The exceptional EMAC (Extended Multiplication and Accumulation) processor started with the development of the best possible reverb, delay and modulation algorithms the Mackie engineers could devise. These algorithms are backed by a powerful 32-bit effects processor that is much better than the jangling 16-bit processors found on most other "effects" mixers available today.

All CFX.mkII mic/line channels have unbalanced inserts and input trim controls with individual Zero Level LEDs, 3-band EQ with swept midrange, and 100Hz low-cut filters. Each channel strip has a 60mm long-taper fader, one external, and one internal/external effects send; plus two aux sends, pan, mute, solo (PFL), and bus assigns. All three models allow two separate stage monitor mixes to be created with their own effects levels.

Like the original CFX Series mixers, the CFX.mkII Series mixers are designed for rugged, day-in and day-out road use. Their sturdy-yet-light steel construction houses rugged, double-sided SMT-plated fiberglass circuit boards as well as faders with ultra-tight lip seals for keeping out dust and other contaminants. The new Onyx-style knobs are mounted so that they ride just above the steel chassis and absorb impact without transferring damage to the internal components.

Vastly Superior XDR2™ Mic Preamps
Our new XDR2 (Extended Dynamic Range) second-generation mic preamps are better than ever. They offer incredibly low noise, with individual mic pre THD below 0.0007%, and overall mixer THD less than 0.0025%. With 60dB of available gain per channel, the 1642-VLZ3 can handle inputs ranging from a whisper to a scream, and can even handle hot line-level signals up to +22db, without any added coloration. You simply won't find preamps this good on any other mixer in this price range.

Three Kinds Of Channel Strips
1. Channels 1–8 are essentially the same as those on Mackie's 1604-VLZ3, with mono line-level input and Mackie's ultra-high-quality XDR2 mic preamps. These VLZ (Very Low Impedance) mic pres offer superior sound quality and the best RFI rejection of any compact mixer on the market.

2. Channels 9/10 and 11/12 (two physical channel strips) each provide a stereo pair of line-level inputs and a mono XDR2 mic preamp.

3. Channels 13/14 and 15/16 (also in two physical channel strips) each provide a stereo pair of line-level inputs only, with fixed 4-band equalization at points that are specifically designed for line-level inputs, such as keyboards, sound modules, etc.

Two Unique Equalization Formats
High-quality equalization is a must for any good mixer, that's why Mackie didn't cut any corners on the 1642-VLZ3. Channels 1-8 feature the same world-renowned 3-band Active equalization that you'll find on the 1604-VLZ3. Tremendous resources went into optimizing the center points of these mic channel equalizers, with the Lows at 80Hz and the Highs at 12kHz. Midrange compensation is handled by a peaking control with a two-octave variable frequency center. This means the Mids can be swept from 100Hz all the way up to 8kHz—with a boost or cut of 15dB.

Mackie designed a fixed 4-band, "musically-correct" EQ for the remaining channels, which are primarily intended for line-level signals, such as keyboards, sound modules, and drum machines. This all adds up to practical, useful equalization, with the tone-shaping facility to actually improve the musical nature of the original signal.

Professional Features
The Mackie 1642-VLZ3 mixer is packed with premium features on every channel: 75Hz Low-Cut filters, four Aux Sends, inserts, phantom power, constant-loudness Pan controls, OL (overload) and signal present LEDs, sub and main mix assign switches, and assignable AFL/PFL Solo switch. All VLZ3 mixers are built tough. Mackie's legendary solid-steel chassis can take the kind of abuse that would turn Mackie's competitors' flimsy boxes into so much scrap. And instead of cheap, unsealed potentiometers, Mackie use co-molded pots, which offer substantial strain relief at all critical points. By design, Mackie's control knobs "ride" just above the surface of the chassis, so if something heavy falls onto the mixer, the impact is transferred from the knobs to the steel chassis—not to the potentiometers or circuit board. Finally, to eliminate potential circuit board damage, Mackie use a thick, horizontally mounted fiberglass PC board, braced with a shock-absorbing support structure. Perkins EQ: "British" Sound with Greater Filter Control
In developing EQ circuitry for Onyx, Mackie enlisted the aid of veteran audio engineer Cal Perkins. (For those of you who don't know Cal, he's been designing amazing audio gear since Greg Mackie was swiping copies of Popular Mechanics.) As a result of Cal's expertise, Perkins EQ circuitry takes the classic Wein Bridge circuit topology used in British mixing desks during the '60s and '70s, and gives it greater filter and phase shift control. The end result is a very effective and extremely musical 4-band EQ with sweepable low- and high-mids -perfect for the throes of live sound mixing.

Assignable Onboard Stereo Compressor / Limiter Section
Sound engineers have long used master compressor/limiters to smooth out live sound mixes, maximizing the performance of both great and not-so-great sound systems. So Mackie decided to integrate a high-quality master compressor/limiter chip from THAT Corporation into both the Onyx 24.4 and 32.4. This assignable analog stereo compressor/limiter chip was designed and manufactured in the US by veteran analog engineers, offering true RMS Detection and Auto Make-up Gain for extremely accurate and musical results. It features independent Threshold, Ratio and Fast/Slow Attack controls, and can be assigned post-fader to the L/R main mix (for system limiting and protection) or pre-fader to Group 1 / 2 or 3 / 4 outputs (for grouped signal compression, like drums or background vocals). This reduces the hassle and expense of separate outboard processing.

The Onyx 4-Bus Series Master Section
The Onyx 4-Bus Series Master section provides everything you'd expect from a Mackie mixing console, and more. Designed with a practical and easy to understand layout, anyone from a Sunday morning volunteer operator to a seasoned professional engineer can quickly learn to operate the console, fully exploiting its outstanding capabilities.

Balanced Mic/Line Direct Outputs
On the rear of each Onyx console are DB-25 female connectors (in groups of eight), which can be used to route all mic/line signals to an external device. These connectors are configured with standard Tascam pin outs. All of these balanced direct outputs are pre-fader and switchable via internal jumpers as either pre- or post-EQ. These outputs are ideal for multi-track live recording.

Plus, Aux inserts for adding graphic EQs to monitor mixes. Bustin' with Analog I/O
Affordable digital consoles have historically been developed as production mixers, with live features added as an afterthought. As such, they are notoriously limited in terms of mic channels and outputs. The TT24's rear panel, however, is bustin' with analog I/O: 24 mic/line channels, 8 line inputs, 2 CD/Tape inputs, Talkback Mic input, L/R & C (mono) Main outputs, 12 Auxiliary sends, and 8 Group/Matrix outputs. DSP Where You Need It
The TT24 team spent a great deal of time figuring out a way to access and apply all of the TT24's onboard DSP power in a way that's practical, intuitive, and fast enough for live sound. All 24 mic inputs all have 4-band EQ, Comp/Limiter, and Gate available within two button presses; and the 8 line inputs have the 4-band EQ as well. Flex Groups: A TT Exclusive
The TT24's Flex Groups consist of 8 groups individually configurable as mono, stereo or VCA-style groups with dedicated group faders. You can tailor these groups specifically for your application, whether its traditional analog-style Mono groups, Stereo groups on a single fader, or VCA groups -a feature not available on any console, digital or analog, at this price. Of course, the Flex Group faders are in addition to the 24 channel faders to avoid bank switching during normal operation.

Aux Mode: Instant Monitor Console
Using Aux mode, the TT24 can be turned into a full-featured professional monitor console with a single button press. (To make things easy, we made Aux Mode the only blue button on the console.) In Aux mode, the TT24 channel faders become Aux Send levels, while Group faders become Aux Send masters. This makes the TT24 a great front-of-house console or an ideal monitor mixing console depending on your application.

What is Matrix Plus
This is where things get jiggy. The TT24's Matrix Plus is a type of digital patching not possible with analog consoles. Basically, it lets you patch any source into the Matrix, providing you with additional sub-mixes for cry rooms, green rooms, broadcast, recording and monitoring. So the next time you need to run another mix, it's not a problem.

TT Control Software
The TT24 ships with Mackie's powerful TT Control software, which can be used to control and monitor the console using a laptop or desktop PC. Once connected via a single USB cable, TT Control software provides a large, full-color view of the TT24's touchscreen. In addition to providing a larger view, the TT Control software's interface was designed with daylight usage in mind (i.e. Mackie used Black lines on White backgrounds or bright Yellow text on Black backgrounds). In default setting, the TT24's LCD screen is mirrored in the in the software, making it easy to keep your hands on the control surface with your eyes on the computer monitor. But the software can also be set up to operate independently of the console if a second engineer is working. Additionally, TT Control allows for convenient file saving and
firmware upgrades via PC.
