"Kirk is not outside just the mainstream of the Republican Party. 'Kirkie' is outside them mainstream of American society. Killing live babies is murder, not 'abortion.' Of course Kirk had a childless 'marriage' so he has never been a parent. If he had ever been a father and held a newborn in his hands, he could not vote to kill live babies. Kirk would be an extreme leftist even running even as a Democrat.

"My real opponents—-the crooks in Washington who call themselves Republican 'leaders' and milk ordinary Republicans for donations to sustain their lavish lifestyles in Washington—-know Mark Kirk is not a Republican, not even a conservative Democrat.

"Washington insiders are trying to use Daley Machine stooge Andy McKenna, the unelected leader of the Illinois Republican Party, to 'endorse' Kirk the same way they fixed another crooked endorsement two years ago. They want to 'protect' Kirk from a primary election.

"Mark Kirk is the enemy of every Illinoisan. He wants to throw more Illinois workers on the jobless lines. He wants to steal our economic future to support Barry Obama's socialist dreams. Kirkie's support for massive new 'Obama taxes' to punish generations of solid Illinois businesses is criminal. His support for corporate giveaways to reward his crooked campaign contributors should be criminal, but it isn’t. Yet.

"We are investigating whether the so-called 'National Republican Senatorial Committee' can be sued for mail fraud in Illinois for seeking to corrupt an Illinois election. Claiming it is supporting 'Republican' candidates, the NRSC collects money from Illinoisans, rakes off the 'Beltway tax,' and then sends the remaining money back to Illinois to endorse an extremist baby killer such as Kirk. What kind of 'Republican' organization is this? What kind of leaders are these?

"Is it any wonder Republicans keep losing elections, or that Main Street conservatives are disgusted with the Republican Party's Beltway insiders?

"Kirk says he is running against Rod Blagojevich and Roland Burris. These bogeymen are history. Kirk's vision of the future is what should frighten every Illinoisan: higher taxes, condoned immorality, political corruption, suppression of free speech and gun control.

"I welcome the opportunity to take the case of the 'People of Illinois vs. Mark Kirk' to the voters of Illinois. We are not going to let Andy McKenna's daddy steal the primary as a pre-season Christmas gift for the Daley machine.

"In the last two election cycles, the Democrats started to rebuild by trying to appear as though they were moderating their views. Today the 'swing' votes in Congress are held by 'Blue Dog Democrats.' Mark Kirk is a liberal extremist even by Blue Dog benchmarks. Kirk must be defeated. Kirk is an 'Obama Democrat,' not even a Blue Dog Democrat.

(CHICAGO)(July 20, 2009) In over forty years of political experience, I have never seen anything quite like the Mark Kirk U. S. Senate psychodrama. Weird. Liberal "Kirkie" running in a statewide Republican primary? Creepy. What is he thinking?

Kirk apparently fears that his opponents will disrupt the announcement of his candidacy at 522 Melrose Avenue in Kenilworth today. He picked a strange place to announce, a private residence. Maybe not so strange. He is apparently using a private residence in order to control opponents who may try to "crash" his announcement. Kirk may not be very brave, but demonstrating cowardice at your own announcement is hardly a way to build confidence in his candidacy.

The Kirk campaign is a sick joke orchestrated by Washington, DC "insiders" to mock Illinois Republican primary voters. This is just a short list of the absurd aspects of Kirk's candidacy:

1. Kirk refuses to address the rumors about his personal life. He has been given an ample opportunity to do so, pre-announcement. His candidacy is a "lie" to Republican voters. The masquerade can’t last forever. If Kirk won't tell voters the truth about himself, then his opponents will be compelled to reveal the facts for him. Repeat after me: "No more Jack Ryans."

2. Kirk has no record of standing up to Barack Obama. In fact, Kirk and Rahm Emanuel are publicly disclosed best buddies. Why would any Republican vote for a candidate that has never challenged Obama and is linked to Obama's chief-of-staff?

3. Kirk has no record of fighting the Daley Machine. Why would he? He has no record of fighting corruption, either. Maybe that's because he is one of the most corrupt member of congress. Kirk's vote is always for sale to the highest bidder. He is working to throw American workers out of jobs to satisfy the demands of his campaign contributors. Great work, Kirkie.

4. Kirk is apparently scheming to misuse the American Legion. He apparently plans to stop at an American Legion post as part of his campaign announcement. American Legion posts are often rented for political events; but when they are, they are hired for that purpose, not just appropriated. The AL is a tax-exempt, non-political organization. Kirk is misusing the AL.

Maybe Kirk should "out" himself at the American Legion and explain why he voted against the surge in Iraq. Kirk likes to masquerade in a Navy uniform, but he apparently is not much of either a Navy man or an "intelligence officer." He dissed the surge. It's time for "Please ask, do tell."

Maybe Kirk wants to out himself at the American Legion and confess he was part of a disinformation campaign acting as a stooge for Donald Rumsfeld? Just what Republicans need to offer up as opposition to the lying Obama: a Republican liar like Kirk. What is Kirk thinking? Kirk is anti-military and anti-veteran.

5. Kirk is unique in that he brings along his own opposition with him into the primary. Lynn Sweet, Kirk's liberal media "lover" at the Chicago Sun-Times, says Kirk has to "repair" his voting record. Kirk's voting record against the Second Amendment, to criminalize the Internet and to support "Cap-and-Traitor" cannot be "repaired." He either voted or proposed to destroy our freedoms. www.MarkKirk.us

Kirk is one of the most liberal extremists in the U. S. House, much more liberal than many "blue dog" Democrats. And Kirk wants Republican voters to nominate him? Kirk may be smoking some of the same cannabis he is trying to criminalize.

I have never seen at the pre-announcement stage a similar level of hostility—rage really—directed at any senate candidate by members of his own party. Kirk is unique in the opposition he has created outside the 10th District. Loyal Republicans across the state are salivating at the prospect of voting against him.

Kirk can only embarrass the Illinois Republican Party.

The best reason to oppose Kirk? He is supported by the same Washington insiders and Chicago "Republicans" who line up with the Daley Machine and have lost two national elections in a row.

(CHICAGO)(July 18, 2009) Almost every day we receive anguished e-mails from Republicans in Mark Kirk's 10th District disgusted with Kirk's performance in office.

Yet liberal Chicago newspaper reporters "endorse" Kirk. Beltway Republicans in Washington do the same. What gives? Is there a secret agenda? What hold does Kirk have on some members of the media? How does he exercise control over some members of the political establishment? We will have more to say in the days ahead.

It is time to deconstruct Mark Kirk and the masquerade he represents.

Here is a representative voter's unsolicited letter and our response, with redactions [ ] to protect the writer's privacy. We have never met the writer and the writer has no current connection with our campaign:

Dear Mr. Martin,I am a [10th District resident], IL resident and I have been a registered Republican since 1978. I have been married for [redacted] years, I have [children], the oldest of whom in headed off to [redacted] in the fall. My [child] worked on the Kirk for Congress campaign last year and I have voted for Mark Kirk every time he has run for Congress. I will never, ever do so again.I must admit that this past election I had to hold my nose when I voted for him, but his vote on the cap and trade bill raised his stench level to a point where holding my nose no longer works. [redacted]After his vote I went to his office, told them who I was and told them why I would never vote for him again. With your permission I will add you to our e-mail list. You can always delete any of our columns that do not interest you.

The liberal media are trying to shove Mark Kirk down the throats of Illinois Republican voters. Lynn sweet of the liberal, pro-Obama (and anti-Andy Martin) Chicago Sun-Times said Kirk had a little "repair" job to do on conservatives. I think most Illinoisans want to trade Kirk in under the "cash for clunkers" program, not "repair" his abominable record. Repair is not in the cards.

National Republican "leaders" back Kirk. Why? Because these people (and Democrats are just as guilty) live in another world. Another world.

But we still have a voice, and we still have a vote.

We can stop Mark Kirk's malignant agenda: (a) to take away our guns to satisfy any-gun liberals; (b) to criminalize the Internet so that anyone who stands up to Obama can be charged with a crime; (c) to tax us into oblivion with "cap-and-trade" and health care, to the point where 50% of our national income is devoted to taxes. In my opinion, when you cross the 50% threshold, you have entered the "socialist zone."

I have a tremendous amount of experience (see www.AndyMartin.com; www.AndyforUSSenator.com; www.FirstRespondersOnline.us.), experience that would allow me to be an effective senator for every Illinoisan. The media don’t want you to know the truth about my background.

Ironically, the only people who respect my effectiveness are Obama's people; they attacked me in 2008 because I was costing them millions of votes with my anti-Obama Internet campaign. The media tried to smear me, and they only focused more attention on my efforts. I only wish Senator John McCain had done a better job. We could have won.

I am going to do my best to raise money to run attack ads against Kirk. If he beats us in the funding campaign, he will likely win. Obviously, we need to raise huge sums of money.

With your permission, I would like to redact or "scrub" your letter and distribute it to voters and the media without identifying information, together with this response.

I would sincerely appreciate any effort you can make on my behalf. With your help and the help of every honest Illinois Republican, we can defeat Kirk in the primary and win back Senator Everett Dirksen's old seat in 2010. As a historical footnote, I am probably the last Republican who will ever appear on a state ballot who was actually in Senator Dirksen's Capitol office.

(CHICAGO)(July 17, 2009) Every campaign today for a major office involves due diligence on the part of each campaign. Sometimes opponents are looking for dirt, and the terms "dirt diggers" and "mud merchants" describe such behavior. But everyone does due diligence to learn as much as possible about a campaign opponent. Our campaign performs these functions openly and above-board. We have nothing to hide.

The liberal media are enamored of Kirk because he is Barack Obama's favorite "Republican." That is why, apart from some catty remarks by blogger Tom Roeser, there has been no analysis of the Kirk divorce in the Chicago media.

Until recently Mark Kirk was not on my radar screen. He became a person of interest when he announced that he might run against me for the U. S. Senate.

In many decades of political experience, I have never experienced anything like the Kirk phenomenon. Almost every day disaffected and disgruntled Republicans and former Kirk supporters contact me, offering to help my campaign. (We have asked one of them for permission to release a redacted version of his cri de coeur.)

Thus, although the liberal mainstream media in Chicago try hard to pretend I don't exist, I am indeed the 800-pound gorilla in the February primary. (I would like to slim down to no more than 700 pounds.) I have run statewide before; Kirk has not. Most importantly, Kirk has an army of enemies that are ready to pounce on him; every day new information about Kirk comes in over the transom at our offices.

None of the real facts about the primary election are apparent from reading the Associated Press or the bankrupt dead tree newspapers in Chicago. Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times has said Kirk had a "repair" job to do with "conservatives." Chicago Tribune reporters have labeled Kirk a national "best bet." Don't bet on it.

The mainstream media have never forgiven me for almost defeating Barack Obama in 2008. My Internet campaign cost Obama millions of votes. If McCain had been a more solid candidate, he would have slipped into office. We did our part; he didn’t do his. That is why the local media pretend I don’t exist. But I do.

Over the next few days, we will be providing analysis of the Kirk/Vertoli divorce. We are also sending investigators to Virginia to question neighbors, etc. Later we will also be sending investigators to 275 Whistler Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois. We began our investigation of Kirk's divorce and surrounding circumstances after numerous tips, some anonymous, some identified. We forced the Clerk of the Court in Alexandria, Virginia where Kirk apparently lives to release the Kirk divorce file after the Clerk initially claimed the papers were sealed.

In particular, I am concerned that the Vertoli/Kirk marriage may have been a sham.

As someone who has taught family law, and consulted in family law litigation, I found the entire divorce file very peculiar and perplexing.

I have not found any evidence that Mr. Kirk actually lived at 3292 Mount Vernon Avenue, or anywhere else in the Commonwealth. We are going to be sending investigators to the neighborhood to see if anyone actually saw Kirk there, or anywhere else in the company of Ms. Vertoli.

Kirk can have his Republican "leaders;" I only want the voters. Kirk's leaders have led Republicans to defeat in two consecutive elections, and made a laughingstock out of the party with their sexual peccadilloes and sheer hypocrisy.

Barack Obama sold Americans a bill of goods with his "Audacity of Hope." Republican leaders in Washington have been selling folks back home their "Audacity of Contempt for the American People."

We have been waiting for Kirk to announce, so we can attack and attack and attack.

Mark Kirk is the candidate of the corrupt Illinois "combine" that controls both political parties in Illinois. Kirk is one of the most corrupt public officials in Washington. We will put the evidence before primary voters. For the first time voters will receive an unfiltered view of Washington as it really is: an arrogant city with overriding contempt for the American people. Both parties, Democrats and Republicans, are sleazy and corrupt.

Despite efforts by the two bankrupt Chicago newspapers to rig he primary in favor of liberal Kirk, we intend to deconstruct Kirk like the overripe liberal Beltway hothouse tomato he is. This primary is going to be the race to watch.

Of course Washington "insiders" are saluting Kirk. Sadly, these are the same "national leaders" who have brought ridicule and collapse to the Republican brand.

"Marky Mark" Kirk is going to have to defend and respond to the pervasive rumors about his personal life. It is time for Republican "leaders" to stop lying to the American people about whom we are and what we are as a party. Maybe finally we can clean up the detritus left in the wake of Dennis Hastert's sudden resignation from office.

I am going to attack Kirk from two directions: the personal and the political. We are going to spread before Illinois primary voters the truth about Kirk and his ilk.

Lynn Sweet of the bankrupt Sun-Times says Kirk has to do "repair work with conservatives." There is nothing to repair. Mark Kirk is Barack Obama's favorite Republican because Kirk is a liberal Democrat masquerading. Oh, what the heck. Kirk's entire life is a masquerade. Don't reporters even read their own newspapers? Sweet probably does not know any conservatives. She insults Republicans by treating them as children. So much for the Sun-Times' impartiality.

Likewise the bankrupt Chicago Tribune says Beltway insiders see Kirk as the "best bet" in the primary. I would not bet their bankrupt paychecks if I were a Tribune reporter.

People have stopped buying newspapers because they are disgusted by the slanted, one-sided "reporting" that passes for "news." Newspapers and print media such as the Associated Press maliciously lie to their readers. The result has been a wholesale rejection of so-called mainstream media. They are literally bankrupt. For a reason. They lie.

During the last presidential campaign my Internet newspaper cost Barack Obama millions of votes. Barack Obama attacked me for a reason: he knows we move votes. We know how to bring the truth to the attention of voters, and we know how to fight against and neutralize liberal media bias.

I make only one promise to Illinois Republican voters: I will not abandon you to your leaders, or the jokers in Washington who have become fat and sassy profiting from the direct mail solicitations they send you to support the high life they live in their Beltway salons.

I promise Illinois voters a tough primary. I promise them the truth about Kirk. If, after learning the truth about Kirk, they still want to follow him down the path to defeat, they will have done so of their own volition and not because a handful of aging newspaper reporters tried to fix the election.

MARK KIRK COMES UNDER INCREASING PRESSURE TO "COME CLEAN" IF HE PLANS TO RUN FOR STATEWIDE OFFICE

(CHICAGO)(July 15, 2009) People love to make fun of lawyers. But I have never heard any one ask for the "second best" lawyer when they are faced with a serious legal problem. Likewise, a "lawyerly approach" to a problem may sometimes be frustrating. I am trained as a lawyer, though I don't practice. And sometimes my approach to a situation can be drawn out and frustrating. But even my opponents will admit I am a formidable adversary. Just ask Barack Obama what he thinks about me (unprintable).

People constantly ask me why I won’t address the "substance" of the rumors about Representative Mark Kirk. They want the red meat. But I am not a butcher.

Kirk has not yet announced for statewide office. But with all due respect to Mark, in light of the Illinois Republican Party's tragic experience with Jack Ryan in 2004 I don't think that a statewide candidate can afford to allow rumors to go unanswered.

My approach to Kirk's rumors has been a "lawyerlike" one: concentrate on their existence, but avoid their substance. Kirk should have the "first bite of the apple" if he wants to clear up the questions swirling around him.

My U. S. Senate campaign, moreover, operates independently of any other organization, group or entity. We read what's out there, and we sometimes bring materials to broader public attention (see link below). But we do so independently of any source we cite or quote.

Many people have been flabbergasted at Mark Kirk's continuing indecision about whether to become a U.S. senate candidate. Does he enjoy being seen as a "Hamlet?" Some days he's "in," and some days he's "out."

Most people that want to run for statewide office start planning and laying the foundations of their campaigns far in advance. They don't wait until petitioning is about to begin to launch a statewide effort. So what explains Kirk's bizarre behavior?

Mr. Kirk claims to be an "intelligence officer." Maybe he is. On paper. But he is definitely a spy of the hothouse variety. I don't think he has ever been in harm's way. I have a little background with intelligence as well. And I have been shot at (pictures at http://www.firstrespondersonline.us/default.htm and www.AndyMartin.com). (We will have more to say about Kirk's "intelligence" background in the days ahead.)

Five years ago I wrote a critical column about Barack Obama. I had no idea those comments would mushroom into a growing and seemingly endless inquiry into Obama's identity. One of the things you do in that kind of an investigation is that you literally "try to live inside someone's skin." You try to think the way they think, and eavesdrop on their reasoning process.

Until recently, I had not given much thought to Mark Kirk. But since he appeared on my radar screen as a potential primary opponent we have been giving him a lot of attention. See www.MarkKirk.us. We think we have a fair idea of how the Democrats are going to deconstruct Kirk if he becomes the nominee. And we have a plan to defeat Kirk in the Republican primary.

Kirk is nowhere near as strong as the powerhouse portrayed by his liberal media in Washington or his flaccid media in Chicago. Kirk is a classic beltway operator. He is as far removed from ordinary Republicans as Main Street is from Manchuria. That is his Achilles Heel. And he knows it.

One Illinois Republican congressman apparently likes to pose in a bathing suit or similar attire. Not very congressional. Given the poisoned legacy that Denny Hastert and Mark Foley left behind, that's not a very "politick" way to appear.

Today Kirk received the coveted award of "Combine Candidate" for the U. S. Senate. The "Combine" is a bipartisan college of corruption that "combines" both parties in Illinois, and ensures that "honest graft" flows into the pockets of everyone connected to and subservient to the Combine's agenda, Democrat or Republican. The "Combine" is the original "green" party in Illinois: cold cash, long green for Combine insiders.

Representative Mark Kirk has been a master of "honest graft" in the U. S. House. He raises "blind" contributions without telling the donors what office he is seeking. The donors don’t care. They want congressional influence and access, not political insight into his congressional district back home. Kirk is available for sale to powerful lobbies, and he is a better-than-average salesman.

That is why I have watched the current fandango over whether Kirk will run against me in the Republican primary for the U. S. Senate with endless amusement. The McKenna/Kirk kabuki of the past few days has been hilarious. The identity of the "Combine Candidate" who will make the race has changed from day to day.

Last week Combine stooge Andy McKenna said he was a candidate for the U. S. Senator. I welcomed him into the race. No sooner had I welcomed McKenna as a candidate, he was out.

Monday (July 13th) Kirk received McKenna's endorsement for the senate. The Combine's "Crown of Corruption" was conferred on Kirk. McKenna's seal of approval is the gold standard for Combine support. McKenna's father, although nominally a "Republican," is a billionaire businessman whose financial interests are intertwined with the Daley Machine.

On and on it goes.

According to the "mainstream disinformation media" Associated Press, Kirk will announce his intentions "soon." Kirk, of course, said he would announce in April. That was three months ago.

Kirk has raised over $1 million in "dirty dollars" from special interests in Washington to fund his senatorial extravaganza. We intend to see that he spends every penny he raises, in the Republican primary. The Combine will have to open its coffers and shell out big time to support Kirk's crooked campaign.

In the meantime, loyal, Main Street Republicans can't wait for the opportunity to vote against Mark Kirk. No surprise there: Kirk wants to confiscate their guns, impose criminal sanctions on the Internet, and tax them into oblivion with Cap-and-Trade. And Kirk calls himself a Republican?

Mark Kirk, we do know ye. And that's no rumor.

Republicans will have a statewide primary in which they have an opportunity to take back their party from the Combine and all of the Daley Machine stooges who currently control the Illinois Republican Party's nominal operations.

My suggestion to Kirk: address the rumors about your personal life before you announce for statewide office. Once you're in, you're "in."

Andy Martin, a former family law professor, will provide his reaction to the Virginia divorce records of Illinois Congressman Mark Kirk

(CHICAGO)(July 13, 2009) Internet Powerhouse and U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin announced Monday that he will provide a blockbuster analysis of the Mark Kirk divorce on Thursday, July 16th. While the Kirk divorce records that were obtained from a Virginia court do not directly address the rumors swirling around Kirk, they offer an insight into Kirk's unusual marriage.

"The circumstances of Mark Kirk's divorce are not, strictly speaking, relevant to his performance in congress," Martin said. "But because of the rumors that Representative Kirk generates, his overall approach to Illinois Republicans as a potential statewide candidate must be one of total candor given the Republican Party's tragic experience with Jack Ryan's 2004 'sexless' sex scandal."

"I have scrupulously adhered to a limited discussion of the simple existence of the Kirk rumors, and not an exegesis of their substance. I think that approach strikes an appropriate balance at this stage, given that Kirk has not yet announced for higher office.

"The rumors about Kirk are, of course, widely known within the 10th congressional district itself. They are not yet known statewide. Because he has never run a statewide race, Kirk remains unknown to most voters despite the avalanche of recent pro-Kirk propaganda in the elitist liberal media in Washington and Chicago."

"McKenna, who is not yet in, apparently won’t get out. Who's on first? Kirk and McKenna are dong a classic Abbott and Costello reprise.

"This is entertaining. Two drama queens doing a dance of the seven candidacies, an 'in-out' soap opera that leaves everyone wondering what comes next.

"My campaign looks like an oasis of sobriety and stability by comparison with Kirk/McKenna's Alphonse and Gaston routine, 'You first, no you first,' about which one of them gets to run for the Senate," Martin said. "I am a candidate unconditionally. Unlike Congressman Kirk I was not waiting for Lisa Madigan to make up her mind, or Kirk or McKenna to make up theirs. I'm in.

"I have a printer who is preparing petitions. We hit the streets with nominating petitions on August 4th.

"Nevertheless, it is hard not to conclude that the comedy riff of Kirk and McKenna [or is it "McKenna & Kirk?"] is damaging the Republican brand in Illinois. How can Republicans criticize 'Senator' Al Franken when we have Kirk & McKenna?

"I don’t know what Mark Kirk's problem is, except that he is obviously nonplussed by the deliberate way we are investigating the rumors about his personal life. Maybe Kirk is struggling with just how to deal with the devastating rumors, rumors that could explode in the middle of the primary election campaign and do a 'Jack Ryan' on Illinois Republicans.

"Amazingly, Kirk & McKenna have a longstanding relationship. Now they are 'fighting?' Is this real? Or is it World Wrestling Federation?

Senate candidate Andy Martin announced Friday that he was the "frontrunner" in the campaign to become the Republican nominee for President Barack Obama's former U. S. Senate seat. Martin said his concentrated campaign to force Congressman Mark Kirk out of the race, succeeded.

"Despite the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza's pumping for one of my primary opponents, I am delighted to claim 'frontrunner' status in the 2010 U. S. Senate Republican primary," Martin said in a statement from vacation. Martin is en route to Southampton, Long Island.

"My campaign is ready to go. We are ready to roll on August 4th; petitioning begins in just 25 days.

"I respect that Andy McKenna will be a formidable adversary in the primary. The question is whether my grass roots campaign can overcome McKenna's financial edge. My campaign has a big challenge, no doubt about it.

"Today I am extending this offer to Mr. McKenna: if he does not seek to rig or manipulate the primary in his role as soon-to-be former state chairman, he will have my support if he wins the nomination. If we see the same 'Combine' shenanigans we saw in 2008, I will oppose McKenna after the primary. The choice is McKenna's.

"I believe Mr. McKenna should step down as IRP Chairman as soon as he starts circulating nominating petitions.

"All I ask is a level playing field in the 2010 primary. Let the voters, not the bosses, decide. If McKenna has confidence in his qualifications, he will not use Democrat Machine hatchet men against me the way he did in 2003.

"I will take my experience and qualifications to the Illinois Republican Party's primary voters. Because of my status as Barack Obama's original critic and longest-standing opponent, the primary will become a focus of national attention.

"Earlier this week, McKenna went to the Washington power brokers to seek their support. Kirk made the same effort. I am only asking the people of Illinois for their backing. There will be no machers or power brokers in my campaign. Mr. McKenna and I will offer contrasting approaches, and contrasting styles. Voters are going to have a real choice," Martin said.

"The question is, which Republican can be the most effective in campaigning against Barack Obama's inevitable smear machine, and, if elected, which Republican can stop Obama's socialist schemes in their tracks?

"The race will not be an easy one for either myself or Mr. McKenna. That is why we should work our best to have an honest and open primary, so that the voters' verdict commands the support of every candidate, and so that we can move forward as a unified party after primary day.

"I also extend my best wishes to Congressman Kirk. In my opinion, he made the right decision for himself. In due course will be taking down our anti-Kirk web site, www.MarkKirk.us. It is functus officio."

(CHICAGO)(July 9, 2009) Internet Powerhouse and U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin announced Thursday that he was still waiting for a response from Congressman Mark Kirk as to when Kirk would address the rumors about Kirk's personal life.

"Mark Kirk is talking tough," Martin said, "raising money and 'contacting leaders' about being a candidate for the U. S. Senate.

"But if someone wants to see a textbook example of what is sick about Washington, Mark Kirk is the poster boy. He has raised a ton of campaign cash without even telling people what he is running for. He is collecting 'blind' contributions. If that's not buying and selling influence, what is?

"Kirk is such a scardy-cat that he was too afraid to even announce for office until he saw what Mike Madigan's daughter was doing. If Kirk was afraid of Lisa Madigan, how is he going to stand up to the Russians? Prancing around in a Navy uniform cannot erase the cowardice Kirk has demonstrated in the face of a real adversary, Ms. Madigan.

"Most critically for Illinois Republicans, Kirk has not addressed rumors about his convoluted and confused personal life.

"Mark Kirk appears intent on becoming the next GOP sex scandal.

"Although Republicans often complain they are held to a 'double standard' by the media when it comes to sexual and marital peccadilloes, that is not the case," Martin stated. "For once, the 'broken clock' media are right. "For better or worse, Democrats make no pretenses about the sexual morality of their party. Therefore, Democrats are immune from embarrassment because there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

"Republicans, on the other hand, engage in breast-beating about 'family values' and 'morality.' Morality and concerns for the family should be an important part of our national agenda.

"But when 'morality' becomes a form of hypocrisy, we receive what we deserve when the sexual immorality of Republican leaders becomes page one news.

"Illinois' Dennis Hastert created a massive sex scandal in the House of Representatives, of which the disgraced Representative Mark Foley was only the tip of the iceberg. How and why did 'Denny' allow the sexual shenanigans to blossom on his watch? We never got a satisfactory explanation. Hastert pulled a 'Sarah Palin' and resigned before the end of his elected term of office.

"Just this year we have had a 'sexy senator,' in Senator Ensign of Nevada, and the 'lov gov' in Governor Sanford of South Carolina. On and on it goes: infidelity in the 'party of the faithful.' And they wonder why Americans are rejecting the Republican 'brand.'

"The Illinois Republican Party has never recovered from the 'sexless' sex scandal in 2004 when senate candidate Jack Ryan was hounded out of the campaign, and Republican leaders then inexplicably voted to elect Barack Obama by virtual acclamation. Illinois should be drummed out of the Union for what we did to the United States. We gave Americans Barry Obama.

"And now there is 'Marky Mark' Kirk, the recently-divorced representative that hungers to be a senator but won't hunker down and tell the truth about the rumors enveloping him.

"People in Illinois know I am not inventing these rumors. They are all across the northeastern part of the state where Kirk is well known. But no one will step forward, yet, to pop Kirk's balloon.

"Instead we see an asinine press release from 'Rob Jesmer' of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, that claims Jesmer 'recruited' Kirk to be a senate candidate. Why is some anonymous weenie in Washington claiming credit for 'recruiting' Kirk to run in Illinois? Don't the people of Illinois, and Illinois Republicans, have something to say about who represents them?

"Jesmer, of course, ignores the rumors about Kirk's private life. Here we see the essence of the 'two Republican parties.' There are the 'Beltway Dreamlanders,' who live in their own Hastert-inspired dreamland about the reality of 'their' Republican Party; and we have the 'Real World Out There' where Mark Kirk does not choose to live but where real people and real families live.

"We are soon going to present a detailed analysis of Kirk's divorce. Based on what happened to Jack Ryan in 2004, a divorce file can contain lethal material.

"But what is embarrassingly clear already is that Mr. & Mrs. Kirk considered themselves legal domiciliaries of Virginia, where they filed for divorce, and not Illinois, which Kirk claims to represent. Kirk does not even pretend to be an Illinoisan. 'Cap'n' cap-and-trade flies in occasionally to Illinois to grace us with his presence. So why are the Republican weenies in Washington recruiting him to represent a state he has abandoned? Maybe Kirk represents them.

"Mark Kirk has to come clean with Illinois Republicans," Martin stated.

"If Kirk does not make a clean breast of and respond to the rumors," Martin suggested, "He may find himself in a dirty primary. The Chicago Tribune has the same lawyers standing by to destroy Mark Kirk with lawsuits and sexual innuendos that the Trib used to dismember Jack Ryan."

Senate candidate Andy Martin told a Wheaton, Illinois news conference Saturday, July 4th that he has adopted a new rallying cry for the Republican Party in 2010: “God Bless the USA; we won’t let Obama take it away.©” Martin also told the news conference he is a “common sense conservative.”

“With attribution, our new slogan is available for use by Republicans everywhere, and will tell people what we stand for,” Martin said. “We love the USA; we won’t let Barack Obama take it away from us with his socialist schemes and groveling to foreign dictators. America is worth fighting for, and it is worth fighting Obama for. We will defeat him at the ballot box in 2010”

Martin “rocked” the Wheaton Independence day parade. He chanted “God Bless the USA” along the mile-and-a-half parade route to a rousing response from parade watchers. Waving his hat and carrying a 5’ by 3’ banner, Martin told DuPage residents that he will stand by the USA in Washington.

“Because the parade is nonpartisan, we could not use our full slogan today. But it will begin to appear on our materials and in our speeches,” Martin said. “‘God Bless The USA: We Won’t Let Obama Take It Away.’

“I am a ‘common sense’ conservative. I like the Goldilocks approach: not too hot, not too cold, just right.

“Candidates who throw ‘red meat’ to the right, by making illusory campaign promises, are irresponsible and undermine the Republican brand.

“Likewise, Republicans who surrender to the left are irresponsible. I am in the middle. I am willing to fight for common sense conservative principles.

“It was my privilege to share July 4th with the good people of Wheaton; they represent the best in American life,” Martin said after marching along the parade route. “I am honored and humbled that they extended such a warm welcome to me.”

(CHICAGO)(June 30, 2009) DuPage County judicial candidate Fred Spitzzeri exploded with anger in a DuPage County Courthouse vestibule Tuesday, threatening U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin with violence.

“Let’s just go outside and settle this ourselves,” Spitzzeri menaced. “You picked on the wrong Sicilian. You’re a pussy.” Spitzzeri then moved closer to Martin as though to indicate an imminent outburst of violence.

Spitzzeri’s “gangsta” exhibition came as new court filings revealed Spitzzeri and Circuit Judge Bonnie Wheaton have engaged in additional judicial corruption. “I was stunned to discover that the new comedy team of Wheaton-and-Spitzzeri was again meeting in secret in March,” said Andy Martin. “Fred cooked up yet another secret hearing with Bonnie. What a pair. And they wonder why people have disgust for the courts and contempt for lawyers.

“Fred’s vicious attack on me, all in the presence of another attorney who was a witness [Richard J. Nogal of Goldstine, Skrodzki] was amazing. Spitzzeri doesn’t know that I also have Sicilian ancestors, and the Spitzzeris were probably mopping floors for the Trigonas. One of the differences between myself and Fred is that he was brought up as a Chicago West Side hoodlum and I was raised in a proper environment, including Oxford University.

“Fred’s desire to ‘settle things’ in the courthouse garden with fisticuffs was as unprofessional as it was desperate. Mr. Spitzzeri and Judge Bonnie Wheaton have corrupted the administration of justice, and they have been caught in flagrante delicto. But I have been exposing crooked judges for over forty years; catching petty crooks in small-town courthouses is nothing new for me.

The incident Tuesday shows that when confronted with the truth about his machinations, Spitzzeri dropped all pretense of his genteel Naperville demeanor and quickly reverted to his original persona as a violent Chicago crime syndicate hoodlum. Do DuPage voters want this man as a judge?” Martin asks.

Martin calls Naperville Township trustee Fred Spitzzeri one of the most corrupt public officials in Illinois, and totally unfit to serve as a DuPage County judge. “Fred is not a ‘public’ official,” Martin charges. “He is a ‘private’ official, working to satisfy his own private greed and personal benefit.

“For the past two decades, Fred Spitzzeri has cultivated a public image as an amiable attorney, all while seeking to serve himself and his own pecuniary interests first, last and always. Behind the façade, Spitzzeri is pure ‘Daley Machine.’ The essence of the Daleys is to steal while no one is looking; that has been Spitzzeri’s modus operandi as a Naperville Township trustee.

“Our web site offers a detailed analysis of Spitzzeri’s unethical conduct and his documented record of trying to improperly influence sitting judges.

“Spitzzeri took a low-paying job as ‘township trustee’ and converted it into a gold mine for himself and his family, collecting over $90,000 in ‘benefits’ in his first term for a job that is supposed to pay a nominal $7,300 a year.

“DuPage Republicans are primarily middle class. Few are very wealthy and few are very poor. But they all work hard to pay their property taxes; they don’t want a parasite like Fred Spitzzeri enriching himself at their expense.

“We also caught Spitzzeri meeting secretly with Judge Bonnie Wheaton, and corrupting her, with brazenness and arrogance. Wheaton in turn said she was unaware that judges should not meet in secret with one side to a pending lawsuit. I do not want DuPage County to become a Republican mirror image of the Cook County Courthouse. I am committed to fighting for ethical judges in both Republican and Democratic counties.

“Republicans have only one thing to offer DuPage County and Illinois residents: honest government. But Spitzzeri’s behavior is a repudiation of everything Republicans are supposed to stand for. He undermines every Republican who is fighting for good government. Fred took an obscure job and converted the position into a personal gold mine with $90,000 of ‘honest graft;’ that kind of behavior is a classic Daley Machine technique.

“Over the past forty years I have exposed both Democrats and Republicans as crooks [see www.AndyMartin.com]. When it comes to fighting corruption, I am completely nonpartisan. As a statewide candidate I normally avoid becoming embroiled in local races. The only exception to that general rule is in elections where I am aware of candidates who are involved in corruption and abuse of public office. Mr. Spitzzeri should be Public Enemy #1 for DuPage County Republicans.

“The Spitzzeri scandal is also a salute to the Illinois Supreme Court. The Court recently reaffirmed the right of Illinoisans to a meaningful Freedom-Of-Information-Act. I used Illinois’ FOIA to obtain access to Naperville Township public records. My attacks on Spitzzeri are based on official Naperville Township archives.

“We will be working to defeat Fred Spitzzeri in the February, 2010 primary. He is unfit to serve as a circuit judge, unless he runs in Chicago where his type is welcomed. DuPage County is the last bastion of Republican strength in Illinois; Republicans should not jeopardize their dominant position in the county by allowing crud such as Spitzzeri to become judicial candidates,” Martin will state.

“Our investigation of Mr. Spitzzeri is continuing. Those with information or evidence to offer about Spitzzeri are invited to contact our offices.”

"The fact Chicago's news media are promoting Kirk as a candidate for the Senate shows how out of touch these arrogant media elitists are.

"Kirk is a guy than can stand up to Barack Obama's socialist schemes? He's already part of the Obamanation.

"We are launching a new web site to remind Republicans that Kirk cannot seriously be considered a candidate for U. S. senator. Kirk may represent an ultra-liberal sliver of Illinois. Kirk promised a decision on whether he would run for statewide office in April.

“When I originally began looking into Mark Kirk’s peculiar behavior as a candidate, I had no idea what to expect,” Andy Martin said. “Lawyers call this ‘due diligence.’ We check the files, review the records, make sure we did not miss anything.

“Then last week I got the first threat from one of Kirk’s supporters.

“Over the weekend, the same ‘supporter’ sent me another threat, and said Kirk was a ‘Superman:’

We the Republican Party in Northeast Illinois have a quiet army of people that will come out and work against you for trying to get cheap media at the cost of our party's unity.
That is not a threat, that is a reality. You are approaching this in the absolute worst possible manner to get the votes you need for furthering your ambitions.
Your little PR release this morning that cites me (I assume) stating that you give out my name for anyone who asks for it ...is great. Do you honestly think that you are going to track with voters using this antics?

I have Kirk on my facebook as you point out, as well as McKenna because I am a Republican (as opposed to you) and they are the elected leaders of my State Party and my District. Whether Kirk runs or not I do not care, he has done a brilliant job for us in the 10th and for America. You are pissing on Superman's cape.

“I take this man’s remarks as a threat, not a threat to harm me physically but a threat to damage me politically for asking Mark Kirk to tell the truth to the People of Illinois.

“Kirk’s supporter’s new claim that Marky Mark is ‘Superman’ is bizarre.

“His suggestion that we have to support the Illinois Republican Party’s corrupt state leadership is bizarre. We are losing elections because Andy McKenna is a Daley stooge. (McKenna supports Kirk.)

“The claim that Kirk has done a ‘brilliant job’ by undermining the Second Amendment and other conservative causes is bizarre.

“Today, of course, I learned from the Clerk of the Court that Mark Kirk’s ‘unsealed’ divorce files remain ‘sealed.’ Once a potential candidate starts to release lies, you have to suspect they have something to hide. It looks as though Kirk is trying to pull a ‘Jack Ryan’ and run for office while hiding personal records from media and public review. We all know how Ryan’s campaign ended up.

“Wednesday I will be contacting the Clerk’s office in Alexandria, Virginia, where Kirk’s divorce was filed, to seek the necessary paperwork for a lawsuit to open the divorce records. I am going to do a ‘Chicago Tribune’ on Kirk. (The Chicago Tribune filed a successful lawsuit to open’s Ryan’s sealed divorce file.

“Reading the sad story of Senator John Ensign’s sex sandal Tuesday night was a reminder that the party of ‘family values’ has had three U. S. Senate sex scandals in the past several years. (Craig, Vitter, Ensign). We don’t need Mark Kirk’s campaign to add a fourth.

“Kirk seems to be suffering from the same form of ‘Potomac Fever’ as Senator ensign. These people go to Washington and forget their home states. They become arrogant and imperious towards ordinary citizens. And they live a lie. Ensign was lying. Kirk lied when he said his divorce files were ‘unsealed,’ when the Clerk says they are sealed. Kirk’s lie is about as big a bald-faced lie as I have ever seen from any potential candidate.

“The fact that Kirk is using his followers to threaten me is a sign of extreme weakness on Kirk’s part.

“What’s your opinion?

“I apply the same standards to investigating Republicans that I apply to Barack Obama: a search for the truth and the facts. Nothing more. And nothing less. Obviously, Mark Kirk is afraid of my high standards, integrity and independence. Why?

“I hope Kirk runs against me for the senate so we can have a debate on the issues and a debate on the future of the Republican Party. How can we talk one way in public and act another way in private?

“I intend to run a vigorous primary campaign for the U. S. Senate. And I will not let Kirk fool primary voters the same way Jack Ryan fooled Republicans in 2004.

“Open the files, Mark. Stop lying about your ‘unsealed’ records when the court says they are still sealed. Your lies are going to embarrass even your most loyal supporters,” Martin noted.

(CHICAGO)(June 16, 2009) Internet Powerhouse and U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin announced today that Congressman Mark Kirk lied to the People of Illinois and the media when he falsely claimed that his divorce files had been “unsealed.” Martin contacted the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Alexandria, Virginia, where Kirk was divorced, and was advised that the file was “sealed.”

Martin has sent Kirk a letter (see below) threatening to sue Kirk for access to the sealed divorce records. “It looks like we have another ‘Jack Ryan scandal’ on our hands,” Martin stated in releasing the Clerk’s response.

“The mystery over the rumors concerning Kirk’s private life, when now combined with his lies about ‘unsealed’ divorce files that are not in fact ‘unsealed,’ and remain secret, raise grave questions about Kirk’s judgment, integrity and fitness to be a candidate for statewide office. The Illinois Republican Party is already a national laughingstock over the way Jack Ryan imploded. It looks as though Kirk has not learned the lessons of Ryan’s campaign, and is seeking to trigger a new round of litigation about the secrets contained in Kirk’s divorce materials.

[In 2004, Jack Ryan denied there was anything embarrassing in his sealed divorce files. After he won the nomination to oppose Barack Obama, the Chicago Tribune sued to open Ryan’s sealed files. When the California divorce court ordered Ryan’s records made public, Ryan resigned as a candidate and helped power Obama into the U.S. Senate. Carpetbagger Alan Keyes “moved” to Illinois and made a fool out of himself and the Illinois Republicans who invited him to replace Ryan.]

“It is high time Kirk addressed both the rumors about his personal life and why he authorized the release of a lie to the media and public, falsely claiming his divorce case files had been opened to the public when that is in fact not the case.

“Kirk’s belief that the rumors will be contained if he runs for statewide office is delusional. Columnist Carol Marin has already made it clear that Barry Obama is going to trash any Republican who runs for his former senate seat. I call this the “Carol Marin Test.”

Dear Representative Kirk:

Nothing will kill a politician faster than lying to the public.

When your divorce was “finalized,” the divorce files were sealed.

Your office then issued an explicit statement to the media that the divorce file was unsealed and open to public inspection.

As part of my due diligence, I contacted the Clerk of the Alexandria, Virginia Circuit Court and asked for access your divorce file.

This was the Clerk’s response earlier today:

The Associated Press quoted you yesterday as saying you are raising money for a “big campaign.”

Sadly, it appears you are proceeding along Jack Ryan’s path, and beginning your “big campaign” with a big lie.

Before I file suit against you and your former spouse in Virginia to open your divorce case, I would like to afford you until Thursday, June 18th to notify the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Alexandria that your divorce file should be unsealed, and that I am authorized to receive a copy of the complete file.

Failing same, we will be in court exposing your big lie, and seeking to put in the public domain the legal documents that you previously, and falsely, claimed had already been made public.

I would suggest you have your divorce attorneys contact me, and copy me with all of their correspondence with the Clerk.

I will be continuing my investigation to determine who actually made the misrepresentation to the media that the file had been “unsealed” when that was obviously a lie. The Clerk’s e-mail speaks for itself. I am making available to you a copy of the actual e-mail (as opposed to the text version above).

Let me be clear: I have said I would not exploit the facts concerning the rumors about your personal life. But I do believe you must address those rumors before you become a candidate.

Likewise, when you lie to the people, and falsely claim that a “sealed” file is “unsealed” when in fact it is not, then such lies have nothing to do with your “personal life” and everything to do with lying to the public. I will attack you for lying to the public and media.

For shame.

ANDY MARTIN RESPONDS TO MICHAEL GERSON’S COLUMN IN FRIDAY’S WASHINGTON POST

(CHICAGO)(June 13, 2009) Initially I wasn’t going to comment on the anti-Semitic rampage earlier this week at the Holocaust Museum in Washington. My desk is piled high with work that is past due, and I have several columns of my own that I want to get out. The vicious and senseless attack was obviously the work of a madman.

But I was deeply moved by a column Friday in the Washington Post by Michael Gerson:

Mr. Gerson crystallized the evil and insanity of anti-Semitism.

My own upbringing was rather philo-Semitic. When other kids were being taught about baseball, my mother was lecturing me on our family friend Dr. Sigmund Neumann, who had fled the Third Reich. I learned about the Nazis and their murderous regime at an early age. When I was old enough to have a paper route, Dr. Neumann used to invite me in for a chat. He was a scholar at Wesleyan University. The Nazis had burned his books.

As a small boy, I still vividly remember the first time one of my friends made an anti-Semitic statement. I was stunned. I still am. How could anyone have poisoned my friend’s mind at such a young age?

I was also exposed to bigotry against my own family. My mother’s side of the family is Greek-American. When we went to the beach every summer I was occasionally reminded that Greeks still could not buy property on Ocean Boulevard. That was reserved for “Yankees,” as some people are still called in New England. Greeks were relegated to the swamps and side streets.

My mother told me that growing up in Manchester, New Hampshire some kids used to yell ethnic epithets at her on the street. That discrimination left a lasting impression on me.

As a young student in England, I observed the still-raw wounds of World War II. One child in my prep school had been part of the kindertransport, and his adoptive parents had disguised his name to protect him from some future outbreak of anti-Semitism.

My own father was an anti-Nazi warrior who regaled me with stories of “killing Jerries” and training Jews to defend the Middle East. I thank God that dad was there as part of the Greatest Generation. He gave me the greatest gift.
One of my best friends, who died recently, was featured in a movie, The Richie Boys, about Jewish refugees who fled Nazi Germany and returned on D-Day to fight the Third Reich.

My friend was fabulously wealthy, and donated large sums of money to support good works in Israel, primarily reconciliation between Israelis and Arabs.

And here the story gets more complex.

I am obviously identified with criticism of the Israeli government and its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Some Israelis and pro-Israel Americans like to brand anyone who challenges the occupation of Palestine as “anti-Semitic.” Its not anti-Semitism to challenge the Israeli government’s political and military policies.

When false accusations of anti-Semitism are used to silence critics of the Israeli government a potential anti-Semitic backlash can be created. Many Americans, including many Jews, are appalled at the lockstep, not to say goosestep, manner in which the U. S. Government has endorsed Israeli actions over the past decades.

I don’t agree with Barack Obama on many issues. But I do support his apparent efforts to level the playing field in the Middle East, and to return sanity to our government’s policy. And, of course, some Israelis are now accusing Obama of being an anti-Semite. Let me be clear, neither Obama nor I are anti-Semites. Presidents Jimmy Carter, George Bush (I) George Bush (II) were also called anti-Semites by some Israelis. We are all in good company.

Although I disagreed with George W. Bush’s Middle East policies, there has never been a more pro-Israeli administration than Bush-Cheney’s. But pro-Israeli voters still abandoned the Republican Party for Obama. Go figure.

Last year during the heat of the election, Obama sent his rotund rogue Robert Gibbs to the Fox News Channel’s Hannity & Colmes to falsely accuse me of being an anti-Semite. The Obama tactic was a crude distortion of the truth fostered by New York Times reporter James Rutenberg. The smear backfired. My profile rose after the Times and Fox News were used as mouthpieces to spread the anti-Semitic lie.

Transparently I was opposing Obama on political grounds. For Obama to authorize a smear against me, using false claims of anti-Semitism based on a decades-old lawsuit, was despicable conduct on his part. But Obama’s attack was also a compliment, confirming that his campaign staff feared my Internet newspaper’s influence over millions of voters. I am hopeful that some day Obama will apologize to me for his unfortunate behavior. (What the hell; he has apologized to everyone else.)

In the meantime, Mr. Gibbs has had to hire a lawyer and defend his malignant behavior in an Illinois court.

The truth is disarmingly simply. Decades ago, I was politically harassed by corrupt Democratic federal judges in Chicago. (I was rescued by Republican judges.) Thieves moved in to loot my property. Because all of my opponents in court were Jewish, I developed a claim of religious discrimination. But, in a second round of misuse of the law, crooked judges in New York and Connecticut tried to trump up my discrimination claim as “anti-Semitic.”

Their motive: Judge Jose Cabranes was a cocaine-crazed psycho who had been appointed as a federal judge to placate his own ethnic constituency. He had and has lived his entire life with rage at his own sense of inadequacy and unworthiness. When I stood before Cabranes and confronted him with his corruption, he exploded and retaliated by abusing his power as a judge to smear me.

In other words, the false accusations of anti-Semitism against me were nothing more than the efforts of a cocaine-crazed, crooked federal judge to harass me because I exposed him and touched his vulnerability. More amazingly, judicial careers were destroyed by Cabranes’ rage and venom. I attacked him and his fellow traveler Judge John O. Newman, and helped scuttle their nominations to the Supreme Court.

The lawyer who represented me against Cabranes’ depredations has advised me for 26 years and remains a friend.

In retrospect, my lawsuit was an unfortunate legal tactic, and I regret lodging the claim. Ironically, the U. S. Supreme Court soon upheld my legal theory in the federal discrimination case, in the unrelated proceeding of Shaare Tefila, 481 U.S. 615 (1987). Thus, my accusations of religious discrimination against the Connecticut crooks were legally arguable but unfortunately opened the door to false accusations of anti-Semitism against me.

Left-wing media try to portray me as anti-Semitic based on those events a quarter-century ago. They are pretty desperate to find dirt, and there is little of it in my long life.

As an aside, claims made in lawsuits are privileged precisely because people and their attorneys are often forced to make legal and factual claims which they do not personally endorse. That was my situation. I was not anti-Semitic, but was placed in a situation where my arguments could be distorted and falsely portrayed as anti-Semitic merely because I raised a claim of apparent bigotry.

Over the years I have collected money from people who falsely accused me of being anti-Semitic. I don’t sue in all instances, but I keep these lawsuits going to send a message: unfounded accusations of anti-Semitism are as irresponsible as anti-Semitism itself.

Of course, when people such as Obama and the New York Times trump up accusations of anti-Semitism against me, they usually boomerang. I hope to collect from the New York Times before that newspaper goes bankrupt.

The Andy Martin Peace Plan for the Middle East, which I announced in July 2000, called for protecting both Israelis and Palestinians with U. S. troops. Someone who is wiling to risk U. S. lives to defend both Israelis and Palestinians is hardly anti-Semitic. A decade later, the Andy Martin Peace Plan is now finding increased support as a pragmatic solution to the endless conflict between Israelis and Palestinians; I am proud of my ongoing efforts to foster peace in the Middle East.

Those of us who are active in working for genuine peace in the Middle East are still forced to defend against false accusations of anti-Semitism when we challenge Israeli government policies. Israelis who equate criticism of their government with anti-Semitism bear false fitness to anti-Semitism itself. Political criticism and anti-Semitism are not the same.

Sadly, there is very little that can be done to punish the anti-Semitic lunatic who attacked the Holocaust Museum on Wednesday. At his age and in his state of mind, punishment is problematic. We are left with a horrific crime for despicable reasons, in which the law is largely powerless to extract an adequate punishment.

Left-wing Democrats have now suggested that anti-Semitism is a right-wing or “conservative media” virus. Nothing could be further from the truth. But ultimately, for either Democrats or the mainstream media to politicize and propagandize with false accusations of anti-Semitism is disgraceful behavior.

A few closing thoughts.

My first day in high school, a football player was harassing a Jewish kid in our class, Stephen Mayer. He was making fun of Mayer’s religion. I told the football guy to stop, and when he didn’t, I beat the crap out of him. He never made another anti-Semitic remark in my presence.

My entire life has been devoted to fighting bullies and crooks, wherever they are found, but usually in government, the courts and politics. There has never been any room for anti-Semitism in my life. Not when I defended Steve Mayer, not today, not ever.

There was one point Mr. Gerson left out of his very moving and pertinent discussion of anti-Semitism in the Washington Post. Fear. One of the goals of anti-Semitism is to make people fearful, to depersonalize and dehumanize them. That is how the Holocaust in Germany became possible.

We must always be on guard to fight against fear, and those who would make us fearful. One of the greatest gifts America has given all of us is freedom from fear. We are free to live our lives in peace and freedom. On Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn, Muslims and Jews live and trade in peace. Everywhere, we respect each other and support each other’s freedom to live in peace and safety, free from any form of fear. Freedom-from-fear is an American value; it is part of our national character. It is our legacy from the past, and our enduring gift to future generations. We must never let evil gain a toehold in our society.

Today, Barack Obama’s admirer Hugo Chavez is spreading anti-Semitism in Venezuela. Because I once had a Venezuelan Jewish girlfriend, who was a refugee from Egypt, she warned me very early about Chavez’ evil potential. If I could send Obama a message, it would be, “Speak out against Chavez. Don’t let his evil pass. Don’t let Chavez poison the Americas with anti-Semitism.”

When the New York Times lodged its false accusations of anti-Semitism against me last year, my Jewish friend was the first person on the phone offering unlimited financial assistance to mount a media counterattack. I have a deep and abiding loyalty to my departed friend. While I don’t have the resources he did to work for peace, I do have a voice.

That voice will always be raised in chorus with Mr. Gerson. Anti-Semitism is evil, and we should confront and attack anti-Semitism everywhere and wherever we find it.

That’s the American way.

Dear Representative Kirk:

It is my understanding that you are considering running against me for the U.S. Senate nomination in 2010.

Earlier this week, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Carol Marin posited that any Republican senate candidate will come under attack from Barack Obama’s smear-and-slime machine. I know what Obama’s people are like. In 2008 they attacked me in the New York Times, as well as with bogus Internet activity. But, after digging, all they could come up with was old lawsuits having no connection to the present. Nevertheless, my experience was instructive.

You probably remember what the media did to Jack Ryan in 2004. It was not a coincidence that Obama’s smear artists trumped up the disclosures about Jack. They also smeared Blair Hull with marital problems in the 2004 primary. And in 2008 they slimed Senator John McCain in the pages of the same New York Times that was used to smear me. Once again, McCain’s marital issues were front page news.

You are aware, of course, about the rumors concerning your personal life. Tom Roeser, a blogger, alluded to these rumors earlier this week:

I want you to know if the rumors are true, I will not use them against you or exploit them in the primary. But Obama will use them against you if you win the primary. He has a history of using sex scandals to discredit both Democrats and Republicans. Carol Marin’s Sun-Times story suggested Obama will use his own personal praetorian guard to smear any Republican candidate. “Any Republican seriously thinking of running for Senate will have to run against Obama.”

I can deal with Obama’s smears. Can you?

Illinois is a pretty tolerant and forgiving place. But when candidates try to keep secrets from the public, those tactics inevitably backfire.

I would urge you to look within yourself to decide (i) if the rumors are indeed true and (ii) whether the Illinois Republican Party would be better served by full disclosure sooner rather than later.

Dear Andy:

As you know, since we first encountered each other in 2003 we have been adversaries. You hired a Democratic lawyer, Andy Raucci, to undermine my candidacy, and that set us off.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with adversarial relationships in politics. People see others as rivals, etc. and act accordingly.

However, today America is imperiled by the Obama juggernaut.

If there is any basis for us to try to work together for the good of the Republican Party and American people, I am open to exploring that possibility.

We don’t have to like each other to work together.

During the 2008 presidential election, I came under investigation and attack by the Barack Obama slime-and-smear machine. They dug as deeply as they could, and all they could unearth about me were lawsuits more than a quarter of a century old. In a very practical sense, I have been battled tested and combat hardened by my experience with Obama. There are no secrets in my past.

I am concerned by the drumbeat of rumors concerning Mark Kirk and his “Jack Ryan” problem. Mark’s situation is not one that I will use against him in the primary if he decides to run against me in the U. S. Senate race. But voters deserve to be told openly and candidly if there is a problem before the primary, not afterwards, so the Party is not embarrassed again as it was during the Jack Ryan imbroglio.

In some sense, the Ryan fiasco elected Barack Obama, and the IRP has not recovered from that episode. We don’t want a repeat of the Ryan revelations.

If you would like to sit down and discuss matters, I am open to meeting at our mutual convenience. We may decide we can’t work together, or we may decide we can; there is no harm in reviewing the possibilities.

Democrats to Rep. Mark: Now Who's Un-American?

During the Bush era, it was Republicans who often hurled charges of un-American sentiments at their Democratic rivals. Now the tables have turned, and Democrats are hammering Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) for a comment he made on a recent trip to China.

In a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, Kirk said he told Chinese officials "the budget numbers that the U.S. Government has put forward should not be believed." He went on to say that Congress will wind up spending even more. (Here's a link to a video of the speech put on YouTube by Talking Points Memo.)

Democratic operatives aren't letting this one go. They're fixated on Kirk's declaration that the U.S. budget numbers "should not be believed." In other words, Democrats charge, Kirk is calling his own country a liar.

"After helping get us into this current economic crisis by supporting President Bush's failed economic policies, Congressman Mark Kirk went to China and told Chinese officials that the American government was not to be trusted," says Ryan Rudominer, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Congressman Kirk's questioning of America while representing our government in China is incredibly irresponsible and endangers the American economy."

We asked Congressman Kirk if he really meant that America cannot be trusted, as Democrats are charging. Without directly answering the question, here is how Kirk's spokesman, Eric Elk, replied:

"Congressman Kirk said what American and Chinese readers see daily in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. As China lent more and more to the U.S., its leaders are getting used to watching Congress spend much more than expected. What is changing is China's willingness to keep lending. The Congressman is very concerned about the government's spending and growing deficit.

We know that Standard & Poors and Fitch rating agencies have informed the British government that their spending and debt have jeopardized their AAA rating. Loss of a. AAA rating would push mortgage interest rates up. The congressman is working to ensure the United States does not suffer this fate family savings are founded on the soundness of the U.S. dollar. Since World War I, the dollar served as the world's reserve currency, insulating Americans against inflation and the volatility of foreign currency markets."

Kirk, who announced earlier this month that he and his wife of eight years, Kimberly Ann Vertolli, are divorcing, is a prime target of Democrats in the next election cycle. The congressman has hinted he may run for either governor of Illinois in 2010 or for the Senate seat currently held by Roland Burris.

Illinois state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, a potential future rival of Kirk who has already declared his candidacy for the Senate seat Burris now holds, is also attacking Kirk as un-American.

"In the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, Mark Kirk is essentially telling China, which holds more U.S. debt than any nation on earth, not to trust the American government, and by extension, the American people," Giannoulias said in a statement. "This puts the full faith and credit of the United States at risk and threatens to permanently wreak havoc on the credit markets that are essential to our recovery and our economic future."

“Today I am delivering letters of inquiry to potential 2010 U. S. Senate candidate Mark Kirk, and Illinois Republican Chairman Andy McKenna,” Martin will state.

“Based on information circulating on blogs and elsewhere, my letter to Kirk concerns matters that Representative Kirk needs to consider and address openly and honestly.

“Likewise, my letter to McKenna asks where we go from here, in light of the challenges faced by the Republican Party.

“In sum and substance, Marin makes clear that Barack Obama is personally going to unleash his attack dogs on any Republican who wants to take the ‘Obama seat’ in the U. S. Senate. Obama’s obsession means that any Republican candidate is going to come under Obama’s usual form of character assassination and personal smears. Obama and Axelrod did this to Blair Hull, to Jack Ryan, and to Senator John McCain. In the cases of Hull and Ryan, Obama’s personal smears inflicted lethal blows.

Chicago Daily Observor confidently declares that Mark Kirk will not run for Burris's Senate seat, but will seek re-election to his IL-10 House seat.

Mark Kirk. U. S. Rep. Mark Kirk, preferred by GOP ticket-planners to run for either governor or senator, will decline both jobs in order to seek reelection to his House seat, I have been told on what I believe is excellent authority. The reason is not political but personal. His decision will likely be spun as acknowledgment that no Republican can win either race... a conclusion the liberal media will quickly buy and propagate: but the true reason lies not in politics but with other concerns. This decision leaves the list wide open for the two top spots, governor and senator. Kirk was the odds-on favorite of liberal media and prominent GOP fund-raisers who have sought to raise double-digit millions for him and the ticket, if he were to have run for governor. At the same time, it was noted that Kirk's strong pro-abort positions and other liberal stances... i.e. his support of the so-called "hate crimes" legislation... would deprive him of social conservative support in the primary-but the ticket-builders argued that this could be offset by other candidates on the ticket: a conclusion that has been widely disputed. My own feeling is that Kirk would be a better choice for U.S. Senator than governor-although I wouldn't have voted for him for either job. ** Tom Roeser is the Chairman of the Chicago Daily Observer Editorial Board.
Well, at least one announcement actually did came out -- Kirk is finally finishing up his divorce (see Politico column, "Shenanigans":
"Rep. Mark Kirk is almost officially divorced. 'Congressman Kirk is separated from his wife, and they are working out the final divorce details,' his spokesman confirmed to Shenan."
However, even though he promised an announcement at the end of April after months of mulling about it, this is not the announcement Republicans were waiting for. Kirk has not yet announced what he is going to do about statewide office.
Although Chicago Daily Observer and his excellent authority have it wrong (at this point), it leaves some interesting questions.
Why the delay? Why the Hamlet act? What's behind the indecision? The Republicans are dying for Kirk to step up and go after the seat. They're ready to throw big money at Kirk to claim Obama's former seat, even though he is a moderate Republican, voted for SCHIP and the first bailout. But what is Kirk afraid will be revealed? Getting a divorce is not a scarlet letter anymore, even among Republicans. Sure, they might squawk a little about divorce...a worse attack on marriage than same sex marriage.
So, what is the problem? Inquiring minds want to know!

“Senator John Cornyn has been promoting Kirk’s candidacy. Is Cornyn aware of the blog postings and rumors? Or is Cornyn trying to sell Illinois voters a ‘pig in a poke?’”

“Obama has already taken his best shot at me. He tried to smear me on the front page of the New York Times last year, and it boomeranged. They had to go back 35 years to find lies. We have had the New York Times in court since then; they are spending a fortune defending their distortions and misrepresentations.

“No one doubts if anyone throws mud at me, I will throw it right back, and I know how. So in my case as a nominee, maybe the Democrats will avoid smears and try addressing the issues, for a change.

“As a 2010 primary candidate I know we are going to see the usual Chicago Tribune’s Rick Pearson column the week before the primary detailing the same stale accusations that my opponents always make and which usually create a backlash in my favor.

“But what about Kirk? Does he have a ‘Jack Ryan problem?’ I think Kirk owes us an open and honest answer now, not later. Jack Ryan’s inability to confront his own life created chaos in 2004 and inflicted damage on the Illinois Republican Party that is still having an impact.

“My letters pose difficult questions for both men. But Republicans are entitled to answers. We will release the texts this afternoon at 4:00 P.M.,” Martin says.
