning and later sitting on the passenger seat. (It's a hardback, not exactly purse-sized.) After Daughter was pronounced healthy (except for the her overly large tonsils *sigh*) we left with a prescription for antibitiocs (tonsils, again). We then headed to Aldi where we ran into the strange German fellow that's a member of the Y we attend. Then to Sam's Club for more groceries, and then on to WW for the rest. By the time we arrived home I was exhausted. We had left before I was able to eat anything for breakfast and I was also starved. (I made sure the kids ate before we left.) And no, the kids didn't help me with anything. After putting everything away I took care of more laundry, ate lunch and collapsed in my chair. Only to finally turn on my computer and see that the library had two holds in for me AND to the thought that I had forgotten to pick up Daughter's prescription. *sigh* So, we headed back out. I now have two more books. (I KNOW, my library is AWESOME this month! For a change. *G*) <b>Dust to Dust </b>by Heather Graham and <b>Sworn to Silence </b>by Linda Castillo. My bedside table is full and I feel blessed because I can't buy any books right now. *g*</div><div>The I we arrived home and I collapsed into my chair again. The kids have been inside and outside, their friends have also been inside and outside. *g* After Chris arrived home from work we had dinner and I've taken care of yet more laundry (Daughter's this time.) And right now I'm listening to Layla snore. *G* We've watched Eureka together as a family and LOVED it! I adore this show and am so happy it's back! </div><div>It's time for me to head off-line again. I hope y'all had a fun and sunny day. I wish a relaxing and pleasing Saturday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 54. That's it. Besides heavy lifting (when it says 40lbs. of cat litter, it means it, not to mention the two boxes of water and box of cokes for Chris), walking through grocery stores and doing the whole day on 5 hours of sleep. Not bad, eh? </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-9181095188450398467?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-54681550016095508082009-07-09T22:01:00.002-05:002009-07-09T22:22:00.821-05:00Pepper the Wonder Kitten!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlaviIjZR5I/AAAAAAAACt8/6au7AoFLLU0/s1600-h/DSC00626.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlaviIjZR5I/AAAAAAAACt8/6au7AoFLLU0/s320/DSC00626.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356661807750137746" /></a>Pepper is so funny and in her own way very sweet. She's too hyper to want to be a lap baby, and we think the time she lived outside has a bit to do with that as well. However, she is fun to play with and copes very well with what we believe is a sight problem. FIL guided us in a direction today. We know she has some sort of vision problem, especially tracking anything not on the floor. He suggested that she has no depth perception. She more than makes up for her vision issue with her hearing and sense of smell. Daughter wanted to change her name to Sonar last week, but she's already started to recognize her name, Pepper. Y'all will be glad to know that she's gained back the weight she lost last week and is doing well (*knock on wood*) thanks to a good Vet, love and lots of prayers. Oh, and y'all will also be glad to know she's been playing with a couple of the older kitties. Well, playing- harassing, same thing, right? <div><br /></div><div>Today has been boring. I'll admit it. The weather was nice, unfortunately the mosquitos thought so, too. The Out-laws picked the kids up this afternoon and they were back within an hour. The gnats and other bugs bothered them, but we have a quart of fresh picked blackberries sitting in the refrigerator. (MIL has the other quart. *G*) I can guarantee they won't be in there long. The kids have already been into some of them! I did do something today that was kind of selfish. Other than a load or two of laundry and light cleaning (and taking care of dinner) I have rested today. Um, the drainage has had a lot to do with it, but whatever works. Tomorrow is going to be packed with things. Daughter has a Doctor visit tomorrow morning (follow up to a couple of weeks ago), plus we have grocery shopping at a few places to take care of and the library has two more of my holds. I suspect by the time we're done I will want nothing more than to sit down. *G* </div><div><br /></div><div>Reading-wise I'm still reading <b>High Five</b> by Janet Evanovich. I didn't read much today just because I felt a bit dizzy and out-of-step. I hope when we go upstairs and I can take something for it, I'll feel more like reading. </div><div><br /></div><div>That said, it's time for me to head off-line and take care of a few night time chores. I hope y'all had a lovely day. I wish a fun and funny Friday for y'all. On the other side of that bannister is NOTHING but stairs down below. We've had one cat fall off, luckily he landed on his feet. But, I get nervous every time one jumps up there. Midnight and Patches were okay, but Butterscotch freaks us out because he will roll all over. Ack! <div><br /></div><div>To be honest, it's been a pretty boring and slow day. It was overcast and drizzled most the day and then late this afternoon it started to rain. Lightly. I wish we'd get a downpour, but it was still nice today because the weather kept the heat down. And it suited my mood. I've been so tired today that I've been dragging. </div><div>I read the Susan Andersend book that was a reread for me last night. It was nice to read the story and revisit it. I have no idea why I'd been thinking of that book, but it was just as cute as I remember reading it the first time. Right now I'm reading the 5th Stephanie Plum book, though I haven't gotten very far due to laundry and household things. </div><div>Late this afternoon I made Spaghetti and Meatballs so we'd have dinner ready when we arrived home from the Y tonight. When we did get to eat this evening Chris and Daughter loved it. Son still won't eat meatballs, but that's okay. I just wish he'd outgrow this picky eater thing. </div><div>Tomorrow the kids are going blackberry picking with the Out-laws. I'm not sure what I'll do while they're gone. Maybe just rest. *g* But, knowing me, probably not. </div><div>This is it from me. I'm ready to get some sleep and hopefully wake up energized. I hope y'all had a happy Wednesday. I wish an energetic and productive day for y'all (and me! *G*). Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 52, 1 Hour Yoga. Her nickname is "The Stalker" as she likes to follow me around the house, especially upstairs. At night, when we go to bed and are in the bedroom doing all those night time things like brushing teeth, she's there and meowing at me as though she's psycho. We love her anyway. *G*<div><br /></div><div>Another summer day here. Very warm and as it was Tuesday, very busy. I did watch a bit of Michael Jackson's Memorial on tv this afternoon. I wasn't a fan, but still understand the magnitude of his passing to those he touched in some way. We headed to the Y for the kids Martial Arts class and while they were in class, I worked out. I managed to stay on the treadmill, despite giggling like a loon while on there. I was reading <b>Three to Get Deadly </b>by Janet Evanovich and was reading the part where the body flew off the car and onto Lula's and what commenced from there. I KNOW the lady next to me must have thought I was nuts, but those two miles on the treadmill went by FAST. *G* After I was done I waited for the kids (their class ran over) and talked to their teacher after the class. I like their teacher, he's great with the kids and they enjoy his class. But, I swear the man must think his students parents have nothing better to do with their money than to keep shoveling it into something to do with the class! I've already bought their Gi's, their weapons, they tested for Yellow belts (and yeah, that cost money, too) and have also bought mouth cards for both and a cup for Son. Then there's the sparring equipment he wants us to purchase and NOW he wants to hold a mini-tournament in a few weeks and wants the parents to come together and each donate money for Awards/Trophies. This is on top of paying for the class each month. And the sad thing is? He's not a bad guy. He's not keeping any of this money. The kids haven't even been taking the classes for much more than 2 months! Is this normal? *sigh* And btw? We're the only family that the kids have everything. (Well, haven't bought the sparring gear yet.) I would have felt better about all this if the teacher had been upfront with a type of syllabus on what was expected. But, it seems like each week it's something else! I'll get over and I'll calm down, I'm just miffed. </div><div>After the Y we headed to the library where Daughter has her volunteer work. Luckily I had a few books come in and picked up one that I seem to be missing in my Janet Evanovich collection. So, I now have to read (on top of a couple of books from the library from last week): <b>The Princess Plot </b>by Kirsten Boie (a YA and new-to-me author), <b>Getting Lucky </b>by Susan Andersen (I've been thinking about this book for a couple of weeks for some reason, so decided to reread it.), <b>Eve of Darkness </b>by S.J. Day (new-to-me author), <b>Sex, Murder and a Double Latte</b> by Kyra Davis (a new-to-me author), <b>Cover of Night </b>by Linda Howard (a reread for me) and <b>High Five </b>by Janet Evanovich (another reread for me). There aren't that many new books out this month that I want (thank goodness for my non-existent budget) so I feel pretty lucky to have found so many books from the library. Now next month? Well, lets say that there are quite a few books I want that are going to be new releases. But, I have to be good. Think good thoughts that the library gets some of them, okay? *G*</div><div>What about y'all? Anyone reading anything good? Any recommendations to check my library for? *G* </div><div>After the library we headed back to the Y for a class and after dropping the kids in Childwatch I met Chris for the class. Our regular instructor has blown out her knee, so for the past month we've had a Sub. She's a lovely woman, very energetic. *G* And the classes are fun and never the same. Which is nice. Keeps things from getting boring. *G* After class (And I'd sweated a river. Ewwww!) we headed home and Chris made dinner. (What? I made dinner last night, it was his turn.) We also sat and watched the new Sci-Fi (sorry, I refuse to call it by it's idiotic new name) series <i>Warehouse 13. </i>Ooh, I liked it! So did Chris. Can't wait to see the next show AND Eureka is back on Friday (FINALLY!)! YAY! </div><div>Anyway, it's time for me to head upstairs. I hope y'all had a good day. I wish a slightly wacky, but all pleasing Wednesday. Goodnight and Hugs, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 51, Core Exercises with the Balance Ball, 2miles on the treadmill@ 3.8 speed and 4.5 incline, 25 minutes of weight machines and 1 Hour TaeBo class. I don't know if she honestly thought no one could see her, or if she was just happy sitting behind the curtain. I just think it's cute and funny! <div><br /></div><div>It's been another quiet day here. Well, not quiet if you count this afternoon where we had kids playing Hide and Seek inside the house again, then they moved on to Operation and Uno. It was really hot out, so I can't blame them for wanting to play inside, but whew! It got loud! *G* We also had a small issue here today. There have been two kittens that look like Pepper and we did the whole "are these your cats" throughout the entire neighborhood. No one would claim them. We just didn't have the resources or room to take in any more cats so Chris took them to the Humane Society this afternoon. We wrestled with the decision, but knew it would be the best for them. They were friendly and we could have kept feeding them outside, but felt they would be safer at the Humane Society (they were so young and the older strays we feed and were not happy to have them here) and have a chance for real homes with people that could care for them. At least by taking them and making sure the Humane Society knew their story, that they were probably around 7 weeks old, they were friendly, they were cared for at some point-they have a chance to get their inoculations and will be spayed/neutered. So, say a prayer or send good thoughts that those two kitties find a "forever home". I know I am. In similar news: Pepper is fine. She's been acting like her regular self and she has been tracking food all day! *G* She's also been playing and seems happy. I hope the other kitties accept her soon. Though, we do think Oreo was playing with her a bit last night. It looked like they were playing a version of "Kitty Tag". *G* </div><div>Chris took the day off today. He had trouble sleeping last night for some reason and felt so tired this morning that he decided to take the day and rest. It kinda threw my normal rhythm off, but I'm just glad he had time to take. </div><div>We did visit the Y this evening where I had Yoga and Chris worked out. Afterwards we had to run by the grocery store for bread. You'd have thought two loaves would take a family of four through two weeks, but we only made it one week before needing more. </div><div>As for reading, well, I did finish <b>Two for the Dough </b>by Janet Evanovich. It was a fun read. Now I'm reading <b>Three to Get Deadly </b>by the same author. I also have <b>Amazon Ink </b>by Lori Devoti to read. I'm hoping the finish Three tonight or maybe tomorrow afternoon and start on it. You have to admit, the book has an unusual premise. An Amazonian tattoo artist who is trying to track the killer of Amazonian girls and is the lead suspect by both the police and her former Amazonian community. How many books have you seen, or heard of, that contain Amazons? Not many! (Um, and if you had, please leave me titles of such books in the comments, please? *G*)</div><div>Sorry to say that it's been pretty boring around here today. Not much else to share. Allergies are making my life heck right now and I'm hoping we get lots of rain soon to help. *sigh* Anyway, I hope y'all had a productive and pleasant Monday. I wish a happy and smile-filled Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 50, 1 Hour of a GREAT Yoga class. *G* (I know I said I was going to kick up my work-outs, but the allergy thing is making it difficult so far this week. I'm hopeful tomorrow will be better.)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-139160791204693472?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-19647089803415562972009-07-05T22:02:00.002-05:002009-07-05T22:33:46.333-05:00FIL and a "screamer"!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlFqO7M88OI/AAAAAAAACtc/_-0Ob9M1OK8/s1600-h/DSC00611.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SlFqO7M88OI/AAAAAAAACtc/_-0Ob9M1OK8/s320/DSC00611.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355178236562960610" /></a>This picture is from last night. FIL was Chris' helper when launching the fireworks. Here he is holding his ears as a "Screamer" rocket was launched. We called it a screamer because it made a very loud noise as it launched skyward. Even with the noise we had a (wait for it) "Blast". *G* (Sorry couldn't resist.)<div><br /></div><div>Today has been filled with errands (I sent Chris), chores (I took care of those) and kids! We were lucky and it remained overcast all day keeping the heat down. It was nice! *G* Although, thanks to our time outside last night I woke today with the nastiest sinus headache. I swear I felt as though someone were crushing my head. Ugh. Have I mentioned I love ibuprofen? After it kicked in I was personable again and the sound of my own voice could move above a whisper. This afternoon I gave Chris a list of errands to be run and he took off. I didn't want us all to go because I'm still nervous about leaving the kitten alone, though she is doing well. And I also knew the kids wanted to stay home. I didn't run the errands because I had ironing to do. And no, Chris can't iron. Chris isn't allowed to iron. I learn new words when Chris irons. *G* Not to mention it takes him 4x's as long. So, I do it. While I was upstairs ironing the kids and their friends decided to play inside. First it was Operation, then indoor hide-and-seek. They had a blast with that last one. Son is still small enough to fit in interesting places. I was good. I didn't give anyone away. After a while they headed back outside and I started the pork loin we had for dinner. Then I decided to exercise. Chris arrived home and finished dinner while I was exercising. And now after watching a bit of tv (Design Challenge, interesting.) it's time to head upstairs where I can cut Chris' hair. </div><div>As for reading, well, not much was done today due to the headache earlier and then laundry, ironing, cooking and exercising. I am still reading the second installment of the Stepahnie Plum series, though I am about 2 chapters from finishing. After that I will tackle another library book. I think. *G* </div><div>No more from me tonight. It's time to get a few more things done. I hope y'all had a peaceful and restful Sunday. I wish a low-key and pleasant Monday. Pepper, for some reason, decided she wanted to stop the window. *G* I was just glad to see her walking around the kitchen and feeling better. <div>She's feeling lots better today. I spent a couple of hours trying to keep her occupied because she was bored and wanted to play but none of the other kitties will play with her. I hope they accept her soon. </div><div>Today has been fun and quiet. The kids decided to play outside all day leaving me to occupy the kitty. She wanted to play and the other kitties like to pretend she doesn't exist. I know that eventually they will accept her, but it hasn't happened yet and I feel sorry bad for her. </div><div>Chris and I also cooked late this afternoon. The Out-laws called and had decided to come over after we ate instead of eating with us. (MIL still brought coconut cake.) Chris made kabobs and I made squash casserole (which Daughter has eaten almost half of!), we had tomato slices and everything came out well. After we ate and the Out-laws had arrived the kids were excited to get the fireworks going so they had "pop-its" and lit a couple of sparklers. When everyone was ready Chris set off the fireworks on the front driveway and every one sat to watch. After a while the kids thought it would be great fun to chase down where the rockets had landed. I would swear at some point they were having more fun trying to guess where they would land and try and beat each other to them than they did actually watching the fireworks. Several people on our street set off fireworks so it was nice to have not just ours to watch. After a while the Out-laws left and when the fireworks were all gone the kids helped clean up the mess and put things away. Then the neighbor kids went home and our kids are winding down. It's now late and we're ready for bed. </div><div>As for reading? I haven't had much chance today. I've been doing laundry and hovering over the kitten to make sure she's going to be okay. I even set my alarm last night and got up to check on her every 3 hours. Which is making me sleepy now! *G* Anyway, I'm still reading <b>Two for the Dough </b>by Janet Evanovich. </div><div>Anyway, I hope y'all had a festive and happy Independence Day! I wish y'all a Blessed and restful Sunday. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 48. I didn't have time for anything else. I wanted to spend time with the kitten so I played with her instead. BUT, I hope to work out tomorrow. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-386385888333222035?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-41920320679094049812009-07-03T22:35:00.002-05:002009-07-03T23:14:47.155-05:00I need a nap!Layla likes to snooze in front of the kitchen windows. She'll even move my curtains aside so that she gets the full impact of the warm suns rays on her.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Sk7Ohh9XbuI/AAAAAAAACtM/4HWkMQt1wAU/s1600-h/DSC00600.JPG" style="text-decoration: none;"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Sk7Ohh9XbuI/AAAAAAAACtM/4HWkMQt1wAU/s320/DSC00600.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354444082436861666" /></a> I wonder how she keeps from burning up! <div><br /></div><div>It was a long and sleepless night for me last night. Chris stayed up with me for a while, but he just can't stay awake as long as I can. (One of the benefits of having some form of insomnia.) I kept watch over the kitty until I our regular Vet's office opened this morning. After that I woke Chris up and he took Pepper to the Vet's office as a walk-in. (Meaning very long wait time, especially on a Friday that has weird hours.)(I slept for a bit while he was gone.) The Vet ran another parasite test (negative) and gave Pepper barium to see if she were "blocked". He also gave her some fluids and antibiotics. He sent Chris home with instructions that if she didn't pass the barium we'd know it was a blockage and to bring her back in. AND that if she threw up again to bring her back in. Later this afternoon we had proof that she's NOT blocked and she seems to be feeling 85% better. She's been playing instead of sleeping and she has eaten a few morsels of food (Although not much, however it's better than NO food.) and drank water on her own. We are relieved, but cautiously optimistic. I don't want to get my hopes up. I sat and bawled like a baby last night because I couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to the little one. (Not to mention, and not to sound mercurial, but two Vet visits in two days basically means we are going to have to be very careful for the next month. *sigh* And it scared me we wouldn't have enough to fix whatever is wrong with her.) </div><div>Anyway, this afternoon after the kitten came home and seemed/s to be feeling better I have done laundry (and had copious amounts of caffein) and shampooed the carpet for the entire upstairs. Oh, and helped Daughter rearrange her room a bit. Chris took a nap and took the kids shopping for a few fireworks. Then when they arrived back home he and I made dinner. I am now making peanut butter cookies for the kids and their friends for tomorrow. We're following tradition and staying home tomorrow evening and shooting off a few fireworks of our own. The kids and their friends will enjoy the fireworks and sparklers we've bought and hopefully the cookies. *G* MIL and FIL have invited themselves over for dinner tomorrow. (Not sure how that happened. Might have something to do with the fact that we are staying home.) We're going to do beef and chicken kabobs, squash casserole, fresh tomato slices and whatever other veggie I can gather and cook. MIL is bringing a coconut cake. It should be an interesting evening. </div><div>As for reading, surprisingly I have done a lot of that in the past 24-36 hours. It was either read or go crazy imagining. I reread <b>Full Tilt </b>by Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes (it was what I was reading before heading to the library yesterday) and last night I read <b>Finger Lickin' Fifteen </b>by Janet Evanovich. Today I was in the mood for some more Plum fun so I picked <b>Two for the Dough </b>off my keeper shelves. I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but am enjoying it's familiarity already. As for why I'm reading the second book and not the first? I never liked the first book. Weird, I know. </div><div><br /></div><div>That's all from me this evening. It's been a very long day. My last batch of cookies is in the oven and I am heading to do the night time chores so I can get some sleep. I hope y'all had a fun and refreshing Friday. I wish a relaxing and clear 4th of July Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Blessings. Thank you for the prayers. I truly believe they have helped, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 46. That's all. *sigh*</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-4192032067909404981?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-56198838162810423062009-07-02T22:30:00.004-05:002009-07-02T23:24:55.849-05:00The brothers hunt!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Sk180uuFEjI/AAAAAAAACtE/Emc_gYo39WE/s1600-h/DSC00602.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/Sk180uuFEjI/AAAAAAAACtE/Emc_gYo39WE/s320/DSC00602.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354072777349730866" /></a>I took this picture this evening as a fly buzzed around. One reason I dislike this time of year are all the insects. Flies don't last long around here, though. As evidenced by the fellows on my cabinets. I was worried they'd try to swing from my light fixture, but they restrained themselves. <div><br /></div><div>Today has been long, and awful. The kitten is not doing well. We took her to the Vet this afternoon because she started throwing up and having, um, intestinal issues yesterday. When they didn't clear up overnight I had Chris make an appointment at the Benefield Vet near us (since our regular vet is booked so far in advance and we didn't want to have to wait very long). Her appointment was this afternoon and we found that she is about 7 weeks old and is teething. She was treated for parasites (even though they couldn't find any) and we were told that should clear up the intestinal issues. She's still been playful, but tiring quickly, though she seems to have no appetite. She seemed fine when we arrived home and I gave her the medicine the Vet gave us for the parasites. We watched her, but she seemed fine so we went about our normal evening, with a quick trip to the library to pick up a book that had come in for me, <b>Finger Lickin' Fifteen </b>by Janet Evanovich and while there I also picked up <b>Girls of Summer</b><b> </b>by Barbara Bretton. We arrived back home and made dinner. Not very long after dinner was over the "fine" stopped. She's throwing up again and still has her "intestinal issues". We've done the skin test and she is now being force-fed liquids with a dropper until our normal Vet opens in the morning. (Meaning it's going to be a long night.) I don't know how she worked her way into my heart so quickly but I am absolutely panicked. I don't know what's going to happen. So, I'm asking y'all again to say a prayer, for little Pepper. I'm a mass of stressed out emotions right now. Lack of sleep already coupled with today's stresses and hormones means I am a wreck. I'm just hoping for the best. </div><div>That said, this is it for me tonight. I need to keep an eye on the kitten. I hope y'all had a better day than we have had. I wish an enjoyable and love-filled Friday for y'all. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: I am so stressed out and it's been a bad day. I've had no time and feel like snot, so nothing beyond Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 46 (done this morning). </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-5619883816281042306?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-60410048199907918562009-07-01T21:38:00.002-05:002009-07-01T21:59:33.273-05:00Layla almost begs for attention!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkweNXtnPOI/AAAAAAAACs8/gGe60bdfuWk/s1600-h/DSC00586.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkweNXtnPOI/AAAAAAAACs8/gGe60bdfuWk/s320/DSC00586.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353687272089140450" /></a>No cat would lower themselves enough to beg, but Layla comes pretty close with this pose. This is her "look at me!" pose. It's a trap, though. If you bend over and think she wants you to per her tummy? Think again! She want's to play! Which is basically grabbing my hand and batting her feet against me while she bites my hand (Not hard, never enough to break skin, she knows.). <div><br /></div><div>Today has been exhausting. Only by pure will-power have I been able to get through the day without sitting in my chair all day. I think the new class caught up with my coupled with the extra work-outs I've been doing. So, today, I powered through. I did manage to make it to the post office and grocery store today. And I have done load after load of laundry, vacuumed the entire house (I hate wall-to-wall carpeting.) and then decided to shampoo the carpets downstairs. I'll do the upstairs tomorrow. I packed the kids up and headed to the Y this evening. Chris came up there and worked out while I was in Yoga class. Then we all headed home where I made dinner. I'm really liking those steamer-bags that are in the freezer section. Fast and healthy! *G* After dinner I was bad and had some ice cream (chocolate chocolate chip *G*), well, not too bad since it was one of those 1/2 the fat ones. Yummy! </div><div>I'm still reading <b>Secondhand Spirits </b>today. It's slow going because I've been running around taking care of everything else. I did read <b>Killer Hair</b> again and enjoyed it, though found myself comparing it to the Movie! I really like the actress they chose for the movie, she fits the character well. </div><div>Not much else to share. I burned myself making cookies on Sunday, turned out to be a second degree burn. It's healing well, but today the top started to crack and OUCH. I'm a wimp, so I've been keeping it covered with first aid ointment. This pose is for him a daily pose. This is his resting pose. To me? He looks like he needs the remote and a cold drink and he's set, you know? *G* And don't be fooled, this is a BIG cat. He weighs 16-17 lbs.. *g* Why yes, we do feed the kitties Miracle Grow! *G* <div><br /></div><div>I could say it's been a slow day, but it really didn't feel like it. Tuesdays are turning out to be packed! Luckily there was no laundry to do today. I admit. I was lazy for the first part of the day. I haven't been sleeping well (not able to fall asleep and then waking up all night) and while I fell asleep pretty easily last night (thanks to the benedryl I had to take for a stuffed up nose) I did wake up a lot so felt tired. The kids seemed to agree with me because they lazed around inside today instead of running outside as soon as they'd eaten! *g* This afternoon the busyness began. I drove the kids to Martial Arts and worked out while they were in class, then we headed to the library, then turned back around and headed back to the Y because there was a class I wanted to try and if I don't go to the Y when Chris gets off work he won't go work out and he needs to work out. It's funny, we don't even have to be in the same area of the Y, but he seems to need by presence there. *G* I'll do whatever it takes for him to work-out, so I don't mind too much. The class? Basic Step and it KICKED MY BUTT! Literally, I fell off the step. Well, not off it, but I fell onto the floor and my tush. No worries I am fine, though wondering if I'm going to have to beg the kids to help me get out of bed tomorrow! *G*</div><div>Oh, at the library I picked up: <b>Amazon Ink </b>by Lori Devoti, <b>The Power of Two </b>by Patti O'Shea, <b>Bronze Mystique </b>by Barbara Delinsky, and <b>My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters </b>by Sydney Salter (this one is a YA and a debut author as well). Three of these are new-to-me authors and I haven't read many Barbara Delinksy books, so I'm looking forward to reading them. Oh, and right now I am still reading <b>Secondhand Spirits </b>by Juliet Blackwell. </div><div>After finishing my Step class I picked the kids up from Childwatch and we waited for Chris to finish (he was running late tonight). After he was done we headed home where we made the easiest dinner ever, Chicken baked with Long Grain and Wild Rice. Very yummy, very easy. I add peas to it as well (have to get those veggies into the kids!) and tonight I ate some cold tomato slices with mine. YUM. *g* </div><div><br /></div><div>That's all from my neck of the woods. (*G* Had to pop in a Southern saying. *G*) I hope y'all had a pleasing and easy day. I wish an enjoyable and snappy Wednesday. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B. </div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: 2 miles on the treadmill and 25 minutes weight machines, 1 Hour Step Aerobic Class (Ouch!), Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 44. </div><div><br /></div><div>P.S. Yeah, Layla is lying on it! And FYI, it's really, really hard to type or scroll when your hand starts to go numb because she was comfy and I didn't have the heart to make her move. *G* Also? I think she's starting to become addicted to the internet! *G* And yeah, there are books on top of the refrigerator. There are books all over my house, aren't they all over at yours? *G* Oh, and Layla IS wearing not only a sparkly collar with a bell (She likes sparklies, what girl doesn't?), but a St. Francis medal as well. <div><br /></div><div>Not much going on here today. I didn't sleep well. To be honest I was glad it was Monday, so I could relax a tad. I'm not sure why but the weekends always feel so busy! I decided today to kick up my work-outs a tiny bit, so before heading off to yoga this afternoon I popped on the treadmill. I'm hoping it helps, because no matter what I do I can't lose weight. And no, I haven't had many of the cookies I made yesterday, either. </div><div>Chris had a sinus headache, so didn't go to the Y tonight and when the kids arrived home he and I made dinner together. I like the schedule he's on now because we seem to have more time together to do things like that. We've also watched The Closer tonight and both cracked up laughing! It was a great episode. *G* </div><div>I finished reading the Kay Hooper book last night and today have started <b>Second Hand Spirits </b>by Juliet Blackwell. I haven't gotten very far, other things like laundry have taken precedence, but so far so good. I can tell you it weirded me out a bit because the premise is very similar to a book I read 6 months ago. Like, freakishly similar. But, so far it's started completely different and I like it. </div><div>As for Daughter, please read the post below. But, if you don't have time? Everything was negative. Blessed be! Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts! </div><div>That's about it from here. It's been a slow news day. Thank goodness! I hope y'all had a nice day and I wish a happy and smile-filled Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 43, 2 Power Burns on the treadmill (20 minutes each of varying speeds and inclines), and 1 Hour Yoga. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-3082203913347593441?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-65956630870052633272009-06-29T15:45:00.003-05:002009-06-29T16:07:02.284-05:00UPDATE!!!!! Daughter's test resuts! (Part 2)Just wanted to let y'all know, because of the support and good wishes you've shown us, that Daughter's test results were negative across the board. According to the tests run she is negative for Strep (both kinds), negative for viral arthritis, negative for human Parvo virus (I know, weird name, I automatically think dog when I hear Parvo.) and anything else they tested her for. We've been encouraged to go ahead and have her follow-up with the ENT in July and she'll have another follow up with the regular Doctor in July to see how things are going. As of this minute, Daughter has had no pain in her joints for almost a week now and is back to her usual attitude-y teenage self. I never thought I'd say it but THANK GOD for a cranky teenager! *G* <div>Thank you for your prayers and good wishes and thoughts. I truly think they helped. I send each of you Blessings!</div><div>B.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-6595663087005263327?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-76311372200373783222009-06-28T22:20:00.003-05:002009-06-28T22:49:44.827-05:00Patches and her owl impression!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkgzdNjuxiI/AAAAAAAACsk/S1QSDzpvuaM/s1600-h/DSC00591.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkgzdNjuxiI/AAAAAAAACsk/S1QSDzpvuaM/s320/DSC00591.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352584734078584354" /></a>Daughter likes to call this Patches' Great Horned Owl impersonation. I like how the kitties ears move around like satellites. *G* Would you believe every time I tried to get a picture of Patches' ears like this she would either turn away or would be normal. It took a LONG time before I could catch her. *G*<div><br /></div><div>It's been a low-key and somewhat busy day. We had many things around here to take care of. Some was accomplished. Chris replaced an electric outlet in Daughter's room. It had been making her night-light blow out quickly. He also mowed the lawn for me! YAY! I didn't have to mow the lawn! *G* I managed to tackle the ironing and some laundry and I also made white chocolate (Why do they call it that? It isn't chocolate!) macadamia nut cookies. Turns out Son and I are the only ones who are big fans. *sigh* I sent half across the street to the kids friends house and I'll keep another small plate before sending the rest to work with Chris. (The recipe made A LOT!) But, at least I tried a new to us recipe. (My kids are so staid in their cookie tastes, they always request chocolate chip or home made vanilla wafers.) After finishing with the cookies I vacuumed the house and fixed dinner. It's been pretty boring here, but busy. </div><div>Chris is gearing up to call the Doctor's office in the morning. We want to know what's going on. Although, Daughter hasn't had any more joint pain for at least 4 days now. I don't want to celebrate that (don't want to invite trouble), but I am relieved. </div><div><br /></div><div>In my reading world I am almost finished with <b>Rebel Waltz</b> by Kay Hooper. You can tell it's a rerelease because it's lighter in tone and sweeter than most of todays romances. Personally, I'm enjoying it. I find a good bit of today's contemporary releases to be heavier (and, um, more illicit) and sometimes I just want a change. Then again, I'm just happy regular contemporary's are still written and released! How about you? What are your thoughts on today's contemporary's? </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, these are my thought's tonight. It's time for me to head off-line. I hope y'all had a peaceful and restful Sunday. I wish a productive and stress-free Monday for y'all. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-DAY 42, Core Exercises with Balance Ball. Either that, or we've forgotten already what it's like to have a kitten. She bounce, pounces, jumps and chases.... everything. *G* And already she has found a place in our hearts. (Sorry about the fuzziness of this picture, she never sits still!)<div><br /></div><div>Today was busy and tiring. The heat was horrible and the humidity just sucked what little energy I had. Especially after not sleeping last night. We picked up my prescriptions and headed to Mass. On the interstate on our way there we were speeding along and Chris and I were chatting when I noticed a kitten, no more than maybe 5-6 weeks old, creeping along the outer edges getting way too close to the road for my comfort. I told Chris and since we had already gone too far past to stop, he headed to the next exit and we turned around. I don't know what we were going to do when we got there, but I could not just pass by and let that kitten get run over. I had tears in my eyes, hoping that when we got off at the other exit and started back the kitten would be safe. We pulled just past and I jumped out. The kitten was still there and I looked for the mother. No mother, no other kitten. *sigh* I started to slowly walk toward the kitten but it became spooked and headed into the woods on the side of the road. While I would have liked to have caught it and found a shelter or rescue organization for it, at least it was no longer near the blacktop of the interstate. That's all we could hope for. And so, we headed on, me saying a silent prayer for safety for the kitten. My heart breaks for these animals, that some people seem to think are of no more importance than a nuisance. Chris is the same. What other husband would have turned around, even though it meant we were running behind? </div><div>Afterwards we started on errands. I asked if we could visit BAMM today and since there was another store in the same arrangement of stores we decided to visit one that carried baskets, outdoor furniture and other odds and ends. We hadn't been in there in almost two years and now we know why. I whispered to Chris as we headed back to the exit that this place is where everything other stores can't sell go to die. We walked up to the sporting goods store. The kids needed mouth guards for their Martial Arts class, they'll be sparring soon. We enjoyed our look-through of the store and Daughter now has a pink mouth guard and Son has a black one. *G* While there we looked at "cups" for Son. He needs one for sparring as well. And I? Am, um, a bit freaked out about that. So, I did what any freaked out Mom might do. I made Chris pick one out. Then I noticed the price. I KNEW it would be cheaper some where else. So, we just bought the mouth guards and headed to BAMM. We all enjoyed a look through the store and I left with three books: <b>Second Hand Spirits </b>by Juliet Blackwell, <b>I Shot You Babe </b>by Leslie Langtry and <b>Killer Hair </b>by Ellen Byerrum. The last is a reread for me (from about five years ago), but neither local library systems have it and when I was at the UBS the last time they didn't have a copy, either. </div><div>After all that we walked back to the jeep and headed to Target where we picked up the cleaning supplies that WW doesn't carry. Then we headed home and we were VERY glad to walk in and pop our shoes off. *G* By this time Son was dying to try on his "cup" and then proceeded to hit himself in that area repeatedly to test it. I. Cracked. Up! *G* </div><div>As for reading? Last night I only meant to take a look at the Tanya Huff book I picked up at the library. I fully intended to finish reading <b>Rebel Walt </b>by Kay Hooper, but once I started <b>The Enchanted Emporium</b> I couldn't put it down. *G* I finished the book late last night and while I found much of it outside my own belief system, it was a great book. I hope this is the beginning of a new series. I enjoyed it and am already thinking of rereading it before it has to go back to the library. There was magic, love, mystery and fantasy all rolled into one book. If you enjoy Fantasy or Urban Fantasy then you need to read this book! Next up, I hope to finish the Kay Hooper book and then the books I picked up from BAMM today. </div><div><br /></div><div>That said, or rather, typed. It's time for me to get some sleep. I hope y'all had a relaxing and pleasant day. I wish a peaceful and joyful Sunday. Goodnight, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 41. Granted, she didn't pose and smile for me. *G* Doesn't she look pretty? Her fur looks rough, but is cotton soft. <div><br /></div><div>Today started off slowly. I waited and waited for the Doctors office to call and give us the test results. Only. They never called. I knew the office was open until noon today, so I waited around until then to start my day. I'm perturbed that they didn't call. But, at the same time I am wondering if no news is good news. *sigh* So, we waited and when the time passed I poked and prodded the kids to get out of here and get my errands done. We visited the library first where I picked up a Hold that had come in. I now have <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">The Enchantment Emporium</span> by Tanya Huff. Yay! After the library I bought some fuel and then we headed for the next city over to get our grocery shopping done. We made it to Aldi, Sam's Club (where I picked up a pair of shorts for Daughter) and WW. I wish I could say I was done, but WW did not have the cleaning products I use so I need to visit Lowes tomorrow. *sigh* Did I mention it was HOT today? With out heat index we hit 103 degrees, by noon. Bleh! I was sweating carrying everything from the stores to the jeep. And when we arrived home I did it in reverse to the house. (With no help from the kids. They saw their friends and it was BYE MOM!) Good thing I had carried two coolers and some ice with me today for our frozen and cold things. I was SO glad to be done and sit down. </div><div>Oh, as for reading! I am currently reading <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Rebel Waltz</span> by Kay Hooper. It is a rerelease and quite sweet, but not too sweet. I like the inclusion of ghosts, especially since it is set in the South at a Southern Plantation, oh and it's a contemporary. *G* </div><div><br /></div><div>That's my busy day. Full of frustration and yet calmness in having errands and taking care of them. Tomorrow will be yet another full day. Poor Chris. I hope he can keep up. *G* Anyway, I hope y'all had a great Friday. One filled with good friends, fun times and fabulous books. I wish a relaxing, laughter filled and enjoyable Saturday for y'all. Goodnight and Hugs, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Day off from everything but Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 40. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-8074607044688949556?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-24111538943297204862009-06-25T21:34:00.004-05:002009-06-25T22:36:56.013-05:00Cat naps must be fun!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkQ0SkCKtjI/AAAAAAAACsM/97vM77com5Q/s1600-h/DSC00572.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkQ0SkCKtjI/AAAAAAAACsM/97vM77com5Q/s320/DSC00572.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351459750738048562" /></a>I thought this picture was absolutely funny, as I took it yesterday I was so tired I wanted to change places with Layla. It must be nice to nap where ever you want, including my couch! Can you believe she slept there while I dusted all the furniture around her? (With a spray scented with orange! Cats don't like citrus!) Awwww, she looks so sweet when she's asleep. *G*<div><br /></div><div>MIL picked up the kids today and took them to see Transformers 2. While she was gone with them I worked out and finished my Jen Lancaster book. (I didn't read last night, I was too tired.) I also finished the Angie Fox book, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">The Accidental Demon Slayer</span>. The ONLY problem I had with the book was the references to eating animals I am more likely to feed in the park. *g*  </div><div><br /></div><div><p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica"><img src="webkit-fake-url://0CFB8BE2-83E6-4CEE-B14B-6D32CC5AEF93/blog-deserves-shot+from+selby.jpg" alt="blog-deserves-shot+from+selby.jpg" />   </p><p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica"><br /></p><p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica"><a href="http://www.rottie-mom.blogspot.com/">Anne-Katherine</a> Has graced me with an award that I think was quite nice of her. Daughter was born not much later and was very upset, yet the minute they laid her on my chest she quieted down. They'd take her away to measure and weigh her and she'd cry. They'd bring her back to me and she'd quiet. I swear my heart grew that night. Not to mention, I was able to choose her birthdate! How many mom's can say that? </p><p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica"><br /></p><p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica">3. She said he was orange and thinks he's a toad. Anyone know for sure? He stayed on our front porch until he was scared off by Tiger. *G*<div><br /></div><div>It's been a very long day. I've had about 3.5 hours sleep because I was worried about the test results due this morning. I was right to be worried.  I am literally quaking inside. The trip to the Doctor for another round of blood tests doesn't make me feel any better. In fact it makes me even more worried. The Doctor tried reassuring me that if a kid is REALLY sick, you can tell. But, I know that's a lie. Or, rather a misdirection. The Doctor seems to think it has to do with Daughter's tonsils and the fact that even with antibiotics they didn't go back to normal. (Even Daughter says that right now she thinks the Doctor would blame a headache on her tonsils.) The Doc feels they are hiding an infection within them. Daughter's white blood cells are normal, again, according to the Doctor.Oh, and it looks good that the ibuporfen is helping and Daughter isn't as sore in her joints. (She even played outside all afternoon.) So, I don't know what to think. Please, PLEASE pray for good results for the blood tests. Please. </div><div>I'm trying to be normal around here. So, we went about our day normally after arriving home from the Doctors office. I polished the furniture (And the bannisters, the kitties better watch out! What? I didn't do it on purpose, it was by rote.), did laundry, emptied the dishwasher and after a couple of hours started a roast for dinner. I wanted it cooked and refrigerated before heading to the Y for Yoga. Speaking of which, guess who took Yoga with me this evening? No, not Chris. No, not Daughter. SON! He did pretty well for his first ever Yoga class, though he had a few problems with right and left. *G* He was so cute. He ended up taking a small break and then came back and finished the class. Even the teacher told him he did well. *G* Daughter sat in the back of the class and watched, well, and read a book. While all that was going on Chris arrived from work and worked out while we were in class. Then we all trooped home, finished making dinner and have had a semi-relaxing evening. That's it from me. I am exhausted. I have a lot more to do before bed. So, I'm heading to get it done. </div><div>I hope y'all had a good day. One filled with laughter. I wish a Thursday filled with friends, family and happiness. Goodnight and Sweet Dreams, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 38, 1 Hour Yoga. </div><div>P.S. Daughters test results!tI received a call early this morning from the Doctor's office. Daughter's test results are negative for RA, however her red blood cell sedimentation rate was high, indicating inflammation of some sort. They wanted her to come back in for more tests and I agreed to Friday. However, after worrying over it and freaking myself out by googling the test results I had Chris call back and we went in this morning. They are running more tests, but the Doctor seems to think that there is some kind of infection that is causing the inflammation, though Daughter's white blood cell count is normal. Especially given that the ibuprofen seems to be working. The Doc thinks that Daughter's tonsils are behind everything, that they are holding an infection within themselves and will need to come out sooner rather than later. HOWEVER, I am still freaked out after seeing what COULD be happening.(The Doc couldn't rule any of it out, just saying to me that when kids are <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">that</span> sick, they show it.) None of it good, all of it scary. We'll know the test results sometime Friday and I would appreciate your prayers and good thoughts for Daughters right now. Thanks! <div><br /></div><div>In the meantime, Daughter is to continue taking the ibuprofen and I'm to let her continue and resume her regular activities. </div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/14615132-7153198527958012655?l=bookmom.blogspot.com'/></div>Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02738504696243512495brandyj1181@yahoo.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14615132.post-34405178346399523692009-06-23T21:48:00.002-05:002009-06-23T22:51:26.512-05:00Crazy Kitten and a Meme!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkGUNN3TemI/AAAAAAAACr8/LiDU-S7yUtY/s1600-h/DSC00564.JPG"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 303px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CvVNjhNAxec/SkGUNN3TemI/AAAAAAAACr8/LiDU-S7yUtY/s320/DSC00564.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350720787073694306" /></a>Pepper is truly fitting in around here, as she is just as wacko as the the other kitties. The kids had Shotokan today and things went well. Daughter is responding to the increased ibuprofen dosage and was able to participate. I even took video of her using the Sai's for Chris since he never gets to watch their classes. We visited the library afterwards so she could do her volunteer work. Then we headed back for TurboKick for Chris and I. Then home, showers and a simple dinner later and a bit of relaxing and we're getting ready to head upstairs. I hope y'all had a productive and enjoyable Tuesday. I wish a blessed and energetic Wednesday for y'all. The kitties loved Daughter's sash so much that they didn't want to share. *G* Here Butterscotch looks as though he's wanting to know when his turn to play with the sash is. *G*Fireball looks as though he doesn't want to give it up anytime soon. <div>By the time we went to bed last night Daughter was feeling pretty achey, so I had Chris call and make her an appointment for today. This afternoon I took her (and Son with us) to the Doc's office where she was examined. They are going to run a bunch of tests on the blood they took (Daughter's first time. Poor thing. They couldn't even find a vein at first! I had to distract her with a book. *G* She's definitely my Daughter.) . I felt like we weren't really listened to, as the Doc kept asking about the symptoms for Fifth's disease. Um, no, no sore throat, no headache, no fever no RASH. The big symptom for it is a RASH. Daughter does not have a rash, nor has she had one. *sigh* But, at least they are going to test her for RA, RA factor's, Lupos, Crohn's disease (WTheck?) and a few other immuno-things. After noting how Daughter's hands, wrists and ankles are now painful she told us to basically up the amount of ibuprofen we're giving her and that was it. *sigh* We're supposed to hear something about the test results on Wednesday. Cross your fingers that Daughter feels better soon, please. After the Doc's office we made a very quick trip to J.C. Penny where I had to pick up Son a new pair of flip-flops. He wanted the exact same kind he has had and his old ones almost had holes. Luckily they were on sale and we were in and out in under 10 minutes. Then, home. Tomorrow the kids have Martial Arts, but I'm not sure Daughter will be participating. However, Son will be. Oh, and to distract Daughter I let her study the cover and read the back blurp and first few pages of the first Angie Fox book, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">The Accidental Demon Slayer</span>. I was carrying the book in my purse and knew Daughter needed a distraction. She was freaking herself out. And no, I won't be letting her read the whole book. I knew the first few pages were funny and didn't really have anything she couldn't see/read, but am restricting the rest of the book. I want to reread it. *g*</div><div>Tomorrow is fast approaching, so I'm headed off. It's been a hectic day and we all need some rest. I hope y'all had a nice and low-key Monday. I wish a pleasant and smile-filled Tuesday for y'all. Goodnight and God Bless, B.</div><div><br /></div><div>Exercise: Melissa's Crossfit Challenge #2-Day 36, Balance Ball Exercises, 1 Hour Yoga. The kids had sashes they wore during the week for VBS to represent the different "houses" they belonged to in Ancient Rome. *G* Daughter's was lavender and Son's was orange. Here aer Butterscotch (at the bottom) and Fireball (on my chair) playing with Daughter's sash while Midnight looked on. No, the kitties didn't play with the whoopi cushion that Son left on the floor. *G*<div><br /></div><div>Today was pretty normal. Granted, it was Father's day and the kids and I didn't forget Chris. He appreciated his gift and cards. I have done more laundry today, ironed, vacuumed and picked up around here. There's been no reading. *sigh* Hopefully, I can find time for that tonight at bedtime. We did run out and pick up a new collar for Pepper. It's pink with a silver stripe. *g* And was worth it to watch her try and get it off. She'll stand on her hind legs and try and use her front paws to swipe at it (only she's missing and hitting her face). She loses her balance and then falls over backward. And for the first few minutes she wore it she walked as though she were drunk. *G* But, now we don't have the "where is the kitten?" freak out. Because the new collar? Has a bell.
