The match result was a triumph for Elm Mount. Michal drew with Joe Noone of Celbridge on board 1 and the rest of the team (David, Zygis, Ray, Ciaran, Oliver and Alan) all won. The match score was Elm Mount 3.5 Rathmines B 1.5 with 2 adjourned (1 slightly better, 1 clearly worse).

Michal Zacharek was unable to break through a blocked position where each player had 2 knights and 2 rooks. Zygis had a relatively quick draw. David agreed a draw in an extremely complicated position where neither player could work out what to do. Ray had another quick win. Gerry is adjourned in an ending with the advantage of 2 bishops v bishop and knight plus a better pawn structure. Oliver won when his opponent blundered after 3.5 hours play. Alan is adjourned 2 pawns down with queens and a pair of rooks left on the board.

Update
The Windebank v Quinn game was drawn. Our round 2 match has still one ongoing adjournment. Round 3 had us playing against Kilkenny. For this match we needed one substitution. With six games played on Saturday 22nd October, we shared the honours with the match standing at 3-3. Game 7 was played on Monday and resulted in an unfortunate loss for us. The match now stands at 4-3 for Kilkenny

Final standing from round 3
Our last game was played by the newest member to the team, Ray Hearty, who is back after spell away from the club. Playing on board 5 the game finished in a draw. This leaves the final score from round 3 - Elm Mount"B" 3½ Kilkenny 4½.

Round 2 final result
The last outstanding adjournment from round 2, Bray/Greystones v Elm Mount"B" ended in defeat for Greg. The game did not look promising from the resumption but play lasted 2½ hours anyway. This gives a a final result of Bray/Greystones 3½ Elm Mount"B" 4½.

Eugene Mc Morrowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119034060770762850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14366877.post-1130529877305349702005-10-28T12:56:00.000-07:002005-11-10T15:10:45.466-08:00Armstrong: Elm Mount v GonzagaThe Armstrong team played Gonzaga on Monday 24th October. The result was a win for Gonzaga, who are currently 5-2 ahead.

Club champion Ray O Rourke returned for this match and was our only winner. Zygis Jakubauskas and Gerry MacElligott drew while Alan MacDonough is currently adjourned. Ciaran Quinn, David Fitzsimons, Oliver Dunne and John Loughran (sub) all lost.

Update
Unfortunately Alan lost so the final result was Elm Mount 2 Gonzaga 6.
After 4 matches we are on 17/32.

Ciaran Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01456441893749062998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14366877.post-1129058098061634872005-10-11T12:08:00.000-07:002005-10-18T15:16:26.553-07:00Armstrong: Phibsboro B v Elm MountOn a wet and miserable Monday evening, 6 of the Armstrong team met at An Óige in Mountjoy Street to take on Phibsboro's B team. The only bright spot of the evening was Oliver's quick win. Only one other game finished on the night, Alan drawing and Michael, Zygis, Ciaran and Gerry adjourning. The remaining 2 games are to be played on Thursday.

Update
David and Tomas both won their games on Thursday and Zygis's adjourned game was drawn so the score is currently Elm Mount 4 Phibsboro B 1

Update - final score 6-2!
We won the match 6-2 in the end, thanks to a fortunate adjournment win in my game. Michal, Zygis and Gerry agreed draws. Such a good result seemed very unlikely at 11:00pm at the end of the first session.

Ciaran Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01456441893749062998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14366877.post-1128891891890547542005-10-09T22:05:00.000-07:002005-10-09T14:08:44.860-07:00Heidenfeld 05/06 seasonThe new season saw the Heidenfeld once again with two teams. As usual the first round was an "old firm derby", which ment that form went out the window. This has been proven by the even score of 3½ points each with one game adjourned.
Elm Mount "B" played their second round match in the Esplanade Hotel Bray. In this our momentum continued and we have a result of 4½ points with one game adjourned. We needed one sub for this match, Eamonn Pitts, who had a draw.

Eugene Mc Morrowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119034060770762850noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14366877.post-1128385803061351942005-10-03T17:22:00.000-07:002005-10-18T15:18:31.506-07:00Armstrong match report: Phibsboro A v Elm MountElm Mount played defending Armstrong Cup champions Phibsboro A in Elm Mount tonight.
