Wow, I'm even amazed sometimes at the guests we get here. Summertime is one of the most trying times in sportstalk radio, when everyone wants you to talk about your team and the U of A just does not have anything to offer, you have to stir the pot. So, we stuck the ol' broomstick in the hornets nest and out pops Dan Beebe(no relation to Mike, our governor), Commissioner of the Big 12. He, like most commissioners, occasionally comes up with a doozie of a plan...to make players eligible for 5 years with no red-shirting. The classiest coach in the SEC.

When you talk about football coaches, classy is not a word that generally comes to mind. When you talk about Mark Richt though, classy is the first word that comes to mind. Mark to me is a coach who knows the game, knows his players and knows how to show poise and class on a field known for it's grit and determination. Mark stands out as a gentleman among NCAA coaches. Shawn got a chance to sit down and talk with Richt and this is that interview.

Sometimes things seem funny at first and then when you step back and think about it, it can be dangerous. Then sometimes you dive into that wading pool headfirst from 50 feet up. Well, someone will benefit for sure from this one. I have to admit, I darn near had a heart attack when I thought the delay/dump did not work. Let me 'splain somethin' to you...as we were calling Ole Miss, I was to dump numbers off the credit card from the broadcast. After the segment, I called Wayne1958 and he said that the entire card number went over the air. It wasn't until after I had written an email to engineering and pulled the segment to edit out some of the pertinent information that I was able to breathe a HUGE sigh of relief. OK, it's summertime and the topics are limited. When you get someone who wants to talk to you it can turn out to be an eyeopener for some. With the advent of Joaquim Noah getting popped with some tree in his pocket, it was only fitting that we get a former NBA player turned drug counselor on to talk about that issue. Zaid Abdul-Aziz (formerly Don Smith) came on board to talk about substance abuse in sports and what brought him to this endeavour in his life. His book 'Darkness to Sunlight' (click on the link to check out his website) chronicles his journey through life from Brooklyn through the NBA. Real Deal Update

Bill Ingram did a heck of a job...again. The coaches were pleased and the fans were treated to some big time prospects.

Side notes: John White was at Bud Walton....so nice not calling him chancellor.
Coach K big timed me. I asked him for a one minute interview and
he told me he'd rather not.......note to self, continue to boo Duke.
Bill Self was super nice and very humble, very refreshing. He will be on the show(thanks to Wally) tonight.

We sat down with coach Petrino on Saturday and he is really sharp. We were told we would only have five minutes and as we sat down, I told coach we would have him out in thirty five minutes. His response....."Good luck"...classic!

This week will be a lot of fun on the show, Sam Perkins is coming on, also scheduled to appear is; Jay Barker, Bill Self, Bobby Petrino, John Pelphrey, Doc Sadler, and a big one on either Thursday or Friday.
