type='text'>Leaders who bully

What is it that leads leaders of businesses and organisation to use strong arm bully tactics to lead and manage their businesses… does it work? of course it does, is it effect? to a point, do organisations like this survive? of course they do, so is that the reason bossy bosses continue to be like they are… probably.

Are the business the best they can be? sometimes but not usually, do they have a high staff retention? not normally, do their customers like dealing with them? not necessarily, however, if you are making good money and life from the bosses point of view is OK then that’s when it does work.

There is a view that you have to be very tuff to make it big in business, however, that is not necessarily true, it can also be the reason business don’t make it really big… look at the businesses that make a lot of money, Microsoft, Google, Virgin, Starbucks and many more… do they treat their people well, for the most part, you can never really tell until you have worked for one of them.

So what is it that needs to change, so that the people benefit and the culture works for everyone… in my humble opinion you need to remove the fear from the owner/leader because they have in their mind and for the most part have put everything on the line and have everything to loose.

Develop the business as if it were an interest, enjoy the good times and praise at every opportunity, reward your people, accommodate their views, visions and ideas… allow them to feel wanted and valued… what will this do, improve their performance and that of the company, which in turn will remove the fear element.

Good recruitment and a happy crew will make you business thrive and survive longer than your competition who still beat up on their employees.

My Communication... the key to success or failure for every leader

No news/comment can be as destructive as telling the truth, and worst of all is, making a comment that leaves everyone wondering what is going on...

So what is the right thing to do, I am not an expert in this, however, I have experience some pretty bad communication and communicators and for me the truth or at least a comment that lets you know to wait for some more details later does work best, the only problem with saying more details will follow, to make it work and to keep everything positive with this option is if you give a deadline for more details you have to deliver on time, otherwise every good thing you have done to keep the positive mood will be undone...

Also remember what is communicated may not always be received in the positive way in which it is communicated, everyone hears and reads things differently so check with others on big announcements, share your communication with someone not involved as they are likely to be more neutral and give a more balanced view of what will be received by the those listening or reading.

Remember Gerald Ratner, he told a peer group of directors his stores sold crap the media got hold of it and his multi million pound empire was destroyed over night...

Keep it real and keep it true, but not like Gerald, who mocked what he did, the words could have been different and he could have said the same thing and not lost his empire, the good thing about this is he, like a Phoenix he learnt and is now back making money again in the same business he was in before, this time on-line.

My The American Indians…

Why are they called the American Indians? Given they were there before the place was called America, they were already settled and had there own nations, so they should be described as Sioux or Cheyenne not just Indians or Natives.

Does this mean in two hundred years we will no longer be known as English or French perhaps we will all be European’s and for those who do not conform will we become native European’s.

Not something I will live to see, but it would be good to see a change for the nations that lived in that continent that us European’s invaded and took over with force and greed.

My Ecademy Profile
My <a
