Sleek New Design, Innovative New Features
In addition to its new 9” Spinning Platter Design and real vinyl record included, driven by a powerful Direct Drive Motor with torque adjustments, the DN-S3700 features a new sleek stylish and intuitive design with brushed aluminum corners and solid aluminum feet that will appeal to working DJs who want to look as good as they sound. Innovative new features include three Auto loops with real-time loop length adjust and loop trim capabilities. In addition, the attractive and easy-to-read new display adds visual waveform data to the mix, providing information on hot start, auto loop, and break point data.

The DN-S3700’s 9” platter mounted with real vinyl is constructed with an ultra high-resolution pulse sensor mechanism to accurately reproduce the subtlest or swift scratching movements made by the human hand. The platter can perform other vital functions too such as, pitch bending, frame searching and quick file navigation from external USB devices. For added creative flexibility, three “hot starts” can be made on the fly, which also double as auto loops. In addition to auto loops, traditional A-B loops can be manually executed on the opposite side of the player. Here's what Sam Bradford and the high-scoring Sooners wanted to drive home: They belong in the BCS championship game.

The No. 4 Sooners did that with a 62-21 blowout of No. 19 Missouri for the Big 12 title Saturday night.

Taking advantage of an opportunity many felt it didn't deserve, the highest-scoring team in major college football history romped to a third straight conference crown and became the first to reach 60 points in five consecutive games in 89 years.

Don LaFontaine "The Voice"

Don LaFontaine, the highly sought-after voice-over artist whose sonorous-voiced narration on several thousand movie trailers earned him the title of "The Trailer King," has died. He was 68.

LaFontaine, who also did voice-over work on countless radio and network television promotional spots and commercials, died Monday of complications after treatment for an illness at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his family said. The illness was not specified.

Cuil Search Engine

"Search 121,617,892,992 web pages" claims the front page of the new search engine Cuil (pronounced "cool" apparently.) Those 120 billion pages are about three times as many as Google actually indexes, according to developer Anna Patterson... and she should know as until 2006 she worked there. Presented in a kind of "magazine style," Cuil will apparently get more pertinent results as it drills into the contents of a page, unlike Google's complex ranking system. Since two more of the development team also worked for Google, and there's $33 million of venture capital behind the new site, it is certainly going to be an interesting development to keep tabs on. Cuil starts taking search requests today.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City’s new NBA franchise has nicknamed itself the Thunder, according to a report Saturday on the web site of the city’s ABC affiliate.

Citing a source close to team ownership, KOCO-TV reported that the “registrar for all of the NBA’s Internet domain names were reserved okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net on July 10,” suggesting that the franchise formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics will soon be renamed.

The franchise left the Pacific Northwest after an ugly court case ended with an agreement between the team and the city of Seattle, which released the club from its lease at KeyArena - the crux of the disagreement.

In the court case, the city of Seattle had been seeking to hold the owners of the Sonics to the remaining two years of the team’s KeyArena lease and Sonics’ season-ticket holders also filed a class-action lawsuit that contended they were tricked into buying tickets under the belief that the team would be staying in the Pacific Northwest.

Sonics majority owner Clay Bennett and his ownership group alleged the team was losing money at KeyArena, thereby necessitating a likely move to Oklahoma City.

However, the Sonics and the city of Seattle came to an agreement on July 2, just hours before a district court judge was to issue a verdict on the six-day trial.

As per the agreement, the Oklahoma City franchise agreed to leave the Sonics’ name, logo and colors behind for a potential future NBA franchise in Seattle.

Dozens of individuals that attended an all night dance party near Moscow have been "partially blinded after a laser light show burned their retinas," according to Russian health officials. Apparently someone responsible for erecting the equipment decided to aim a few lights powerful enough to brighten the night sky down at the crowd (after rain necessitated a makeshift roof, we're told), with some of those who stared too long losing up to "80%" of their vision. We're not exactly sure what will happen to the promoters of the event, but at least now you have a valid excuse to rock those face-engulfing sunglasses (or a welding mask, if you're really paranoid) in every night club you waltz into.

Tejano star Emilio Navaira hospitalized after bus crash

Tejano music star Emilio Navaira remained in critical condition in a Houston hospital early today, fighting for his life after his tour bus slammed into traffic barrels on the northbound Loop 610 just before the Southwest Freeway exit.

The Grammy-winning singer suffered life-threatening head injuries when he was thrown through the front windshield of the bus he was driving at 5 a.m. Sunday, according to friends and authorities.

Navaira had surgery Sunday to remove a blood clot in his head, his agent, Joe Casias, told The Associated Press. "The next 24 hours are very critical," Casias said. "....on behalf of his family, we hope his fans will pray for Emilio."

Police aren't sure if alcohol played a role in the wreck but said they planned to test the driver's blood levels.

"For some reason, the driver lost control and hit the barrels," said Bellaire police Sgt. Daniel Kerr, who would not confirm that Navaira was driving. "We don't know why yet."

The driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, Kerr said.

Authorities are also uncertain of how fast the bus was travelling when it struck the barrels — crushing the vehicle's front end and scattering concert posters and other debris along the road. Part of the West Loop was closed for several hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.

Navaira, 45, was among eight people injured in the accident. He was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where a family friend said doctors operated to open Navaira's skull to relieve swelling.

"They told me they had to induce a coma to help relieve that pressure," said Joey Rodriguez, a close friend of Navaira's and manager for David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. "They told me that had given him a 20 percent chance (of surviving), so the next 24 hours is critical."

Navaira's younger brother and bandmate, Raul, a passenger on the bus, was seen walking around in OK condition at the hospital, friends said.

Two other bus passengers were transported to Memorial Hermann with less severe injuries, Houston Assistant Fire Chief Omero Longoria told the AP. Both were treated for minor injuries and released, hospital administrator Lisa Lagrone told the wire service.

The other five passengers were taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where their conditions were not immediately known, Longoria said. A hospital spokeswoman would not give out any information, citing health privacy laws.

Known simply as Emilio to his fans, Navaira and his band, Rio, performed Saturday night at Hallabaloo's in southeast Houston. He was set to perform Friday at the San Jose Scottish Rite Center in California.

Eden Barrera Jr., a fan in Houston, said he was floored by the scene of the accident, which he stopped to photograph.

"From what I could see, there was nothing left of the front cab," he said. "It is unbelievable that anyone could have survived the crash."

Family members, friends and fans touted Navaira's critical role in increasing the popularity of Tejano music. They also recounted Navaira's generosity, including his work to raise about $1 million for a children's foundation since 1990.

"He would give the shirt off his back to help anybody," said Ben Arredondo, Navaira's former uncle.

The San Antonio native was a self-taught musician who learned on a guitar that his father purchased at a pawn shop. He later majored in music at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

In 1989, he went solo and quickly rose as an influential force in the rising movement that became Tejano's massive renaissance in the early '90s. By the mid '90s, Navaira and Selena were considered the undisputed king and queen of Tejano. They both played in front of 70,000 fans at the Houston Astrodome for the Houston Rodeo's Go Tejano Day several times. They also dominated at the annual Tejano Music Awards.

In 2003, Emilio won a Grammy for his CD Acuerdate. His latest CD, De Nuevo, was released last September.

Like several celebrities, Emilio has seen his share of troubles.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated in September of 2000. That followed his arrest in January of that year on charges of assaulting a girlfriend and resisting arrest, charges that were later dropped.

Grammy-winning, Houston-based Tejano band Avizo has performed with Navaira on several occasions. Band leader and trumpet player Robert Dorantes compared Navaira's legacy to that of Selena and says, "This could have happened to any one of us."

Navaira "helped shape Tejano music into what it is today," Dorantes said. "We hope and pray Emilio comes out of this OK, and this should be a wake-up call to all musicians on the road."

Tom Petty At 2008 Super Bowl XLII

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be performing at the 2008 Super Bowl XLII Halftime show. Tom Petty management, along with the NFL will make the official announcement on December 2, 2007. The show FOX NFL Sunday did indeed break the news at 12:30pm EST using a montage of clips from the recent Petty documentary Runnin' Down a Dream. No other details or acts were announced.

The band is know for such hits as "Free Fallin," "American Girl," and "The Waiting." The Heartbreakers have a wide fan demographic making them the perfect match for a nationwide audience. The NBA recently used music and video from Petty and company for promotional purposes.

They run through a number of classic game songs, all while forming scenes from the games out of the band itself. It's got everything from Pong and Tetris to Zelda and Mario, and it's amazing. It makes me want to play Nintendo and join a drum line all at the same time. Well, maybe just play Nintendo, but you get the idea...

Rapper Kanye West is winning the chart battle with 50 Cent on both sides of the Atlantic, early sales figures show. West's Graduation, which was released on the same day as his rival's third album, Curtis, could top the charts in both the UK and US. 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, has vowed that he will retire from making solo albums if he is outsold by West. According to record sales executives in the US, West's album is projected to shift up to 700,000 copies this week.

Jennifer Lopez and Sony execs were less than thrilled last night when sales figures came in for her new, highly promoted Spanish-language CD, Como Ama Una Mujer.

The album, which was expected to do better in it's first week, sold a disappointing 48,000 units, coming it at #10 on the Billboard album charts this week.

NOT good news for JLo after her summer movie El Cantante is said to be so bad that it garnered boo's from audiences at The Berlin Film Festival.

Her last studio set, 2005's Rebirth, entered the album chart at #2.

One last thing, she doesn't want to be called "JLo" she now prefers Jennifer Lopez.
